How to Program a Chevrolet Tahoe Key Fob (GMT900) GM Truck
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 січ 2018
- If you have a 2007-2014 GMT900 based truck you'll likely be able to skip the expensive OEM key and get a replacement key fob for less than $20 and program it for free. However, some vehicles from 2011 and up need the dealer tool to reprogram.
(Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Avalanche, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Denali, GMC Yukon, GMC Sierra, Cadillac Escalade)
It's as easy as buying a replacement key fob or two, hopping in the truck and pressing a few buttons.

Man I hate when people just talk too much on UA-cam just get to the point
Facts lmao I say that all the time
exactly.. im like Jesus hurry up dude
Hey man, for the remote start you have to lock it till it honks then hold the remote start button and it starts. Also thanks, this tutorial really helps.
Thank you sir! I am trying this to reprogram the new fobs.
Just saved me a lot of frustrating dude... thank you 😊
SWEET. This is what it's here for. Glad it helped.
God Bless you brother excellent tutorial!!!
Thank you! Glad you find it helpful!
Omg It took wayyyyyy too long just to press two buttons but thank ya lol
Haha, you're probably right. I talk...glad it helped eventually!
Took way too long to get to the point
Agreed
Thank you so much!! Fast and easy
my lift driver side lock/unlock not functioning, used the passenger's side not getting positive result, i enter the programing mode but the remote not programed, i changed the battery too, nothing happened
Thanks for the video!
just bought this same truck, you made it super easy to do this thanks bro 🙌
Love to hear it.
You can buy just the case, without the internal electronics, if your case is damage. Great video.
Good tip!
😅مززز
That’s What I do ajjaja
Tyvm for making it simple.
Gracias 😁 really helps.
Awesome, glad it did!
Thanks Man ..this Video really helps a lot ..and maybe save me some $$🧔🏻👍🏼
Awesome, hope it does! It's crazy what a stealership might charge for parts and labor on something this simple.
The ending was so wholesome
Awesome video, just got my remote and going to program it; I was curious on how much they were going to charge so I went to ask the service guy and he told me that it is going to cost me $185 to program it, with that said I. Just turn around and walked away.
👍👍
This is what I'm talking about. Newer trucks need the service tool, but a locksmith will do it for cheaper. Glad you didn't get ripped off.
Worked for my 07 suburban. Thanks
I have 07 Chevy Suburban and for the life of me, i cannot get it to work! What did you do?
@@donnaswift4978 I did exactly what he did on the video
@@anthonyluciano8655 i did to.... But then i seen that my check engine light is on. Thanks
Awesome, glad it did!
Go get a cheap OBD2 scanner and look up the codes on google. Or go to an auto parts store, most will do a free scan for you. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007JSGR9Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hello sir, everything works on my tahoe 07 but the whole back door dont open with the fob, only the glass. Would you know why?
Fob won't open the tail gate itself? Does the power lift gate work using the button in the truck or on the handle? If so it might be the fob itself. If not, it could be the lift gate motor.
The relearn option is available for 2011 and under.
Thank you!!!
hey how can i set my remote but here’s a thing i can’t see the dash lights anymore. like where it tells me if i need to change my oil or the mileage
What happens when you press the buttons to the right? If nothing shows it's probably the cluster. Hope you got it sorted.
I bought a 2007 tahoe lt. Do you think this one has remote start and to open the gate? It came with a remote that has all but idk if is the original
I'd imagine it has remote start with the LT. The power liftgate you can tell if you have the buttons on the interior. Mine, with the sunroof, are above the mirror near the sunroof controls.
Hey i reprogrammed the fob and its going thru the system and locking and unlocking but not phisically locking any ideas ???
Do the door lock buttons physically lock? If not, If it's the same year and the fob was programmed correctly the door lock actuators can break. I've replaced most of mine around 160k. If not, then newer trucks (2011 and up i think) have a different computer and need a scan tool to reprogram fobs.
