- Hey welcome back everyone, had fun trying to mic up the massive tone of Puppets today. Please don't be offended by the mistakes in my playing. I haven't practiced these songs in a while.
Thanks for tuning in again, feel free to email me with any questions at Lambchopper678@me.com Subscribe to the channel and follow on me Facebook lambchopper6...
I love the fact that people in their 40's and 50's (me) are chugging away and playing deadly metal and having fun! I can't imagine my old man doing shit like this at his age and it makes me happy seeing older metal heads CRUSHING it out!! Great work LambChopper678!! just think, in ten years seniors centres will be playing hip hop and metal and rave! lol. some already are.
ME Too! i'm 53 and still hard rocking it!
Brother, Heavy Metal is for old people now. Young 20 years old people rarely listen to it. I'm 35 and feel I'm already too young for the average Metalhead...
yup that would be me! It is my therapy and gets rid of stress even though I am no virtuoso.
@@ericksousa911 they listen to rap and pop crap
Erick Sousa I’m 18. Don’t worry, there will be another generation of metal heads!! Maybe not as many as in the 80s/90s. But we live on my friend!!
As a fan of Master of Puppets - it was pleasure to watch your video and listen to your playing. Sound was very close but what’s more important - vibe is here.
Greetings from Poland, friend!
Krzysztof Szymaszek fajna mesa co? :-)) pozdrowery

No OD, plug-ins, or hush pedal. Props to you for simulating their early tone, straight into a Boogie! To me, the closest simulation I've personally heard on UA-cam.
Eyeballs: Go Lambchopper!
Ears: James.....is that you?
3:02 -3:40. So underated with Kirk's riff before the solo. Wish they played that part still...
Ryan1831 it’s a tragedy that they don’t. Great part of the song. What they do live now is cheesy AF.
thank you I totally forgot this part !
Don’t they tho?? James is playing that under kirks part before the solo. It’s in the song and they play it live. It’s under the part that Kirk is playing before the solo.
@@HassHeater33 nah they stopped playing it after release of DM. There's footage of them playing around 06' where they include it. For a while it's been, "are you alive? How does it feel to be alive? Show me!" Then straight into the solo...
@@Ryan-eighty-six absolutly right
Your tone and technique are awesome! Your chugging is 10X better than I can right now. Carpal tunnel has put a real damper on my playing. Kudos!!!
8:05 - 8:15 That down picking of Sanitarium - my hand is burning watching it.
It’s not that hard lol

Sounds pretty close to me. Very unique, dry, gritty sound compared to something British like Iron Maiden which is more colorful. Love it.
The tone almost sounds wooden to me if that makes any sense to anyone 😂. It’s fuckin awesome though
You already know, it was the layered tracks of different amps/settings that made the sound of every Metallica album, post Lighting, so destructive.
Not to mention post processing, and mastering.
Your effort, and your playing is commendable, and it is always fun to hear someone attempt to simulate the recorded tone of a classic.
You have a great ear.
yeesss i could not stop watching the justice tone vid, so happy you uploaded this 🙌🏽 incredible video mate
Just bought a Mesa mark v 25 because of this video!
Quality as always Chopper
I’ve been following you for years now and you never disappoint with your jamming and sound checks! Killer mate!
Wasn't expecting this dude go through the full album \m/
Your tone is really really good! Love listening to these shows!
Wow...that sounds SHOCKINGLY good. And your playing is stellar as well sir, mad props on a job well done!!!
That was impressive, solid play and sound.
Awesome man. Sounds incredible. Your playing is great as well.
Some damn solid chugging there- great video! I need to go back and get to grips with some of these riffs again!
That’s a great tone - your playing is really tight which really makes it pop.
Freaking awesome!!!
Thanks for killing it!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Wow, that's a chuggy tone. The main thing I like from this tone is that is not that chunky and has a nice amount of high mids while obliterating mids, giving that sparky, bright and spiky sound. It's not a meaty, mid range sound like the one in the Black Album or in RTL, but rather a very metalish sound. Which gives space for the bass to be fat and full of sound.
Exactly. It's the high mids
Not EMGs. All the kids think James recorded Master of Puppets with EMGs, but nope.
@@Juicexlx I think they started with EMGs and active pickups in general with AJFA.
@@Juicexlx He used Invaders loaded on a Jackson V if I'm not mistaken.
