Love how you prioritize what is important to your build, based upon your mountanist wealth of knowledge and experience...but what pulls to your heart!!!!
One year while Laguna Seca for indy car race I seen Ivan Stewart there I started talking to him as a huge crowd came up we were separated then I seen him look over the crowd and walk straight back at me and continued our conversation I thought what a genuine person he is He will always be the Ironman
Nice build! I am in the process of building a 9" rear for my 2000 TJ. I've got the same 3rd member setup except I went with 5.13 gears. I'm using the Artec top and backbone trusses to strengthen it. The front is going to be a D44 high pinion from a 78 F150 (retubed to get rid of the c wedges). Hoping to be able to afford an OX cable locker for that one... $$$ It's all just time and money...
I’m building a similar 9”, Yukon zip locker. I didn’t see the air line routing. It would be super helpful seeing a video of drilling a case, finishing off the airline routing and fitting install.
Nice video, thanks because I'm rebuilding and regearing the 9" in my 64 Falcon Sprint. Oh and lol I put a lot of quarters into that video game back in the day. 👍
Right on yeah I played the hell out of Off Road when I was a kid....that was how I justified buying it I told my wife I had already paid for it once in my life
Damn Ian is getting damn good at this… I’m building a om617 ‘69 ford bronco I got a 9” out of old ford van that I’m going to convert to front axle this was excellent for me thx Ian!
Have watched you from the beginning of your TV career and love every video or episode you do. Sure wish the curvey buggy would have been able to be finished. That thing was going to be awesome. Love the content and keep building the jeeps. I am a big jeep fan and own 5 at the moment
Great content. Would love to see you move away from a TV style show and embrace the youtube platform that allows for longer and much more in depth videos. Of course longer videos means more filming and editing but I know I would love to watch 30 minute videos on each step of the build over the 10 minute ones. I dont plan to stop watching regardless.
I have done both on here....I have some complete step by step ones on this channel....and we are working on some "UA-cam" style vids that you will see in a few months or so.
In the process of rebuilding my 9 inch from bearing cap breakage. Going with a nodular iron center section. What are the pros on the daytona pinion support? This is the first I have ever heard of it.
Looking at stamped 9” housings to keep the look in the center section. Any idea who makes the strongest? I see John’s industries lists one stamped out of 1/4”, but I haven’t heard of them.
No the bar stays the same....1.5" ground and polished solid bar. I have different size spindle nuts for different spindles. As well as pucks for unit bearings. I either buy them or I have them made for specific applications.
In a discussion w a buddy getting ready to shorten a 9”, why tig root? The backing plate caps that came in look like one good hot pass w the mig would do. But this video is his arguing point for why I should tig then mig… What am I missing bröther?
The thickness of the material you are welding determines the need for mutiple passes...the TIG root allows you full control over the molten puddle and "set" the pieces prior to the MIG cover. You also can move around the material with the TIG essentially welding in a criss cross pattern to prevent the knuckle or bearing plate from "pulling" If you just "crank up" the mig for one crazy hot pass...yes it will work..but there is a greater chance that the end cap pr knuckle will not be straight
Do you have a video on the full specs on the front axle? How is it a high pinion and the rear is low if thier both a ford 9 inch setup which is low pinion I thought
I thought 14 bolt was your favorite? I see the front carrier is bolted in with the pinion up high, i wish you would have shown the oiling modification needed to run it upside down. Good episode though, been watching you build cool stuff forever.
@@BigTireGarage that's awesome, can't believe I have not seen one of those. Then again, it took me two years to source a junkyard hi-pinion LC elocker for the front of my '86 4Runner! 😬
We are so excited to see your build Ian! We just finished our '58 Willy's Wagon and recently took it on it's shake down maiden voyage on the North Rim. Maybe we will see you on the trial when yours is done! ua-cam.com/video/i6BhNlwji1Y/v-deo.html
Hope you guys are enjoying this build, can't wait for you guys to see the body in the next couple eps....it looks awesome.
Yes sir👍🏻, I have wanted a wagon for 23-24 yrs, keep it up
I like these style of videos a little better than the fourwheeler ones. Feels more like I'm just hanging out in your shop while you work.
Looking forward to it.
It's good to see you back in front of the camera, quality content!
Make sure you watch #FourWheeler on Motortrend as well
Ivan Stewarts offroad has to be one of the greatest arcade games off all time.
Yes it is
I remember that game. Used to spend hours playing it on my Nintendo.

