I used to play this beautiful song over and over on vinyl record many years ago as a child, now 50. I just thought of this song recently, my life has been a roller coster but my love for Jesus has never faded. Yvonne's voice is just stunning!
I can Totally relate young sister as i too have been thru so much , and to end up alone at 62 but finally learned how to say No and Yes to myself . God is and always will be my first love , but there is a old song by Roy Clark that kinda sums up my life ! Yeaterday when i was young . I do hope you listen to it and i pray you are doing well now :)
Yvonne, YOU are as beautiful as the song you sing. And your voice, your beauty and your gift has blessed us all. Thank you, thank you and thank you! “Beauty will save the world” Dostoevsky ❤️🎶❤️🎶
It's not just the voice, the expression....., when I bring this song in my mind it's identified with you Yvonne! Thank you so much! Your performance of this song cannot be compared. You're the soul of it!
Wow, my video has been watched more than 100,000 times! Thanks to everyone! And of course a very special thanks to Yvonne Elliman for giving this unique performance. I feel soooo lucky that I could see her live.
I am 22 years old, heard this song for the first time about a week ago, and i watched this video for the first time just now. Haven’t been this overcome with emotion in some time. There’s a depth to her voice I haven’t heard before. This one is good for the heart.
Andrew Lloyd Webber was a genius in bringing this "Jesus Christ " to life for our generation as he did & the cast were so perfect in their presentation that I watch this movie every year since I first saw it on video tape. In all of the music within the genius of Webber & his cast, this is my favorite out of all my favorites, although many are tied for close seconds.
Dank voor deze opname! Ik woon in Nederland, als ik dit geweten had zeg.... dan was ik hier heel graag bij geweest. Deze stem heeft mij altijd geraakt, van jongs af aan.... nogmaals, dank voor het posten!
If there is 1 singer who has emotion in her voice it’s Yvonne Elliman!! As a kid I listen to her songs ....and her voice would touch my heart. And now in 2019 she still has that same effect on me. Tanks for posting....
I had to come to the comment by Walter Goyen to verify that it was indeed Barry Dennen that I recognized next to her. But Yvonne Eliman... What a fantastic presence! Thank you for the memories! To the entire cast, you all have my undying love and respect!
40 plus years on When I first heard Superstar, this was the outstanding song.. Like the song, I still don't know how to love him The voice may be a little different, but the question lingers. God bless Yvonne and all else involved, purposefully or unwittingly.
Having been sexually abused as a child and ending up on drugs and working for the profession of selling my soul and my body, I have struggled with allowing him to love me and loving him too. I saw the original movie in the 70's and this was the one song that moved me and still does. I try so hard but still struggle with totally allowing him to love me and knowing how to love him.
So beautiful. I saw her sing this in the film so many years ago. It has never left my mind because of her beautiful voice, beautiful presence and emotional delivery.
i just love her all the songs she has sang has remberance to my past in avon park florida growing up i miss all my friends there i hope they are reading my post
No song ever has had this kind of a hold on me,, I literally get the good chills when I hear it,, 1973 I was 13 and that movie gripped me as much as the song. TED NEELY AND YVONNE HAVE never left my heart,,this song is as timeless as JCS
If there was ever one magnificent song written for one magnificent performer, this is it. From the first time I heard it as a 10 year old to this time it has never failed to take me to a new and better place.
Yvonne is the best. I have literally spent hours playing her version back to back to back with Melanie Chisholm’s version. I love them both. Yvonne’s voice is magical, and has only gotten better.
@@AdamSandaver Ah. I thought the music was released from the movie in 73. You are right, 1970 Stage. And hearing it again, I am back to watching it a Little Creek. Still awed.
Lorraine: Hi Yvonne, Oh it's been so many years and you still make me cry with your very, very beautiful voice. If there was ever a song that moved me to tears, it was you singing then "I don't know how to love him" in my favorite movie of all time "Jesus Christ Superstar". My sister and I saw that movie so many times, I can't even begin to count. We loved your acting and of course, your unbelievably beautiful singing. To know that you sang this song exactly the same way in 2017 as you did back then is truly amazing. You're AMAZING and BEAUTIFUL! It's so wonderful to see you and I pray that life is treating you beautifully. Take care! Lorraine
Yvonne still has it. In many ways her alto voice has gotten even richer and more powerful through the years. I so miss Barry Dennan though. He was phenomenal. Doesn't he look like he's in awe of her here? I know I am.
Thanks!! Yes, I am quite happy with the result, knowing that we were sitting so far away and my camera was really very, very small. Look for "Sony HX90V" to see how small it actually is. It worked really well for such a big distance, although it was very difficult to keep it steady.
Her voice is still so strong....and I remember that song so well, as well as "If I can't have you" , from Saturday Night Fever"....one of my favourite songs :-)
Thank you so much for this! I have loved Yvonne's beautiful singing from the moment I first saw JCS in the theatre. Bought her 1st album and it is still one of my absolute favorites! It is on UA-cam also, as well as Food Of Love, her 2nd album. Both are wonderful!
Yvonne Elliman's original rendition of this song is simply the best. When she sang the song in the original Broadway production, she was very young and had a raw and innocent voice that suited her age, the role, and the song. Others who have sang the song have been older and have more of the typical Broadway show tune voice. I still get emotional when I hear Yvonne Elliman's original Broadway performance.
Watching this brilliant video for over 40yrs on its a shame she could sing love me If i can't have you back in the day but i do respect her wishes will and always was brilliant underated soul funk artist i respect she bowed out gracefully.
She didn't just keep her voice, she looks magnificent. God has a plan for us, all. She has definitely been, blessed with talent, health, and looks. So nice to see this.
I've thought for a moment..did I really see and hear her sing 49 years ago? A friend of a friend was the master electrician with the production. It was at The Universal Theater in Los Angeles. Nearly 50 years have passed since, I still hear her..
She really knows how keep her pitches under full control! Good back up band; she s Japanese and Irish ! Beautiful voice she has when singing 2017! Well done Yvonne Elliman!

