- Fable 4 looks to be a couple years away but nevertheless we have some fable news to talk about today. A healthy mix of both would actually be my preference. These days, character customization is a lot higher on the game design priority list (one of the few updated business models I actually approve of), so a combination of both armor and clothing, each with their own pro's and cons, would be the best way to go. But this is just me. Personally, I'd prefer a Fable game which took place in the Old Kingdom, but again, that's just me.

I have a feeling off looking at her Twitter she is the quirky art girl. Kinda concerns me with how she’ll develop the story and try to match the charm and humor fable is known for.

I never thought the day would actually come, honestly thought that the Fable series died with the last. So stoked!
Fable was my number one favourite game series growing up, I’ve just started to play them again from the start and the fact that fable 4 is coming out makes me so happy and nostalgic!
A lot of Americans love Monty Python and other British comedy my guy. My favorite shows when I was a kid were Monty Pythons Flying Circus and The Young Ones.
I'm american and love british humor, my step dad got me into watching british comedy.

I don’t understand why Fable 3 ignored concerns and added mechanics no one asked for.
Honestly i think they are going to take fable in a much different direction than past titles. Im hoping they keep a lot of the mechanics that made it great and build upon them.
The thing I love about the Fable franchise is the British feel to the comedy elements, and how it is more subtle and less Vulgar. A game I can stand to play without gruesome vulgar death as the complete focus.

I just want the game to feel like fable, fable 2 is one of my favorite games of all time a game I will literally make excuses to have a reason to play and if this new game can capture that magic again I will be happy
Fable 1 I have prolly beat it 50+ times in my top 3 games I’m stoked for this
if we do end up dealing with Jack of Blades, that would actually be a LONG time before Fable 1
Gotta remember that William Black/Archon killed off the Court (save for Jack of course) at the very least centuries ago, and founded the Old Kingdom shortly thereafter. If we go back to meeting Jack, and its the long long long ago version, that would be before human civilization even gained a real foothold in the world; as they were the slaves of the Court until Black used the Sword of Aeons to deal with them.
regarding time travel, im currently...mixed on it. I feel like its something that can either make the game truly fantastic, or drag it down severely. Hopefully the folks behind the game do it right
and please do something about magic. lol. Its kinda sad that Fable 1's magic is superior to both 2's and 3's.
This is something ppl always downplay about fable sequels is the magic goes from a flexible fun part of the combat triangle to some slow low impact mechanism

Fable 2 is my favorite of the series. I hope this game adopts the combat system of 2 (though I’m sure most players would strongly disagree with me on this)
Same here! Sure, it wasn't perfect... But it was the first colorful RPG game that I got completely lost in. The music was also incredible. Nothing met the feeling of playing with my dog by bower lake for the first time.
Now I’m fairly sure most of players would totally agree ! As far as I am concerned, I would love a game design and a gameplay like the one on Fable II my absolute favorite of them all...So I think most of players love Fable II (maybe I wrong) but I actually think almost everyone is gonna agree with you.
I really enjoyed playing fable 2 i was like 12 when i played It , but really the combat is so boring because It is way too easy , like you literally cant die in that game so whats the point of even leveling up. Like i dont mind If they make the game that way again If they at least add a hard mode.

As for the story, they could've gone back to the Old Kingdom. Play as a young to older William Black displaying how incredibly powerful he becomes. Have him fight the Court with it cultivating in him having an epic final battle with Jack of Blades and obviously being triumphant. Give William Black a lot of spells, different weapon techniques, and make the shooting sharp. Explore different cities and villages in a medieval setting, and give us a ton of enemies to fight including Balverines, Fairies, Trolls, Bandits, Undead etc.

@@quonton3928 yeah I'm with this guy, if it came out this year, expect the framerate and glitches to be worse than Cyberpunk 2077. If the devs need a few years to get this game rolling, and refine and perfect it, I would still be happy.

I wouldn't mind guns but no more than like a single shot flintlock at the end game. Don't make it a straight upgrade from bows and cross bows but more of a side grade trading speed for one shot of massive damage have it be a unique like a piece of old kingdom technology.
Ohhh that’s actually a good idea. Like maybe it could be a legendary weapon you find behind a demon door or something.
@@RockyPunk yeah something akin to Magitech pistols from Final fantasy. I wouldn't want the fable 2 rapid reload and fire guns but something like the legendary Blunderbuss you get from Giles. Big damage but then effectively worthless cause it takes so long to reload. Be great for a pure strength build.
Old Kingdom Fable. Origins & Lore Galore. That's what I'm hoping for. So William Black, Archon, Nostros, The founding of Shadow Court, The birth of Heroes Guild, The Origins of Balverines, Hobbes, Nymphs, The how Darkness, Jack of Blades & Corrupter & all came to be in their beginnings, Scythe before he became an Egyptian Mummy, Lady Elvira Grey's witchcraft ancestry coming into fruition with her Forebearer Magdellena Grey, and Reaver! Reaver's betrayal of Oakvale! Maybe not in the next FABLE but the 2nd following instalment. All of this is eagerly anticipated with great hopes & expectations of Playground studios taking up the Fable Mantle.