Man this is way better that power nation!
Well Powernation nowadays
I remember you building axles with neon green knuckles back on Extreme. Nice to see the industry making improvements along the way. Good work Ian!
Crane stuff was and is still great...I honestly had these knuckles in the shop
@@BigTireGarage I do remember those green knuckles were pretty stout looking too. 👍
I have and always will enjoyed ever build you do Ian!! Cheers!!!🥃
I wish you would do a detailed install video of setting up a kingpin D60 front and a D60 rear gears.
Nice build!

I love rebuilding Ring an Pinions!!! And yes, the crush sleeve eliminator kit is the way to go..👍🏼
Agree
I'm not an off road type guy but I love the fabrication work and watching and learning. Your old show has been ruined with script writers.
That is because I wrote all the scripts on that show from episode 1, I have to admit I was not surprised to see it get cancelled
I’m building a similar 9”, Yukon zip locker. I didn’t see the air line routing. It would be super helpful seeing a video of drilling a case, finishing off the airline routing and fitting install.
Ok will do

You can never have too many jeeps

Badass looking axles! I wish I had the opportunity to put mine together from scratch like that. Really cool!
Thanks 👍
It nice to see you man! I hope all is well! You do awesome work!
Thanks!

Awesome build Ian.
Thanks 👍glad you liked it thanks for watching
Let me clear my throat!
Also, I love seeing a cool custom axle build like this on the JK chassis. Would love to run something like this on my jku.
They are a great axle
You make it look so easy
It isn't that hard....just labor
Hay, Ian, sorry I started a fire storm on the ZJ and XJ challenge between Bleepin Matt and Busted Matt about the judging , it was just in fun.
I didn't even notice there was a "firestorm"
Loving it awesome build going cant wait to see the body on
You and me both!
👍 great 👌 those are some killer axles
They are looking good 👍👍🇨🇱
Do you do work for the public because I have a 12 bolt Chevy rear end that I am scared to attempt to put gears in a locker into
Don't be scared, jump right in! There's so much info out there to help! I got tired of paying "professionals" just to have the diff fail.
Awesome as always. Thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks for watching!
Because I had a 1964 Jeep Willys Truck, I’m very interesting in your Willys Wagon history…
Looking at stamped 9” housings to keep the look in the center section. Any idea who makes the strongest? I see John’s industries lists one stamped out of 1/4”, but I haven’t heard of them.
I do not know, sorry I use a lot of fabricated housings
Great content, do you have multiple size alignment bars for different spindle sizes? And where did you get them from?
No the bar stays the same....1.5" ground and polished solid bar. I have different size spindle nuts for different spindles. As well as pucks for unit bearings. I either buy them or I have them made for specific applications.

Thank you for the insite you absolutely confirmed my theory concerning distortion. Looks like slow and steady wins this race!
Do you have a video on the full specs on the front axle? How is it a high pinion and the rear is low if thier both a ford 9 inch setup which is low pinion I thought
the front 3rd member is from a company called True Hi9 they make a high pinion 9"
You have way cool toys / tools claw grinder is awesome.
Yes they are! So nice for tube work
I wish you where my neighbor!
I thought 14 bolt was your favorite? I see the front carrier is bolted in with the pinion up high, i wish you would have shown the oiling modification needed to run it upside down. Good episode though, been watching you build cool stuff forever.
It isn't upside down in the front, it is a High Pinion third member from True HI9
I noticed that the front diff is flipped(hi pinion) and the rear is not. Did you get reverse cut gears?
It is a High Pinion drop out from True HI9
@@BigTireGarage that's awesome, can't believe I have not seen one of those. Then again, it took me two years to source a junkyard hi-pinion LC elocker for the front of my '86 4Runner! 😬
What full float set up did you use for the rear? Is it a dana 60 or 14 bolt spindle?
Its a 14 bolt spindle
You need to do a video on the rear axle build alone, hint hint...
How to seal a currie 9" axle assembly
You having trouble sealing the axle?
Mig and Tig were welded on this day by Rev(ered) Ian in his Big Tire Garage on a 9" Ford. 😂😂😂
Would like this better without music but its a good video
I’m surprised you skipped right over the hi 9 part
It really isn't that different setup than the rear.....
I love it
Ian, these videos are just not long enough.
I understand.....but it is a pile of work to make em...I do have like 4 other jobs
