These tyres were so heroically grippy in the dry, that I fitted another set for road-use. Noisy again, but massive fun.
Good review I'm sold
I drive a heavily mapped 2.2tdci Smax with NS2Rs fitted on 17" wheels. I never do track days. Why? Probably because I'm a bit of a fool, but I love the way they look, and given that I had to fit 45 profile instead of 50, it feels amazingly different from behind the wheel, a lot like I'd put harder springs and dampers in.
I'd mention that I switch to winter tires on the front for winter months as they're not great in cold and damp conditions, pretty slidey - but I will now always run NS2Rs as my summer tire. Massive increase in steering sharpness and weight, and grip in the dry once you've got a bit of heat in them is awesome. If you're an enthusiastic driver, and for the money, I'd definitely say go for it 😁
Looking at taking a pair of these to my first ever trackday at Snetterton for the rear of my e46 330d. I'll do a few laps on the worn tyres that are on the car first then try these on the road after. The Firestone Roadhawks I have are hopeless in the wet so these can't be a lot worse. Car is a totally stock coupe, not sure I want to mess with it too much yet.
I noticed you said 24psi, is that due to the heat and pressure increase when on the track? What tyre pressure do you use on the rear also? I run 28 psi front and 30 psi rear on my car atm I have just some crappy Pirelli tyres atm but have just got a set of Ns2r’s and wonder what sort of pressure difference there is when they are hot?
would this make a good tire for street use? I have a 1970 2002 for spirited driving and all the tires on size R13 185 60 are either street vintage rubbish or full-on racing compounds. I wish i could get something like a Michelin pilot super sport but unfortunately thats not an option so. Would this do the trick? not looking to do track days, just spirited mountain driving...
How do you find the road noise? I’ve been running these for 1 year on my Giulietta - the dry grip is fantastic, wet is good too. But the whirring noise from them is loud, it sounds like worn wheel bearings. Did you find the same?
Alfa_Driver the road noise was horrendous. I thought both rear wheel bearings were gone. They actually were but after I had them done it was still a hell of a drone from them 😅
MR STEVE That’s what I’m finding now! The noise is so loud now to the point I’m concerned about bearings or buckled wheels. Today I took off my 17” wheels running NS-2R and fitted my spare 16” wheels which have Bridgestones. I removed the rears first and the whirring noise reduced about 50%. Then I removed the fronts and the whirring and vibration went completely. So I guess the noise is primarily caused by the tyres, and potentially one of my fronts might be buckled or imbalanced causing the vibration.
Having said this, the NS-2Rs have been surprisingly hard-wearing (street 180 compound). The car has done 7k hard miles on twisty Welsh roads since fitted and still have 3mm front / 5mm rear. The dry grip is supreme and in a FF car very progressive. I’d get them again but the noise is a bit too annoying TBH.
I agree the noise was bad. I drove the car on them for 2 years. I drove it from South Wales to many a circuit to compete and the noise did my head in. The trip to snetterton was a nightmare the noise started to grate on me
Hello! I need some suggestion from u guys, I’m considering to buy a set of Used ns2r, but the problem is, 1st; they are of 2013 date, 2nd; they r very hard. I haven’t fit them yet but by pressing them they felt very hard.
Please guide me, whether I buy them or not? Why they r so hard?? as they look brand new in condition, like 500km to 100km driven.
(Not sure about the noise as I haven’t fit them yet)
I’m considering them for my daily driver(Not for track purpose)
Wheels spec: 17x9.5j
Tyre profile: 215/45/17 91w, tread wear 180(don’t know what it is)
24psi is much lower than road spec; is that normal for track usage? looking to put these on my 350z project car i recently decided to do... TIA
ShinjukuSensei that was the best psi for the circuit at the time
Once on the road they would be 31-33 but on the circuit they needed to be dropped right down ☺️
Mr Stev3 thanks man. Good to know. I'll keep an eye out when I'm next in track
R888r review now up folks
How many miles have you driven them?
Andrea 2 sprints , multiple track days, I’ll double check the mileage
