Really happy you guys decided to paint all that, most guys would have slapped it right back under the car. This cars going to be the cleanest rx7 in the world. Your gonna have a lot of people that want you to build their cars when this is done.
Nice, I did this same upgrade in my 20b FD and now swapping it to a RB26. I actually used a Eaton Electric Locking Diff and put it into a 8.8 out of a Ford Explorer with 4.11 gear set. Then I bought DriveShaft Shop Pro Axels, cut and rewelded the subframe with upgraded mounts. You will be happy with this upgrade. I would also put adjustable link and toe arms on too...I did!
What is the width of the correct 8.8 rear end that will fit in an FD? I have one to snag up but the owner doesn’t know what car it came out of. It’s 56.5 inches wide
@@natmye2327 Honestly brotha, I made this comment 2 years ago. I parked the car and it's been sitting in the same spot since then. Been busy with other life events. If you would have asked me back then, I would have had an answer for you. I would love to give you an answer, but I just can't.
Great content. Keep up the great work. I’m finally caught up with all your vids. You two are really making top quality content that compares with any of the biggest channels. Thank your boss again. Be sure to give him a months notice when you buy your new shop and leave him!!
@@slightlyMADcustoms If your boss is paying attention, he should buy a property now to set up your new shop and lock you two into a ten year lease. That way he won’t be left out cold as you guys make it big. You could suggest a plan to him now so he can think on it. Either way, you two are going to do well.
I appreciate your build and hard work so much as a technician living in Canada and doing photography and UA-cam on the side, I know how much time it takes off your personal life when you work and UA-cam. I hope the viewers here notice that every time you guys do a B-roll your build just gets slower which means one person is recording while only one gets to do actual work. Hats off to you guys please stay motivated, if you ever move to Ontario or come over to this side to visit hope I get to meet you both. I subscribed to you guys with all my channels lol. ✌
Thanks man, yeah it’s definitely a lot more planning to film and work! We’ll have to do a road trip out east some day, but also if you’re ever out west you’re more than welcome to come see the cars and say hi!
Am I the only one wondering how you guys know how to do all this stuff or how you got all that equipment and tools, etc... I am very impressed with the amount of knowledge and skills you all have. Maybe you are older than what you look and have yrs and yrs of experience doing this. This is not common knowledge mechanics.
@@slightlyMADcustoms so I have a s13 cam’d LS3 TR6060 twin disk clutch and a stock diff and wisefab axles. The weak point was axles now the weak point is diff. It lasts around 3-5 events, I’d like to be able to clutch kick and not have to worry. It makes around 500hp
Ya 8.8 is a logical place to go if your diff isn’t holding up. Hard to say with 100% certainty that it’ll survive that abuse, but I couldn’t see any reason why it would be worse than your S13 diff.
Nice job well finished. Si you have a car that no torque and now has the most torque from any NA motor, hopefully your tires are still the weak point, otherwise the term pretzel is going to be in your weekly vocabulary 😂😂😂😂
I think it was a 2008, 3.55 open diff. I bought a different centre section for it to go LSD. All of the years from that generation of explorer work for donor diffs though
i don’t think clap on lights would be the best in a garage. imagine hitting something with a hammer and the lights keep turning on and off 😭 i could be wrong tho

That would be really cool! Thanks man!
“That’s right, we fancy as f*ck!”
Y’all killing it with these videos.
Haha thanks man!
Next build do a viper with a rotary 😂😂😂 Gotta piss off everybody
That would be hilarious 😂
i like this idea
I too like this very much.
They need to work with @robdahm and put a turbo 3 or 4 rotor in the viper lol let this build come full circle

Did you know that the Explorer diff housing is 4X stronger than the one from the Terminator Mustang. Crazy right!
Very nice! We’ll look into it! Thanks for the wisdom!

Legit thought that was Tom Holland bead blasting for a second 😅
Lol I get that all the time 😂
@@slightlyMADcustoms Someone will comment this every other video.
Maybe if we get big enough I can hire Tom Holland to replace me on a couple episodes. Really throw people off 😂

This is officially my goal to make this happen
My favorite build series on youtube
We really appreciate the support!
It's crazy to think that you do all of this by yourselves. I'm inspired

That turned out really really clean. Nice work!
Thank you! We appreciate it
Man I can't wait to start building my 1J 300ZX, videos like this motivate me so much
Ya dude do it!

