  • I heard water sloshing around in the rear driver's side door and realized that the factory weatherstripping at the bottom of the door prevents the rain water from draining out at all.

    UPDATE (11/23/2021): So I just got back from my local Toyota dealership with the "fix". Apparently there's a TSB (Toyota Services Bulletin) out for this: T-SB-0084-21. When I got home, I Googled it and one of the first links that I got was this Rav4World posting which actually references my video here. Link: www.rav4world.com/threads/t-sb-0084-21-sloshing-or-splashing-noise-from-inside-one-or-more-door-panels.316934/#post-2905118 So, none of you are alone. If you have this problem, reference the TSB at your dealership. Now, it'll remain to be seen if this actually works, only time will tell.
    Also note, if you are up on Rav4 Hybrid issues, I also got the new gas tank (Customer Support Program 20TE04) and fuel pump (Special Service Campaign 21TC03) to address those issues during this entire campaign. It'll also take some time to determine if those fixes worked, but these fixes digress from this original topic here of the door's & water accumulation.

      Ok so how much can you fill your tank now after the gas tank repair?

    • @bingbucks
      @bingbucks  8 місяців тому +1

      @@edmund634 The gas tank repair did not work as expected. Though, the very first fill-up after the "fix", surprisingly, did yield so much fuel (the gas pump was registering over 14 gallons dispensed) that I was convinced the fuel was spilling out somewhere so I stopped pumping gas before the auto-stop mechanism shut down the pump (FYI, there was no fuel spill anywhere). I think I stopped at 14.3 gallons because if the tank really had a 14.5 gallon capacity then I was quickly approaching it - and I, obviously, had enough fuel to actually get to the gas station. I gave up trying to argue with Toyota - perhaps when I have free time I'll fight the battle again. Every fill-up since then has yielded about 9.5 to 10 gallons, as usual (the same behavior prior to the "fix"). I am just used to the DTE gauge reading "0" and then carefully watching that I can probably go another 100 miles (DTE = -100, though it does not countdown) without a problem. You got the same gas tank issue?

    If you read the Toyota owner book it tells you to clean the drain at least twice,a year. I do mine 4 times as I live in a wet country and drive on muddy roads.
    Also your dealer may not have done the PDI properly and check the wax was removed.
    I live in a wet country it rain 355 day a year well not far off. So I am use to checking my drain hole make sure you check the tail gate (lift back) as well if you have a sunroof check the drains.
    Lots of dealer do not remove the transport was properly. When this happens door will will especially if the wax glue the rubber door seal.
    It's part of the cars cleaning and owner maintains to check these drains. Car doors are not water tight so water easily gets in

    i have been looking for things like this which accumulates water that might cause it. i still did not figure it out...

    • @bingbucks
      @bingbucks  20 днів тому

      I do not have any musty/moldy smells in the cabin. This issue was strictly in the doors only and never infiltrated the cabin.
      But your question triggered a memory - there was a Toyota notification about the possibility of the roof rack attachment points on the top of the Rav4 possibly leaking - perhaps down the pillars of the car or into the headliner. I can't find my paper notification right now, but a quick Google search leads me to Toyota Services Bulletin T-SB-0016-23 and CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM (CSP) 22TE05.
      Seems to be a discussion here: www.rav4world.com/threads/2019-2021-roof-rail-leak-official-acknowledgement-from-toyota-usa.327236/
      Hopefully this is your issue and you can get Toyota to fix it for free, if so.

    If anyone in Toyota management in Japan is reading this. Please know that the quality of canadian built RAV4s is just terrible. The sun visors in my 2022 xle are so stiff and squeaky that you need two hands to move them to the desired position. Right rear passenger door needs to be slammed shut every single time, otherwise it remains open. Same door gets filled up with water whenever it rains. In addition the car rattles like it has some loose parts.😠

      Two clues. I noticed a small puddle near that door days after a rain storm, and then I heard the sloshing when I opened the door. See the TSB link that I referred to above, a local dealership should fix if you print out that TSB and show them.

    • @bingbucks
      @bingbucks  3 роки тому

      I have not yet. I'm still gathering data - waiting for heavy rainfalls, running thru carwashes, etc. From what I've investigated so far, there is a rather "aggressive" piece of rubber trim (the one that I peel up in the video) which has 3 curved lips on it. The 1st curved lip is the one that you see me peel back in the video to allow the water to drain, the 2nd curved lip curves around to "seal" against the decorative plastic trim/body panel that wrapped under the sheetmetal of the door. The 3rd lip is curved in the other direction towards the door sill. The combination of all these flaps/lips of rubber can create a pretty tight seal against the door when it's shut, thereby never allowing any water to drain easily - ever. Now it's debatable as to how much water should ever even enter the door at all, I'm not sure what an acceptable amount is or should be - after all the doors do contain electronics that probably don't like water. The other flaw that I see is that decorative piece of plastic trim that is the body panel that wraps under the door sheetmetal, this can easily get dammed up with debris and hold moisture and cause premature rust. The other worry also is in the winter. Water expands when it freezes, hence what if water gets trapped and then starts to freeze. I have pictures of the rubber trim (with the 3 lips) - I'll post them eventually. In reality there is an interior rubber seal that goes around the entire door more on the interior, I'm not sure what this 3-lip rubber piece is even for (noise deadening?) - it would be tempting for someone to just remove them from all the doors to allow them to drain when water collects at the bottom of the doors.

    I spent just under $1,300 for the "Extended Warranty" when I bought my used 2020 Toyota Corolla LE from CARMAX about a year ago. Guess what. This "water in the door" problem is not f*cking covered. Criminals! No seal/weatherstripping/molding is covered by the supposed bumper-to-bumper warranty. Don't get a warranty from CARMAX if you buy a car there. You'll be throwing your money in the garbage if you do. When I realized my car door was basically a traveling rain barrel, I took the plug out, drained the water, and found out I'm on my own when it comes to getting this ridiculous problem fixed. I fear Toyota's quality is slipping. I don't know if I'll ever buy another car from CARMAX again. In the meantime, I'm keeping the plastic plug out so water can drain from the door's bottom as soon as it enters the top of the door. WTF! If it's not one thing, it's another.
