    Good Stuff. I own a Evolve 50 now and humping it in & out is the real drag. Everything else is great about it. Your points on ease of transport really hits home. I know what I'm buying as soon as I get a few more gigs.
    Thanks

    Thanks man. I think you actually got me to finally decide which one I will get! (as you know the 50 is also available now as a M - Mixer model which is my favourite feature as I will use it both as a DJ and a trubadour-rig. But when you say the 10" kicks good and when I saw you lift them, then I made up my mind!).
    Cheers from Stockholm, Sweden.

    Great vIdeo. Informative as always Brian. I’ve been using a pair of Evolve 50’s for over a year now and couldnt be happier. Haven’t DJ’d a venue/event yet where they didn’t kick butt. I’m thinking about getting a pair of 30M’s for side fill applications in larger events. In your opinion do you think that would suffice for a 200 person event or am I better off picking up another pair of 50s?

  • @Grapevine_DJ

    I own both. The 30 is sweeter and more natural sounding than the 50. It’s a chin scratcher.

      @@robnos9901 For what it's worth. I used a pair of EV 50s for Saturdays wedding. It was a large room with about 150 guests. I was playing at a pretty good volume but when I went out to the dance floor there was a MAJOR drop off of volume. Not sure what to make of it but I wished at the time that I had a horn drive speaker. There were no complaints or anyone asking me to turn it up. I still love the ease of setting up, teardown and transporting so I'm not switching.

      Haahaa.. I've been scratching my chin literally throughout this whole video, I originally bought one evolve 50 for my bistro residency with the capacity of 80 plus people and it was way too much for the room.. took it back and got the evolve 30m and it's absolutely perfect I just use one (no room for another) for my one man band/dj/karaoke.. I might buy one more for other gigs.. not having cables dangle all around is a major Plus.. I do have a pair of JBL PRX 812's which are absolutely wonderful, and a smaller Yamaha stage pass 600 10 inch system which is great too for other applications but darn I love this evolve 30m all the way around..

    Thank you, great reviews and your opinions are spot on. Picked up the 30Ms a few months ago and they are solid. I am considering trading in a pair of ELX200-18sp with ZLX12 tops along with the Yamaha MX12XU mixer I've used with them for a 50M teamed with a 50 but you sort of make me rethink the extra $$ that I would have to lay out.

  • @13bcoffee
    @13bcoffee 2 роки тому +2

    I have played on both and I prefer to use the 50s for what I perceive is more bass and more throw. But as you stated the 30 is much lighter and for smaller gigs it will be ok. In my case I like a lot of bass during my sets. So I would only use the 30s for a really small house party or corporate event where they don't need the walls shaking.
    For the most part a good deal of this depends on the music. Hip Hop is very dominant and needs bass. I also think that dance music such as House needs extra bass.
    So when I get the chance to take either of these out I bring a sub along. Even a 15 inch sub really helps. Without it, I find myself push the speaker amp into the red most of the night.
    I did a street party with my friend and his Evolve 50s and two of my subs. The sound was really good for what it was.
    I actually own the RCF EVOX J8. Those too are right on the edge of needing a sub for my loud style of play.

    I really do appreciate your videos. You show who you actually are and what you actually use despite what's trending. You show real world use of your gear, shot on your phone showing us that you don't need all this super expensive gear to accomplish a great event. Also you showed that you don't use a controller anymore and you still rocked a party because its always about the music and not the gear. Well, you do have great gear lol..... but your expertise shines over that because great gear means nothing if you don't know what you are doing, so thank you!!!!!

      You "can" add a sub, but the Evolve systems are not designed to be used as part of a 3 way system. Evolves have no adjustable HPF option, and contemporary EV subs have no HPF output options to compensate for that. So, I don't have an EV sub recommendation for you. About the best I can do is suggest that if you are going to try this (which I don't recommend doing), is to find a small sub with a HPF output option. FBT Subline 112SA has this. Really these Evolve systems were designed to be compact stand-alone solutions for sound. Adding a sub to these is like trying to make a giant compact car. It won't be compact anymore, so just get a bigger car instead.