I have a 2011 Tahoe, the relearn option isn’t showing up when I click the info button. Does this force me to go to a dealer? Thank you!
Interesting. Does your fob and dash look the same? I know there was a change at some point but I thought it was later than 2011. Try this post there are two types of.fobs apparently for 2011. chevroletforum.com/forum/tahoe-suburban-25/how-program-new-key-remote-fob-2011-suburban-47576/
I hope it doesn't force you. You might find a repair shop that's not a dealer that is more trustworthy or affordable that had a GM scan tool if that is required. There's almost always a way around going to a dealer.
THANK YOU!
Hey I know this is old but what if the check button doesn’t register to the ecu that your pressing it?
Then I'd say try again? Push harder? Not sure I understand. This method adds keys in order. I don't think it'll erase any until it accepts your new inputs. If you have an autel tablet you should be able to view all the keys associated and add and remove with the touch screen software, but they're pricey (worth the investment if you work on your vehicles). A locksmith will probably help cheaper than a dealer if you can't use this method.
Need help have 11 chev sub but that option isnt on there? Any other way
Oh man, yeah I've heard they've updated the computer system mid-generation. You need a scan tool with immobilizer functions to do so. I just bought an Autel MP-808TS and it does it. They have some cheaper (and some more expensive) options so you might consider finding another that has immobilizer functions. Otherwise a locksmith should do it for about $100 (which I had to do on my Silverado last year). Anything but going to the dealer. Sorry for the late reply, I hope you got it sorted!
Mine is Chevy Tahoe 2013. I tried not succeed in programming to new bought remote.
My Question is after pressing INFO before pressing hold check button on screen mode to have??
You'll need a scan tool. GM changed the system between 10-12.
What if the remote key program is not one of the options? I have a 2012 Tahoe.
You'll need a scan tool to do it. A locksmith can do it usually much cheaper than the dealer. Or buy something like an Autel Maxisys (affiliate link) amzn.to/42MEWRV Although it's only worth it if you plan on doing diagnostic work on your vehicles too. Locksmith for me in the past was around $120 to program keys.
I must have other issues. I have done this several times in a week. My d9r locks lock or unlocked randomly. This is a used 09 avalanche. Also I got the beep several times putting my truck in reverse. Sometimes it locks after I walk off. It's random.blikevit has a mind of its own. Back doors don't unlock when they're supposed to most of the time. Do I need a new fob or battery?
The same thing is happening to me
I had a problem with the doors locking and unlocking while driving would say driver door open. Changed the latch with a gm part. Everything works after that. Sometimes the driver door lock switch will act up and that has to be replaced
my info button doesnt scroll to that option to learn new remote ? what is next process?
If you're a later model year the system could be different. I'm sorry, I don't know! Please try searching for your specific vehicle and model year.
Thank you that helped a lot. Really appreciate it
Awesome, thanks for letting me know!
I've got a 2014 suburban and that option is not on my car,any advice?😕
Yes, unfortunately for you, GM switched computer systems in 2012 or so. You'll need a scan tool to do it. A locksmith with the tool will charge around $120 in my experience and takes ten minutes. You can research autel maxisys scan tools if you plan to do this and other things and find it worth it. I bought a $900 one to do diag and keys and a lot more as I do stuff all the time. However, the locksmith might be your best bet depending on what the stealership charges. Hope that helps!
I have a 2013 Chevy Tahoe and it doesn't show the remote relearn what can I do?
The computer system was updated prior to 2013. You'll need a relearn tool. If you're doing a lot of work yourself (check engine lights, diagnostics, TPMS, etc.), I'd suggest getting something like an Autel Maxisys (affiliate link: amzn.to/3QyVMP3) or go to a locksmith. They can usually do it for around $100-150. Easier and usually cheaper than the dealer.
