- Star Wars spinoffs are abundant in the 21st century. But back in the 1980s, George Lucas had a new duology in mind that few have actually seen. I present: The Ewok Movies!

Happy May the 4th! In this video, I take a look at the ewok films from 1984 and 1985. Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor. According to a poll I conducted, only 13% of fans have seen them. Why? Are they that bad? Well, no! While Caravan of Courage is honestly just OK... Battle for Endor does something very daring and the inclusion of Wilford Brimley only helps matters.

Happy May the 4th! Hope you like the video (new QnA video has been filmed and will be uploaded soon). Also, what do you guys wanna see next? Don't have a plan for the next video and I need ideas!
Happy May 4th!
Love your content
Loving the new format!
As for future ideas, you could do a video on Alien knockoffs or ripoffs.
Either a video on Indie Animation or Star Wars knockoffs
Happy May the 4th Ross, if I might make a possible suggestion for the next video after the QnA, either Jaws Ripoff Movies or with the upcoming Alien Romulus, possibly take a look at the Alien Franchise especially since the first film also had its 45th Anniversary.
Pretty fascinating that, In the Legends continuity, Cindel would become a very popular reporter in Coruscant. She's in fact mentioned in the Black Fleet Crisis book Trilogy
That’s awesome
Holy Hell really?
Thats my favorite EU book series and I never thought about.
Idk why Disney didn't just take stories from the already beloved established and accepted canon and make movies.
Though chances are, it would have been disapointing anyways.
At least people would understand why some droids are practically people.
Mandalorian kinda stretched that to absurd level 😂.
But the Han Solo origin trilogy of books would have made such good movies. You can tell disney was aware of it, stole parts of it and then missed the point. 😂
There's a book that was just about to be published, then Disney took over and the deal went under so it was just posted free to view online. Forget what the book is called, but I did read Cindel's chapter.
Exactly and he also interviewed the "lost prophet" who in reality was a clone trooper pilot of an arc 170 that was abandoned
"Somehow Palpatine returned" is the worst line in Star Wars
From the worst movie in Star Wars, fittingly
There are all kinds of Earth animals in Star Wars. There are Komodo Dragons on Dagobah in The Empire Strikes Back, there are ducks on Naboo, and there are chickens on Yavin IV.
To be fair, I think reptiles would be a pretty common creature type in the universe, being the simplest form of complex life, evolution everywhere but maybe extreme gravity and extreme cold environments. Its one up from fish. 😂
I stand corrected! I completely forgot about those.
@@Suspect_Green We all make mistakes!! I just happen to be a massive Star Wars nerd so this info is like a quarter of my brain's capacity 🤣🤣
Yeah, being surprised to see earth animals in Star Wars but not being surprised to see humans?
Not to mention humans everywhere lol
I remember watching the second movie as a child. I kept on telling my highschool friends there was a Ewok movie where the main hero was this old hillbilly guy that wore glasses, but my highschool friends didn't believe me.
As a Battlefront 2 Ewok Hunt player, the tinkerbell scene sent me into hyperventilations
Same I was like “that’s where it comes from!?” I was having Vietnam flashbacks.
Here's a great idea for a future video:
*"The Best Movies That Sadly Never Were!"*
Examples:
• William Gibson's *"ALIEN 3"*
(Hicks & Bishop were the main leads, Newt is sent to Earth to be with
her grandparents, Ripley is in a coma, and the Xenomorphs invade a space station/shopping mall hybrid and have
a new method of multiplying: A spore virus that makes a human go through a Cronenberg-style morph into an Alien.)
• Paul Verhoeven & Phil Tippett's
*"DINOSAURS"*
(A dark, dialogue-free film -
written by Walon Green, who co-wrote
the script for *"RoboCop 2"* - with
the protagonist Styracosaurus named
Woot and the antagonist T. rex named
Grozni. In the story's end, they'd have
a epic fight to the death where Woot
wins . . . only for all of the Dinosaurs to
become extinct when the K-T asteroid crashed into Earth.)
