So glad somebody slowed down to teach us newbies from start to finish. I was l watched your first one and this one and will watch the next one. I'll try this then try to venture further into epoxy tumblers. Thank you!!!!
I learned how much epoxy to start out with... How to apply it to tumbler... Uhhhh... I learned from the other video on prep, that I need to sand my tumbler better and to use 91% alcohol and pads to clean it further upon cleaning it. My sister gave me a crash course but, it's helpful cause you asked and answered questions I did have, and some that I didn't know to ask. Will watch it again later to take notes before I try it.
Thank you soooo much for being VERY specific and asking questions for the benefit of the audience! I just started making epoxy molds and been putting off spinning but now, I feel confident enough to proceed. Liked, downloaded, and subscribed!

Hi, thanks for sharing your knowledge. I am VERY new to tumblers. I wanted to ask can you use acrylic multi-surface paints on stainless tumbler in colors vs. buying the Rust-Oleum 2X in every color for base painting? TIA 🙂
You can! I found acrylic paint to flake more often and show the original color through more often than spray paint. But some folks use acrylic paint exclusively, so you certainly can!
Wow wish I would’ve watched this the first time I tried doing an epoxy tumbler. You skip the modge podge step and make the process so much easier! I’d love it if you had a video on wine bottle tumblers! Thanks!
I noticed the brand on the bottom part of the cup, which the cup I'm going to do has the same lol, will that show up once its glittered over it or do you kind of go over it with more glitter till you no longer see it? Thanks!#beginnerhere😁
Sand bumpy areas smooth. I'm not sure what you mean by the decal, but make sure you apply the vinyl smoothly and you shouldn't have additional issues with the decal.
No, you don’t worry about what gets inside the cup. You clean it out at the end of the process. The last video How to Finish A Tumbler shows you what to do.
How long between each step like after adding the glitter should you wait for it to dry and should it spin the whole time while drying ? About to start my first cup you guys make the steps so simple thank you !!
You're welcome! You got this! It will probably take 5-8 hours, but that depends on the epoxy brand you're using and the weather. Wait until the epoxy is no longer tacky before moving on to the next step. It needs to spin at least until it's tacky, so yes let it spin while curing.
What if the cups from Walmart have a color base on them already, do we still need to sand them down? Also, do we still need to spray paint over the original color?
If they are the powder coated ones I probably wouldn’t glitter over top of those. If they’re the plain stainless that’s colored, I would still prep it as normal unless your glitter matches the color, then don’t spray paint.
Hello if I want to do waterslide paper for example a penny wise cup where would this step go ? Without any glitter instead I would like to do blood splatter with paint ?
How much glitter should I start with? How many average cups does 2 oz and 4 oz. of glitter make. Love your videos I’m new to making them and want to get al my supplies to get started Thank You so much for the videos.
If you buy high quality glitter, you can buy less. If you’re buying it from a craft store, you may want to buy a little extra. It’s hard to answer that since it varies, but I would say I get 3-4 tumblers out of 2oz of polyester (high quality) glitter. I’m so glad they’ve been helpful! I’m putting out a list of all the supplies I use for epoxy later this week so stay tuned for that!
I made my first glitter tumbler and it turned out great! I started my second and I had trouble getting the epoxy to stick in some areas so it was very splotchy when I applied the glitter. I added a little more epoxy to those areas and re-glittered but I’m afraid it’s going to come out looking bumpy. Any suggestions for getting the initial coat of epoxy to stick better? (I followed your first tutorial for prepping a cup just like I did my first one. I was thinking I maybe got too much spray paint in some areas?)
Sometimes tumblers are coated unevenly in production and that can cause the epoxy to not want to stick in some areas. Also be mindful of the temperature in your work space this time of year. I would try to sand as thoroughly and evenly as possible during the prep stage to help in the future. ☺️
if you'd like to start over. put the tumbler in a container that has a lid and pour some acetone and wait a couple of hours and all the epoxy will come off and you can re-use it. remember gloves after the alcohol cleaning oils on your hands cause the stickiness.
Hi, I'm interested in starting this tumbler thing. For your materials, do we buy all the different epoxys or just choose one from what you listed? Thanks so much
You're welcome! You'll want to experiment with what you like and what works well with the weather where you live. I would start with Alumilite and then try them one at a time to see if you have better results with other brands.
2 questions do you seal the glitter with a spray at all after glitter and epoxy or does the epoxy hold the glitter down good. I noticed you didnt sand between glitter/epoxy layer and 2nd epoxy layer
I only seal the glitter when I do an ombre with more than one color. You can sand lightly all over between layers, but you don't have to if you don't have rough spots or bumps.
I bought my cup spinner off of Etsy. You can find epoxy directly from a company, or from Amazon that's not in a kit. Everything I used is linked in the description.
Great video!! Can't wait to see the next step. I have the first layer of epoxy and glitter on my cup, but have those wet spots where I had too much epoxy. Can I sand those down or something, or will they be covered with the next layer of epoxy and glitter?
Thanks Debbie! This is the only layer of glitter we usually do. I would epoxy your next layer and then see how it looks okay. You may also be as to put your decal over that spot and cover it up ☺️
@@DIYAlex Thank you Alex. I will do another thinner layer of epoxy and hope that covers it some. I am at least trying to do something new. LOL. Love your videos!!
Debbie Stayton Exactly! You got this!! Try to keep your layer thin, but sometimes when you epoxy over glitter, it kind of drinks up the epoxy, so you might want to make 15mL (7.5mL of each part).

