    Wow. Some of you in this comment section are absolute dense. This is not a fad, this is teaching your child how to be a person. 🤦🏼‍♀️ smh.

    @MrsCarrieG your baby wouldn't choke on whole foods because the tongue thrust would prevent that. They may gag, but that's not harmful and brings it back up. Spoon feeding purees and cereals are actually more of a choking hazard because they are pushed to the back of the mouth and down the throat before the baby can control it.

      Bs. A baby can choke on anything. Hope over this last decade u haven't been spreading your ignorance

    Lily seemed to really want to start eating at this age. When we sat down together she would point at our food and then her mouth. She was almost 5 months old and the time felt right so we went for it. She barely swallowed any anyway. She is a fantastic eater now. She's just had about 10 mini weetabix, half a bannana and some penut butter on toast. I believe that you should trust your instincts on these kind of things. The advice changes all the time anyway. If it feels right - go for it!

    Theres a bit of a difference between smoking around your child and giving them solid food. As long as they can gum it down enough to swallow it there stomach can digest it ... our intestines are a strong organ.I have 6 siblings who were all fed using BLW. dont fight with me on this, its safe.

    @Frenchblue8 There is a choking risk with anything- solids, mashed foods, toys etc. These things do happen but that doesn't mean BLW is putting your baby at risk any more than normally. It teaches them good solid food technique sooner so that choking is less of a problem in later months. As long as you go about it safely it doesn't have to be dangerous. I think most parents should read up about choking and first aid just to be safe anyway. Glad your baby was ok, by the way.

  • @missusangel
    @missusangel 13 років тому +4

    @Anglynn74 Interesting that you you refer to BLW as 'these new frangeled experiments'. Wonder what parents did thousands of years ago before the invention of blenders and feeding utensils. Totally agree with parents being prepared for choking hazards though as they can occur at any time with children, whether they're doing BLW, being spoonfed or simply playing with toys. Highly recommend that any one looking after children do a first aid course!

  • @mommypengin

    BLW is linked to lower BMI's, healthier eating habits and fewer food allergies. My son started solids, real solids not puree at 4 months, hes never choked and eat anything I give him to try. This is not a new concept at all, my mother, grandmother and great grand mother all fed us this way they just called it teaching us to eat!

    • @patrickwalsh5729
      @patrickwalsh5729 6 років тому

      @@patrickwalsh5729If you don't believe them, call your local health department or pediatrician. BLM babies are no more likely to choke, and as they get older are LESS likely because they have learned how to eat regular food from a young age.

    • @sarahgracenadeau
      @sarahgracenadeau 2 роки тому

      @@asheisadora Explaining it to people who are just looking for an argument is so pointless lol. Parents know their child and what to do with them better than anyone, trust your instincts and watch your child and you, and they, will be just fine.

  • @missusangel
    @missusangel 13 років тому +3

    @bitasuite Totally agree! Parents know best. And as for Lily, she looks far more advanced than some 6 month olds I've seen doing BLW. She's trying to chew and everything! The WHO have released new guidelines this year to say that breastfed babies can start weaning any time from 4months - 6 months, which is a change to the previous 6 mth recommendation.

  • @Frenchblue8
    @Frenchblue8 12 років тому +7

    (con't) because I ended up having to push it down the back of her throat as far as I could. Only when she then coughed and burst out crying did I know she was really ok. I have never told this to a soul, nor was it easy for me to type about it here, But if our story could make even one parent rethink giving tiny babies giant stalks of broccoli. etc., it was worth reliving that horrific day. When baby starts eating 'solids' is personal. But no one has the right to risk a child for a fad.

    Awesome parents! She is developping early sensorial skills by experiencing touching, tasting with the mouth! It looks obvious the food has been steamed! Baby looks well taken care of busy experiencing! Better to see this rather than people taking their babies to MacDonalds and filming them shitting their diaper while eating!!!

  • @sharonmchugh7957

    I understand trying to get baby used to different tastes and textures but why do the food pieces have to be so big? Why not in smaller more manageable pieces?
    And if you're introducing more then one food at a time and baby has an allergy how do you know what the baby had the reaction to?

  • @A_Generic_Duck

    My baby (our second) is three months old so I'm looking into BLW now so I can prepare. Have just ordered the book by Gill Rapley so I can see what sort of foods are most appropriate. Thank you for you video. Nct advice is to buy s crinkle cutter so that foods are easier to pick up. Never tried this method with my first child and regretted it.

    @bitasuite Congrats. I´m learning at this exact moment, my daughter 6 months old started eating this week, but she does not want to eat the mashed fruits and cries and just wants me to breastfeed her, I´m a little bit concern and I don´t know how to approach it, I´m afraid she can choke herself with a piece of food.

    • @asheisadora
      @asheisadora 3 роки тому

      No, after three months they can have solid food, supplemented by breast milk or formula til they are a year old. Milk is necessary, but they can have other things in addition to it. Please, consult the health department or a pediatrician on this.

    @TheGambit1982 breastfed babies don't need extra iron if they only drink breastmilk. It's only when you introduce solids that iron absorption becomes more difficult. Ma

  • @JmeSamano1

    If you put a puppy in front of her she would put it in her mouth it doesn't mean she is trying to eat it. She can't sit up on her own nor does she have the motor skills to even pick up the food on her own. If she has an allergic reaction you wouldn't even know what it was to because you are introducing multiple foods at one time. If she survives your protocol it will be despite this lame movement.