• Phillip Noyce's
*"RETURN OF THE APES"*
(with Oliver Stone as co-writer & the executive producer, Terry Hayes as
the writer, Stan Winston as the Ape FX designer and Arnold Schwarzenegger set to play as a modern scientist who
go through time to prehistoric Africa
in order to prevent the highly-evolved, but cruel Gorillas from making a DNA-
virus time bomb that could cause an extinction to modern Man. Also, there are many references to *"Lord of The Rings"* in the story.)
• Richard Matheson's *"JAWS III"*
(which centers on a pair of Great White Sharks that got trapped in a lake and wreak havoc on a fishing community.
In this version, it doesn't take place at SeaWorld Florida, the Brody kids were "Sir-Not-Appearing-In-This-Film", and there's no 3-D.)
• John Carpenter & Clive Barker's *"HELLOWEEN"*
(a crossover film with Michael Myers facing off against Pinhead and it was to be written by Clive Barker & directed by John Carpenter.)
• Ridley Scott's *"I AM LEGEND"*
(with a screenplay by John Logan, and Arnold Schwarzenegger set to play Robert Neville. The film was to be a sci-fi/psychological thriller with NO dialogue for a hour and a somber ending.)
I second that, and throw in Jan de Bont's Godzilla as well
Intriguing! Thanks for sharing! My first thought was maybe to use AI to help visualize these projects. Though a lot of people are against its use. Still, sounds like a fun video to research.
With good reason.@@Suspect_Green
Don't forget the 1937 adaptation of "I, Claudius". Only a few scenes were filmed before the production was csncelled because the main actress suffered a fatal car accident. Shame, because its potential was IMMENSE
Could Include Unmade 3rd Timothy Dalton bond movie 1991 or 1993 Spider man movie directed by James Cameron
I had an even darker idea for the ending of Battle for Endor.
Imagine the Empire shows up at the very end as Cindel gets ready to leave. She has to lie to the Ewoks and tell them that they've come to help, setting up Return of the Jedi.
Cool but Tbh, I prefer to think Battle For Endor happened AFTER ROTJ, not before.
Fellowship of The Ewoks Forever 🤣 Dude u killed me at this Moment✌️
I was born in 95 but i grew up with alot of 80's movies, despite me never seeing the ewoks movie before this video, i feel a huge way of nostalgia washing over me
Funny. I was also born in 1995. But I actually did grow up with these movies. I got the double feature DVD when I was in middle school and rewatched it a ton. So I got a real ton of nostalgia!
To be honest I always thought the Christmas specials were the only 80's Star Wars spinoffs, this was surprising to see. Also I crack up everytime high Suspect shows up so 12:10 didn't disappoint 😂
The Star Wars Holiday Special originally aired 1978. The original SW movie came out in 1977.
The first SW spinoff was the late 70’s not the 80’s.
I saw Caravan of Courage when I was VERY young and I can't lie I never knew it was really a Star Wars project. My younger self always assumed it was a ripoff! lol
oh man that's bad when even kids see it and go "this can't be official, gotta be a knock off movie"
So fun fact, as a kid I had the Battle for Endor and had no idea about the original movie... I wont lie; knowing it's a sequel and they were established characters.... makes it so damn funny to me.
Battle For Endor is a classic
Aubree Miller as Cindel is adorable
12:10. Yesssss the man the myth the legend has returned. I haven’t applauded and cheered so much since I saw tobey and Andrew appear in spider man no way home
These bits somehow end up being the highlights of every review for me 😂
@@siddharthvasu3511 facts. I’m so glad he kept him as a character. So iconic
As much as I like the idea of Cindel showing up in a future project, given your track record with spin off suggestions, maybe they shouldn’t.
Plus, Aubree Miller might not want to come back to the the role and given the state of Star Wars….. I can hardly blame her.
