This was a good review man! Been looking for a good reviews with someone showing what it looks like under the truck too. Definitely helped!
Best video ive seen for a 3.5 lift thanks!
This very much helped me out in choosing a lift-kit for my 2015 silverado 1500. Very few video creators do not show the public the suspension angles of their system after installing any level/lift-kit. Based on this video I will be choosing this kit for my truck, due to the spindles allowing much better ball joint angles, especially for the lower ball joint since a lot of people only think of the upper ball joint. The plus of not being able to chop up your pride and joy is a big positive when choosing smaller level/lift-kits, whether you own your truck or leasing it to then return the truck in the future. I am a mechanic for GM cars and trucks and having to keep the stock upper control arms for this kit is a big no-brainer. The stock upper control arms for these trucks are very reliable and for the years that I have been in the mechanic field, I have never replaced a single upper control arm on both (correctly) lifted or stock suspension angles for GM trucks. Thank you for the in-depth video of your very nice truck with a very underrated level-lift kit.
Just bought the exact truck and lift, great video thanks!
Really good video, I'm looking at this kit for my 2016, just debating tire sizes, would love to see you do an update on this and let us know how it's been!
Thank you for making this. I had an 07.5 also with a 3.5” lift and I had to replace control arms and ball joints every year for inspection. I got 2015 back in February and I’ve been doing as much research as I can. I also am a rough country fan and I’ve must of overlooked this kit I didn’t know they had a 3.5 knuckle kit. Hopefully it’s holding out well for you I believe this will be the kit I get!
So true, as a owner of this kit it has bad cv angles and and it’s killer on ball joints
Did you have to get a wheel alignment?
Also, some comparisons between bilstein ans RC N1 rear shocks would be great.
Buying this kit because of this review. Thank you sir.
brad burns yup, me too because of this review
Glad I could help!
Appreciate the video. It helped me decide to purchase this kit for my 2015 Silverado. It looks amazing.
Thanks again brotha!
No problem at all! glad i could help!
Jose Gutierrez how’s it holding up for ya?
I love it. The ride is still good, I really can't tell the difference from the factory ride and this knuckle lift. Another plus are the CV joints are pretty straight.
Gives it the stance I want too. Not too high, but just right.
i just purchased my knuckle kit. my shop said i would have to change ball joints maybe every few years. i went with 20x10 - 18 with this kit with. love the look of yours, the stance is nice with those -24 wheels
I had the RC 5 inch kit installed on my 2016 Silverado, on my 3rd set of ball joints. I regret buying my lift
MrColt88 I’m at 3.5”
And my ball joint geometry is pretty even. I knew going higher would give me issues if I didn’t go with forged upper control arms.
IDoPhotography they’re just wanting you to come back in and spend your money at their store. That knuckle lift really cuts down on ball joint ware
Nice explanation. Not sure why more people don’t do the knuckle lifts. Makes a lot more sense.
Right on, man. Looks and sounds great!
I needed to see this. Thanks man. Nice truck.
Thanks and no problem! i still love the kit!
Thank you so much! This helped me a lot!
Great video, thanks. Installing this exact kit in my 2015 Silverado next week.
Hi Rob how do you like the looks and ride on your 15? I thinking the same on my LTZ.
@@robertrager2691 looks awesome bud! I actually added an additional 1" block in the rear, so I am going to add a 1.5" spacer to the front. Then I'm going up a tire size from 285 to 305.
I have the 3.5 RC lift. No problems at all 2years now but I only have 14000 miles on my truck.
So I just got three and a half inch lifted struts from Rough Country which should be a more comfortable ride I'm glad I also looked into it because I do need the knuckles and a diff spacers, Rancho suspension on that truck is way to stiff
Bad loookin truck brother! Im looking at the exact wheels and was wondering what offset your running? -24 or -44? Thats all im seeing in the 20x10
2 questions if you or anybody knows.
1.) can I use my stock 20” wheels with this setup? I think I read somewhere that I can.
2.) Do you have a wheel spacer in the rear so the reset matches the front on how much it sticks out?
Truck looks great by the way. Nice job.
Nice review!
I just put this kit on my 14 Sierra and I threw 35s on 22 Denali wheels
Just had to trim a little and they don’t rub anymore
How is it working out for you? I have a 2014 sierra also and want this kit.
