When I used to add my ELX200 18SP subs to my EV-50s, I ran my EV-50 subs at -20 volume. That sounded best to my ears. Sounded great actually.

Brian, I have to have you on my podcast. I love this. I agree with everything you brought up. I currently have All White EV Evolve 50Ms and ELX200 18 inch subs in white and 15" two ways in white. I agree big events require big equipment, but I love using ,y Evolve 50ms but over 150 people or if they want that clubby ( Wobble) sound the 12:: subs in the Evolves will not move the ground. I started toying with adding one 18: sub and it rocked. I wish Evolve would come out with a 15: sub unit! I also use a DBX Drive Rack PA2 in high, lows, and special full range. For big events I have used both 18"s and both 15" 2 ways and then the evolve 50's down the side or in the rear for backfill Seems to work great. I love following your realistic approach! Keep it up and next year, Love to have you on the show, and I cant wait to meet you in DJIX in Atlantic City

This is why like your channel, you make it ok to go against the norm in a highly critiqued DJ culture 🔊🔊👍🏼

Why force yourself to go with the norm if the norm isn't going to work for something? Creative solutions are always valid and if it sounds great then more to you!

That's why I love doing this with my Bose S1pros and Bose sub 1s or 2s I am ready empress with the Bose sub 1s because they are easy to carry and pack an amazing punch 👊. LOL great video!

In most systems and with most types of dance music you will find that the bass uses up to 80% of the power output of the amps. So by adding a sub to the Evolve you are taking some of the load off of the Evove amp. This allows for that power to go to the Evolve and keeps you from coming close to or actually clipping the amp.
I found that when I just used two Evolves, I was clipping at every event once things got loud. This was especially true if I increased the bass knob on my mixer. Often the clipping wasn't that obvious to my ears but it was there.
So when I added the sub the clip light no longer flashed. I could add a little more bass at my mixer and the overall sound was cleaner and louder. I also got punchier bass.
The downside is that i am now carrying a sub again.

Awesome choice. I have used my evolve 50ms with a single 18. Sounds great

Brian I use the RCF J8 speakers with DRM 18s subwoofers. I stack the J8's on top of the subs. For a low ceiling i only use 1 part of the 2 pole setup. For large rooms I use both poles. it sounds amazing. The tops are up above the crowd. Well the bass is down where it belongs. I also use the booth knob for the subs alone. It lets me adjust the bass as needed.

I run a single ELX200-12sp sub with my EV30, makes a huge differnce!

Glad that it worked great for the event. I guess the mics and everything only goes out the evolve 30m's and the subs only does for music. Congrats!

I just found ALL your videos in the last few days about pairing EV 50s with subs and it's hillarious to see this after hearing you not reccomend it for like 2 years. Like this is like hillarious to me. I hope you know this made my day. Like watching someone try green eggs and ham. haha.
I have a pair of EV 50s that in about every space, from an empty room to 50-80 people, I'm fighting with getting the subs to throw farther with a heavier feel, audio from the array always sounds like it's outpacing the subs.
In fact I feel like I get a better mix when I'm sitting on the floor than I do at standing height. I've wanted to get the short column poles and set the speakers on risers as a potential option to bring the subs closer to ear level.
So my layman-approach I've known for a while adding subs would give me fuller sound for my House/Techno/EDM parties.
I was getting ready to purchase a sub today so if you could give your final opinion.
Would I be fine with an ELX200-18SP despite not having a HPF out, or do you still think it's still better to explore a sub with a HPF, like the RCF 702 AS II - 15in

When I was doing subs, I used a BBE crossover/maximizer so the mains only had to work on everything past 180Hz. You could push them harder for larger events. I've done staggering of the subs behind and in front and never noticed phasing, it's hard to tell with lower freqs.

I love column arrays for the simplicity however I have concluded that a pair of 15 subs and 10inch tops are space and time willing is just a superior set up at! They are mildly harder to set up and weight is slight more sure but I watch a country band melt faces off with that set up and it convinced me very quickly!

I wonder if you would have had the same result with a couple of 8" og 10" tops instead of the Evolve 30M?
I used to use 2 x ETX 10Ps with 15" subs (4 x EKX-15SP) - the sound was amazing - that was before COVID hit.

No, not the same. Those who haven't used arrays like this (properly) have a hard time understanding how cool they are for social events

Hi Brian, thanks for your video, hope you're doing well. I'm in the same path as you with this kind of set-up for my next weddings and medium size events. Given the fact I've already got four LD Maui 28 G2 as my main PA system (sounds great in the medium and high frecuencies, but are not capable of a good punch in the lows without clipping) I'm going to add a couple of 15 subs. I would love to get a pair of RCF for sure, but I can't afford just now the price tag so question is: Two Behringer EUROLIVE B1500XP (750W RMS / 3000W Peak) or a couple of HK AUDIO SONAR 115 Sub D (375W RMS / 1500W Peak)? The HK boxes weights less and are more sophisticated given the DSP, cardioid options, etc but the Behringer are cheaper, comes with a Turbosound cone and are more powerful... maybe too much for a solid marriage with the Mauis. What do you think?
Have seen and dischard for different reasons (weight, SPL, price, handling, reliability, etc) the LD ICOA and Stinger series, ALTO, EV, JBL, QSC, Mackie, dB Technologies, etc. Any other solid option in the same price range that maybe I'm not aware of? I really like to know all your opinions. Thanks for your input and best regards from Spain!

Just had one of my EV 50 subs get damaged due to the heavy bass in some hip hop songs. Sent in for repair. Thought of getting rid of them, maybe ill try a dual sub set up as well. I use the white column set up, with some EV 200 SP 18 in white would look sexy as hell with up lighting under it all. Thoughts on stacking the EV 50 on top of the EV 200 sp 18 subs?

I like the arrays at ear level for guests. Hip Hop low frequency sub bass is crazy low & you have to know how to send a clean signal out of your mixer + probably consider a HPF set up of some kind on your tops to avoid blowing stuff up

I bet it sounded great, I usually run an ELX200-18sp or 2 with my columns when needed. I've thought about buying an EKX 15" because sometimes the 18 can be a little boomy for some events but often times I want a little more bass than the 12" woofers give me so I always thought the EKX 15 would be a happy medium.

Try running the subs out of your booth and run the mains out of the master outputs
Sounds better and you'll have more control over subs
