@@mmtoolparts Do I have to buy all 3 parts listed in your store for DWS 782? There are the light itself (which I definitely have to get), then the power supply and handle set.
Just finished installing the kit. Just a few comments to help others. First, though they say you can connect the black wire to either screw on the trigger switch, this isn't correct. You must connect it to the top screw. The bottom screw only has power when the blade is spinning. Second, there is no need to swap out the bottom half of the handle as they instruct you to do in the video. The original and the one supplied are identical, and the new top half fits the old bottom half perfectly. Third, the crimp-on connector for the white wires did not grab both wires sufficiently, and was an electrical fault waiting to happen. Have an extra connector on hand in case yours fails too. I ended up having to solder the failed connector onto the two white wires, as I didn't have a spare.
We appreciate your thoughtful response and clarification! You are correct about all three points, the top screw should be used and the bottom handle assembly is identical - we showed how to replace it since it comes with the kit. When crimping you do want to be careful and take your time. We recommend using a crimping tool on wire strippers rather than regular pliers to get a tight, solid connection. Thanks again for the helpful feedback!
I just went through the same thing. The connector did have trouble even with my crimping tool. The problem is that the smaller wire needs to be longer in order to wrap around the bigger wire. Had to insert the smaller wire from front and re-crimp again but it did work afterwards. Did not realize that I had to connect to top black but that was what I did. Overall, it was easy and quick to do. Thanks to the video and this more detailed comment.
+ 1 on not changing out bottom handle. Also, if you don't wan't to void your warrenty: twist (tightly) an inch and a half or so of the supplied white wire in kit and slide it under the clear plastic boot connector (from behind oem male connector)and sandwich the wire in the corner of the oem female connector...reconnect oem connectors.... Boom: Reversible if you ever need to send in for warranty work.
Is there anything wrong, electrically, with putting the black wire on the bottom screw if I want the light to turn on automatically when I begin the cut? I don't care that the light is off before I begin making the cut.
Got my XPS kit from you in the mail today, put it in before dinner in 25 minutes. A bit tedious fitting the wires into the handle precisely. But, really very easy overal with your companion video. The $5.00 wire harness saves a lot of work, and $70.00 bucks total was well worth the price! XPS Shadow technology? Who the heck would want a laser beam after XPS? It's 100% precise on first & every try. Nice to convert my brand new $350.00 DeWalt DWS779 into nearly a DWS780 that costs $600.00! Yippee. Thanks again for the great video.
Thanks mmtoolparts! I just installed the light on my dsw779 and it works flawlessly! As stated above the lower part of the handle doesn't need to be removed. It's the same part number as the one sent in the kit. Also thanks to the previous comments I kept my warranty safe by stripping back the white wire from the wire harness provided in the mmtoolparts kit and simple wedged it between the factory white connectors. It made for a quick and flawless install. Whole install takes about 10 minutes taking your time, but will cut hours off your labor. You will not regret this purchase, it's like having a whole new saw. Highly recommend!
Just installed and it’s great! The current wiring harness doesn’t need splicing as it has dual connector. Also didn’t need to remove/replace bottom handle part as noted above. Only minor issue is getting all the wires to lay flat but just takes a little patience to make sure no pinched wires. Highly recommend!
Terrific instructions, installed easy following them and pausing. Allow 30 minutes, only hook black wire to top lug on switch, take a pic with your phone of wire routing before removing old bottom half of handle. After installing new bottom handle make sure it’s set flush on saw base. I realized mine was slightly crooked after installing top handle. Look underneath it, adjust and then tighten the one screw that’s holding it on. Thanks again to M&M Tool and Machinery.

I just installed the DWS779 XPS Light Upgraded Kit from MM ToolParts and it only took 10-15 minutes to finish the installation. There is a positive upgrade to the instructions included in this video...the white wire no longer has to be spliced as the kit includes a push in fitting for both sides. So, installation was even easier that described in the video. High quality kit, at a fair price...don't hesitate to order this!
Installed this kit on my DeWalt miter saw today. Easy to understand instructions and not too complicated. I like the shadow line on my miter saw now! I used it plenty of times while installing hardwood flooring in two of our bedrooms. Thank you!