Your tutorials have been very helpful and I'm getting ready to do my FIRST glitter epoxy tumbler. So thank you. Some tutorials show applying glitter with Mod Podge instead and then epoxying over it. Do you know why? I'm not planning on doing it that way but would like to know why.
I’m so glad they’ve been helpful! How exciting! Yes you can use Mod Podge to apply glitter as well. It’s just a different method for adhering the glitter. Both methods have pros and cons, but I found that I had to do at least two coats of glitter no matter what kind with Mod Podge. I also had lumps in my glitter after using it, so I’m not a fan. I encourage you to branch out and try different methods. Otherwise you’ll never know what your favorite is!
Great video Ladies. I am curious to how well ventilated is the room you all are in? This is my fear and the reason I have yet to start. I know temperature is the key to epoxy curing correctly but the ventilation is what I would really like to know more about. Thank you very much. ☺️
princessdisa1829 In the room we were in, we had a fan blowing and the window cracked. I also typically wear a mask when I’m not making videos. I recommend going to the epoxy’s website and looking at the product info and the material data sheet that has the chemical info so you can decide if you’re comfortable using it 😊.
Great tutorial! You answered so many of my questions. I think I'm ready to make my first glitter tumbler! Have you tried a pre-painted tumbler? Just curious how that might change the process?
I’m so glad the video was helpful! I haven’t tried a pre-painted tumbler, but the only step I would skip is spray painting. You would still want to sand and wash your tumbler.
Hi Anita! Yes you need a cup spinner to make cups. There are things out there like the hang method that don’t require a spinner, but I’ve never done it and that sounds way like way too much time in my opinion. You can find them on Etsy and Amazon.
DIY Alex thank you. Have to admit, you ladies have the best epoxy tutorial out there. Step by step n better yet took time to split in several videos. Thank you 😍 Will start getting all items needed when I brave myself to create my first tumbler, you ladies will be the first to see n judge 😁. Ty
Epoxy always comes with parts A and B that you need to mix together to create the chemical reaction that will allow it to cure. ☺️ All epoxy will come with both parts.
Why in the description below it has like 3 different apoxy? I only heard you saying you use a and b but there is others I didn’t hear about but you put it in the description for amazon
It depends on how thick your epoxy is. Thinner coats you can maybe get done in 5-6 hours, but thicker coats need a minimum of 8. Just do the knuckle test that we talk about a few times thought the series If you’re not sure
You measure them together and one is heavy than the other? Would that not give a wrong measurement? It a good idea to use the sharpie, so you can see it better.
theaffiliatemarketingfornewbies Padua No, it keeps your measurement perfectly even. They don’t sink into each other, so the mark just keeps rising in the medicine cup if that makes sense. The sharpie trick was new to me and I thought it was a great idea!
You can tape it off if you want, but I prefer to not worry about it in the beginning, and clean it out at the end. The last video in the series shows you how to clean it out.
You probably could! It seems like it would waste a lot of glitter, but it that works best for you then give it a try! There are several ways to do everything 😊
When I covered my tumbler in the first layer of epoxy before any glitter was applied, it sort of grouped/waved in some spots. Imagine how water looks going on your car after you’ve just gone through the car wash, it was that sort of effect! Do you know what may have caused that?
So I’d recommend prepping your cup as normal and paint it the desired color, add your decal, end then epoxy over top. But be careful because you can see every bubble or flaw in the epoxy with just paint.
Are you using fine or chunky glitter? What I’ve found with epoxy is there are two main reasons for fish eyes. The first is that chunky glitter sometimes “rejects” epoxy and creates a fish eye over top pieces of the glitter. The second reason is that the epoxy doesn’t have anything to stick to. So if you did a layer of fine glitter and then epoxy, and then epoxy over top that, the epoxy is just sliding around. You can fix this by doing a light sanding between coats of epoxy to give your cup some texture and something for your epoxy to adhere to.
One is the resin and the other is the hardner. Both parts stay in liquid form when they’re separate, but mixing them together causes the chemical reaction to allow the epoxy to cure into a hard state.
Please wear respirators when using epoxy! No matter how non toxic it claims to be. The non toxic part usually means the separate parts. Like part A is non toxic and part B is non toxic. That doesn't mean when they are mixed they are safe. (Sorry but I worry about everyone.... ALOT! I don't want to hear or read anyone is sick or hurt by this stuff! ❤)
How do you prevent fish eyes? I've made two tumblers both came out with fish eyes 😩. Also do I have to spray them with clear coat after I spray paint them white?
You can prevent fish eyes by prepping your tumbler, and making sure your room is 70-75 degrees. If you are getting lots of them then you may want to consider trying another epoxy brand. I have noticed that some brands have more than others. You can watch our prep video about how to prep a tumbler here: ua-cam.com/video/sPAfzB8rMbU/v-deo.html
You need to make sure you tell people to wear masks and the best kind along with the right gloves. If this is beginners those are the basics to even begin before you mix epoxy. Not everyone reads comments.
So glad somebody slowed down to teach us newbies from start to finish. I was l watched your first one and this one and will watch the next one. I'll try this then try to venture further into epoxy tumblers. Thank you!!!!

