I've been an LDS leader my whole life. Deacons quorum president, teachers quorum president, 1st priest to the Bishop, Eagle Scout, Trainer, District Leader, Zone Leader, Assistant to the President on my mission, Young Men's President, and Elders Quorum Secretary now in my ward. I have never understood the complete picture you, Mike, and others are painting on this series. Mike, I'm very grateful for your deep knowledge. John, I'm grateful for your platform and ability to direct quality discussion. I appreciate the truths, facts, and greater light and knowledge this series has brought.

I can see Joshua Thompson’s point. If Good took away the gold plates and the spectacles after 116 pages had lost, God could also take away Joseph Smiths’ power to see things using his seer stone then. Mike, what do you think?

      Joseph Smith was a conman.
The fact that he wouldn't retranslate the 116 pages because he was afraid of being caught out is pertinent to all discussions about Mormon BS.

The fact that the plates were taken away after Smith finished the “translation” and that they could be taken away pretty much whenever makes me wonder why the plates needed to be buried and hidden for Smith to “find them”? why couldn’t they just be given to him hand to hand from the beginning?

Oooh! Oooh! I know what happened to those 116 pages! They were eaten...by the same dog that ate all of my homework when I was in high school. It was an old dog and had a collar that said "born in 1824" on it and a little note contained in a locket that said "this dog belongs to Martin Harris". The dog burped a lot. When it burped, the burps smelled like old books, like the smell of an old-book collection. The last time I saw that dog was just before my last final exam in high school.

This is my favorite new series. For newly questioning members it’s important to find a source that carefully and precisely covers all the issues in order. Other videos or podcasts that cover problems with Mormon history and truth claims are too sporadic and hard to find in a comprehensive listen. Like getting the puzzle pieces but never the whole puzzle. Please keep doing these episodes so that one day I can send people to your play list and they can listen, one by one, in order to see the big picture.
John’s “slow” re-telling is also helpful. Although as others have stated, I really like Gerardo’s insight and comments. Overall, love that the episodes stay factual not emotional and are to the point with linear in logic and history. That’s what people need.

No worries,... but they are discussing a subject with a 2022 Christian Man's mindset and Opinions about some data but not all the data available for the whole picture, ... just a picture. There's 50 years of new data that is not hidden but you must seek it not wait it to be packaged for you. God will know who seeks him. Who Wants to know him. 1st they assume from the start and never speak about Joseph Smith in an honest way. They never listen to what Joseph said he did, just what people said about him 100 years after he died and then those Opinions become facts 200 years after he died. The truth is in 1830's.

I am LOVING these interviews. I wish they would let him be a speaker at General Conference in October. Let him be the first speaker on Saturday morning and then have Bro. John Dehlin be the last speaker before Pres. Nelson on Sun. afternoon, we would get to listen to the response from the LDS leaders. That would be a great 2 day session of conference.

I think two cohosts for this is just right because more cohosts tends to cause things to take too many tangents. I love how John summarized the things mike was saying and then mike would respond and clarify. It was extraordinarily helpful in understanding because I was really trying to wrap my brain around the information and keep track of it all.
I could probably get on board with one more cohost if you wanted to have 3 people, because I think Gerardo has a lot of information to add, but I think keeping it tight and really following the material you have to present is best.
This one was taxing on my brain so it’s hard to say if more time would’ve been better. I will say that I think this amount of time worked for me.
Typically I like the longer deep dives. The beauty of this one is that I think it’s a length that I can sent to some of my family members and they would feel like they have time to listen to this one.
As always, thanks for everything. You are doing important work!

The slideshow is very well put together. I like the amount of energy and research that has gone into the presentations. As you make more, it might help the flow if you add slides where you can pause and discuss. It feels like John tries to discuss, but there's always a slide "coming up next" so the flow is a little difficult to keep up. but maybe if you divided it into sections, Mike can blaze through a couple slides without interruption and then pause and have a discussion slide where John can rephrase it and put it into context and ask questions. John's strength is making sure we listeners can "see" the slides in our minds' eye just like the witnesses to the Book of Mormon. I think there can be a way to use the slideshow to support the discussion rather than try to interject a discussion into a slideshow. Love the work you are doing! I have listened to all of them on 2x speed. :)

Excellent. For the format, I think thev way you did it today is perfect. It's like John Larsen and Mormon Expression... His best episodes were those near the end of his podcast when it was just him dishing out information. He covered lots of ground and was entertaining too. Keep this format..

Mike and John, thank you for this well thought out presentation! I found it very interesting. I am going back and scanning the Book of Mormon to notice the things you talked about. I’m only up to first Nephi chapter 9, and there are already two whole chapters of Joseph Smith (AKA Nephi) explaining why the account differs from the other one! Never noticed it before!

  • @michaelkeith5398
    @michaelkeith5398 2 роки тому +6

I remember reading rough stone rolling and there's a little blurb in there that mentions that Nephi was translated at the end, not the beginning, and then I (still a believer) started to have some cognitive dissonance and I didn't know why. I think, having been really deep into mormon history for a while, I was starting to put together some of these pieces subconsciously. So listening to this episode was like scratching an old itch. And it was soooo good!!

Mike, this content is absolutely fantastic! For people like myself, I think emotional reactions are great in other types of interviews (the long form stories of people's lives), but I don't know that we need emotional reactions to this series. I'm not sure how people are finding this content dry. If you were to have a co-host I think it would be preferred to have a subject matter expert.

I appreciate the detail, makes it better for me to understand. I’m very far removed from being “in”, so my knowledge is rusty. If it’s too long I just break it up & listen the next day. But I can totally see why a shorter version would be better for some listeners.
I enjoy cohosts, they provide perspectives different from mine.
