Raxx I am very glad you are involved with this! Thanks for all your hard work man, it really helps casuals like myself. I'm actually pretty stoked about S4 too!
your knowledge of the game and the depths you dive to make all of us have a better player experience really astounds me. and this applies not only to D4 but to all the games you cover. GG
These patch notes makes me happy. I'm super happy that you can zoom out more with the camera as well. Can't wait to run around with my minions as a necro!
Dude, biggest problem with minions is that they feel like WD from D3 - no way to actually control them makes it just painfully bland and unenjoyable play style. It will feel good as long as they are overtunned or we are doing easier content. Do not play minions unless you are only doing to test how bad it feels
The same if they dont do what every other arpg has done. Go to LE, POE, GD and you can press a button to literally move your minions wherever (follow cursor or attack)@Zikkar
Pretty excited to get back to it. I haven't hit it hard since S1 and even then I didn't BLAST, just played enough to finish the battlepass, and that barely took anything. Really hope the changes feel good (they seem really solid) and that the season 4 theme and mechanics only serve to enhance that.
Yea in the same boat. Redownloading it now I haven't played since season 1 either. I just now realized when downloading I have 325 hours in it so I did enjoy the game a lot but it got stale after awhile
I also haven’t played since S1 and did the same thing with the season pass but I will say the game is in a much better spot than when we last played and S4 will be 10x better. You should definitely give it a shot again.
With the new rabies ascpect leveling on druid from 1 to 50 was easy. The problem was acquiring the aspects to change my build into something that hit harder when the posion damage wasn't scaling high enough with the enemies' increase in health. I love all the changes coming to the game, and I'm excited for S4 even before they announce the season mechanic. I'm excited to see your ptr stream as you push these changes to the limits.
Speaking as someone with a software development background, the first few patch notes felt very much like the developers were being told to kick the can down the road; except for the excellent change to how crit/vuln worked. This one seems like the reins are slacked and they allowed the developers to really take risks and make wide spread change. Kudos to Blizzard for this one, the new season looks exciting. I'm curious to see how the testing goes and what comes out of it.
Hey Raxx, thanks for breaking this down - my time to play was drastically cut down so these videos are great for digesting new info. Thanks sir! They could have made a unique for Hydra that makes them spit incinerates...
Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in. Probably the best patch they've done. I really hope this game is good, Last Epoch has been so fun, I hope they learn from it.
I'm packing for a trip and just had this video on in the background as something to fill the air, but I kept stopping to pay attention to the specific changes and I gotta say, YES, this is actually a great patch and I will be trying season 4. =)
That's funny, since you have a DII avatar of a Sorc, which implies cold orbs endgame or MF starter. DII drops anything and everything - you're literally sifting through trash the entire game to find just a single slight upgrade; not to mention 5 tiers of mana and life pots that must be managed on your belt. I really don't understand why people are complaining about D4 for these reasons. The game has a built-in comparison tool - it shouldn't take long to assess an upgrade.
I can't believe I've been blasting D4 for almost a year. And S4 seems to be exactly what we couch dads needed. Thanks Rax, for caring and putting positive feedback out there. I trust you and the maxroll guys to have my back.
I deeply felt your sentiment towards minion AI in my core. PoE as an example, got the 'minions are aggressive tech on some items and a now bad suppport gem and on minions like SRS. Just make it a minion stance, that you can toggle on / off already. As someone who loves minion builds, it always feels like walking thru honey, instead of feeling aggressive and snappy. Thanks for the summary mate!
Really looking forward to this. First time I've felt overall positive since pre-launch. Glad to see the needle finally moving. Fingers crossed that it all works out.
That's a material change to the game. I'll totally give it a shot. No harm in trying. Let's see how PTR goes and what people hint at where this lands. I'm super excited to do a flurry build. Loved flurry even though it was a horrible build.
I skipped out on S3 because I was hopeful that something like this patch would happen and I didnt want to build up too much D4 fatigue. Super exited to see what the results of the PTR are going to be, and looking forward to S4. And hey maybe with the affix changes I can actually get gear for other classes while playing the first character for the season.
I knew from the D4 beta that there were problems. This patch is a massive and welcome improvement. I can finally recommend this game to my friends who enjoyed D3
Of note for Incinerate, you can take its enchantment and the Enchantment Master legendary Paragon node and get an 8-second Incinerate every 12 seconds that doesn't come from you. If you were pure Incinerate it was already a useful enchantment, but with the new unique it could be an interesting choice to use the unique and the Incinerate enchantment but not to use it yourself. That way you get all the benefits from it but you aren't locked down. I personally think that it will probably be playable regardless (I did Incinerate in S2 and it was hard and slow but doable), but this is definitely something you could take advantage of to get the benefits of the skill without having to deal with the drawback of standing still.
so the big takeaways from this is Barb gor toned down just a smidge to be a competitor and not just a one shot anything machine. rogue was given some slight buffs to make them more versatile, sorc now has ways to use anything other than lightning orb and druid and necro finally got the love they needed to be able to keep up with the other classes.
