Written by the Bee Gees for the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, one of the best selling albums of all time. "Stayin' Alive," "How Deep is Your Love," "Night Fever," "More Than a Woman."
Most of Yvonne Elliman hit songs were written by the Bee Gees just so you know. The Bee Gees had over 100 top 10 hits that they wrote for themselves and other artists.
She sang Mary Magdalene on the original 'Jesus Christ Superstar' album, had a major hit with 'I Don't Know How to Love Him' from that album, toured with Eric Clapton for '461 Ocean Boulevard'.
Yvonne was one of two people to appear on the album, stage, and movie of Jesus Christ Superstar, and she toured with Eric Clapton in support of four albums until 1977. I only saw her perform once, with Eric, and he turned the stage over to her for Can't Find My Way Home, the Blind Faith chestnut. I guess the vocal is out of his range, and he always turns it over to someone else in his band if he performs it.
@@donnalombardo1135 omg that's it! Since I first saw her sing this years ago she looked familiar to me but I never investigated it.now you say it yes that's where I saw her in JC superstar film.i'm not religious but love that film.haven't seen it in a long time.
Yvonne was on the RSO Label with the Bee Gees, Barry & Robin wrote the lead single "Love Me" from her album of the same name, which was released in 1976. The song reached #14 Billboard Hot 100 and #5 on the A/C chart in 1976. Back in 1971, she reached #28 with I Don't Know How to Love Him from Jesus Christ Superstar. RSO also released her cover of the Barbra Lewis tune Hello Stranger, which went #15 on the Hot 100 and #1 on the A/C chart in 1977. Before this song from Saturday Night Fever went #1 on the Hot 100. Interesting note the song "How Deep Is Your Love" (the Bee Gees biggest hit & also from Saturday Night Fever), was originally intended for Yvonne. But the Bee Gees manager heard the demo, and told them to keep the song. So Yvonne got "If I Cant' Have You " to sing instead.
Mick, nice info.... Music Mogul Robert Stigwood oversaw those projects and signed those artists to his label RSO Records (Robert Stigwood Organization)... looks like a typo on your comment.
This woman is Mary Magdalen in the film Jesus Christ Superstar. Her performance of "I Don't Know How to Love Him" is breathtaking. Great musical and she was amazing.
I was in Junior High when the whole disco thing started. I fell in love with the music and dancing. But I was too young to go to a real disco. This song was on the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever. It was rated R and my parents wouldn't let me see it, but I bought the album and played it everyday. I had a John Travolta poster on my wall and practiced the steps that I saw every Saturday on American Bandstand and Soul Train. Disco dancing was so much fun. Love the video, total "Banger". :)
She has always been One of My favorites. She has had a varied career from Eric Clapton to Jesus Christ Superstar to The Bee Gees and Her solo career. So much emotion. Very underrated!
She played Mary Magdalene in the movie "Jesus Christ Superstar [1973]." In that movie she sings "I Don't Know How to Love Him." It became monster hit for her too. Brilliant!
She is an amazing singer and she has played the role of Mary Magdalene in the 1973 movie Jesus Christ Superstar. She was amazing in that movie as well.
Saw her in Hawaii in early 1980! She was just amazing! And she had a great sense of humor in between songs. I think she is FROM Hawaii now that I remember...Beautiful! Thank you! SS: Another excellent song by her is Hello Stranger- and Mary Wells did that song first! Both are excellent.
That was a great disco song to dance to. John Travolta dances to it in the studio with his upcoming competition dance partner in the movie Saturday Night Fever.
Wow, one beautiful epic, song from SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, what power house of a voice. The DISCO, area. Remember dancing to this song, in the night clubs, on a Saturday night. Man what great memories, this song brings back. Miss those great times. Thank you for this vedio.
I always loved this song. Her voice is beautiful for one. But I have FELT this, and don't wish it on anyone. Loving someone that doesn't love you back is a terrible thing. And I'll never go through that again.
YVONNE ELLIMAN, "IF I CAN'T HAVE YOU". SHE WAS KNOWN ABOUT BY PLAYING, MARY MAGELLAN IN THE BROADWAY PLAY/ AND 1973 MOVIE "JESUS CHRIST SUPESTAR" SHE SANG "EVERYTHING'S ALRIGHT", AND "I DON'T KNOW HOW TO LOVE HIM"... FANTASTIC VOICE
Love YVonne, have since I first heard her on Jesus Christ Superstar in 1970. This is wonderful Listen to "I Don't Know How To Love Him", her hit off that album.
She really has a beautiful voice! And what kind of voodoo juice did the BeeGees drink that they could produce that many hits, not only for themselves, but for so many other artists as well?! Amazing.
I was born in 96 ❤ obviously I didn't exist in the 70s or 80s where rock was everything, my parents tell me since I was little girl that the 80s were their favorite years, unforgettable memories, beauty in every step, etc etc. I know many songs from the 80s thanks to my dad 😊 I have to say that this song and many others are really precious, a gem! And I envy you all for having lived in those times 😍😍
One of my favorites from the SNF soundtrack. Lots of good songs from the disco era. You guys should check out “Don’t Leave Me This Way” by Thelma Houston!
It’s amazing, I have loved Yvonne elliman as a singer and actress since 1973 and my only grandbaby looks just like her. Japanese, Mexican, Swedish, Australian. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Yvonne Elliman WOW really like that song. thank you guys. might like-[April wine-tonite is a wonderful time to fall in love-you could have been a lady]
I always loved this song. Frankly I never noticed how sad it is. I LOVED the music and the tempo, I always was happy when I heard it! Lol My sister pointed out it was sad and I was shocked! Haha. I always pride myself on really noticing the lyrics! I totally missed this one!!! Hahaha
I think you've finally reacted to one of my suggestions. Of course, the BeeGees wrote this. Yvonne also did a great cover of "Love Me", which was a big hit for her. Perhaps my second favorite song off of the Saturday Night Fever album after "Night Fever".
This Bee Gees-written track went to #1 from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. She also covered the Bee Gees a couple of years earlier with the hit "Love Me." She sang back-up for Eric Clapton for several years in the early '70s.
Such a 70's disco tune. I remember being at the roller skating rink skating around the rink to this tune, disco ball presenting the images all over the floor and the disco lights changing. I was about 13 trying to pick up some girls at the roller rink. Nothing is sexier than roller skates. LOL
Actually she is from Hawaii. Great voice, always dug it. Definitely my favorite disco song, tho there's only 2 more I enjoyed. Thats how much I enjoyed disco. Haha! Had a beautiful song I don't Know How to Love Him maybe 1971. Believe shes still performing, love her voice.
Yvonne Elliman sings most of the songs in the movie Jesus Christ Superstar the biggest hit from that movie I don't know how to love you. That's the song You might want to check out for Yvonne Elliman that was a really big song of hers for a long time.
Oh you definitely need to hear her sing "I don't know how to love him" from Jesus Christ Superstar... or better yet, watch the movie version... a LOT of great music there. Yvonne plays Mary Magdalene... and does a wonderful job!
In Detroit in the '70s we had the Boblo Boat that would take us to Boblo Island Amusement Park. I was a lil' girl dancing my lil' disco heart out to this sound while drawing quizzical stares from older middle school-age boys who didn't know what to make of me. Every time I hear this song I feel like a little girl dancing like nobody's watching!
The Bee Gees wrote this song and it is also featured in the 1977 movie Saturday Night Fever with all those other Bee Gees songs. So can you imagine how emotion she is singing with and she didn't even write the song.
Her first hit was very emotional-I Don't Know How to Love Him-taken from the Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack-Yvonne played the part of Mary Magdalene-in this song she is singing about Jesus. Jesus Christ Superstar is definately a movie you'll want to check out-the actor who played Jesus, singer Ted Neeley gives an outstanding performance.
Written by the Bee Gees for the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, one of the best selling albums of all time. "Stayin' Alive," "How Deep is Your Love," "Night Fever," "More Than a Woman."
Love the bee gees version too
Greatest
Yvonne Elliman also played Mary Magdalene in the classic Rock-Opera movie Jesus Christ Superstar (1973).
Saw her as Mary third row on Broadway when I was 15.
I still have a crush on her.😅
Most of Yvonne Elliman hit songs were written by the Bee Gees just so you know. The Bee Gees had over 100 top 10 hits that they wrote for themselves and other artists.
Always loved this song,it was written by the awesome Bee Gees 🎵❤
This song has a haunting melody, one of the best of 70’s disco.
spot on with that comment!
I believe the orchestration which adds so much power and depth to these production is overlooked.
It’s pronounced ELL-iman with the emphasis on the first syllable. She is a great vocalist, love this one! 🙂🙂🙂
This lady is not only beautiful but can sing !
She sang Mary Magdalene on the original 'Jesus Christ Superstar' album, had a major hit with 'I Don't Know How to Love Him' from that album, toured with Eric Clapton for '461 Ocean Boulevard'.
She was in the movie too and got nominated for a golden globe for best actress but unfortunately didn't win
She won a Grammy for this too