I found the light upgrade especially useful when cutting a 5" piece of hardwood flooring vertically against the fence. The shadow line was displayed perfectly the entire width of the board. I did this when I only wanted to cut partially through the board's width.
This was the best demo I found on the internet for adding the light to DWS 779. Very precise, to the point easy to follow instruction that even I could understand as a layman. Great job man--you need a raise. Pictures were clear, presentation was classic. Wonderful. TCThomas
Thank you mmtoolparts! The wait for the new light kits to come in was worth it. I recently purchased the DWS779 (now DWS780) and just finished installing the light kit, what a difference! The light shines down showing me exactly where the cut will be. I read some of the reviews below and saved some time by not replacing the bottom part of the handle. Instructions were crisp and clear; I used my wire cutters with crimper and everything worked fine. What a cost savings too; when you look on Amazon the difference between the DWS779 and DWS780 is $159.68, tax included.
Thank you for your update Mitchell! We were truly sorry for your wait. The demand for these upgrade kits was much more than we ever could have imagined. We cleaned Dewalt out of all their inventory. They had to make more for us! We've got stock now so all is well with the universe again. Have a great new year!
Great OEM addition to my DWS779. Easy install. As mentioned in other comment. Black wire to TOP switch screw. The wire harness a must. No need to remove bottom handle. Fair price for a great product. Cuts will be much better. Now have effectively a DWS780 at a $180 discount (paid $340 for DWS779 + $80 for these mods w/ shipping. DWS 780 is $600).
Great instructions! Wonderful add-on! Two little details though: 1. Make sure you cut the white wire with the female adapter end, because that is the adapter they send to you. I followed him in location only and cut the wrong wire. Ended up using an In-Sure push-in wire connector, which worked out perfectly. 2. There is ZERO need to replace the bottom handle piece. They are exactly the same thing. But make sure you run the new wires into the bottom’s LED switch location through the little wire guide. Also make sure the connections are placed so they don’t interfere with each other so you can completely screw down the new switch.
Thanks for your comment about the cutting the correct white wire. In my case the male side was toward the blade, like yours, and opposite of the saw in this video.
Just installed my kit. Wish I would of known the bottom handle is the exact same. Could of saved a few bucks. But as the video states. It was literally that simple. no more guessing the kerf of my different blades. Took me about 10 mins to install. took longer to figure out where to route the wires to keep it clean and out of the way. use your head, there are plenty of cutouts in the handle to route the wires. I took my black wire following the red wire. Plenty of wire and didnt cramp the left side of the handle. There is a groove by the switch on the bottom handle. You can take your white and black wire through that for a clean install. Love this kit. Cost $81 shipped to my door. beats paying the extra $200-$250 for the other saw. Glad i ran into this video. was about to take my saw back.
Thanks for your insight C Archer. With much searching we have found that Dewalt doesn't offer a version of the handle that supplies just the top. I also agree that our video should explain better that you don't have to replace the bottom if you don't want to. We do explain it in the comments below the video in UA-cam but expecting everybody to read those comments is unrealistic. I suppose we need to reshoot the video. Thanks again for your post, greatly appreciated. George Merrill
Richard, Thanks for your input... I agree about the bottom half of the handle. Just leave it on. Too bad Dewalt doesn't sell it in halves. We need to figure out some good uses for the unused bottom half.
Just got my kit today and installed. Be careful when pushing the connectors together that you spliced. The factory spade terminal is flimsy and bends easily. This kit works great and shines a nice shadow on the wood. Much better than a laser because you know exactly where the kerf width is going to cut. I had no problems crimping the wires. Crimp tight!
Thank you, MMToolParts! I upgraded my DWS779 tonight. Due to your video and the helpful comments, I had little trouble. Be sure to cut the female end of the white wire, not the male end...oops!
Wow, this just makes my day better. Just picked up a 779 from Home Depot. Someone had used it for a project and the returned it. Because of this, they knocked the price down to $230.00 and threw in a free Diablo 44 tooth blade. Now I can pay the apprx $70 to get this light kit and pretty much have a 780 for half the price! Great vid and many thanks!
