This is one of the most eye opening cleaning videos I have ever seen. I had never thought to cleanb my machine other than with the white vinegar rinse cycle and a wipe over with a dettol wipe. Within moments of watching it, I paused at each step and found this gentleman's advice to be so clear I could work through and clean every part of my machine as he did. I am in a state of shock. I live in Sydney where everyone now has mould problems and things smelling - I am thrilled to have conquered something I would never have imagined I could do. And oh so easy thank you very much. I also should say I have found Fisher and Paykel products to be amazing. This wachine machine was so easy to install - i bought it at a time it came with a video in a cassette!! Which explained what to do - and amazingly it worked so quickly - and I have never ever had to have it repaired. Thank you again and hats off to this gentleman for such clarity and lack of fuss.
Thanks so much for this lovely comment I really do appreciate that. Happy to hear that you have cleaned your machine. Another tip is leave the lid open after a wash that helps to keep the bowl dry and hopefully wont get moldy. Thanks for watching and take care 🙂👍
Appreciate you taking the time - I already do that and think it has made a huge difference. I have also started using a product called DampFree which has a hanger product to capture water in the air and I hang that alongside the machine to ensure the space is healthier.@@MannixGarage
thank you! I did this today after a week or two of my wife saying the washer smelled moldy. It wasn't as much cleaning as what yours required, but I used the pressure washer and it went smoothly. The primary issue I think was the nasty water at the bottom of the outer bowl/casing. I used a giant syringe to suck that up, scrubbed, and bleached it.
Thanks for the comment, glad you found the video useful glad to hear you cleaned your machine, the pressure washer definitely makes the job quicker 🙂. Another thing you can try to stop the musty/moldy smell is just leave the lid open after a wash that can help dry the bowl and close again later.
Thank you so much. I own a Fisher & Paykel washing machine that I bought, *SECOND HAND* back in *2009.* And your method for disassembly, cleaning and reassembly worked!
Hi there, glad to hear you found the video helpful, good job for getting your machine cleaned and hopefully not as dirty as mine. Thanks for watching 🙂
Perfect, great video. I've just stripped my Fisher & Paykel SmartDrive washing machine down, and now it's clean as a whistle. I reckon this video save me A$100+ :) :) :)
Yes they are pretty good for maintenance, someone can easily check pump for blockage, clean the bowl etc. However the main control boards could be an issue if there is a fault there. Definitely a good washing machine👍. Thanks for watching and take care 🙂
You can also remove the lid, makes the other parts of the job easier and you can clean the top deck properly. Older models will have an out-of-balance detection lever (would be visible at around 2:22) so be careful not to snap that off. Finally while you have the inner bowl out, undo the three screws in the bottom of it and remove the drive dog so you can clean the gunge that will be hiding in there.

Great video 👍 I have the same kind of machine. I think I bought it in 2004?? Still it’s working great. Now I have to find a sunny day to get this job done. I am expecting a lot of crap in it but no bad smell yet 😂
Hi there, no worries thanks for watching. Yes a few things you can do, firstly I always wash in cold water but you can do the odd hot wash, high water level once a month or so, that will help reduce the soap scum buildup as it may not dissolve as well in a cold wash. Use the correct amount of washing liquid or powder, don't over do it. Don't use fabric softeners they can cause a residue build up in the washing machine, or if you need to use it dilute it (best not to use it). Leave the lid open to let the air in to dry bowl after a wash. Cheers 🙂

