Giving myself permission to have blank pages has been the biggest help this year. There have been times in the past where I would miss filling out some things and feel like I would have go back and retroactively fill it out. Which would then stress me out, which would mean I wouldn't want to look at my planner, which would then lead to not filling out more... and it would repeat. Letting myself say, "Hey, you've have a bad mental week, it's ok. Just put big X on the page in washi tape and move on to the next page is fine" That has really helped me
Such a great example of giving grace & permission to yourself when it comes to your planner!
Thanks Annie! I've been stuck all month and overwhelmed by the massive options I have because of jumping on too many bandwagons. I sat down last night and narrowed down my system to Hobinichi Mega Weeks, must have something dated and available to note appointments; Stalogy A5 for personal journaling; Kinbor A5 for health journal, my doctor doesn't need to see washi tape and recipes, Kinbor A5 for work planner, don't want work tasks distracting me on off hours. When I don't feel creative and just need to be productive, the Weeks is invaluable.
Mind maps don’t quite work for me, I think it’s a layout issue. I’m intrigued by them, I really appreciate seeing others, but the messiness of my own gets in the way for me. But as a list-maker I have 2 alternatives that I often resort to. The first is a simple pro/con list; it often helps me decide not just whether or not I should be doing something but more importantly, explore why or why not. The second is mind-map-“ish” - I get a pile of papers and start brainstorming the categories onto 1 sheet per category. Discover a new category? Grab a new sheet. It works with my list maker tendencies, and gives me space to go deeper. Thanks for providing some food for thought.
Love this!
I thought I was the only one who did this!
I want to thank you for your videos. They are very informative and not just show. I love that your planners are not “perfect” and that you encourage imperfection.
I pre-ordered an undated version of one that'll work for me, but it'll be March until it comes. In the meantime, I'll make it work.
Great informative video!! 👏 Tyfs...☺️🙏
8 months in, I'm sick of my academic year planner, but continuing to chug along. IEP season is coming and I need all my mom notes and observations. I can't wait to choose my 2023-24 planner in a few months!
I loved my 2022 planner and hate my 2023. Thank you for the great suggestions to try. Especially having a time out and re-group on plain paper
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Very helpful. 😊
🤣🤣🤣 I just ordered new replacement inserts for the year! I used blank daily one page inserts for Jan and discovered daily was too microscopic, i was getting claustrophobic! I ordered plain as possible dated vertical inserts from an Etsy shop and I can breathe again! The blank dailies i will keep for those days I need to detail research or something.
Excellent advice! This year - I’m dealing with ink bleed-through using the same notebook and pen as before. Apparently the paper is thinner this year in my usual graph composition notebook. So, I’m using a little eraser tape here and there. It’s irritating. I haven’t fully set-up my planner because of it - and because of a lot of other issues.
I may find another notebook and start over. I can add my January pages to a new notebook. But, I’ll likely embrace this notebook and use it all year. I’ve dealt with ink bleed thru before.
I'm in a planner situation. I can't decide, so I'm definitely going to map it out. I spent today in a B6 stalogy setting up some pages. I'm going to use it this week and see how it works for me. Some weeks I need daily pages and some weeks I need both weekly and daily. I normally use a TN but then I'm taking inserts in and out. So, we will see how a bound book works for me. I might go back to a TN but use a grid insert and create what I need each week or day.
I have definitely been in a "planner situation" before! 🤣 Mapping out your needs should help. And I find a bound book great for the flexibility to switch things up week to week based on what I need.
I don’t hate my planner but my problem is that my system works but I am sad that the planner I want to use doesn’t work 😩 I have tried to figure it out but no matter how much I want it to work it never last more than a couple days, I just don’t like it.
I hate it when this happens. Maybe just set it aside for a while and know that it is ready to use when it is needed in your system.
I got my first hobonichi weeks and am scared fo use it! I don't know if its the blank page or how small it is and I have bigger handwriting. I keep seeing everyone's lovely unique setups and I feel overwhelmed , like I can't do that!
Is there a week in the planner that has already passend and you didn't fill out? You could just draw/paint/ put some stickers/whatever/ scribble/write a poem in there and get a first filled page this way.
Your planner doesn't have to look pretty, especially not a "pretty" that someone else defines. It is totally fine if you just use it with one single pen to accomplish your to dos. And as long as you and yourself can read what you've written, your handwriting is pretty enough. 💚 It is your planner, just you alone have to look at it and use it. If you want to go for "more" or "prettier" you still can evolve over time. Don't stress out on something that is supposed to help you have less stress.
Good luck in finding your way. 🍀