If I had known how bad the Dewalt warranty really was if you don't live close to one of their service centers, I would have done this in 2018 when I purchased the saw. When I purchased my 779 it was on sale for like 329 andthe 780 was 599. The kit cost like 80 bucks? So for 10 I got the same saw and this shadow line rocks. Even though I wound up buying the Milwaukee 7 inch miter saw for most of my inside trim jobs this fall, I still use the shadow line a lot since we are mostly restoring million dollar homes and need precise cuts. You cannot tell this is an add on and it functions flawlessly. It took me about 30 minutes to install and that was because I dropped one of my Torx screws and spent a good 10 minutes looking for it lol. Great kit, guys. I commented a while back saying I was buying this when my warranty was up. Well, I did it and could not be happier with your kit, customer service and speed of delivery.
Just finished my kit and very easy. Works great. As other have mentioned you don’t have to remove or change the bottom half of the handle! It’s the same as the one provided in the kit. They don’t mention this in the video but I had to loosen the shroud to get to all the screws. Just my experience.👍👍
Just installed my light kit. Thank you MMtoolparts for this awesome upgrade to my DWS779. My saw is out of warranty but I still prefer not to cut wires, maybe that is just me. The suggestion from JT below was so helpful. Just strip off about an inch of the new white so the bare wire can hair pin into the existing connector. The bend should be all bare wire so the plastic connector can easily reattach with the wire tucked in to one side of the female. It feels super secure and is completely covered by the connector plastic cover. Take photos of the wire paths before you start and don't rush. This was a fun project so enjoy the ride as well as the finished product.
So instead of cutting the OEM female white wire, you cut off an inch or so of the kit's white wire & feed it into one of the two holes in the OEM female connector's end? If I'm understanding that right, did you need to crimp the OEM female connector afterwards, or was just feeding an inch of the kit's wire in there good enough for it to be tightly connected?
This is a quality kit with all the parts I needed to convert my DeWalt 779. Pay attention to the splicing instruction. I cut the male end off the white wire and had to re-wire the connection. Quite an improvement
Nice and easy install. Great upgrade. For those wondering...I did purchase this upgrade kit prior to owning the saw. Waited for the best pricing on the 779 and beat the 780 pricing by over $200...sweet!
Just did mine. Can’t say it took 10 minutes but that’s my fault. After I crumbed the yellow wire connector the wires popped out and I had to finagle them back in which took a bit of time. Other than that and losing a screw (found it as I was putting the screws back in to the handle) it was straightforward and easy. Thank you!
I followed this and converted my DWS779 and love it. I actually like the switch better than the one on my second saw which is a FlexVolt. Great Job! I also just uploaded a video showing how I added a table to my DWX726 rolling stand. I love the combination!
just found your site! I signed up for the newsletter and created an account. I'm all in on the light upgrade for my Dewalt 779 sliding compound miter saw!! Love how the light narrows to show the precise cut location!! No more short cuts after this!!
I just upgraded - your product and instructions worked great!! I recommend updating the video to include comments correcting your statement on the choice of black wires and the needlessness of replacing the bottom cover though. Other than that, perfect... THANKS!!!
Hey Paul, great points. We were just talking this morning about how we could update this video with that information. Thanks for letting us know it worked, so glad you found the video hepful! :)
Just installed my kit from you. The shipping was quick , thanks It works great. I would recommend the wire harness, it's a tight fit in the handle. I soldered the neutral wire to the existing terminal to save space
I ordered the switch about a month ago. I finally found the time to install it this evening. It took about 30 minutes as I worked directly with the video ( and had to round up the Torx bits LOL). THE VIDEO IS EXCELLENT!!! VERY CLEAR CONCISE INSTRUCTIONS. The kit went together perfectly and everything worked the FIRST TIME.... GREAT JOB WITH THE KIT AND THE VIDEO INSTRUCTIONS... THANKS FOR MAKING IT EASY!!!!!!
