- Is the Ivy really expensive, I would have to say no. Don't believe the hype - the Ivy is not expensive. Don't believe the Ivy is expensive, it really isn't. The Ivy restaurants have a beautiful ambience, great service and quality food. This eggs benedict was off the charts.
When visiting London, The Ivy is a place which we would all like to visit but sometimes the prices (or the hype) is off putting. Well, it is not always the case. A hearty breakfast from £10 - £15 i think is very reasonable.
What are your thoughts on the Ivy? Expensive or not? Darren John says not.

Eggs Benedict in Spoons in Sunderland is about £5 plus £1.20 for coffee. So in my view being from London albeit over 30 years ago I find that a very reasonable price to pay.
This is part of The Ivy Collection of more approachable cafe type places. The original Ivy on West Street has a different and more expensive menu - for example eggs Benedict is £20.95.
Got Covent Garden booked in June for a birthday meal!! Really looking forward to it

Great vlog Darren. My birthday tradition is always a family breakfast at The Ivy Tower Bridge (with a cheeky glass of champagne) followed by walk down the Thames path towards the Southbank - for more drinks!
Dazza, I don't think it's overly expensive myself however the mess the country is in with the cost of living a huge percentage of the British population are struggling to put food on the table and heat their homes and that's the folk out grafting every week.
The working class might find that expensive never mind folk that don't work.
I was one of those people - however, that's not the point here. I am showing London in every capacity, hopefully being creative along the way 👍🏼🙏🏼

Agree about the price in a place like that - not cheap but not extortionate. The poached eggs were definitely overdone though (unless you asked for them to be that way) and that's a bit sad for a quality restaurant, regardless of price.

As you say mate, its worth paying that little bit extra for the service, ambience and quality. I prefer suppporting local businesses than the big chains. You're spot on with this mate and thanks for sharing as always always buddy.
Another great video, hope your road trip goes well. Off on my motorbike with two great mates end of June visiting Casa Julian near San Sebastian Spain. It is rated as the best Steakhouse in the world 😊

One word to say about food is FANTASTIC.. Though I am vegetarian it looks really really awesome..secondly ur video quality now is on another level. Nice vlogs DJ as always.

What a great vid DJ. The Ivy restaurants are brilliant, and as you say dont break the bank. As for the hidden gems you find - reminds me why I love London so much and am blessed to live so close. You mentioned ivy asia - ive been to the one in Mayfair and that doesnt break the bank either and the food is "off the charts". Top man DJ.

You’re so right, it isn’t expensive and it looks a lot better than some full English breakfasts. Coffee looked so good too.
That’s the Ivy chain & they are dotted about everywhere, we have one in Hertfordshire. The original Ivy and the proper one is in West St by The Savoy. Different food and different prices.

Looked quality food in a quality establishment, and for where it is, a fair price. I had a chuckle to myself when reading in the menu . . . “fried ‘hens’ eggs”! All the best.

Love the Ivy, been twice recently in London - Covent Garden and Kensington high street. The food is AMAZING and well priced but the staff training needs to be looked at. Had the sough dough bread for starter and asked for balsamic vinegar (brought me chippy vinegar 🙈) The 2 members of staff who I spoke to had never heard of balsamic vinegar so nothing resolved!!! The Ivy in Edinburgh had some though 😂 Ordered a glass of Sauvignon blanc New Zealand from the wine list, it came and I knew it wasn’t Sauvignon, waiter took it away and came back and said they stopped it and gave me a different wine. Would’ve been good to ask me what I’d like as an alternative (this was all at Covent Garden) Then last Saturday the Ivy at Kensington, they brought my husbands starter and I was waiting for mine…ohh, this was served and they still hadn’t brought our bottle of wine that was ordered 😤 Then our mains came and of course 5 minutes later had to grab a member of staff to say we are still waiting for our side dishes. Didn’t complain at either restaurants as I feel it can spoil your meal but I intend to do an email to them. Has put me off the Ivy 😢

Recently we went for lunch in the Ivy Glasgow had 2 courses with a bottle of Malbec and Bottle Water our bill was £82 which we thought was value for money ❤👍

saying something is or is not expensive is realitive to your income or state of mind when it comes to food and how much it should or should not cost. I am always careful when I talk about prices.

