The’70’s were a lot more grittier though and imho the realism of this period is so much nicer than it was when I grew up in it. I definitely think this moment in time was a bit better than things going on at the present day with this administration trying to perpetuate us into another World War though; cuz we are headed for oblivion due to our allies becoming our enemies since Biden stole our election down by 43% and won virtually overnight in a swing state no less which’s famous for hating any Democratic Party. As no candidate in history has ever managed to do so whatsoever. Google:US.GOV and see what’s happening right underneath your very nose. This has been going on since the beginning of the late 1880’s til present day and is a matter of public record! Cheers nonetheless ❤ Quinn = Family! Wow!

I've always liked this movie because of my love for Patty Duke and William Shatner. I was just a baby when this movie was released. I feel so old! It's definitely a good rainy day psychological thriller. As a woman, I'd be a little concerned about an attractive young woman coming into my home and upstaging me in the areas of cooking, cleaning, etc. It's a recipe for disaster, especially if the marriage is already troubled. At very least, the wife should have checked her references! The girl is diabolical... Great film! Thank you for sharing.

I was 11 when this was released, now I’m 53 and DEFINITELY feel old, 42 years later! And yes, I agree about Joanna being a “recipe for disaster” when Liz and Jeff’s marriage has already been on the rocks and she has even managed to go without having any alcohol for a whole year now. But once Joanna steps into the picture-WHAMMO!-it’s all downhill for Liz; she regresses big time to alcoholism. We find her boozing away in the family room, listening to Mozart while Joanna has taken the ferry to engage in recreation and neglect her duties, and Liz coldly comes right out and tells Jeff:”I don’t want to go to bed, Jeff!” at his insistence, that they at least TRY to fix things and make up, for once and for all. Then the next morning, he comes right out and confronts her with “Oh, Joanna says it’s OK to treat yourself to a drink occasionally? Well, Joanna was NOT in Chicago when it was HALF A BOTTLE of Scotch A DAY!” “You know YOU CAN’T DRINK! It’s starting all over again-Scotch, gin, brandy, Irish ☘️ whisky, and I won’t hear of any of it! Again, YOU KNOW YOU CAN’T DRINK! You’re regressing all over again all of a sudden, and all because of Joanna!” as she just stares emptily yet coldly at her husband.

People have the right to post what they want. And anyway that babysitter is one odd looking chick! There's a lot of surface area between her neck and when her tits finally decide to make an appearance.

Stephanie Zimbalist was simply marvelous. She was quite stunning and dazzling, especially in that black night gown. I also remember her in Remington Steele, with Pierce Brosnan, during the mid eighties. The first time i saw Patti Duke, she played in the Valley of the dolls, with Sharon Tate, back in 1967. Unfortunately! she died so young, but she looked much older than her age. By the way, I grew up in the same district location, where Bill Shatner came from. Rest! in peace, Patti Duke: 1946-2016. P.S. The husband is ultimately the 1 to blame bc he kept on saying get a 🏠 keeper/nanny/maid. The wife did it & then he went hypocritical on her. Their marriage is their own fault bc neither wanted to try to fix it.

The film may be mediocre, but Stephanie Zimbalist acted creepy as Joanna & she is beautiful then & now. I love films from this era, having grown up in the '80s too.

I think the film was really good and the acting phenomenal! Love how STEPHANIE ZIMBALIST can look innocent but evil at the same time lol! Nowadays there is less acting and more special effects whereas back in time there was real talent....

    • @dixiedragon2641

I don't think people watched this for the acting which is a shame because Stephanie Zimbalist is really a very under rated actor - she's won dozens of awards for her work in plays - from acting to writing and directing and she's a natural crossover into film -- her roots in talent run long and deep from her talented opera soprano grandmother Alma Gluck to her Russian grandfather Efram Zimbalist Sr. an accomplished, celebrated violinist & composer, and an aunt who was a brilliant historian and writer - and OF COURSE all us boomers remember 77 Sunset Strip & The F.B.I. with Efram Zimbalist Jr. but he was also a gifted composer (Violin Sonata) and a Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway producer - sadly we lost him in May of last year at the age of 95 - I think she did a great job here of performing a sociopathic babysitter (although I think casting was way off on casting her at 24 as an 18 year old LOL). I, for one, will watch ANYTHING with the stoic, droll, Romanian born John Houseman. Despite winning just one Academy Award for the ONLY major film he was ever tapped for (The Paper Chase) he nevertheless has a rich acting and theater career (also a cofounder, with friend and colleague Orson Wells, of the famous Mercury Theater). John Houseman is a GREAT character actor repeatedly cast as a judge, doctor or professor LOL and what's not to love about William Shatner? Even people who hate his acting love him and it's always fun to see how he decides to play a role. It was even nice to see Quinn Cumming again, who abandoned the big screen to become a mother, inventor (hiphugger baby) and pretty funny and down-to-earth blogger QC Report. Now if you watched this for the story line - FORGET IT because it's very forgettable LOL. Just how many times can Hollywood, Lifetime and Hallmark throw a babysitter in the blender, bake it up and come out with anything but a big inedible mess? But I truly DID enjoy watching the acting in this movie

I've always liked Stephanie Zimbalist. She's beautiful in a rare, natural way and a decent actress. In fact she's the only decent actress in the entire film. Let's face it, the rest of the cast was simply awful.

Get this folks; John Houseman, He was from Romania. He played Dr. Lindquist in this movie; He also did commercials for Smith-Barney (the investment firm). He always ended with his punch-line; "Smith-Barney, they make money old-fashioned way, they EARRRRRNNED it!!) (RIP to John Houseman). In 1980, this was a low-budget film that earned a C+ rating back then. And yes, even after 49 years, I STILL LUUUUVE Anna Marie Patricia "Patty" Duke Pearce today!!

The movie has more depth than I thought. Its a very good indictment on the spirit of modern marriage, and the chase of money and jobs and houses, while neglecting the one you love the most, all in the name of "providing." Shatner and Duke had everything, including each other, and it was never enough. He was a workaholic who neglected his wife, she was an alcoholic who never appreciated her husband. The babysitter was, of course, their comeuppance overdue.

People these days are too busy in their careers, men or women, and both working full time jobs, while kids suffer from not getting attention from both of their parents and then they, the kids, end getting into trouble in school and at home or become alcoholics trying to deal with the pain of feeling unloved and ignored.