Hi. My inner bowl will not come out. Comes up little but that’s all. It’s like it’s catching on something on the spindle but I can’t tell what. Any hints? It’s a f&p washsmartm
Hi there, have a look through some of the comments as there are some various solutions from using vinegar to using hot water and they seemed to help people with a stuck bowl. Hope that helps and thanks for watching 😊
Hi Eliza, thanks for the question. Is this water stuck in the bowl after a spin cycle? If so its possible that the pump has a slight blockage This step should give you an idea if pump is blocked, remove the top deck and inner bowl (as seen in my video). Bail out the water, remove the pump cap and hood (as seen in 5:00 in my video) and clear the pump of any obstructions, if there is a big build up of dirt and lint this could be the cause. Once you clear this area you can confirm if pump is pumping by putting say a bucket of water in the inner bowl and running a spin cycle. If it is still not pumping properly there could still be a blockage at the pump, you will need to remove the pump from the bottom of the machine to clear this, if you need to see how this is done here is a great video showing you to do that step ua-cam.com/video/8piQat8DQcI/v-deo.html Hope you get it sorted and thanks for the question
I have a very similar, if not the same, Fisher & Paykel. After following your instructions here to clean the inner bowl, it looks as though a lot blackish buildup has collected under the inner bowl below the area where the inner bowl drains. I'm wondering if I ought to soak it with some bleach or CLR. Any thoughts on that?
Have you taken the inner bowl physically out to clean, you should be able to clean the black buildup off once removed with a small brush. I guess you could use bleach for a short soak but keep in mind the bleach isn't good for stainless so don't leave soaking for too long. Take care and thanks for watching 🙂
I can’t seem to get the bowl out. I have detached the spring and the clips and taken the ring off but the bowl seems to be stuck underneath it. Any tips?
Hi there, its possible you might have a blockage around the pump, just check that there is nothing stuck there like a build up of lint. However if you are talking about water left in the bowl like in my video after I cleaned the inner bowl, that's ok, either scoop it out like I did or just run a rinse cycle after. Thanks 🙂
@@MannixGarage this is inside the internal bowl the outer bowl were the pump is clear 😅 so when you lift the internal drum out it’s sloshing around in that. It looks sealed all the way around and I cannot find any cracks or holes so not sure how it go inside there
Hi there, is that removing inner bowl you mean? If you have already removed the agitator successfully but its the inner bowl that's stuck, fill a bucket with hot tap water and poor over the middle part that the bowl mounts to (if you see what I mean). Then try pull the bowl from following step 6 of the video. Hope that helps, keep us posted. Thanks 🙂
Hi there, if you have followed all the steps in the video try pouring some hot tap water over the shaft area (not boiling water), you also may have to get someone else to help you to put pressure on the shaft (eg use a short length of timber placed on shaft) while you pull the inner bowl off. Hi there, thats a good question no there isn't unfortunately. You sometimes get a small amount of lint build up at the bottom of the inside of the agitator which i would pick out by hand. Thanks for watching take care 🙂
This will be a long shot but worth a try. Run through a low level hot wash cycle, just let it fill and pause the machine once at the low fill level. Check water level is above the retaining nut. Leave for say 20 mins, then go straight to the spin cycle to empty water. The heat from the hot water may heat soak through the retaining nut hopefully making it easier to undo.

@@megzzz7073 The dish brush has the nylon bristles and handle used for washing dishes, pots and pans etc, but excellent for cleaning too. Its the blue bush I use in the video when cleaning the outer bowl. Note this is an old brush not used for our dishes now 😀. Hi there, sorry for the late reply but some of the comments left with similar issue from people which you could try; “I poured a small amount of vinegar on top of the toothed shaft and then wrestled with it a few more times and it finally came loose.” “Undo the three screws holding the drive dog assembly if the inner bowl is stuck. You can then get all the crud out of this part too.” But I would try pouring some hot water from the tap over the shaft area that may loosen things up for you. I Hope that helps with getting it out, keep trying you will get there.
Hi there, there have been some other viewers with the same issue, if you look through the comments it seems to be that using vinegar will help free up the inner bowl. Give that a try and I hope that helps. Let us know how you get on if you like. Thanks 🙂
@@MannixGarage Hey! After 3 hours I managed to get it out. I had to use super hot water (not boiling) with vinegar mixed into it. And I had to step on the middle part while pulling the bowl super hard to get it out. Once I got it out enough where I couldn’t stand on the middle anymore I managed to wiggle it out. @@MannixGarage thank you. I have a bottle of jif but not sure what you mean by dish brush. Cheers. 🙃
@@megzzz7073 The dish brush has the nylon bristles and handle used for washing dishes, pots and pans etc, but excellent for cleaning too. Its the blue bush I use in the video when cleaning the outer bowl. Note this is an old brush not used for our dishes now 😀. When you clean your sink wet your brush every now and again makes cleaning with Jif easier.
@@MannixGarage thank you.
Help - the bowl will not come out.
Hi there, sorry for the late reply but some of the comments left with similar issue from people which you could try;
“I poured a small amount of vinegar on top of the toothed shaft and then wrestled with it a few more times and it finally came loose.”
“Undo the three screws holding the drive dog assembly if the inner bowl is stuck. You can then get all the crud out of this part too.”
But I would try pouring some hot water from the tap over the shaft area that may loosen things up for you. I Hope that helps with getting it out, keep trying you will get there.
@@MannixGarage - a genuine, thank you .
I finally was able to remove the inner bowl.
My inner bowl won’t come out :(
Hi there, there have been some other viewers with the same issue, if you look through the comments it seems to be that using vinegar will help free up the inner bowl.
Gave it a really good clean before putting it back. When I put it back in I tried to pull it out again to see if it would still be stuck but I had no issues 😊
@@MannixGarage also mine was literally 10times dirtier than this, thick sludge over every surface. The machine was second hand and had obviously never been cleaned lol so I’m happy I managed to get it super clean again 😊
@@nadiastone6422 That's so good to hear you got it out and cleaned. Yes nothing wrong with second hand stuff and they are good machines and at least you know how to clean it out so its as good as new well done. Thanks for replying too as it may help someone else with the same issue. Good result! Thanks for watching and appreciate the comments 🙂