I just installed my kit. Went fairly easy. Mine is a type 21 and I noticed the male and female connectors are reversed from what is seen in this video. Not a huge deal, but it makes you be creative on how you route wires. I ran my light wire under all the power wires so it can sit in the groove leading to the space under the light switch. That is also where I stuffed the large wire connector. My wires went into the new female crimp connector just fine. I made sure to strip them long enough so they would twist together well and fit into the connector. The screws on my power switch were Phillips, not T-15. Go figure.
In the video it said check your serial number to see if it’s compatible but it doesn’t tell you what to check for. Are we just checking to be sure it’s a 779 model?
Excellent video and very easy to install kit. There have been a few changes to the saw's internals as others have mentioned: you don't need to change out the bottom of the handle and you only need a #20 and #25 torx head. Well worth the 15 minutes it takes to do this.
I bought a Dewalt 779 for a great price, watched this video, bought the kit and successfully installed the XPS light. A few comments. This video is part instructional and in part a sales tool. First of all this young man has small hands and is very dexterous. He has clearly installed a bunch of these kits and makes it look simpler than it is. The routing of the wires is not addressed and it is quite important and fairly difficult. Removing the screws with an impact driver is fine. Installing them with an impact driver, as he quickly does, is not a good idea unless you really want to test the structural integrity of Taiwanese cast metal and plastic. ( May be OK on someone else's saw.) Overall, the kit worked. I have worked on things like this since prehistoric times and it took me about 45 minutes to carefully install. Works fine currently. Hope that it is durable.
James, Thanks for your thoughtful response. Everybody's input helps out greatly. I know what you mean as far as hand dextarity. Things are certainly different for me today vs 20 years ago when I was bullet proof.
I totally agree with the critique of reinstalling the screws with the impact driver. Not only would I prefer use a hand tool for reinstalling the screws, I like to first spin the screw in reverse until it "clicks" into the existing threads, rather than just driving the screw and possibly cutting another set of threads. I've got a kit on order, and I will probably use my T-handle drivers for the entire reassembly AND disassembly.
Yeah I definitely cringed hard when I seen him using an impact driver for this video. Personally I would’ve used a hand driver, and at most a small powered driver.
I just finished doing mine, without this video. Had a few redo's on the wiring. I was able to twist the two white wires together and push into the supplied connector. mmtoolparts, thanks for the wiring harness, it makes a neat job. Just be careful to get the wires in so you don't pinch them. Also you may want to work the screws on the handle a little bit at a time to get the two handle sections together tightly. I made a few cuts and it is easy to get lined up.
Thanks for sharing! So happy it worked out for you, the wiring harness makes it pretty simple but the crimping is probably the hardest part, glad you were able to get it right! Slowly working the handle back on is a good suggestion to make sure everything fits in there just right. Hope you enjoy the XPS light!
Quality video! Just ordered the kit. Thanks for saving me close to $100 compared to the cost of the DWS780. I thought for sure there had to be a kit out there to do this retrofit. Found your video after seeing it mentioned in the DWS779 reviews on amazon and home depot's sites.
I ordered this kit on October 15. My credit card was charged on October 15 but I have not received it yet nor have I been notified that my order is processed and shipped. I have reached out about my order status but no one seems to want to get back to me. Nice!
I am sorry Joe, Dewalt was supposed to get us a restock of the handles over two weeks ago. They are just arriving to us tomorrow 10/24. Dewalt said there was a problem with getting their order filled from their manufacturer. (everybody was out of them) Anyway, we sent emails out to everybody, could you do me a favor and check your junk mail for an email coming from sales@toolsandmachinery.com? I have found that once in a while our emails wind up in customers junk mail. Either way, I'll personally make sure your order goes out as soon as we get those handles in. Please feel free to call me if you have any further questions. George 1-877-583-7278
FYI 4:15 you can't pull off either negative wires, the bottom one doesn't complete the circuit until the switch is pulled. I just installed this and had to pull out my multimeter to check the wiring connections as the light wasn't turning on when I flipped the switch. I wired it to the bottom since I could tuck the wire in better that way running back. My 779 had Philips heads on the trigger switch instead of 15T screws. You don't need to pull the bottom handle assembly out saves a step of having to fiddle with the wires. I was a few days short of getting the new wiring harness with the male-female spade adaptor, it's more compact making it a better design than the one I made.