Getting this same kit put in tomorow for my 2015 Chevy Silverado! Very excited, I noticed in the video you said 2” back blocks but do you happen to know if it’s actually the 3” that you have in the back?
I believe it is 2” but i did not measure maybe they are 2.5
Very helpful thanks! You just made my decision a lot easier, not many people have done an actual review on this lift. Any chance you would post a video of your truck parked next to a stocker? love to see the difference. Also black bowtie inside looks slick, nice ride.
I can get a video for you and share a link to it to show the difference from this and stock but i do have photos of it.
Nick Meucci would love to see either!
I would also love to see it next to a stock truck please would make my decision alot easier
Brandyn Jackson me too.. have a 2017 Denali 1500 with RC 2” level, and want more. Want to get this 3.5” knuckle, but want to know if it’s noticeable difference. Don’t want to go 5-6” lift if this is noticeable..
Nick Montour I don’t think you can use this kit on a Denali
Thanks for the video
Have you had any issues with this kit after a year if you still own this truck just curious because I’m looking to getting the same kit for my single cab Sierra
Great video thx a bunch
Great look but I'm guessing you regrest going with a deep negstive offset on your rims? Way too kuch rubbing and having to cut into the truck to get rid of it.
Quick question just got this kit but mine rides a lil rougher now. Is that normal? I can feel the bumps on the road more now
Any rubbing on your wheels? I want to put a -12 offset on mine but worried about rubbing with same kit.
I bought the same kit for my 2014 silverado w/the lifted struts.....worst ever!!! Right out of the box the ride was stiffer then the leveling kit I had prior. Also not even having the kit for a year the ball joints went out. No Cadillac ride for me. So I just changed my lift with a 4.5 maxtrax spindle lift with bilstien shocks and Wow what a difference!!! Looks better and the ride is night and day compared to rough country. I really wanted to like the rough country kit bit I had to move on.
this is not comparable to that kit with the Knuckles. the kits are not even close to the same.
I don’t think you were paying close attention
I’m thinking about this same kit, did you use the bilstein adjustable struts to add a the 2” to the 4.5”? And has there been any angle issues ?
@@B-Rad-Gee I just got the regular bilstein shocks....no need for a lifted strut because the spindle lifts it for you. You can even use the stock spindle if you choose...check out my page for a video of the set up! Thanks
@@1lilmagoo I think Perez failed to tell us his Silverado is only 2WD big difference! ive checked maxtrac numerous times & as far as i can tell there is no spindle lift for a 4WD Silverado so correct me if im wrong which im hoping i am so i can check it out to see if its feasible for my needs!
Look nice brother 👍🇺🇸
The knuckle kit pushes out front wheels about 1.5". Did you add rear spacers so back wheels would line up with fronts? Looks great thanks for posting!
That is on a bigger kit. This one does not do that. Front and rear are same track width
Wish lift is better knuckle lift kit or upper control arm?
Does it sit leveled or is the back a bit higher?
How was the diff drop spacer to install? Probably not ro bad eh? I haven't put mine on yet. I have the black 7z1 18 also. With motofab 3" front, 2" rear. And readylift upper control arms. Your truck looks good 👍
Thanks! it was easy to install. use a sawsall and not a grinder to cut the cooling fins off. That is my word of advice!
Does it fit in your garage height wise? If so how tall is your garage door?
I'm trying to get the same sound, same lift kit, and same tires ur truck has
what was your height of the truck after the lift?
What's the cab height now with the whole new set up?
Did you delete your resonator with the flow master?
How's your mpg now?
Question I love the way your truck looks. I’m looking to basically do the same thing with my 2021 Chevy Silverado. The only thing that I wanna do different and this is just for gas mileage purposes is instead of a 12 inch wide tire I would like to go with an 11 inch tire. Just wondering how that would look with a 3 1/2 inch left 20 inch rims 33 inch tires with a 11 inch wide?
it really all depends on your rims. If running stock rims you wont get out the side much at all. I recommend checking out Custom Wheel offset for pictures of what you are looking. www.customwheeloffset.com/?gclid=CjwKCAjwjtOTBhAvEiwASG4bCGeiYsHjxRydvAX2sNDE9pjcNfjvISevhBk1SHFV9HNAue_h5ZR40BoCJHoQAvD_BwE
are you able to change your oil without jacks w this lift or nah?
Nice truck just for me
Nice truck 33's rub with this kit?
