Post-Punk is a subgenre of Alternative that started the very broad Alternative genre (new wave, goth, shoegaze, indie folk, indie rock, indie pop, neo-psychedelia, dream pop, electronica, brit pop, industrial...Harder to define bands like Radiohead, can safely be defined as Alternative).
They used to have great tv shows which showcased bands in the uk. Shows like The Old Grey Whistle Test. I’d love to see Dave react to Humble Pie singing Black Coffee from The Old Grey Whistle Test
Thanks both of you for putting light on Joy Division. The music combined with Ian Curtis voice is haunting, dark and fascinating and his dance moves are iconic..
Joy Division were amazing, their influence on bands to this day can't be underestimated. Listen to the Editors album, The Back Room and you'll hear that in bucket loads.
Post-punk greats: GANG OF FOUR: damaged goods, i love a man in a uniform THE CURE: so what, grinding halt, a forest, boys don't cry BAUHAUS: sanity assassin, bela lugosi's dead (9min), she's in partiess ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN: heaven up here, porcupine, show of strength (anything from 1984's Live from Royal Albert Hall) Along with TELEVISION which you mentioned.
There's a great movie, about the rise and fall of Factory records, called 24hr Party People. Its well worth checking out! The Sex Pistols gig you talk about, I think it was there first ever, with a dozen people there.
And thank you very much, sir. Without going into the details, Joy Division are still influential to a lot of the troubled kids that are making the music of the future. "New Dawn Fades" probably is their post punk anthem.
RIP Ian Curtis. You should try to find the film Control which is about Ian Curtis and is very good and for Joy Division fans very emotional as Ian Curtis was a tormented genius being plagued by epilepsy.
There was a period of time when the presenters vibe was "We're too cool to be on television, but we're on television"! The Unknown Pleasures album cover is iconic ... I dislike that word, but it is!
post punk.hmm sort of ,if you look up the manchester june 4th 1976 sex pistols gig. lotsssssss of bands formed after that gig.its a pivotal moment in uk music.
I know they influenced The Killers. They used to cover this song live. Brandon Flowers has sang on stage with New Order a few times, and of course, The Killers band name came from a fictional band playing in a New Order music video.
Yes I know they have been a big influence in the alternative scene. But always when i see them perform it just don’t feels like a band that is working together imo I do prefer the cover of The Killers that they did on their album Sawdust … would be cool if Dave checked out that one too
Stephen Colbert to Keanu Reeves "You only get to listen to one song for the rest of your life, what is it?" Keanu Reeves reply "Joy Division Love Will Tear Us Apart" Now that's a fair old accolade!
I don't like punk for the most part but this seemed more like alt rock and had a cool vibe. Dave has really dug the cuts I've sent over from DGM. So, Here's another insane, high voltage all-cylinders blasting cut from DGM. (Crazy keyboards, guitar solo-ing, drums and of course vocals) I don't know what these guys are on, but whatever it is, it's making them totally rock at a crazy level. This tune is, To The Core ua-cam.com/video/0TheI-aDefs/v-deo.html
you be surprised they did not like the way the band was going it was the producers fault , i wont say more as it is complex ,but if you look on joy division documentary , you will get the facts The lead singer suffered from epilepsy and had suffered while he was still in the band and collapse on the stage.

Agreed, such a good film
100%. It's not an easy watch but such a good film. Ian Curtis was a genius.
Cool song. Never heard this one. I’m really not familiar with any of their stuff but this was great. Thanks guys.