A little low on the gain maybe he has it set that way though
Absolutely awesome mate. Really inspiring me to get myself a mesa.
Jesus Christ this amp should go in a museum for the worlds most mysterious sound cuz my god it sounds magical
That sounds amazing, great tone!
ok got it. well sir i do appreciate it. it is nice to hear a cab with a mic up to it as a lot of you tubers are doing the cab simulater thing so us old schoolers love hearing a REAL amp with a REAL mic as i feel like that art is fading away...keep up the great work.
You play like a pro and the sound is so f***king awesome!!!
Nice one Chop, sounds awesome
Awesome work. Greetings from Greece 🤘
the eq is so useful. Good stuff!
Awesome tone and awesome playing man
Mark V is a killer amp, nice job running through some sick riffage!
Sounds great!! My favorite era of them aswell
Awesome as always.
Great tone great playing! Cheers!
Great playing, great Rhoads, great amp!
Thanks for showing the amp sounds. I own a Mk III and struggle to dial in a Mk IIC+ tone.
I’ve been waiting for this
Oh, it Masters alright! Killer riffing brother
This is absolutely killer man! Well done.
Petrucci says you have to only breathe on those controls to do big changes so apparently its an issue.
Awesome job man!!!! So close...
Damn close! Outstanding!👍🏻
Fantastic playing!!!
Ur child is so lucky having a good guitarist dad
Sounds great!
Yeah great clean sound and talented riffing as usual mate. I’m struggling to get a good tone with my Carvin V3 and quad. Still love your AxeFX.
Thank you for the video I bought a Mesa Mark V and a DSL 20 because of your videos. Awesome amps! I heard there is new Diezel VH mini at NAMM in super curious about it. Thanks again!
Man I had one of these years ago. I wasnt very good with amps and tone etc at time. I returned it because I felt I couldnt get enough gain. Wish i didnt. Love your channel. Keep it up man. I'm thinking of buying an Axe Fx 2 XL. You should do a video on Axe Fx, Kemper, or Helix(Pedal or Native).
04:10 you need palm-muted low E's between chords in that classic riff.
and almost the entire album is DOWNPICKED too, brutal my hands ache after playing it
Your playing is on point man
Great video! ✌️
Ideal downstroke! Very nice!
Darn it. I was hoping that you were going to play the opening solo for Sanitarium. That's one of my favorite solos of all time.
Such a badass tone, i wish i had the chance to jam with you, your playng is sick!
he is really good
Pretty nice tone, and pretty nice riffing there!
awesome video brother... Love all the Metallica playing!.... You have some awesome amps too man....like to here you play Metallica thru the evh amp!
Hell yeah, sounds pretty good to me!
Really really cool
Damn. You nailed it
A+ sounds great man
I used to have a Mark V 90 combo that was glorious. I sold it to help pay for an engagement ring to my now wife of 8 years. Now I’ve got a pretty good collection of gear but mostly British amps. Those never quite scratch that Mesa itch though, and with so much gear I could never justify the purchase of another Mark V 90. Last year I found a good deal on a used Mini Rectifier and took it. I’ve kind of enjoyed it, but I spend way too much time fiddling with the knobs trying to dial it in and am never fully satisfied. I’m always trying to make it sound more like a Mark. After watching this video I’m buying a Mark Five 25. Thank you, sir.
Great Job!
Spot on mate!
Nailed it!
i thought i read somewhere that they tracked 4 rythym guitars using mesa, marshall and some other amps to help shape there tone. great video and never stop chasing your tone.
For sure, this was more aimed at putting a mic in front of a mk V and see how close it gets. I didn’t compress, eq or alter the recording in any way. It’s just to help people understand what to expect straight out of the box. I went all out trying to replicate the tone on a battery cover a few months ago and people accused me of ripping the audio from the original
Couldn't possibly get it any closer 🤟
Just got my Mark V25. Going to use these settings for initial break-in procedures...
Sounds perfect to me. Are you going to try recording with multiple tracks layered? With bass? I think it would be spot on.
thanks for this video....just bought one.....
🤘carry on
Love your playing and Bias presets... p.s Fleming said he actually hated the 2c boogie sound, and not only was there an EQ on the amp, but one external and two in the control room
I need this amp now....
If you’re in the USA and wanna buy one, dm me
@@allendean9807 how much $ would you sell it for?