I prefer this over 6 inch lift
Great video man. Did your front wheels stick out farther than your rear wheels with the knuckle kit? Did you have to get rear wheel spacers to accommodate to even then out? I’m decided on this kit but I’m between this knuckle kit VS the control arm kit which is $50 more. I want to get this one but not if it’s going to make my front wheels stick out farther. Also I love the look of the your setup. I’m on 22s but after seeing your lift and wheel setup I believe I’m going to switch it up like your setup.
Did you purchase it? If so did it pull your front wheels out? I’m on 20x12 so I’m sticking out pretty far already and don’t wanna stick out even more
@@Em_jiggy I never bought it. I ended up selling my truck.
@@ricardodelaguila3587 what’d u buy as replacement?
@@Em_jiggy now I’m driving a GMC Yukon Denali.
Thanks, no this kit doesnt do that with the front track width.
Can I ask how tall does this life make the roof of the truck?
With the 3.5” knuckle kit your running do the front wheels poke out more than the rear? Or are all four corners the same? Looking into this. Thanks for the video
According to RC website it does not add poke to front tires.
No sir they only stick out because of the -24 offset rims.
What side steps do you have? Really like the look of them
they actually came on the truck so I cannot say exactly what they are.
Could you fit 35s on with the lift ?
What was the size of the stock rims and tires on that truck before you put on the new wheels and how badly did it affect your gas mileage with the new rims and tires??
Ride quality suffered the most. i average 18 with a combo of city and hwy mileage.
It rides crappy because of the stock shocks. Also upgrade your tie rods, upper control arm, and sway bar and sway bar link
Just read this in the overview section of the RC 3.5in. knuckle kit.
NOTES - IMPORTANT
Does NOT work with aftermarket control arms
Can we get an update/review on how this lift is doing for you? how many miles have you put on, wear on steering components?
Currently at 17,000 miles roughly on the lift and it is performing great. no issues with tire wear or anything. Ride has wither become softer or I am just more used to it but still love it.
@@1lilmagoo Would you also say that even though it is a little rougher ride than stock it now feels like you're driving in an actual truck? I appreciate the great smooth ride GMC has produced on the truck as stock, but honestly I like feeling the tires hit the road rather than it feeling like I'm driving in a smooth sedan. Know what I mean?
Looks so good for me,mind asking how much it cost
It was like $600 for the life and like $1900 for the rims and tires mounted and balanced from Custom Offset plus $75.00 for alignments. i have about 60K on the lift and stuff now and it is holding up fine but it did start out with alignment issues. I recommend buying the longer Cam bolts.
Did you have to cut anything
Where you able to get the skid plate back on after installing this?
I threw a couple sheet metals screws in it and washers and called it a day!
Seen another guy make a video where he made a couple of notches in the factory skid plate and it looked great!
How has your gas mileage changed since you put on the left and tires?
Honestly i only had the truck for 2K miles before adding the lift and tires. It has been a good kit but if you purchase buy the longer Cam bolts to help alignment.
Hey man hows your fuel economy and what's your driving highway to city%
I have gotten over 23MPG HWY in NC on some nice flat roads. but typically i am getting around 17 mixed city and highway.
What was your mileage before putting on the tires?
Did you need the 1/4” wheel spacers from rc also?
Thats only for the stock wheels I believe
That is only for stock wheels
What model of the pure grit wheels are those.
Pure Grit Grit PG101
Is that a 5.3 in your truck or do you have the 6.2
5.3L
What's type of sway bar links for this kit
Stock
Any alignment issues after having it on?
A weird scalloping on the inside of the tires. Not sure but even having tires on the back and multiple rotations did not stop it. I have had about 3 alignments since having this lift installed which is a little over 2 years now. I do have 45K miles on these tires. let me get it washed up and I will do an overview of that lift for a follow up.
I’m new to this so does the 3.5 kit level it too? I was going to just get a 2 inch leveling kit but I like this height.
Yes it does
3.5 does not level out your truck. You will be slightly higher in the front. What makes this leveled is the block added to the rear to lift and level it out.
what is the height to the top of your cab with this lift?
I want to know too, to see if it will fit in my garage.
Is your truck completely level? Have you measured it
derrick galvan no i have the same lift and it still has a slight rake, maybe 2 inches higher in rear
M K easily fixed by buying 1” blocks instead of using the ones that come
With the kit.