JUST BEAUTIFUL. Beautiful build beautiful video.
Thanks so much man!
@@slightlyMADcustoms hey, beautiful beautiful beautiful video 🎶
Thanks!
9:04 that's one sick rear end!!!
Thanks man! Love the clean black and silver look. Always so tempting to paint it red or something cool, but then it looks weird under the car
@@slightlyMADcustoms it really looks perfect like this with the black & silver
Sweet, glad you like!
I’m really surprised this build isn’t getting much traction... it’s fucking crazy guys🤘🏻
I think we’ll have a spike once the car is running and driving. Then we can really show off our work
Dude I love the editing, how is it so clean

Thanks so much! New episode dropping tomorrow morning!
Sick build can’t wait for it 🔥I’m just wondering what the song was for the painting montage
It’s in the description. Run Forrest by Latrell James
How in hell are you not more famous, you really deserve more subs!
Thanks man! Maybe once the build is done it’ll get more attention!
SlightlyMAD: ....then we get this thing off to paint.
Me: awwwwww, really?
SlightlyMad: moves into paint booth.
Me: nice!.... redeemed.
Lol 😂
With these phenomenal cinematics and those clap lights, I know this channel is gonna see some proper recognition before long
My thoughts exactly, those clapping lights are going to take us to the top
Hope you guys reached 100k subs soon. Great quality as always.
Thanks so much! That would be awesome
Wow you guys are doing great
Thanks!
That’s amazing work!
Thanks!
You guys killed it with the music and camera work during the painting montage, the generic youtube music everyone uses gets monotonous over time.
Thanks! That section felt good while I was editing. Such a good song too!
Good job, you guys make it look easy, got a 💕 it .
Thank you!
You guys are doing amazing. I cant wait to see what it looks like with some paint. What colors where you thinking?
Thanks! We’re thinking safari gold from the old Datsuns!
That would look perfect.
Sweet, glad you think do
So*
Too bad were not friends, ive got a gen 2 or 3 viper diff just sitting in my garage
Let’s be friends 😂
You have a paint booth?? Or did you rent time in that?
That rear end looks incredible all silver and black.
We rent it! Would be awesome to have our own!
New Upload?! Ah shizz better put down my books and take a break from studying lol. Love these vids, man
Every Thursday! Hope you enjoy!

She’s gonna absolutely shred tires beautifully
You know it! 😂
Let me know how it drives. I want to the same for my 1JZGTE FD but I am concerned about vibrations
Ya for sure!
(VipeRx7) snakes on the side would be dope
Haha that would be pretty cool!
excellent video!!!
Thanks friend
So sick!!
Thanks man!
That’s clean

Okay I know I dont know as much about cars as you guys but I would've gone with the 9 in just in case it makes more power then you expect
The 8.8 has seen horsepower numbers close to 1000. We won’t be making anything near 1000
@@slightlyMADcustoms okay, I didnt know if you were gonna turbo it or do anything to make more power
Nah if we’re about to turbo this thing please come find us and stop us 😂
What axles and lsd did you end up using?
Ronin speed work grande axles and eaton true-trac LSD in a 2008 ford explorer center section with 3.55 gears
How has the diff held up? I want to do something similar
8.8s are amazing! Havnt put mine through much work yet, but ya it’s the go to for big power

Do you not have any air or battery tools? All this manual wrenching is wearing me out and I'm not even doing the work. Lol
We do, but feels so good to tear apart a rear end by hand doesn’t it?
@@slightlyMADcustoms depends on the rear end. Lol
True true. Also we have a air compressor and tools but it’s loud for filming.
@@slightlyMADcustoms completely understand about the noise but that's what background music is for. Enjoying your videos regardless though
Thanks man!
do you think this could be done for a e30?
It definitely could. But you’d need custom mounting and axles
What bushing are the blue ones?
Those are power flex FD RX7 diff mount bushings, poly I believe
@@slightlyMADcustoms ok googling now thanks
How do you know it's aligned?
You can measure side to side to make sure it’s cantered in the subframe. Then once it’s all bolted in the car you can degree it
Nice job well finished. Si you have a car that no torque and now has the most torque from any NA motor, hopefully your tires are still the weak point, otherwise the term pretzel is going to be in your weekly vocabulary 😂😂😂😂
Pretzel already is 😏 (I like pretzels)
Where did you get the blue bushings for the diff to mount to the oem subframe?
They’re just regular FD diff hanger bushings! I can’t remember what brand I used but they were poly bushings. Any FD ones work with the Ronin swap kit
@@slightlyMADcustoms oh that’s awesome! Thank you, I appreciate the info!
So is a 2009 or 2005 8.8?
I think it was a 2008, 3.55 open diff. I bought a different centre section for it to go LSD. All of the years from that generation of explorer work for donor diffs though
hot damn
i don’t think clap on lights would be the best in a garage. imagine hitting something with a hammer and the lights keep turning on and off 😭 i could be wrong tho
Lol 😂 that is very true. Makes hammering a whole lot more exciting
is that a Canadian with a 9/16th wrench!? smh
Yes unfortunately Americans have forced us to keep the stupidest measuring system and tools 😂
@@slightlyMADcustoms we dont like that shit either. you dont see many JDM enthusiasts with SAE tools. I still use metric working on my girls wrangler.
Ya seems like for the most part you can get away with metric on imperial bolts, but there’s a few weird sizes. So silly