Hi Alex, this is a great tutorial. I am just starting to buy some supplies and I am curious as to approximately how much fine glitter you use per cup?

How long do you let it turn for before starting the next part?
Until it’s dry. The dry time varies.

As long as you want! There's no time limit.
How long can you let it sit in the bottles like that? For the year as well? Or do you pour it back into the regular containers that it came in after each use?
I keep it in the bottles until it’s time to refill. No need to switch containers ☺️

Can you cover the epoxy with say Press n Seal then heat it up and use it again for another cup??
No, once the parts are mixed together they’ll begin curing in 30 minutes or so.

Typically 5-8 hours. The time varies by brand and temperature, humidity, etc.

When I'm in a hurry I grab them from Walmart, but when I have time to order them I get them from thestainlessdepotcompany.com/
Do I need to use certain type of glitter brand?
I don't think that a certain brand is required, though high quality polyester glitter is better for tumblers.
Do you seal the glitter with another layer of epoxy after 24 hours once the initial layer of epoxy has dried?
You don’t need another coat of epoxy unless you’re adding a decal or something.

I've never done this, but could you maybe use a funnel with an angled tip to do the bottom and just pour it into the funnel? 🤷🏻♀️
Did you prep your tumbler prior to adding epoxy? It sounds like prepping the tumbler would probably fix that.
Can someone tell me where is episode #3? I can't find it.
Here you go! ua-cam.com/video/6CddwFStTuI/v-deo.html
You can find all the episodes easily by finding them in the playlist ☺️
FYI the shop in your cup turner link is closed down
Is there 3rd video to the set ?
Yes, the next one comes out this Friday at 8pm Eastern Time
Where did you say you get your glitter? I couldn't understand you.
Donna Armstrong the glitter we are using is from Glitter Buy Mamaboss ☺️. I also really like Sass and Crafts glitter too!
How do u do it without glitter
The process is pretty much the same. Do you want it to have a base of alcohol ink or anything?
With spray paint and all just no glitter
So I’d recommend prepping your cup as normal and paint it the desired color, add your decal, end then epoxy over top. But be careful because you can see every bubble or flaw in the epoxy with just paint.
I'm just learning but you say part A and part B. What are they?
They are the resin and the hardner. They are required to be mixed for the epoxy to harden.
How do you do the rim on top of tumbler. I haven’t seen anyone actually address how much of inner rim do you glitter. Thanks 😊
Don't focus too much on how much glitter to put on the top rim. You may end up scraping some of it off with an exacto knife anyway.
What is the Part A and Part B
They are the resin and the hardener. You have to mix both parts together in equal amounts to get the epoxy to cure correctly.
All of a sudden I get fish eyes....I do a thin layer...do u know why?
Are you using fine or chunky glitter?