@@mmtoolparts Maybe think about pinning Rizzo's comment to the top. Definitely would've saved some time to not pull the handle bottom and not have to re-connect the negative to the top screw. Otherwise, not only a great product, but one of the best instructional videos on youtube, brief, complete & easy to follow. You should do a style guide for others.
I wish you showed the positioning of the wires a little more closely in your video. There are premade channels in the handle assembly where the wires need to go. There is also a small slit in the plastic where the switch attaches so the wires from the switch do not get pinched by the switch assembly. It took me closer to 30 minutes to do this upgrade because I had to reroute the wires a couple times before it all made sense. The kit works great though - love it. Thanks!
Did mine today. My notes. The plastic looks the same, but it's not. Use the new plastic. Hardest part is stuffing all the wires into the handle without crushing one. Works great.
Kit came about 5 days after purchase. The instructions in the video, aided by the top comment, were very good. In hindsight after having completing the install I probably should have made a harness like the one Tufelhunden713 describes in his comment in case I am ever in need of warranty work and Dewalt wants to get picky. My biggest takeaway, the shadow line created is a fraction smaller than the kerf of the blade. It's VERY close, but not exact. I'd say it's about 1/32 to 1/64 smaller than the blade. If you line up a mark line with the edge of the shadow it will cut your line off completely. For $80 this is kind of annoying. I never trusted lasers, and now this shadow can't really be used exactly either. It's a good reference, but sort of a waste since you'll have to drop a test cut first anyway. For the price I probably would have skipped it altogether. At least I didn't but the 780 for twice the price.
Thanks J Bondo, Yes thats a great deal from Lowes. Now you have a saw setup that will serve your needs for many years to come. Safe cutting, George Merrill
Hi Gian, if you look in the description of the video you will see that ALL models of the 779 including Type 21 work with this light kit! Hope this helps:)
The link to the new wiring set up didn’t work. Broken link and it said you guys were helping customers. I had to figure out the wiring on my own. 8/11/21
Can you tell me what size the spade connector is on the white wire? It seems like it would be easy to make a very short extension and splice the wiring harness into it instead of cutting off the connector and voiding your warranty.
Thanks I’m get it order crazy it’s 70 here an my saw was 350 an saw with light is 600 that sure is some inflation from tha factory with a small light lol
@@dananderson3877 oh okay. Let me tell you one thing it's definitely worth it. Just make sure there's a sticker on it that has 2019 on it. You don't want one of the saws they've had for over a year in their storage. When i went they had this one that had 2017 on it. Otherwise Dewalt won't uphold their one year warranty if it's too old. I'm making space in my workshop before actually putting it to use. The rolling stand is the main reason i bought it.
I bought the 779 combo at Depot for $350 then returned it for the 779 combo at CPO with no tax and free shipping for $325 then canceled it and bought the 780 when it was on Amazon BF for $300 at least I do not have to do modifications.
Your video starts with saying to look on the top of the arm to see if it’s upgradable. Am I just looking for the model (779) or should it say upgradable?
A better routing for the black switch wire that connects to the top switch screw is to not follow the same path as the existing black wire but come across the top of the switch and dress it along the opposite side of the handle, in this way it won’t get pinched, this means that the black kit wire terminal will be screwed down opposing the existing terminal. Also cutting the wire likely would avoid the warranty, you should include a short 14 ga rubber jacketed stranded (because it will be more flexible) white wire in the kit installed with a male and female quick disconnect terminals already crimped on with the plug’s white wire. That’s the proper way to engineer a mod.
You mention that not all types of DW779 are compatible with the modification though you do not mention here or on the page which type is required. Could you elaborate?
Great question! This work light is compatible with DeWalt's newer saws - DW716 (Type 20); DWS779; DWS780 and DWS782. The installation process will be the same for all of these.
Just followed video step by step... couldn’t be easier! Thanks!
That makes us happy to hear. Thanks for letting us know.

Two little details though:
My order arrived quickly. XPS Light Upgrade works perfect in my DWS779 Type 21. Thank you.
Just installed the kit. Works perfect. I used the existing bottom half of the handle and the new top half was an exact fit. Took about 15 minutes.