@@chasehedges6775 "given the state of Star Wars"? It's no worse off now than after the prequels. It's more more alive and kicking too which means more possibilities
Thank you for mentioning the OG Clone Wars Cartoon.
About that intro:
1. I think with Obi-Wan and Boba Fett they could both have worked better as actual movies.
2. Theres a clip where someone talks about Secret Invasion and they say something like ”we wanted a grounded spy show, but we Also wanted it to be good”.
3. For all that Andor turned out to be good I still dont understand why it was an Andor spin-off when it could just be called Rebellion or something and been about a random rebel?
Tbf there’s already a Star Wars series that’s called rebels. They wouldn’t want similar titles like that
They would work better with actual writers.
Those tinkerbells kill you in Battlefront 2.
Don't feel to bad about your inital thoughts on Andor. I don't think anyone was expecting it to be as good as it ended up being.
Andor is GOLD and Top Tier
I assume Lucasfilm also didn't care what the team did for a show about a character nobody cares about and therefore without executive oversight it ended up being good. Tale as old as time really lol
@@ToddTheTolerableDude... What do you think Andor's budget was? All the "practical" aspects, the sets, props, costumes and then ALSO top tier CGI? AIN'T NONE OF THAT CHEAP. And Disney and Lucas Bean counters were involved all the way through production I guarantee it. Then there's the "push" sometimes via promotion, not least of which is getting showcased in things like conventions and events like Celebration or D24.
The higher ups absolutely knew what it was and what it was doing based just on how much money Gilroy and crew were asking for.
Facts are the regime that folks hate at Disney and Lucas film for making the products they don't like post the sale by Lucas are primarily also the same regime that has made the SW content they DO like.
@chasehedges6775 a lot people would unfortunately disagree with us
There's more spin-offs in the Star wars universe then there are people in the average spin class.
Not that I actually know that just trying to make a terrible pun
I straight-up lost it at that “Spyro 2” reference!
May the 4th be with you, Suspect! Great job as always. And while we're on the subject of Lucasfilm productions, for a future project, would you consider doing a retrospective of Young Indiana Jones?
That's a series that's intrigued me, I've never seen it. Reviewing stuff is always a good excuse to check it out. I'll keep that one in mind.
"You're yelling at care bears"
No. He's yelling at an alien species that has been documented eating his species
They only became care bears when they made the animated series
My heart goes out to Warwick Davis his wife recently died. I feel sorry for him and the rest of his family.
Empire and Return of the Jedi had a tonal swing from dark to light, so it only fits that these two movies swing from light to dark. Maybe we can call that an "artistic style" for George Lucas.
Exactly
Imagine if Kenobi had the level of writing and production quality of Andor
I can definitely imagine
Yeah, that would be awesome how are you? If it didn’t turn out the way we wanted it to I’m just glad to see Hayden Christensen finally getting the respect he deserves because of Obi-Wan and ahoska
Hayden is fantastic as Anakin
speaking of pushy fans, I'll proclaim here that I don't like the ethereal green background. I think a better idea would be making your greenscreen background related to the setting of the thing you're talking about (ex. The Shire in a LOTR video, or Endor for this video)
ps. I'm liking the new content, keep it up
Yeah, that's a decent idea. I did that with my video I did on Pokemon Scarlet. Changing up the background dependent on what I'm reviewing.
Great video as always. Since you brought up your previous videos on Star Wars spin-offs you wanted to see and it coming true, I really want to see you do a video on modern videogame movies and address what you said in your older video.
I gotta say, this is probably your best video in recent years. Your comedic chops and editing are top notch. Keep it up mate! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I JUST SAW THIS IN MY RECOMMENDATIONS AND I HAD TO CLICK IT! I LOVE YOUR CONTENT SO MUCH MAN I FOLLOWED YOU FOR YEARS! HUGE STAR WARS FAN LIKE YOU!