When a dev says "I wasn't sure the game was right for me" you can tell they're going to strip a game of everything THEY didn't like regardless of if it was a contributor to its success.

Gotta be honest, I'm worried fam. She went out of her way to address the humor, which is something that made it stand out from the rest and made us all fall in love with it to begin with.
What would fable be without love potion 9.042, eating crunchy chicks (it's their bones that make them crunchy) and getting STD's?
If she's just writing the main story, things will be ok. However, if she's in charge of having the final say of what goes into the final Fable 4, we are doomed.

She was just worried about a game that would have been only about this, she was just misinterpreted. They'll be fart jokes, and we all agree this is great.
Too much shit like forcing expressions and making it hard to actually interact with npcs made fable 3 a boring game so if it's in reference to that I fully agree, but being champion of the arena while a croud shout WHOO ARSEFACE are the moments what make a game

As the "Lead writer" her role is actually to just guide the story and what connects the events from a to b, she does have the power to reject ideas and pitches but if it causes the game to lose its integrity or its spirit than most people who play test will respond with that, from there its upto Playground to do with as they want. My only concern is that The humour if the game (A game that has given a level of inclusivity since the first I think) what with characters being openly homosexual, bisexual and straight it's fine, the writing was to make a joke about britain and Ireland. That comment on fart jokes is a little red flag because the juvenile post box humour is a very british thing and gave the game a character that resonated. Personally I dont care as long as she does a good job but I think for a game so focused on British stereotypes and jokes you should probably hire a lead writer from the country, because now if it offends someone or it's too dry and boring then shes under the bus for being either "racism", "Cultural appropriation" or being too "woke" it would be like me making a game based on american stereotypes despite not being american, most likely people would be exceedingly offended. Just want the game to be a worthy sequel and a fresh start to the legacy of the series that I loved so much as a child.

She wrote Death of the Outsider which is the “third” Dishonored but she’s also working with the writers from the Arkham series

We, catalans, have a sense of humor very similar to the british, in fact is very influenced by the british sense of humor. I really think this game could be very popular in my land.
Jack of blades did technically live after the first one his soul resides in his mask if you don't throw it in the fire you become him.
It's more like a copy or imprint because he is a fourth dimensional being and cannot truly be killed so it is more likely that once he "dies" his soul returns to the void
I hope the original Fable development crew is involved somehow maybe behind the scenes to keep Fable's "feel." It's gotta have some fart jokes and chicken kicking cuz we love the corny-ness in Fable. I think 2022 is too early and we won't see it for years from now..I hope I'm wrong. I have such high hopes for this game man. Fable is part of my childhood and one of my favorite games still to this day. They could make this a prequel to the 1st Fable. I hope the Heroes Guild returns! We could be a Hero along side Jack of Blades before his infamy or we become the Guildmaster as the game progresses how cool would that be to train, customize heroes or if you're evil it becomes an assassin's sanctuary like the dark brotherhood. What about the hero Scythe? He was cloaked in mystery in Fable 1 maybe we start out as him or her. The time travel aspect can set the franchise up to be never ending I get that but if it's not done right there will be many plot holes. The old kingdom era can be explored - I loved Fable even more without guns. It felt so right & I think the franchise went downhill cuz of the massive time jumps in the story. I just want nothing but success for this game. There's so much they can do with this beloved game. Theresa should return she's been with us in every game & I still see her as my little sister. Please do not fuck this up Playground Games. 🙏🏻 Fable, Avowed & The Elder Scrolls 6 are the main games I look forward to.

his final words were in the evil ending "I told you *HERO* that I will always be back! implying that he returns to the void when defeated. maybe we also may get a darkness corrupted jack since thats where the darkness was taken and gotten rid of. and if they gave our character as the decendent of the king/queen of albion from fable 3(who was a member of the same bloodline the hero from fable chapters and fable 2 are from) may have a final battle between jack and the hero who bested hims' descendents. trials of the great great(or so) grandfather passed down to grandson/daughter
I thought it would be in some place between fable 1 and fable 2, destroying Albion seems very risky, the land we all love and it’s core to the franchise...

The new writers comment worried me, and the fact she’s American? Mmm, very sceptical. If the tone isn’t right, it’ll turn A LOT of people off to this game. As another commenter said though, if she does mess it up, it could mean her career.