Richard, Thanks for your input... I agree about the bottom half of the handle. Just leave it on. Too bad Dewalt doesn't sell it in halves. We need to figure out some good uses for the unused bottom half.
Just installed my light kit, awesome fit, easy assembly! Thankyou for fixing the single issue I had with my saw! 👍
Just did my upgrade. So easy, 10 minutes and I’m in love all over again with this saw. Thanks mmtoolparts!
Thanks for your insight Mike! Greatly appreciated
Yep... Thats how it works. Hope the install went well for you.
Could you email me the name you used on your order so I can push the money back to the right person? george@toolsandmachinery.com
@@mmtoolparts are you sure you are responding to the correct post? I mean I never turn down money, but I think you're looking for someone else
Just finished my kit and very easy. Works great. As other have mentioned you don’t have to remove or change the bottom half of the handle! It’s the same as the one provided in the kit. They don’t mention this in the video but I had to loosen the shroud to get to all the screws. Just my experience.👍👍
Hey Damon, thanks for taking the time to let us know how your install went! We appreciate your business.
Thanks for you comment Erivan
So instead of cutting the OEM female white wire, you cut off an inch or so of the kit's white wire & feed it into one of the two holes in the OEM female connector's end? If I'm understanding that right, did you need to crimp the OEM female connector afterwards, or was just feeding an inch of the kit's wire in there good enough for it to be tightly connected?
You are correct. No crimping necessary.
Wonder where he got that idea from 😉😉
I ordered the kit after watching the video. Just installed while reviewing the video and it was very easy. Thanks for the video.
Hey, we sure appreciate that you took a moment to let us know how the install went for you. Happy cutting with your new DWS779 light kit.
This is a quality kit with all the parts I needed to convert my DeWalt 779. Pay attention to the splicing instruction. I cut the male end off the white wire and had to re-wire the connection. Quite an improvement
Ha, sounds like something I would do. Thank you for the insight Nolan. Best Wishes to you, George Merrill
A no-brainer upgrade. Love that this saves $130. Will be getting this kit!
Just ordered the kit...Can not wait till arrives! In the middle of several projects right now and the light will help greatly.
just found your site! I signed up for the newsletter and created an account. I'm all in on the light upgrade for my Dewalt 779 sliding compound miter saw!! Love how the light narrows to show the precise cut location!! No more short cuts after this!!
Hope all went well with your install
I just upgraded - your product and instructions worked great!!
I recommend updating the video to include comments correcting your statement on the choice of black wires and the needlessness of replacing the bottom cover though. Other than that, perfect... THANKS!!!
Hey Paul, great points. We were just talking this morning about how we could update this video with that information. Thanks for letting us know it worked, so glad you found the video hepful! :)
Just installed the upgrade kit. It went flawless and I'm very excited to start cutting some trim.
Thank you M&M Tool!
Great to hear from you Jack. Thanks for your thoughts!
Just installed my kit from you.
The shipping was quick , thanks
It works great.
I would recommend the wire harness, it's a tight fit in the handle.
I soldered the neutral wire to the existing terminal to save space
Just added the upgrade! It takes 10 minutes. Great product. Thanks peeps!
Happy things went so nice for you
Updated video link is not working
Just installed it. Works great. Took only a few minutes. Did not have to switch out the bottom handle. Used the same one. Saved a step.
Ordered the kit from M&M last night. Looking forward to the upgrade. Very helpful video!
Awesome!! Comment back if you have any questions and let us know how it goes!!
Thanks for checking in Jock. Happy things went well.
Got the kit installed and it works great! Very easy to do and is much better than a laser line.
Glad to hear it went well for you! Thanks for checking back in to let us know!
Installing them with an impact driver, as he quickly does, is not a good idea unless
you really want to test the structural integrity of Taiwanese cast metal and plastic. ( May be OK on someone else's saw.)
Overall, the kit worked.
Just did the install, works great, good direction, good kit. Thanks for making this cheap and easy.
Thanks for the comment Canasianballou! Happy your happy.
I just received my parts and install was a breeze. They worked on my type 22 as well.