I remember watching both the made for TV Ewoks adventure movies back in ‘84 and ‘85. I was 9 and 10 respectively on those years, and I vividly remember the advertisement of the first movie being shown a couple of times on TV. I seem to remember enjoying the movie. The second one was okay, though it sucked that the character of Mace was killed because he was a favorite of mine. It’s been quite a while since I’ve seen both movies. I think I have them on VHS. I may have to dust off the old VCR and the VHS tapes and revisit them again.
I laugh every time Ross says “Wilford Brimley”.
Love this! Need more Star Wars content!!!
The editing in this video is spot on. Incredible. How have I not seen your stuff before?
23:07 The poor actor was the guy who played Lurch in the Raul Julia's Addams Family and was Troi's mother's dogsbody in ST:TNG...
Amazing video as always!!! Can’t wait for the next!
Thanks so much!!
Really hope 1 day we're going to get the holiday special review
lets gooo a may the 4th post!!
If I told my younger self I would live in times with so much Star Wars I don't care anymore... My younger self would think I was sent by Skynet.
💯
The reflection in de water is imo intentional visually to show hes stuck in the water and i don't mind it!
Just remember, part of Lucas's plan was action figure right, hooking the kids
This was great! Really cool to look at Star Wars before things were so set in stone. It's why I appreciate the classic Thrawn Trilogy of novels so much. You see those bits of ingenuity and creativity from the author and how he imagined the universe and history of Star Wars to be.
Missed you, Suspect!!!
I was a child in 1984 & 85 and I saw both Ewok movies. These movies weren’t made for adults.
These were tv movies made for children. As a child I did enjoy it.
Having said that, as a child I did enjoy the second Ewok the most.
Yay! New video!
My next video idea, Don't know if you're a book reader but l like to see you take on Fantasys Books that need be the next Harry Potter or Game Of Thrones adaptions.
"If you removed the Ewoks you wouldn't know it was Star Wars. And aside from the spaceship and blaster you wouldnt even know it's sci-fi"
That's the value of the monomyth. It's interchangable since genre is just a paint job.
Also the genre of Space Opera has always had a portion that is "science fiction + fantasy"
Just a few examples:
Princess of Mars (John Carter)
Flash Gordon
Buck Rogers
Krull
ur starwars bounty hunter video was lit
Happy May the 4th, The Unusual Suspect
So the second movie is "$H!7 JUST WENT FROM 0 TO 100 REAL F#$%ING FAST!" can't say I was expecting that.
As for any review ideas, not really sure tbh, I do like the Young Indiana Jones idea someone brought up, but not much else, I do have two though, a look back at the Narnia movies, (And possibly any other adaptations like with the LotR vid) and the older Series of Unfortunate Events movie, heck maybe you could even take a look at the Netflix show if you feel like it.
Great video!! Your comedic editing in your videos is pure gold. I'm still laughing at the fast-forwarding scene.
I watched the second movie as a kid and have never seen the first one (kind of glad that I didn't). I remember liking Battle for Endor. I thought the Ewoks were cool in this film, I liked Wilford Brimley's character, and the fight scenes were entertaining. Thank you for talking about this underrated Star Wars film.
Battle For Endor is GOLD
damn good timing
15:10 Missed out on the sand one...
Oh... or the one where Darth Vader chases down Obi Wan and asks Obi Wan: "Have you come here to kill me?"
May the 4th be with you, always.
Happy may fourth!
May the Forth be with you. Happy Star Wars Day! 😎👍
My family had these movies on VHS back in the day.
Years later, I learned there are a few differences between the original tv airing of Battle for Endor and its home media releases.
1) the biggest one, a scene where the heroes are passing Noah's house, Wicket starts to head for it, only for Noah to call him back, saying the star cruiser is safer. What follows, the Mauraders stop to search the house, and then burn it down, buying the heroes some time.