"I Don't Know How to Love Him" was beautiful!

It was written by all 3 Gibb brothers…..Barry, Robin as well as Maurice🎼.

I recommended this over a month ago. They're probably taking note.

this was a huge song in the summer when it came out! A favorite of mine...thanks for the memory.
Great song
Around 1970, in Jesus Christ Superstar, she sang so beautifully, I Don t Know How To Love Him. She has a beautiful voice.
Try a listen to Yvonne Elliman singing "I don't know how to love him" Beautiful piece from Jesus Christ Superstar back in late 60's
Love this song she's so good.
This woman is Mary Magdalen in the film Jesus Christ Superstar. Her performance of "I Don't Know How to Love Him" is breathtaking. Great musical and she was amazing.
We had some great music to enjoy back then.
So much dancing 💃 to this back in the day.
I'm chair dancing now 🤗
You are not supposed to dance to this but in a club we always did ! 😘🤔🤗
I was in Junior High when the whole disco thing started. I fell in love with the music and dancing. But I was too young to go to a real disco. This song was on the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever. This Is One of the best songs ever..
I remember this song; my mom had a wide taste in music. Sounds like a song written by the Bee Gees. I can hear them sing this.
The definitely wrote this and it's in the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack
I remember hearing this song along with Nicollette Larson "Lotta love" and Olivia Newton John "A little more love" around the same time

Truly the 70s the magic era for music in all forms.😏
She is under rated. I was 11 yrs old when this came out.
The Bee Gees wrote this song and it is also featured in the 1977 movie Saturday Night Fever with all those other Bee Gees songs. So can you imagine how emotion she is singing with and she didn't even write the song.
Great song for up-tempo couples dancing.
Her first hit was very emotional-I Don't Know How to Love Him-taken from the Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack-Yvonne played the part of Mary Magdalene-in this song she is singing about Jesus.