Definitely a huge win of a patch. However, they can do so much more with the Paragon system. I’d like to see them take huge strides in making the Paragon system the key system to make insane builds that create crazy chains of damage or completely change skills & builds. They can add unique boards or glyphs that compound damage in an exciting way and not just a boring boost to damage numbers. They could even make the Paragon system imitate the effects of a subclass. They really could do so much with it.
The changes seem great and will be refreshing jumping back into the game! Even more excited that we will have all this plus hopefully an awesome season 4 to package with it in the future!
Maybe I didn’t read it correctly, but it seems like for Druid a lot of the passive abilities kinda got hit with the Nerf back to some extent like they realize that this was giving too much damage reduction or too much damage, so they kind of made it so that it was like harder to obtain thator just straight up reduce the numbers
I have a problem at this particular time. No matter how good the changes are, I cant be invested cause I know that in 4 months I will have to pay 70 more euros to buy the first expansion! So every time I see one of those videos im like "hmm good changes, should I download it again?" and then in 2 seconds I remember...
Great video Raxx but you missed that a bunch of cheap elixirs (the res ones and others) now give double exp % buff. Faster leveling since these are easily able to be used 100% of the time you play. Stoked to check out frozen orb sorc, hydra/firewall sorc and minion necro on the PTR!
Hey Raxx, I think on the new uniques section you forgot to mention that new chest piece that gives you essentially the “artillery” shrine effect when you have 100% life. I think they showed it on the live stream.
WoW! That was something. Thank you for the summary, great work 👍. It is good to see so much stuff being changed/worked on. 4th time is the charm, maybe? 😀 However, it is still ridiculous that I cannot change the friggin' screen resolution in 2024 in a game that has a multi-million dollar budget 🙃
7:50 - They really need to buff Incinerate with being able to use it with WASD movement and to be able to lock on current target when dashing. That way you can move around freely while sustaining incinerate. I think that's the only buff that can make Incinerate viable. Mobility is the key here
Nice Breakdown and I am really excited for the Changes. BUT what I do not understand is the thing with the pit where basically group play is just bad for players who are not rocking the META Speed Ultra builds (yes we have to see how it actually will be but it reads lie that)... if there were support builds I assume they also would not work as they would not be in the front and also not dealing much damage? I think it would be much better to just give solo players some buff or something and balance that out or nerf the loot of the whole group instead of just the players who maybe a bit slower... or (and I know that sounds pretty insane) you could give the group leader an option how lott should be distributet like in PoE so groups of friends may not be affectet so much by this
It would be nice to be able to change the AI behavior of minions like the ranged ones will stay with you and melee ones will go on a certain distance from you. Coordinate to pick strongest foe first or spread to take out the small ones first... Being able to switch between these tactics on thy fly...You can use them as shield if tuned well, or let them running greedily all around the place. Destroy objects at sight or leave it alone ... Many possibilities I would like to see.
Good, necro was the only class i haven't played and gotten all achievements for yet, so i was gonna play necro anyways. VERY nice that it seems like they're not gonna be bad :D
11:04 minion ai on PoE is pretty good which is why one of the main complaints necros coming from PoE to D4 on release was about minions running behind you. Super sweet change to see. But yeah could you imagine every patch. At this point I'm just happy if they can maintain patches this good going forward. Sounds like it sucks to be a barb though unlucky
I've never been one to play multiple games at the same time. I'm still in love with Last Epoch. Hopefully i can find someone good to watch until you come back to the game
You missed one of the biggest nerfs to barb and imo the biggest: Blood rage is capped now and is reduced percentage from berserking by 60%. This will be the biggest nerf to barb regardless of skills picked.
Shred is gonna be nuts, i already found a way to make it sustain without the dire werewolf aspect, now it's even easier. And i know a crazy interaction that double dips crit dps that nobody seems to know about that's been kind of crazy but not necessarily OP as it just about triples your dps as opposed to hota fury that did like 16 times more, lol. Can't wait to see how it turns out The bloodmist buff might make me play necro now, it was difficult to find good uncommon builds that weren't soooo slooooow.
Great changes! Everything sounds much better.. let’s see what they will bring for the theme and season mechanics.. hope they keep the pet but make improvements, would be sick add on the gameplay if he can pick up gold and stuff for us, extra storage plus some buffs/attacks It’s stupid but we all know D4 gunna be insanely good, just takes long time for them to reach out to everyone taste and arpg systems
I still think the paragon board should replace the skill tree, and we should get a good number of points each level to get us started through it. Replace the glyphs with skill modifiers that could fully change the skill or just buff it. Each panel should be a different skill, and maybe reduce the travel size down a bit, so you would get your second skill by level 4 or something (level 5 on a fresh start). Let the player choose which skills aka boards to use, and just having the board equipped gives you access to that skill. You want to play a generator build? Then rather than just cutting through the generator (which the quickest path through it would give basic things like more generic damage and more generic life other things), you spend a lot of extra points into the generator board, buffing it's damage, utility and special features. Put a rare glyph into it, and now it can be a monster skill. They have the 'skill tree' available to make it a good theory craft while being friendly to new players (because of the ease of respecing). They could make the boards smaller or larger, and after level 50, you get less points. There could also be generic boards that you could use that are like the current paragon boards, in case you only have one skill you want or don't want to press more buttons, but then they could also unlock more button slots rather than just six. (Just make the triggers on a controller act as a different action bar. R2 X is different than just X.)