2) when Noah is about to be killed, a pair of Cindel's lines, "Use your sling!" and "You hit the ring!" are in the VHS release, but not the DVD release.
For a moment, I wondered if you were going to mention that Charal was a Nightsister, so thank you for doing so.
Lastly, one moment that stuck out, when Noah finds his friend's remain in the dungeon.
12:02 as a battlefront 2 player, it’s actually really cool to see that this is where the wisties came from.
These were my sh*t as a kid! Loved them and still have them on DVD.
Did anyone else just rediscover this man? Suspect, it's great to have you back!
There are in fact Earth animals in Star Wars (snakes and reptiles), just exclusively on Degoba. That lends itself to my stupid fan theory that Degoba is in fact Earth (a long time ago, as they say)
Ooh! That's a juicy theory! Haha. Except we are talking about 'a galaxy far far away' here.
There's also apparently ducks somewhere in Star Wars since in The Phantom Menace, Captain Panaka says "without the shield generator we'll be sitting ducks!"
Ok, usually I’m not the biggest fan of those reference cut scenes a lot of channels do, I mean, they’re meh, I don’t hate them, but I don’t love them either, but that Alphonse Elric/Die Hard “fuck yeah!” Was by far the best one I’ve ever seen and it made me laugh a lot.
The force is strong with this video and its host.
True.
Concerning your question about the youngest lead in a film, there is the case of Baby LeRoy, whose entire movie career lasted from 1933 to 1935, bwteen the ages of 1 & 3. Put under a studio contract at the age of 16 months he was taking second billing to WC Fields by the age of 2. So not exactly the lead if you only count top-billing, but the closest i can think of. He died in 2001 having spent the rest of his life in the merchant navy.
Nice dig at Terminator Dark Fate.
11:35 Did you forget about Dagobah? There's a few scenes in Empire Strikes Back where we see earthly reptiles on that swampy planet. Snakes, lizards, and I wouldn't be surprised thar the creature that tried to eat R2 was an actual alligator or crocodile, were all on Dagobah.
14:56-15:08 Oh please, that line doesn't even come close to "I truly, deeply love you" from Attack of the Clones.
Really? Really really? Because whilst it’s still hella awful, to me it’s justifiable. They messed about with mixed signals and emotions all the way through the movie with even worse dialogue and then when Padme is hit with “good god I’m about to die” she realises she actually loves Anakin, and she really wants him to know it isn’t confused this time. Yeah there’s about a thousand different ways she could have said it but “I think she eats giggles” actually sounds like the sort of thing only said on… well imagine chewy and Han on the falcon, shipping in so many death sticks there’s literally nowhere left in the cabin besides the two pilots chairs, then double it and give the lot to jar Jar Binks.
Just my opinion
@@citywitt3202 I'm more so talking about in comparison to that line that Rose said, but anyway. Especially when the line I mentioned kind of makes me feel nauseous to say.
Regardless, yeah, that eating giggles line sounds like something somebody says when they're high.
I subjected my 11 year old to the Holiday Special yesterday. I might leave it a while before we tackle the Ewok films but good to know that they are:
a) not totally awful, and
b) shorter than the holiday special!
Back in the day, in the late 80's, these films would play routinely on The Disney Channel and I would love them. I think it was actually the Ewok films that got me into Star Wars as a toddler. Back when Star Wars and Disney worked well together. Back when Star Wars was an exciting galaxy of wonder.
Ah, the quaint days when the fandom's punching bag was the Ewoks.
😂😂😂😂😂
Seriously tho, the second Ewoks movie is awesome
Well, Spanky from the little rascals aka our gang was 3 years old when he started acting so you missed that
Interesting
@@chasehedges6775 u what 2 know what else interesting Spanky join when he was only 3 years old when join those little rascals aka our gang shorts in 1932
12:00 This just triggered some Battlefront II PTSD from Ewok Hunt
18:01
So Ross, in Terminator: Dark Fate--
My uncle, who is a huge Star Wars fan and actually got me into it, had an book from the 80's about ILM and the movies they had worked on until then, and these Ewok movies were actually mentioned there, first time I ever heard about them.
