I used the Ace JD yellow and green when I refurbished a 87 SX75 and the colors were spot on. Also it is a good quality paint. I also undercoated the underside of the deck and it helps keep it clean.
Love Joe Dirt!! Thank you!! I just got an 1988 750 series with only 1700hrs on it. It has some basic rust spots, but all decals are in good shape, so I want to make it look right. I'm going to ACE today!!
I think the farm and construction John Deere yellows are different. And the ace seems closer for the construction equipment. But who knows? As long as it protects the metal that’s key. Cool video thanks
Great vid! Dang, I bought that exact yellow paint you used at the video end (ace rust stop, JD yellow Gloss) and it still doesn't match my yellow deck. The deck color is a tad more orange-ish / darker yellow. any ideas? I've looked everywhere for a good JD yellow color match, even bought some at the local JD dealer (it's also too yellow). I may just have to paint the four wheels to match my new deck so that the deck doesn't stand out so much. (and then the seat won't match)
$3.99!...it's $7.50 at my Ace...still reasonable. Maybe you mixed it up with the 12 ounce price cans, but they are now $5.99 at my ace. Glad to pic it up, Going to make a luxury john deere curb address. Note the caterpillar yellow always/eventually clogs on me.
Pre 60s John Deere green looks darker than modern JD green and the yellow looks lighter than present day JD yellow. Modern paints fade faster than pre 60s from my experience.
Just use OEM...all the work of painting is in the prep...then people chince on the paint; doesn't make sense. Longevity of the paint over time and how it weathers over time. Years ago before big corp. Tractor Supply ruined "Central Tractor" by turning it into a glorified feed and pet store, they produced CT paint for the JD colors and I remember using it, and it weathered terrible. The paint became chalky and off-color after about a year.

Yep I agree Ace has great JD paint.
I just bought my first John Deere today, im pissed the decks are all green in 2023. Thank god for your video so i can make it yellow!!!!
What Green Decks! I had no idea. Have fun painting
@@MowerMike yeah I guess John deere is going "GREEN"!!!! Ha ha 😂

Wow that is a seriously used mower. Good luck, you got this!
Really awesome paint test
Thanks it was a fun one
Based on your video I just picked up the Ace color pair yesterday for $12 total. Thanks!
Nice glad it helped
Awesome video. Just saved me a crap load of time! 👍
Was a fun one glad it helped.
I'm here for the yellow
Haha is a damn nice yellow
Rust-oleum "Sun Yellow" is a great match for JD Yellow. It's only 6.95 here in Florida. I actually like it better as it's just a touch deeper yellow.
Thanks for the info !

Glad ya enjoyed it was fun
Try krylon implement paint. Their husqvarna orange was perfect
The dark green looks like a good choice for old 2 cylinder tractors
I like it!

Haha my only advice is you are overthinking this.
Ace JD yellow and green spot on cant tell at all now what about a cub cadet yellow match what is the best for that color
Hmmm I think Ace has a cub cadet yellow. Will have to research that one on your own there Kirk.

I hear ya spray paint has doubled in price recently. I like the curb idea, good luck with your art work.

Oh I will, I'm one of the absolute best curb address painters.😉
Project will be posted at
Unique Addresses on Facebook in 2-3 days. Later.
All that and you never pulled the tape for comparison on the yellow?!
Yep am a very amateur spray painter lol
John Deere has two different greens.....before 1989 and then after.
Interesting tidbit thanks

Yeppers I agree good point
The ace yellow looks more like a caterpillar yellow than a John Deere yellow
Hmmm you maybe on to something there
Krylon also has matching spray paint for all John Deere colors, I’ve always had good results with krylon paint
I tried to find some but couldn’t.
The krylon always seems too thin and requires many more coats.

Thanks for the history of Tractor Supply. I had no idea. I do agree it is a great place to get dog food though and some of those doggie toys.
..."cut it with a wire wheel"? " lets pull this paint off"? And, practice welding more... ;)
Haha I am a complete amateur
WTH your results for the yellow are worthless, no comparison to original yellow. Waste of time
Not a total waste, I had fun spraying paint.
