Trey Lorenz has been Mariah’s backup singer since the beginning, he still is and has become one of her best friends. He did have a solo album in the 90s that Mariah wrote on and sang a couple of backgrounds on.
They actually needed a filler song at the last minute so they literally had 24 hours to arrange and rehearse this cover! That just shows how much a true musician she is not just a singer and of course surrounded by some of the best in the business. The guy singing with her is Trey Lorenz who’s still doing back up for her to this day. She did help him with a few solo albums, but they never took off. They’re best friends.
Make It Happen was the biggest surprise to me. I dont love the song, but I do love this version. Loved seeing her two co-producers / co-songwriters at the piano together!
This is the only performance in all the times she's done this song where she belts "just look over your shoulder". I love this one the best. And prefer the belt of that phrase
I can Clearly remember hearing this Cover for the 1st time as a Teenager 🤯🤯🤯🤯😱😱😱😱😱. If memory serves me right this version of I'll Be There, was or may still be the Fastest song to climb the Billboard charts to #1. I own the MTV UNPLUGGED DVD 🙏 & miraculously it still has no scratches 🤭. The label wanted her to add a Cover during Unplugged she had considered other songs but ultimately decided on I.B.T. , which suits her tone and range splendidly (she was a Huge M.J. fan as well, years later M.J. publicly supported M.C. in regards to the Over controlling Tommy Motolla.
30 years these two have been singing this song and it's always beautiful. They also sung it at Michaels funeral. They have so many great moments with this song over the year's.
Her voice was made for songs that sound like they could have been warped somehow into present day from the '50s and '60s...Vision of Love, Love Takes Time, et al. are really her greatest songs to me, and I forgot how beautiful this performance is-including her co-lead singer's. I *really* admire Mariah Carey. Of the *great* voices of her era, she wins out for me because the others' songs feel so generic by comparison to hers. She's a songwriter, and a very witty one at that, and her songs have character and personality we don't hear in Whitney's or Celine's songs. They are all beyond excellent-they're the best-but she's the most engaging. As time has gone on and her sense of humor about herself has become more apparent, I've really come to love her.
The success of this kicked off her doing a cover on each album and her only US#1 that she did NOT write. One of my favourite Mariah songs of all time, as her voice was in the sweet spot of raw dark power of the Debut/Emotions era and the start of the refinement of the Music Box era.
@@bridgethegapreactions Her other covers are: Without You / Against All Odds / Bringing On the Heartbreak / I Still Believe / I Wanna Know What Love Is / Endless Love / Do You Know Where You’re Going To / One More Try
You know what? I'm not actually sure that I mentioned her voice during this song or even during the whole show reaction! As a Mariah Carey reactor, I have no idea how I keep getting away with this. For the avoidance of doubt: her voice was really good.
She and Trey Lorenz sang this song at Michael Jackson's funeral. It wasn't the best, but full of emotion, for obvious reasons. There is a version here on UA-cam.
I noticed that you had your eyes 👀 closed when Trey Lorenz did the high vocal run. I am assuming that you were so casual because you thought it was Mariah but it was Trey😂
Hi Johnny, love your channel. Any chance you would do reactions to Jessie j live at the troubadour 'who you are' collection. Reminds me a bit of Mariah's MTV unplugged show. Lots of good songs to choose from on it!
Certainly the best cover of the incredible Jackson 5 and the MTV Unplugged rendition is one of the best if not the best rendition of it.

Its quite scary to think Michael singing this as a child blows all the covers out the water 😂 Mariah is excellent still though