    My curiosity is I’m a solo musician and also play in a blues trio. Upright bass and harmonica and such. There is no big bass subs and stuff. So this wall shaking bass and big edm and wedding stuff doesn’t exist. The band I’m currently in uses a bose l1 tower for every gig and it’s fine. In fact we’ve used an Everse 8 with an upright through it (for just the above ear sound) and vocal and it was doing some limiting but it was good. So based on that…would the 30M work? Sometimes I think people think bands have to be blaring loud but i guess I suppose that’s something that’s not legit for the music I play???

It is just a better kick for your preference. But, regardless it is all our preference. It just doesn't make sense for them to make the 30 better than the 50.

      You could spread them out or use the 30M as rear fill with the delay feature, but it won't be "louder", per say. For that, you need to double whatever you are using. In my case here, since these speakers are not identical, the loudest I'll get will be the 2 50's. If I had 4 50's, that would be louder than 2 50's, 8 will be louder than 4, 16 will be louder than 8, 32 will be louder than 16, etc

    3db doesn't sound like much but 3db is equivalent to double the horse power. For every 3db gain you double the output.

      Interesting, I never knew that

    • @smartass6071
      @smartass6071 3 роки тому +6

      @@jonjeffries3265 Yep
      For example, take a PA or stereo and lets say it puts out 100 watts per side and you have two 8 ohm speakers hooked up one on each side. If you add 2 more 8 ohm speakers the watts usually double so now you have 4 speakers pushing 200 watts per side. You would think that it would be twice as loud. But it's not. You only precieve that it's twice as loud. Lets say with one pair of speakers cranked up all the way to clipping it pushes 120db. By add 2 more speakers you only end up with 123db.
      Having the speaker spread out you have 120db, but if you put the speakers side by side (couple) them you will get 123db.
      Same with subs. Thats why many DJ's place there speakers all in one stack, because it increases the output by 3db every time you couple them together.
      In addition a speaker in the middle of the room is not as loud as a speaker in a corner. The wall adds 3db as does the floor and the back wall. If you put all the speakers in a corner against the back wall you get an added 3db from the back wall and another 3db's from the side wall, and another 3db from the floor.
      So a 100 watt speaker at 120db in the middle of the room is not as loud as the same speaker in the corner. By putting it in the corner you end up with 129db's from the same speaker. Your welcome.

      my vote would go to the Evolves. They look a lot nicer and they sound better in my personal opinion. They're also available in white which I'm in love with. I could also be a little bias, I've always preferred EV over JBL.
      Volume wise EV wins again at 123db for the 30M compared to JBL's 118db. 5 db is a noticeable difference.
      But the EV is more expensive so there's a cost to those benefits. I've seen some open box or demo models in the 30M selling for the same price as the JBL EON ONE so that's a possible way to get them for the same price.

    I still can't believe you guys are using these...at even moderate listening levels, let alone loud, these things will do damage to people's ears. Low levels they sound great. The mid-highs and highs are atrocious. They are perfect for singer/songwriters doing vocals and guitar, not DJ-ing IMO.

      I agree, this is for presentations or acoustic music. In central europe you will never see a dj roll up to a non kid party with such a set. Usually tops have bigger drivers than these bass cabs, no way you can get satisfying low end on these little things. And you're right, it's definitely not helping if you run them close to clip level. I understand Brian uses them because they are easy to carry, but don't think he should advise them for these usecases. That dome room wasn't small, even if the volume wasn't needed I want to get good body to the sound so would put about 5,5kw 4x 18" + 2x 12".

      @@fazeraoe9582 I think we can all agree that the quality and volume of sound would depend on the crowd you're playing for.... Bone shaking bass is usually reserved for the younger set, while the Evolve 50's are FANTASTIC for the non-bone shaking crowds. I swear by my pair, and won't look back....;)

      @@fazeraoe9582 agree. 90% of my gigs have 200 guests or less. 2 12” tops and one 15 or 18” sub sounds great. Djs now are simply obsessed with what gear looks like. Clients don’t care. You’re a DJ. You have speakers. Speakers require stands. Move on.