That’s fantastic
I remember watching this on disney channel as well.
I actually own the Ewok Adventures movies. They were some of the weirdest and cheesiest movies I've seen in all of Star Wars. If I had to choose which one I overall prefer, I would say the second one is the best. I think the villain was more interesting than that giant, as he did have an overall goal; find a source of power to become unstoppable. What that source of power he's seeking in unknown, but the way he destroyed the Ewok village and killed Cindel's entire family at the beginning of the film made him a dark villain. Plus, it this movie was, unofficially, the introduction of the Night Sisters, as it was implied that this witch who served the main antagonist was a former member of the Night Sisters.
Ewoks The Battle For Endor is fantastic and a childhood classic
Also, if we're just going to explain the Ewoks' magic as the force being the force, it doesn't make much sense, because the Ewoks weren't established in Return of the Jedi to be force sensitive.
Oh no. I remember these...
Same. I watched Battle For Endor a lot as a kid
Me too
18:05 so… who’s gonna tell him?
Happy Lightsaber Day! :D
I'm pretty sure I saw both of these when I was very little, but MAN I do not remember the second movies dark as hell opening. Holy shit, my parents must've skipped it somehow
The second one is 🔥
11:37 Well, Dagobah has earth snakes and lizards in Empire Strikes Back.
Who thinks Ross should review the Holiday Special?
Doug Walker did a good job reviewing it
Haha, sorry; no plans on that. NC and JonTron covered everything. Also, if i reviewed it, it would mean.... I'd have to watch it again! AHHH!!!!
@@Suspect_Green Exactly 😈
Don't know if he mentions it, but the "Caravan of courage"poster in thumbnail got me suspicious about Lucas long before Prequels. How can you look at it and not assume the boy is either child Luke... or Luke's child?😅😮😮
So basically Suspect Green finds the same level of storytelling as Alien 3 to be superior to Disney's Star Wars.
SLAM DUNK!!
Will you cover the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles?
Maybe! I've never seen it but I'm curious about it.
@@Suspect_Green Harrison Ford actually appears in one episode
It’d be interesting to see an Ewok horror movie, from the point of view of Stromtroopers abandoned on the planet. Basically, a movie version of Ewok Hunt, but scarier!
I’m honestly surprised that I actually want to watch Battle of Endor now. I went into this video expecting these movies to be god awful but they actually look alright
Battle For Endor is amazing and a masterpiece
Aubree Miller as Cindel is adorable in the film
I Like at 6:41 you think that's how Midway got the name for their Mortal Kombat character?
12:11 Bob Returns!
The kid who plays mace looks like one of the bullies from the karate kid
Bro fr pulled a Simpson prediction with book of boba fett. Other than the very first episode he’s right it was 2022 but dec 29. Basically 2022
I'm a child of the 80s so these Ewok films are burnt into my memory thanks to limited TV shows. Plus I got them as a present once the prequel trilogy was underway 😢😂😅
I'd like to see Jar Jar's Kitchen Nightmares. Used to watch those Ewok movies all the time on cable when I was a kid.
The Ewok movie got a sequel? Also if Jar Jar's kitchen nightmares was real I would actually watch that it would be funny as hell
I see you’re a Robin Hood: Men In Tights fan!
The problem with Star Wars now is the same problem with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, quantity over quality. Both Kathleen Kennedy and Disney are too blamed for their downfalls.
💯
Both Ewok movies > Solo: A Star Wars Story
💯
6:39 That was too funny
Obviously mice evolved from lizards, which evolved from magic rocks.
Also what’s up with the Ewok village just being huts in the ground? Is this a prequel to Return of the Jedi and the reason the Ewoks live in the tree village is because their ground huts were raided?
