My teenage daughter told me just 10 days ago that her father had abused her regularly when she was about 5 till we split and she was 9 and then afterwards when he had visitation. It’s the worst thing any parent can ever find out. The pain, anger, guilt and disgust I feel is unimaginable. The police are dealing with it all now and I hope in a year or so he will be behind bars. I’m so proud of her for telling me… that’s the hardest part.

Believe your child and get an investigation started. You can’t repair the betrayal a child feels when you ignore, downplay and/or protect the predator. Support the victim not the creeper because doing the latter allows them to get more victims. In some cases the child is being blackmailed by another person to say it’s the parent and taking it seriously will help expose them as the child will feel safe to tell the truth.
