2019 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid door traps rain water - Part 2

  • See "Part 1" video also ( • 2019 Toyota Rav4 Hybri... ). I heard water sloshing around in the rear driver's side door and realized that the factory weatherstripping at the bottom of the door prevents the rain water from draining out at all.
You can see from this video how the rubber trim has 3 lips, the inner-most one (closest to the door) effectively seals the drain holes, guaranteeing that water will never drain.
Also notice the plastic body trim/molding wraps under the door providing another capture/trap point for debris/moisture to accelerate rust.

UPDATE (11/23/2021): So I just got back from my local Toyota dealership with the "fix". Apparently there's a TSB (Toyota Services Bulletin) out for this: T-SB-0084-21. When I got home, I Googled it and one of the first links that I got was this Rav4World posting which actually references my video here. Link: www.rav4world.com/threads/t-sb-0084-21-sloshing-or-splashing-noise-from-inside-one-or-more-door-panels.316934/#post-2905118 So, none of you are alone. If you have this problem, reference the TSB at your dealership. Now, it'll remain to be seen if this actually works, only time will tell.
Also note, if you are up on Rav4 Hybrid issues, I also got the new gas tank (Customer Support Program 20TE04) and fuel pump (Special Service Campaign 21TC03) to address those issues during this entire campaign. It'll also take some time to determine if those fixes worked, but these fixes digress from this original topic here of the door's & water accumulation.

1:00 I bought a used RAV4 that the previous owner had taken off-roading in a muddy/watery environment. The vehicle had been pressure washed on the outside but not underneath and not cleaned properly at this location you are pointing out. All four doors the space between the bottom trim and the drain holes were caked with a layer of mud impeding drainage completely. Took almost an hour with my house to wash out all the gunk from all 4 doors by running the hose side to side.

I've got the same problem with my 2019 Rav4 XLE. If it rains during the night, the next morning, my door is full of water. I have to open the door and push the door seal across the bottom of the door down and leave the door open while gallons of water drain out. I've read and heard others have the same problem, so this appears to be a poor design by Toyota.

Can't be good for all the electronics in the door, Water should not be going in side the door first place . Bad design. 👎

Yes. See my pinned post below. Tell your Toyota dealer that there is a TSB (Toyota Services Bulletin) out for this: T-SB-0084-21. I did not pay for anything and my dealer fixed it - years ago. Good luck!

Geezus if you didn’t put RAV4 in the title nobody would have watched this at all. There’s no context for your issue. The car is almost 4 years old(depending on the month and year you bought it) and we don’t know what the vehicle was subjected to. Monsoons? Hurricanes? High pressure washing? Was the car rolling through 4 feet of water at some point? Do you remember damaging anything or running over big debris. This is just a Problem with YOUR car

This is a widespread issue. It’s not just one RAV4. It’s a poor design. I have this issue with my 19 RAV4 LE. I don’t really care too much about it though. When the water starts sloshing I just pull back the trim and let the water drain out. I spray oil in the bottom of the doors to keep rust away.

I have the same problem on my wife's 2020 hybrid. Poor design and Toyota says out of warranty, not our issue. Will never buy another Toyota again. Their quality has gone down considerably
