The College Of Winterhold storyline should’ve been centered around Shalidor (specifically around locating and studying his writings to gain powerful Magic).
I would have liked to see it involve trying to get the people of Winterhold to respect them again. I also wished they called us "Clevermen" like they do in the lore.
I think the college is a big missed opportunity over all. It would have been so much better if we got to learn more about why Skyrim hated magic so much and got a chance to try and prove them wrong, all while learning more about the ancient nord mages and what it meant to be a "cleaverman", which is a bad-ass name that I wished more people called you during the game.
There was a book in Skyrim called a Minor Maze, which includes the only known instruction for Labyrinthian. Enter twice, exit only once. Alteration will lead you to Destruction. Only Illusion shows the way to Restoration. Conjure not, but be conjured instead. Considering that Shalidor was the one that created labyrinthian and those instructions refer to the schools of magic as we know it except for mysticism, I think it's likely that Shalidor did create classification of magic schools, which Galerion later popularized.
They acquired it in response to The Oblivion Crisis (which hit Skyrim harder then any of the other Provinces aside from Cyrodiil) and The Collapse of Winterhold (which many people believe the College caused).
based Burgundian they’ve seen Magic as “dishonorable” for a while (it’s just a Warrior’s Pride making them think the only way to be strong is with a weapon it’s the same with Redguards) but the full blown hatred of Magic and all who use it started with The Oblivion Crisis and hit it’s peak with the Collapse of Winterhold.
The Skyrim conceptual artwork created by Adam Adamowikz shows that the ancient atmorans used mages to levitate monolithic rocks moved by workers to build their massive cities and temples.
Good video 👍. But I have a question, Why he has a beard in ESO? His statue in the College of Whinterhold is clean shaven. And also why he isn't in Sovengard during the events of Skyrim? If I am not mistaken he had an honorable death fighting the dwemer Rourken clan.
Thank you for another great lore video! Any chance of some videos on the lesser known elven deities soon? What's the story behind the ascension of the ones originally mortal?
I also agree with the pretty young lady named kale j if I pronounce that wrong I apologize I also like theory around magic this was a great video very interesting there's mods that you can do for the college Winter hold but I digress Skyrim in general is good as the game is it could have been done so much better but the modern community does wonders after all they really should do a movie about tamriel or Skyrim or you know anything like that that would be amazing great video The mysteries of the arcane can always captivate and intrigue there is a majesty and a Grace and I always a subtle soft mystery to magic It truly is wonderful
i love how the daedric prince of madness treats shalidor as a dumb guy wich from my point of view is, compared to the prince of course, but yes, to me shalidor is an exeptional human but his power cannot be compared to a deadric prince, not even his intelligence even if shalidor believes he is smarter than shagorath.. by playing the game i wished i could help shalidor to become stronger so i choosed to have one book instead of saving the girl but only as a way to oppose the power of the daedra, i mean, to give more power to shalidor so i we can face daedra more effectively on the future.
Thank you for the video. Nords hate magic because their enemies - the mer used magic against them and "obsessed" over it. Then what do we find when it comes to evil characters? Just about most if not all of them excel at magicka in some way or have a second in command who does. Tharn family who continue to plague the Empire throughout the ages were great at magic, Mannimarco and necromancers are the dark magic folk who desecrate bodies and destroy anything morally good. Witches and hags throughout Skyrim plague the wilds, spriggans who aren't necessarily evil also attack travelers with magic and are a worse threat to hunters than bears. Dragon Priests ruled over men maliciously with magicka bestowed by the dragons who also excel at magicka. Then to put the nail in the coffin with Winterhold getting swallowed up by the sea of ghosts and yet the college of winterhold remains pristine. Of course they would assume they had something to do with it. As archmage, when you near sovngarde, Tsun even states great nords throughout time also utilized magicka even though the whole premise is hated.
Most nords use and look up to mágic, yesgamore used mágic and so did ulfric. The nords look up to the voice and throughout history have used the thuum. The thuum being tonal mágic, of cource being magic.

Shame there wasn't more to the College of Winterhold in Skyrim, I love lore around mages. Brilliant video
There's a really good mod that fleshes put the College, forget what it's called
@@KriticalKoitus I actually don't have many mods, but thanks for the idea, I'll look into it

Shalidor be telling The Rourken Clan "Come at me bro!"

I always wondered when Nords acquired their current distaste for magick, in the First amd Merethic Eras they had plenty of powerful mages.

@@lonestarwolfentertainment7184 what about the gaulder brothers? I think that had something to do with it?
LoneStarWolf Entertainment they had it in Morrowind too so it was earlier than that.

Your vast knowledge on the elder scrolls makes a fiction world feel real which is why I love the franchise thank you
i just got the Eye of Shalidor tatoos in ESO. they are pretty cool. thanks for the video!
Created Winterhold with a whisper... tonal architecture?
Could be, perhaps....
We are talking about Nord here there is no way archmage shalidor would use something as lame as some elf sound magic he would use shout instead
My dude is back with the TES Lore videos! You just love to see it lol.
Was I ever gone? Im a bit busy juggling two studies atm but I still try to do every week or every two weeks if i have a very busy week like last week
I dont want to rush videos out every week if I dont have the time to properly research
@@ImperialKnowledge we appreciate it, you do great work with these videos
Awesome video!
Hope you feel better now, Zork, great video as always! Clever men of the Nords are always fun characters, always in some way eccentric, too.
Nice video zork, keep it up bruv

Could be cultural. In Greek Myth, Zeus was clean shaven. The bearded, wizard looking Zeus is a Roman invention.
He is in Sovngarde actually. He walks around in the Hall of Valor
he told it in the video, he survived the battle with the dwemer
Love to have a new video