No song on Planet Earth ever moved me like this one. From the 1970's till today this song still rattle's me to the core.
This song always moves me, even now I’m 42… Great voice!
I was 14 yrs old, seeing this movie at the cinema. I was so enthralled I sat through the second showing also. Still moves me.
Yes, I feel the same way
I love her voice and at 65 she sounds as good or better than she did in her 20s. So under rated ! Thanks for posting
Definitely better!!!
So much emotion!

Superstar, in Yvonne.
My God, what a voice! It's only gotten better with time. Stunning performance.
The best voice I ever heard.
I'd have melted here.
This woman is an icon
Loyd Webber and Tim Rice wrote it but it's Yvonnes song.
awesome woman...she is so natural...her voice its almost the same....love you Yvonne god bless you..!!!!!!
There will only be one JC Superstar movie and cast with Ted, Yvonne and the rest. Sorry to say the rest are just far behind.

Michael Windle very talented, funny tok
wow, she's absolutely stellar! That voice is healthy and strong all these years later.
Thanks for posting this beautiful video. She was and still is great. Remember when hit Broadway back in 1971. Everyone talked about it. Beautiful.

My God, she can still bring it! Thank you so much Ms. Elliman!
No auto tune . God what a voice.
I ran a movie theatre when this was first out and fell in love with the movie and her, still brings tears to my eyes.
Very expressive voice conveying emotion.

Beautiful song sung by a beautiful soul
Breathtaking still. I think her voice is even more beautiful now. And her backing music here is very effective. Thank you for posting. 💛🙏🏼

Her voice hasn't changed a bit! Astonishing talent, so much feeling giving it her all after all those years.

Awesome! Please come back to Guam. Wow! After all these years, we finally met. You are so beautiful. Take care! Love you forever!
Wasn't she and her then husband arrested in Guam on a minor drug charge? I think she will avoid Guam.