I was hoping for an overall exp boost because I don't have enough time to play but the patch seems to be really good ! I was begging Blizzard to allow me to farm and equip uniques before level 85-90 and playing the builds I love what require a specific unique. Hope it will be possible tho
10:54 In LE, can't you press a button to make your minions move/attack your cursor location? It was "A" on k&m, if I remember right. Not sure what it is on controller. I haven't played a minion build yet, (still new to LE) but that would seem to be the best "AI". I get it though, we want them to path on their own & to actually do it well. The updates seem decent, but I'm still going to wait until after I see videos of these changes actually working. If Blizzard were to incorporate most of the cool class customization & QoL from their competitors AND give us new content on the same level of going through D4 campaign for the 1st time, it would be game of the year.
A tells them to attack, whether they listen is the problem. They get stuck on rocks and sometimes you have to climb in the bosses butt to get the to attack. There are abilities that teleport them with you and that is really the best way.
I think a lot of people will ignore the game for awhile despite the positive changes, but once the first expansion drops I think it will blow up, and I might join even though I've sworn off live service games.
I've played Necro every season and I certainly tried doing a full on summoner build - just wasn't good enough BUT for S4, you damn right I'll be using Minions.. Lords of the Dead, Our time has come!
Bloodmist still isn't great though since it prevents you from attacking while active. Barbs and Sorcs will still be best since they can just teleport and be perma unstoppable. Moving faster is irrelevant when you're frequently frozen or snared.
Thanks for the breakdown Rax. I'll be honest, it's too little/too late for me (plus Last Epoch probably has me locked in for the foreseeable future) but im glad D4 seems to be getting proper attention and I hope everyone who plays it enjoys the new season
They really should raise the movespeed cap at this point because if you can get all those masterwork buffs and the 1.5x bonus on boots, quick math based on legacy stats results in like beyond 50% speed on boots alone already, but a cap at 100% is in my opinion kind of low now, maybe raise it to 125 or 150? Some classes can already break the cap with movement skills anyway, this would open up some possibilities and really force you to sacrifice something important for extra speed, because just that + amulet and the potion and you don't need anything from your skill tree for additional speed already or aspects freeing you one more aspect, which is frankly all i need to break the game with certain lesser known builds tbh.
the camera zoom should have been their main title of the patch, this got me HYPED
It's only about 10% difference but it was noticeable in the demo.

No Paint?
I’m loving frozen orb changes.iv been playing FO from the beginning and it’s going to be even better… FO/Hydra build s 4 yes baby!!!!!!
Might be worth a re-install if turn's out good. Thx for the summary Raxx!
Wish they reveal which affixes specifically were removed, I'll be checking the occultist asap to have a look.
I was hoping for an overall exp boost because I don't have enough time to play but the patch seems to be really good ! I was begging Blizzard to allow me to farm and equip uniques before level 85-90 and playing the builds I love what require a specific unique. Hope it will be possible tho
At 12:37 you're talking about dominion, and that's for necro not sorc
@@keithb6344 Appreciate the clarification on that.
Im actually excited for this season.
Pit needs a leaderboard
Now this actually looks interesting, and yeah, the camera zoom out! :D Like they almost forgot to mention that huge thing on livestream.. :D
I think a lot of people will ignore the game for awhile despite the positive changes, but once the first expansion drops I think it will blow up, and I might join even though I've sworn off live service games.
blow up? lol
It's hitting gamepass and is popular anyway. Alot of new players coming now
This actually sounds really good. I’ll
Jump back in with these changes.
I've played Necro every season and I certainly tried doing a full on summoner build - just wasn't good enough BUT for S4, you damn right I'll be using Minions.. Lords of the Dead, Our time has come!
I wonder when whirlwind barb will be a thing in D4.
It was top of the food chain.. for like 2 days.. preseason. Sorry u missed it
*Was a thing. Season 1.
@@ReyLentless Yeah, I started preseason as a druid, didn't know whirlwind was working xd
@@ReyLentlessthe good ole days🥲
Thanks for the recap :)
When we will see the season 4 theme and mechanics?
this is looking good and makes me happy, i want to enjoy the game but is so hard to do that as the game is right now.
How is the loot favoring the group leader an upgrade from getting lesser loot from being solo?
