  • Tuesday 23 October 2012. I took a trip south of Crewe to capture the 70099 move to Brush Traction, Loughborough. A cloudy day, but my day was brightened up nicely with the great variety that passed through. Highlights for me apart from the late running 70099 were GBRF locos 66705 & 66736, and my first opportunity to film Arriva's DVT 82308 in that smart livery.

    thanks for the film... My family and me walk the footpath from Norton Bridge, over the river footbridge to this location. A lovely walk, where we sight stoats, owls, buzzards etc, as well as the terrific trains which have captivated me since I was a boy (now 48) and my 9 year old son. As far as I know, when the flyover goes in, the location will be changed drastically, and a freight spur will rejoin the WCML at the place you've been filming from. Here's hoping the footpath will remain! :-)

    Thanks for watching. I am not aware of the proposed flyover, I will have to research that. I hope your footpath remains and if diverted I hope it still offers the same pleasure when your out walking. Cheers, Steve.

    9:13 that looks strange considering the DVT, 12:56 those cars must have been going abroad with the shorter licence plate holders. Interesting catches!

      Must be very young mcsquare. Back in the days of Class 81s - 86s there were plenty of electric locos hauling freight! Been going on since the 1960s!

    I can't be sure, but I think that's something to do with overhead line maintenance. Cheers, Steve.

    Nice video. Just out of interest, why do they run 66s under the wires are there no equivalent electrics.

    Cheers, quickest way is to google 'Heamies Farm' and it brings up the relevant Trainspots page TS529... that details all about this location and how to get there etc.

    I never knew that the WCML and the ECML overlapped, where about is this

  • @Britlurker

    Why are all those trains running in the wrong direction (track second from camera)?

    • @steve71p
      @steve71p  9 років тому +6

      +Brit Lurker Looking from the camera tracks run... down slow, up slow, down fast, up fast

    • @Britlurker
      @Britlurker 9 років тому +4

      +steve71p OK! I'm more used to seeing up slow, up fast, down fast, down slow.

    • @danw1374
      @danw1374 7 років тому +1

      Nowadays yes due to the increased line speed and frequency of passenger services on the fast tracks, but I can remember back when it was british rail and id often see freight running on both.

    A great place to spend a few hours, 70 099, they should of left it in the Green livery to make it unique.

    • @steve71p
      @steve71p  10 років тому

      Yes I agree, it looked very distinctive in that livery. Thanks for watching, cheers, Steve.

    I noticed the WCML's overheads seem so much more cluttered and busy than the ECML's ... Is there any reason for this?

    • @sp00kywestie
      @sp00kywestie 9 років тому +1

      +ITL Models The WCML was electrified in the 60s, while the ECML was a lot more recent being done in the 80s and 90s. So the OHLE on the WCML is significantly older.

    • @jamesmckelvey
      @jamesmckelvey 9 років тому

      +SWR I see, thanks

    • @Britlurker
      @Britlurker 9 років тому

      +ITL Models The later gantries (ECML) are a less cluttered design and may be further apart as well.

    • @gjhpagel
      @gjhpagel 9 років тому

      +ITL Models The design you are mentioning is seen south of Weaver Junction. North up to Glasgow it matches the design on the ECML. It was cheaper to suspend the electric wires on another wire across the tracks. On the WCML south of Weaver they have steel gantries across the tracks not wires.

    • @DanielMartin-zf2xe

      It was caused by that freightliner 66 driver going too slow on a green signal Steve should of told him to get a move on lol