Hi Darren. Definitely agree with you. I was at Las iguanas in Glasgow with my daughter and granddaughter today for lunch. No alcohol, 1 starter and no desserts and bill was £79.60. so they are all about the same now. But having their company is well worth it! Enjoy your day. 🥰🌞🥰Xxx

The perception that people won't visit a restaurant is that it's to expensive for what it is, I've always worked along the lines that once in a while or for a special occasion its always been a night to remember yes more expensive but those thoughts will always be with you and I'd much rather have the thoughts of an Ivy coffee than a Costa one😂

DJ this was bloody brilliant for so many reasons.
Firstly thank you for pointing out that we often ignore these more luxurious establishments because the average punter either thinks they are “too expensive” or assumes they not for “us normal folk”!!😂. I know for a fact there will be a lot of people watching this vlog, who will be inspired to go visit the Ivy because of your no nonsense logic!! You break down that ignorant “social perception” with this video and I hope it gives Joe public on the street the “encouraging nudge” to try it out. I for one had no idea it was this affordable.
Secondly the “Ivy perception” or those of a more “high brow notoriety”, is that it’s only for a certain clientele or for those with money!? You dispel that elephant in the room in you’re typical, laid back, approachable style!! It’s simply not the the case and almost anybody can enjoy these kind of places.
Thirdly not only was it a reasonable price it compliments your “food philosophy” that you are paying that “little bit” extra to enjoy not only the quality food but equally the beautiful surroundings which no doubt it is. Plus when you consider it isn’t that much more than most places it’s a no brainer.
As subscribers we appreciate you’re no frills, economy style of presenting, never too loud and never too much rambling just for the sake of it!! We watch you enjoying the food and this “says it all”. We don’t want or indeed require a running commentary every “5 seconds”.
I think you have made the viewer(me anyway) think in a different way about quality food, whilst still being affordable. That it’s a fine line between paying for cheap, rubbish/average food or paying that “little bit more” for an all round better experience.
The look on your face told us everything we needed to know about the quality of what you were eating. Eggsellent!!
You continue to push the boundaries of how we perceive food and the places that we eat it in. To the discerning connoisseur(if I may be so bold to say so) it’s much appreciated.

I think DJ is authentic and off the charts. This video was a real eye opener hence my response. Taking ten minutes out of my day to write down my thoughts is no big shakes!!😂.x
If I could go there and have those eggs but not with salmon though I'd be happy, I've had a look at the menu and even I think it looks reasonable. They do a burger for £17 with chips I think that's fine and £19.50 for shepherds pie again I think that is reasonable and also it's London so I agree with DJ its reasonable. Also for DJ a nice treat and one he shared with all, so thank you DJ.
Go to ivy Asia and have the Asian experience. £50 but what an experience absolutely gorgeous

Good prices for London and it looked nice
Only ever been to the Ivy once in Clifton, however was not impressed breakfast and service were average at best, sort of put me off going again. Your experience seems to have been better, certainly looked good
That meal and coffee, with tax and an expected tip of about 25% [or just take the scowls and laugh], would cost you well over $40 in Manhattan. Eggs were over-poached for me, but otherwise perfection on a plate.
Yes definitely OTC! Why not enjoy an upscale place once in a while?

I totally agree with you Darren, I have asked you before when are you taking me? We can go Dutch as I am rather partial to a G@T with Ivy fish and chips. You pay £3.50 in Costa for coffee .You are right you are in a lovely restaurant .

Looks great Darren and although not put off by it, the eggs were overcooked to my taste. Runny yolk or not for me a no-brainer. Runny, Price not an issue for quality.
