Great pick ups Dave! I can’t believe that Meat is Murder was $10! Looking forward to that VCLT - I just sampled it and it’s right up my alley. Too bad I couldn’t make it, but hopefully next year. In the meantime, come up to the Burgh and hang out!
It’s a great feeling when you’ve hit all the big hitters early and can relax for the rest of any record show. Hearing your enthusiasm for those records on day one in person, and again on this video, is EXACTLY why this hobby is still fun. That Blind Blake in particular is crazy interesting to me. Hopefully you found the solve for your bouts of illness lately. Getting older sucks.
Dave that Gilberto Gil damn a major want you and Dom scored a copy love that Phillips label. Awesome Bill Dixon and Archie Shepp on the savoy label those wall you showed blew me away. You definitely have to bring a nice sum of cash you could go bankrupt there . wFMU Fair looks like it didn’t disappoint all killer no filler .
The Gilberto Gil was a highlight and happy you nabbed it. I ended up getting a different copy from Mr. Bongo who had those other Brazilian lps I grabbed. Package deal! Glad you got one amazing day in.
Hey Dave. Looks like you scored at wfmu. Bummer you weren’t feeling well. I sampled that Jennifer Lara it’s fantastic. Espresso 2222 is an absolute classic. I hope you enjoy those records. The electronic classical record or whatever it is has a Radiohead sample which is why I grabbed it. It just didn’t end up being my cup of tea I figured something more up your alley. I hope you are doing well. Cheers!
Dave, the album title, ''Where Fortune Smiles'' applies to your trip to the WFMU record fair and your other new acquisitions. The ''Awakening'' story was the best, I'm glad Steve likes the album too. I see that they do a Smokey Robinson song, love that guy. Strange, I just listened to Badawi's ''Heretic of Ether'' earlier today. I got the promo cd, when it came out, in 1999. I have not played it since 2002 or 2003. The Asphodel label folded in 2011, grab anything on that imprint, their roster of artists is amazing. Get some rest, that's an order!
It was great to have the chance to talk to you, Dave. I was the "tall guy" you met with Lawrence at the fair. You had quite a haul. Glad to hear you're feeling better.
Tom, please read my comment on Dom's WFMU video, my intuition always serves me well. If I ever travel through Bristol, Connecticut, I'm gonna stop and implant a tracking device on your ass, or just give you a hug!
I saw Steve Carlson going to the Day of the Dead celebration in Denver, but I didn't know that you were the instigator. I have Paul Lansky on several releases, he has some nice piano and electronics compositions. He even provides a sample for Radiohead - Kid A.
The Wall! Nothing is more dangerous than, The Wall! Congrats on what you found Dave. At least you and I would not be fighting for a lot of the same albums haha. Love the excitement you had at the record show. Maybe someday. $125 for a round trip ticket, wow