1,400.00
Original box, tags, cables, less that 30 hours of tube time.
TLS Music Production that’s a steal
Mesa Boogie is one of kind amplifier. Very unique Chuggy sound .. old British Marshalls used to sound closer to this but the bridge pickup has to powerful too.. I could only imagine with some hetfield's EMG pickup..sounds great though!!
Nice!
Excelente, metralla pura en manos del experto!!
Pretty sweet.
This is a perfect example of when it sounds studio perfect in person and it sounds off when recorded & uploaded, Ive uploaded a similar video. But spot on for a raw amp recording!
Agree 100%. Seems totally plausible that this was the tone from the amps before they were double tracked, panned and processed in the studio.
The “chug” on MOP is so unique.
super accurate play thank you 3:06 it is beautifull !! (I forgot this riff :) )
Battery middle section
Good enough !
Sounds great! I wonder what a tube screamer or fortin grind in front would sound like?
Im trying to chase the tone Cliff had on ride the lightning right now I'm on a tight budget until over here in the US our second stimulus check comes right now I'm getting a Dunlop crybaby with my $65 I got in my pocket then I'm getting a Bass big muff, tube screamer mini and a Boss compression sustainer probably might upgrade to a Fender rumble 40 even though I got a behringer 15 watt guitar amp I use as my bass amp due to the limited effects it has I use high gain settings to play bass solos and Lemmy's riffs
I didnt even know about some of those battery riffs lol
Good job
Sounds good! I have a Mark V 25 and absolutely love it. Now I'm thinking of getting a mini recto, do you recommend it?
I want to get the Mark V 25 combo as a grab-n-go powerhouse! No pedals needed.
Luc Wilson the only thing I’d be scared of with the 25 combo is the 1x10 speaker, I feel like it wouldn’t be enough but ya never know. I’m def getting the 35w combo instead though. Good luck on your tone journey my friend :)
can you do an exodus or a early overkill tone video would be awesome
Wiked bud !!!
Anthony #1, as usual!
Hey lamb, nice cover this amp absolutely master the puppets :) I juste wanted to ask you a question : i see you are doing a nice pretty middle finger to the crowd when you do power chords an i have the same « problem » as you so do you know a way to atenuate it please ?
Indeed it does :)
Papa Lamb😎
Sounds close, but almost sounds like the wrong speaker is being used. Weren’t they using Marshall cabs for this, and as standard they wouldn’t have had v30’s. If there’s one in your Mesa cab, that could be causing quite a difference.
I finally broke the bank and got one of these and a recto 1x12
Get the oversized 4x12, thank me later
I think it sounded very close and part of it is your playing. Nice job!
Awesome job! I've had a Mark V 25 since they came out, but it occurs to me I've never tried to dial in a specific MoP tone, just a nice round crunch tone in general.
Did you attempt the rhythm tones on the IIc+ mode before going to the crunch channel? One would think the IIc+ channel would also be a good starting point, given that's what James had in his aresenal at the time. I agree this thing can be very finicky to dial in!
In one of his other videos he says something about the IIc+ mode being the lead channel from that amp and he likes the crunch mode of channel one better. He did do a video of this amp where he tries to dial Justice tone in on the IIc+ channel and it sounds pretty good but the crunch mode may be just a little better at it. I know at least one of those videos is newer than this one.
Sounds mean as fuck! Nice playing and tone, dude! \m/
Yes, it does, but with nuances. You can put the mic as "cap 0 inches" - in front of speaker.
But damn sounds good great job
Wow, you nailed it! Can you get a good lead tone from the mark v25 as well? Or do i need like 10 pedals for it?
In Ola's video he said something about running the II-c+ through the effects loop of a modified jcm800...i've wondered about doing that with your mesa and marshall (or one of the jcm800 studios...but i have a hard time spending the $ when a dsl is so inexpensive) great video. I really enjoy your content!
I know they had the mismatched preamp and power amp in the studio but it’s a little pointless using the two different heads in this case as I don’t have the rest of the gear in the chain to complete the signal. The main piece to the puzzle is the B&B aphex eqf-2. Without that you can only get so far. The small difference a power amp makes is pretty insignificant for my budget setup.
@@LambChopper678 o ok. Well i think you've got an awesome setup, and appreciate what you do with it!
thats damn close to my ear... its a killer amp...
