@@Marcus001 gotta agree with Lane here. I mean if we’re following Robert’s primogeniture Stannis would be the heir and thus Renly is both treasonous and a rebel.
Also I mean, based on what Melisandre has shown stannis, he has literally no reason not to believe in her God and powers, especially compared to the 7. Given he has no experience with the old God’s clear powers as well.
I mean she shits out demon ghost babies, we had the whole “two is not three, but three is indeed three” thing, and he’s had visions. I mean like assuming his limited frame of reference he has literally no reason to not just be like “oh yeah guess this god is real, better listen to this priest lady”
I mean me personally, I’m an athiest, and if someone told me there was a fire god, I wouldn’t believe them. But then they start shitting out shadow babies, showing me visions in the fire, and apparently can just will someone died using a leech, yeah I’m gonna just go ahead and assume I was wrong and this god is real lol
I find it awesome that Stannis can see the black (smuggler) and the white (hero), and still manage to find the perfect middle ground. That is a real test of Stannis’s character and shows that he is more than a grumpy moral absolutist obsessed with justice/order. Most lords and kings would either solely reward or solely punish Davos for his actions. Stannis did both at the same time.
Yep, a lot of people look at good and bad deeds like pluses and minuses, once you add them together you decide if they are positive or negative and thus worthy of reward or punishment. Stannis rewards or punishes for each individual action rather than acting like it's ok to do bad things if you remember to balance the books.

Too right, after season 4 the show went downhill at an alarming rate. CGI and hollywood-esque battle sequences may have got the juices flowing for the average fan but they'll never feel what we book lovers feel when The Order of the Greenhand release a new video. Great video, love from Britain 🇬🇧🇬🇧
@@mohammedfaizan9366 I couldn't have said it better myself. Kill off Stannis all because they didn't like him. Oh and then giving Jon Snow his story. All while stripping the story of it's magical elements. Such a shame.
I feel particularly bad for the actor who played him. The guy was a perfect Stannis.
Azor Ahai Exactly and the manner in which he was killed, really put me off the show, don’t even get me started on the injustice done to Littlefinger. One of the smartest and most cunning character in literary history beaten at his own game by two teenage girls. They could’ve made it more believable by building Sansa character arc in a way which she started to control her own destiny instead of being forced to feign courtesy in situations she didn’t want to be. For example in season 5 she could’ve manipulated the Bolton’s and escape Winterfell. It would’ve made her seem that she’s finally the one in control and has learnt how to play the game instead they rushed it all and gave Littlefinger a death he didn’t deserve.
@@mohammedfaizan9366 totally agree. I hated the whole Sansa in Winterfell storyline. I just felt so bad for her cos she was being built up at the end of season 4 only to be beaten down. And then Varys becoming someone who wants to protect the realm. Really? Then why destabilize it in the first place? And don't get me started on all the magic they left out.
I feel that the dislike for Stannis at court in KL was mostly because the players of the "game" knew that if Stannis came to power the "game" would be over. No way Baelish and Varys or the Lannisters would last long under a Stannis reign.

I've always kind of thought that the reason why Stannis is so physically different than Robert and Renly is because he gave little Renly his share of food during the siege and now is bald and thinner because he was protecting his little brother.

@@lanestapp2 I got that. But he wasn’t malnourished but probably the last 3-6 months at the most. So the first 19-20 years of his life he was fed well, 3-6 months he didn’t eat well at all and then he’s been eating fine again until going north. Those two shadow babies are why he looks gaunt now. This is mentioned in the book.

Josef Boroff This Story (like most all from GRRM) will not be so black and white. Just like Lyanna wasn’t taken as once believed, their story will have other variables currently unknown to us. I hope we learn the true gray story one day!

Aerys believed that everyone was out to get him, that one day treason would get him killed... and he was right, Ned's dad had 'southern ambitions', Rhaeger was obviously plotting a coup and he was killed by his own kingsguard (although Jaime was right to do so).
Rhaeger seemed to be obsessed with prophecy and you only need to look at Melisandre to see how dangerous that kind of belief can be for a ruler with absolute power. We don't know much about Rhaeger, only that he was charismatic enough to have cult like love from knights years after his death and that he abandoned his wife and children for a girl who's consent remains questionable.
Maybe he would have been a great king but I think he would have been the worst king to ever rule.

Ok... so, Rhaegar was planning a coup, sure. But a coup against his psychotic, abusive, violent, hated father.
"Southern ambitions" doesn't have to mean anything like a coup on the Stark's end... I thought he was just trying to get more involved in the Seven Kingdoms and make alliances outside of the North. That's legitimately important stuff in their society.
And you seriously can't use Jaime making the legitimately right decision as a point in Aerys's favor.
And Rhaegar was obsessed with the prophecy, sure. But that has proven to also be a legitimate concern. The Others aren't just a scary story, they're real and the biggest threat to human existence... believing and trying to fulfill the prophecy that destroys them isn't a point against him.