It still has a slight rake to it. I would say about an inch but i have never put a tape on it to see.
Hey it’s been 2 years u still got that truck and lift how’s it holding up lol
Still have the truck and same lift. It is holding up well. I am having a little bit of inside tire wear and have had it aligned 3 times since the lift kit. They informed me I need longer Cam bolts to get the Cam inline. I think it might go out over time which is causing the issue. I will say it is not the greatest ride, and if i were to do it again now that they came out with the 5" RC kit with the lifted knuckles (it was not available when i purchased this kit) They only had the 5" bracket lift and it was way to much cutting on a new truck for me. That is the lift I originally wanted but I am impatient and could not wait. Either way it is holding up well no issues besides the inside of tires wearing slightly premature. Here in NC I have put around 45K miles on these tires so far. Hope this helps. If anyone asked would you put this one your truck again. The answer is yes.
How the ride now before and after
the ride was a bit rough at first but after 17K miles it has calmed down nicely. I love it.
Any tire rub?
Hows it holding up? Still happy with it?
I wish i went with a "real" lift kit. like the 5" knuckle kit but when I bought this they only said that the 5" bracket lift was all that was available for an 2018 and I didnt want that kit. Either way it has been a fine kit and i have now been wanting to upgrade to a bigger lift.
I was told to stay out the negative cause it won’t fit for as the wheels.
07-13 with the 3.5rc you must buy the UCAs to get a better ride. Don’t cheap out with those.
DJIP3SCLIPS you can get a knuckle kit with those now too
I’m waiting for my kit to come in, I’m glad I bought the UCAs as well
UCA's are not able to work on this kit. I called to ask that question if i can use some RC UCA's as well and they said no they will not work. This was because of the new angle they use on the top of the spindle. i believe it is a little longer than the stock one as well.
I called them today about this knuckle kit and asked about the RC upper control arm and they told me no, you are double or over compensating if I did install both. Knuckle 3.5 lift kit or the upper control arm 3.5 lift kit. You have to pick one. They recommend the knuckle lift kit over the upper controls arm set up.
Anonymous ooh yeah if you have the knuckles you’re good lol
Can you fit 35s on this ?
No I would not advise that. Maybe on stock rims but with the offset no way.
Do you have any problems with your tires rubbing?
Dam I'm guessing u didnt even watch the video..that's the 1st thing he said
Did they cut the front bump stops off?
I did it myself in my buddies garage. Honestly it was 2 years ago and I cannot really remember. Here is a link to the install instructions to see what is required.
s3.amazonaws.com/roughcountry/install/921121300.pdf
@@1lilmagoo yeah by the instructions it does say to cut out bump stop, I ended up installing a 4 in lift and didn’t cut anything, hope I don’t have a problem with mine
20 inch tires correct?
20" rims 33" tires
What size tires?
33x12.50 R20
Did this lift push your wheels out any further?
No it does not.
Any spacers ?
No sir, just 20x10 with a -24 offset.
Did you have to cut the bump stops for your upper control arms on the frame
I cut one side and bent them down. but it is in the instructions for the kit to do so.
Nick Meucci yeah after further research the zone 4.5 or BDS 4 inch is a much better option.
Nick Meucci you retain totally factory angles with the drop crossmembers and knuckles with no cutting. Not trying to hack on the frame of my nice truck.
Those r fury tires not fuel
good catch! i totally said fuel. the sticker on the back says fury and so does the tires lol.
To think a 4inch lift on my super duty I can fit 40’s ha ha 2.5inch leveled 38’s damn Chevy at least they changed it
yeah it is stupid! I knew it buying the truck though haha.
*cough ...pavement princess but hey ... I guess not bad. You did a decent job showing and explaining 🤷🏽♂️
It sure is. Its a pain cleaning off Mud HAHA. It only sees it a few times a year even where I hunt it is a smoothe dirt road
Btw this is the most removed lift kit
I bet it is. I actually want to move up to the 5" knuckle kit. my problem was when i bought this the 5" knuckle kit was not available.
why?
Way better than 6inch,
Not too much and still look aggressive
Did you have to cut anything
No i did not. The 33's do rub a little and could use a norcal fender mod to make it perfect but it isnt bad enough to go through the hassle.
So no cutting at all? Didn't want to cut into the truck but install want you to cut a channel in the cross member and to cut off the front stop supports....by far the best video I've seen so far