Talking about how you wanted the original writers to come back reminds me of the Halo community wanting the original team to come back. We always cry for Marty to do the music etc. Never happening but a miracle happened and Jason the Halo creator is back writing Infinite so I'm really happy for that. I hope the Fable community gets their Jason return like we did. Also when you talked about the reboot I think back to how they talk about Halo Infinite "spiritual reboot" and how you don't need to play the old games to know the story, it's a new starting point. I'm hyped for both Halo and Fable. Xbox really doing great this next generation already.
Jack of Blades, I feel, should return as a Demon Door weapon. One that talks or has a hidden quest that activats when the player does something particular with it
Instead of getting weapons or something like that from a demon door, imagine going through one and end up in the dark void, and what u saw at the end of it is Jack of blade mask. As you reaching out toward its, the game ends....

I have so many thoughts on setting.... in the end I'll just have to accept it
I do not mind the release, I just hope that a lot of things will return, Fable 1 was a masterpiece... so I really hope they will use quite some assets from it like the health bar and mana bar, when I played Fable 2 and Fable 3, first of all I noticed no bars, neither health or mana. Now this all news, about story, return to Fable 1 story and expanding it, the return of Jack and Theresa, well, now thats something. As a fan of mosty Fable 1, Im really excited. Hope they will bring back at least some spells of Fable 1, the bars and dog companion :D
Pretty sure there was a book that confirmed Jack of Blades was still around in Fable 2 times
If the Jack of Blades return rumor is true, then my guess is that the game will be set in the period before Fable 1, and your main character will be the reason Jack disappeared before Fable 1.

I think is important to considare that there is already a Narrative Director. So i think is unreasonable to think she will affect all the story by herself.

Let’s do the Jack of Blades backstory because that went over REAL well when George Lucas gave us Darth Vader’s backstory. “I hate sand” enough said.
From what i've heard from Dene Carter on twitter and other places, it seems like the decision to not hire any previous devs (Or at least, not any key creative decision makers) from Lionhead is an intentional decision. Seems like microsoft is looking to do a soft reboot of the franchise and wants to make it a new separate vision from the previous games. Dene himself said that he's not interested in working in AAA anymore and nobody from playground has spoken to him.
Like any other fable fans i'm very keen to have a new entry to the franchise but i think its fair to be concerned until we get more concrete info
Hopefully there's actually a final boss battle.
What if Jack a blades was actually not destroyed but set in a weakened state where he couldn't come back for quite a while and had to have a way back like the way he originally had was blocked off and now he had to find a new way or have someone reopen the doorway?
If you wanna imagine what the overworld of the new fable look like, just watch the open- world aspect of forza horizon 4 (minus streets and buildings part). See that beautiful open garden area X on FH4's map?. Now imagine JUST doing a kicking chicken mini-quest at that small area. Beautiful isn't it?. And that's xboxone graphic. Now imagine the same quest again but in xbox series x graphic.
Fable 2 is my favorite, so I hope it leans more towards that. I just want it to be good tbh.

So, I hate to nit pick, but you got one major thing wrong. Jack is still alive. There's an ebook only short story that takes place after the events of fable Lost chapters that reveals in the end he is. People debate if it's cannon it not, but it keeps the door open that he could come back.

When do you think we will see more on fable ?
Depends on the planned release date. If the goal is 2022, they’ll show gameplay this year around June or just before as that’s typically when E3 is scheduled. If the plan is 2023+ then we won’t see gameplay for a while. I’m not an expert but this seems the most likely.

I'm sure that other members of the team could advise and assist the lead writer as far as the traditional British humor and tone of the game and the story. I like the idea of the town building versus buying everything. One hope is for some kind of character creator and customization options. Also for jobs that are more elaborate in the doing, and lucrative, but that get easier to do the more experience and skill you get.
The only thing I am on the fence about is the potential return of Jack of Blades. While I do agree that maybe they could do something interesting with him, it would take a lot of digging and tinkering to come up with that. We've seen Jack multiple times already. He feels to me like a Fable version of Darth Vader getting kicked out of the Jedi Order or of a dark knight getting banished from Camelot. Part of me really hopes the antagonist is somebody that's new this time.

I hope they cut the MP. It is pritty bad in single player oriented games, where the PC choice matters and having to share that choice with others is not fun. It is immersion breaking also.

I am not expecting anything I loved from Fable 1 (anniversary) to be implemented into the new game. After cyberpunk, I am only expecting the OPPOSITE of what I want in the game. People shouldnt get their hopes up for old things. New studio, new writer, means lots of changes. Don't expect a lot guys, please. Just give feedback, be loud about what the Fable fans want, but not disrespectful.
Sounds like good news but I hope they will do something good with it. Fable's quality imo was it's charm, it had like almost no depth, but it was carried by it's charm. I hope it will not try to be something that it wasnt and become more like any other game by trying to compete on aspects that make it not Fable