I always found it odd that our boy ned and stannis are almost the same person just with some difference in life experience. I wonder why robert loved ned so much but not stannis
Perhaps Ned reminded him of Stannis but was a bit more fun so thought of him as a brother much faster than most.
Maybe the whole sibling rivalry thing, combined with being separated during their real development years? In their society Robert being the eldest seriously restricted Stannis's life options, even before he was King, Robert would've been Lord. Stannis was skilled and took his responsibilities seriously, but no matter how good he was he couldn't usurp his older brother's inheritance, it's like having a slacker boss you can't get promoted over. Eddard was a serious younger brother to a hot headed slut too, but he wasn't Robert's brother so there wouldn't be any personal resentment between them over Robert's antics. Plus whose to say if Robert and Stannis had been able to grow up together during their teen years instead of Robert being sent away for fostering, they might have grown closer during those important formative years. Stannis was two years younger which isn't a big deal once you're older but as a little kids two years difference in maturity can be a lot, so they probably didn't have a tight early relationship to leave off on. Then it's not like Robert ever stayed at home after that. Instead the rebellion happened, they fought separately instead of together, so they never even had a chance for a bonding moment.
Ned is quiet and can appear cold to strangers and foes but he's warm to his friends and family. Stannis on the other hand is warm or kind to pretty much nobody.

Edrick storm was definitely not his only bastard that Robert acknowledged... what about Mya stone? His first child... at least this video didn't have gapping holes in the plot points you used... like Jaqen being a God cause he used magic to kill whis with his own dog... even though arya finds out later that it was a poison that the faceless men use regularly. Not to mention how he just kills whoever he wants... yet all his kills served a purpose. The 3 for arya were for the red God cause she saved 3 from the fire. Pate was so he could get the key to the citadel and pates face so he could blend in. All towards the mission he is obviously on. And since the faceless men are no one... it stands to reason they have no names... so at the house of black and white nobody should know anyone by the name of Jaqen Hagar
Edric Storm is the only bastard Robert ever formally recognized. He did visit and play with Mya Stone, but she isn’t formally recognized. And the poison you’re referring to makes anything that takes it go wild. Wease’s dog killed him, then laid down and started licking his face. And Faceless Men kill a very specific target. They DO NOT KILL ANYONE THAT GETS IN THEIR WAY WHILE THEY’RE DOING THEIR JOB. That’s not an opinion. It’s a straightforward fact that’s explicitly laid out. Jaqen literally breaks every rule of the Faceless Men.

We all know the real hero of the story is Selyse's mustache, and Stannis for having the courtesy not to say anything about it.
On a more serious note, Stannis got a raw deal. But his "break before he bends" nature certainly didn't help him, and I think he doomed his cause the moment he accepted Melisandre, who actively burns the gods of everyone in Westeros.

YEEESSSSS!!!! Finally! I've been waiting so long for you guys to do a video on Stannis. Hes my favorite book character. He would be such an amazing king for the entire realm. Wise and merciful (to an extent). I know he will probably die but I'm holding out hopehe somehow makes it to the end. Imagine having Young Griff or Dany on the throne with Stannis as the hand! I completely disagree with comparing Neds justice to Stannis’ justice. Ned had a far more black and white view of the world while Stannis has a greyer world view but has the right idea of how to break down how complex people are. They do bad things. They do good things. We must consider both and all acts shall reap what they sow.
Gotta say, love Stannis the Mannis... dude's a hard man. But look who's his family, a brother who couldn't keep it in his pants and could almost give Frey's a run for their money on children, a soft little boy who wants to be everyone's friend, parents who died doing an errand for the Nad King. He had to ve the rock in the sea of that insanity

It’s pretty horrific that the show turned that scene into a rape scene. Like it’s not the most comfortable to read bc Danny is 14, so by modern standards it’s statutory rape…but modern laws like that don’t apply. She got married and it needed to be consummated and it was done in a way where she enjoyed it. The show went for some sort of shock value which is just awful. It’s one of the few scenes in season 1 that kinda betrayed just how bad the show was going to get.

Stannis is not at all consistent and coherent as that. He interprets the law and any situation to suit him and pays just lip service to integrity.
Chopping just the fingertips when should have been the whole hand (or simply a pardon since Davos was a hero and possibly the best man in the whole series), forgiving treacherous lords when it's convenient, not speaking the truth to robert after arryn's death etc. He cultivates the image of himself as the black and white just and all that nonsense but he is an hypocrite and so insecure that he needs to deceive himself to keep going. There are of course many many worse rulers or men than him in ASOIAF but the way I see it he is no great man or king.

It's really surprising more people didn't try to crown Edric Storm. He had a tremendously strong claim. Renly had control of him. Renly might have won the war at a stroke if he went to Ned and said "OK, incest yeah. But Stannis would be a disaster I would be worse but I have Roberts highborn acknowledged son we stick a crown on his head, I'll be regent you be Hand or go back to Winterfell as you please. Sansa can marry Edric or not. Up to yoy. I'll marry Margaery Tyrell so now the Lannisters are alone- we have Stormlands, North, Reach, Riverlands, Vale, make Sweetrobin warden of East, just behead Littlefinger and Varys real quick (how the fuck are they still alive), throw Cersei and the kids in a comfortable tower, bring Edric here and crown him. And execute Pycelle first. Robert legitimized Edric Storm on his deathbed right? That should shut Stannis up. You have the Greyjoy kid, the Martells hate the Lannisters... Fuck it we can even let Tywin live out his days as "Warden of West" even spare the twincesters and the bastards.