What I’ve found with epoxy is there are two main reasons for fish eyes. The first is that chunky glitter sometimes “rejects” epoxy and creates a fish eye over top pieces of the glitter. The second reason is that the epoxy doesn’t have anything to stick to. So if you did a layer of fine glitter and then epoxy, and then epoxy over top that, the epoxy is just sliding around. You can fix this by doing a light sanding between coats of epoxy to give your cup some texture and something for your epoxy to adhere to.
Why can u put the glitter in the epoxy then put on tumbler
It won't coat evenly if you do it that way.
I can’t find episode 3. Is there something I’m missing? 🥴
This playlist has them all in order. The episode number is at the end of the title: ua-cam.com/play/PLdqAY6wTCkWCeMGXrRhEhYsorONi7RDQc.html
My epoxy isn’t drying in two spots what do I do? @diyalex
If the epoxy isn't fully cured either wait longer, or it might not have been mixed evenly in the 1:1 ratio.
Nice but where’s the finished product?
It's a 5 video series. The episode numbers are at the end of the title.
What is part A and part B?
There are always two parts of epoxy. It doesn’t matter which is which on most brands because you mix them in an equal 1:1 ratio.
@@DIYAlex I mean what is in each bottle is it all epoxy or two different brands of it?
It’s the same brand. You always want to use Part A and Part B of the same brand ☺️
Iam confused what the part a and part b is exactly
One is the resin and the other is the hardner. Both parts stay in liquid form when they’re separate, but mixing them together causes the chemical reaction to allow the epoxy to cure into a hard state.
You say in the video you use 10ml for a 20 oz cup, do you have like a guide for different size cups how much to use with each?
Not exactly, but typically you can estimate that you need about 1mL per oz of the tumbler. You'll want to use more for the flood coat.
Also do you have to spray the glitter with a clear coat or sand it when you're done glittering?
You can prevent fish eyes by prepping your tumbler, and making sure your room is 70-75 degrees. If you are getting lots of them then you may want to consider trying another epoxy brand. I have noticed that some brands have more than others.
You can watch our prep video about how to prep a tumbler here: ua-cam.com/video/sPAfzB8rMbU/v-deo.html
You can seal the glitter with a clear coat if you want, but you don't have to. Never sand directly on glitter.
You need to make sure you tell people to wear masks and the best kind along with the right gloves. If this is beginners those are the basics to even begin before you mix epoxy. Not everyone reads comments.
I do explain it in several parts of the series, but it is also up to everyone to do their own research and wear what they are comfortable with.
Just curious why you change your voice towards the end of your videos
Rebecca My voice just does that sometimes 😂🤷🏼♀️
Gotcha 👍🏻...keep up the good work...enjoy the videos...God Bless!
Extremely high-tech cardboard 😂
If it works, it works! haha

What spinner do you use
Mine is from Etsy and it’s no longer made by that shop. There are tons of great options on Etsy and Amazon.