@miahtg yes it is
I just contacted them about my Type 22 as well and then saw your comment. Nice to hear that it works with it as well.
5 months later... is there a type 22 version available?
@@mmtoolparts I have fixed a lot of trailer lights with crimp connectors, so it seemed pretty easy
Did this to my saw...easy and makes the saw so much more accurate.
Quality video! Just ordered the kit. Thanks for saving me close to $100 compared to the cost of the DWS780.
I thought for sure there had to be a kit out there to do this retrofit. Found your video after seeing it mentioned in the DWS779 reviews on amazon and home depot's sites.
Oh wow that's great! So happy you found the video helpful, thanks for letting us know!
Great video followed it through and now my 779 identifies as a 780!
Just placed my order. Looking forward to installing this on my brand new DWS779.
Same here
I want to by the DWS779 being its $200 cheaper, do you still have the guide light kit and is it a Dewalt OEM parts! thanks
Did you ever find out if these are OEM (beside the wire harness)?
Is there a new link for the updated video?
Hey Thanks Rizzo for the insight. Safe cutting. George Merrill
So easy! Don’t know why I didn’t do this sooner!
Excellent video. Excellent customer service. M&M tools provided what I need and for 430$ I had a 599$ saw. Thank you mandm tool
Links to upgrade kits are dead.
Works as advertised jus got done with the Lowes DWS779 BF deal. Clean and accurate.
Thanks J Bondo, Yes thats a great deal from Lowes. Now you have a saw setup that will serve your needs for many years to come. Safe cutting, George Merrill
Just ordered this, waiting to get my miter saw tomorrow.
Did the kit work for you? I’m buying a used 779
Is something like this available for the Ridgid model MS1290MZA?
How do I know if my DWS779 is compatible or not with this kit?.
Hi Gian, if you look in the description of the video you will see that ALL models of the 779 including Type 21 work with this light kit! Hope this helps:)

Question: How do I determine if my DWS779 is upgradable for XPS?
The link to the new wiring set up didn’t work. Broken link and it said you guys were helping customers. I had to figure out the wiring on my own. 8/11/21
Excellent video - explained everything. Parts fit well too.
Can a Dewalt DWS779 type 22 be upgraded just bought myself one after my old miter saw died and this would really be a great upgrade? Thanks
Just received this kit and installed it per the video instructions. Excellent. Thank you.
You don't need to swap the bottom half of the handle, right? I didn't swap it and it works just fine. From what I can tell, they are identical.
I agree 😀
Can you tell me what size the spade connector is on the white wire? It seems like it would be easy to make a very short extension and splice the wiring harness into it instead of cutting off the connector and voiding your warranty.
Does it fit on the DW 718 qs type 1
How can get all this part?? Thanks
My saw is the DWS 779. Type 21 is the kit compatible before I order just making sure cause I’m yals description it says type 20 saws

Worked as promised,Great for leaving shadow outline on material
Sold! My son and I are going “halfsies” on a 779, and he was excited to hear what I found out from this video. Thanks for posting!
What are halfsies? They had this same saw on sale at Home Depot for 400 with dewalts rolling miter saw stand
We’re each throwing in a half to purchase the combo you’re talking about at Home Depot-a great deal!

He he, actually the video was shot in china, thats how those boys do it over there. ;-)
I have the newest “type 22” version DWS779. Will this kit work?
Just installed mine on the DWS779. Anybody notice a slight delay when you turn on the XPS light? It’s not instant
Your video starts with saying to look on the top of the arm to see if it’s upgradable. Am I just looking for the model (779) or should it say upgradable?
Yep, your good to go.
What gauge is the free wiring harness? I am going to piggyback the connection instead of cutting the saws original wire.
Will this work for my DW779 type 22?
I have a DWS716 miter saw, is this upgrade compatible?, or is it only for DWS779?
I like this video, I’m buying the 779 right now
You mention that not all types of DW779 are compatible with the modification though you do not mention here or on the page which type is required. Could you elaborate?
Great question! This work light is compatible with DeWalt's newer saws - DW716 (Type 20); DWS779; DWS780 and DWS782. The installation process will be the same for all of these.