I have a 13 Silverado and it doesn’t have learn key mode... any idea how to navigate thru w/o that option
My understanding is GM changed the electronics around then and you need the service tool to do so. You should be able to go to a locksmith for the service, or the dealer. Although I'd rather go to a locksmith than a dealer. I had to do so for my '18 Silverado. Sorry there's no easy way on your '13.
@@WildMountainGarage thanks for the info
Does not work on 2014 Tahoe LTZ. Can you give me a suggestion? thanks
Sorry for delay. Works in 2011 and under. You'll need something like an Autel Maxisys to do it. Affiliate link: amzn.to/42wiyfo
I programmed two more of mine over a year ago and it works fine, then put it away, today I tried them, none of them work? I dropped the original one and lost the battery, so I took the battery off the one I programmed a year ago to my old remote just to lock my vehicle. So why did the memory program one forget its memory?
Odd. Not sure. Sounds like you'll have to program again.
So I did my remotes, they both work perfectly, but I tried the remote start, and the truck kinda wanted to start or it did but stayed ON for like 1sec. Then I tried again and the lights just flash
Sounds like an issue with something related to it remote starting. Perhaps something is preventing it. If my Silverado has a check engine light on it won't remote start or if you try to remote start more than twice it locks it out so you don't keep it remote started indefinitely. Hope you got it sorted.
@@WildMountainGarage well my check engine light is OFF but my dash is throwing me codes SERVICE TRACCIÓN CONTROL SERVICE STABILITY CONTROL etc.. and just today found out it’s my steering wheel column angle sensor. And not it’s discontinued. Having such a hard time trying to get it. No place I Can find it. Not even gmc parts.. I’m going crazy.!
Does every Tahoe come with remote start and back door open ?
I don't know. My friend's Suburban from the same era has both. I think it's an LT and ours is an LTZ trim. I would think so but can't speak for the base models.
Mine has no buttons on the dash to push
Jesus is King! Thanks for the video friend. Hoping this works on my 2011 Yukon.
Amen and ditto! Thanks for watching. Lmk how it goes.
Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Thank you sir
THANK YOU!!❣️
You're welcome!!!
The new remote start button doesn’t work, I lock it first then push the start button, lights comes on and clicks then nothing..why??
Did your previous fob have remote start? If not, then it won't work. If it did check your fuses or the remote start (if the previous remote start worked). Also try syncing again. There could be antitheft or a million other electrical reasons. It just worked for me on a stock 09 with remote start. Sorry I can't be of more help!
God bless you
my 2013 tahoe does not appear that function to program the control as I can do?
Hey Rafa, I think GM changed the electronics in 2011 or 2012. You can search for your model year and see if there's another way, but you'll probably have to go to a locksmith or reputable mechanic. I went to a locksmith for my 2018 Silverado. Don't get ripped off at the dealership.
@@WildMountainGarage OK thank you very much👍
Thank you 😊
You're welcome!
Thanks big Guy
Anytime little dude
I changed the battery to the control of my 2008 tahoe and it no longer turns on with the control could you help me
Make sure the battery is in correctly and follow the procedure in this video. Once the remote is synced all functions should work as long as the truck has those functions. Otherwise, try a locksmith or reputable mechanic to do the syncing for you. Don't get ripped off at the dealership.
thanks you if it worked
Damn I don’t have that relearn remote key option :/ what do I do
You'll need a scan tool that can program keys. Invest in a maxisys or go to a locksmith.
Except when I scroll through the menu the "relearn remote" option does not come up.
Must be a newer model. You'll need a tool like an Autel Maxisys or similar. Affiliate link: amzn.to/42wiyfo
Does it work for a 2005 Chevy Tahoe
I think the procedure is similar. Make sure the fob you buy is for the correct year.
2013 Chevy traverse will this work for me
2013 I don't think so. Invest in a maxisys scan tool that can do keys or visit a locksmith.
Thank you
does this work when you dont have the original key fob? can i just program the amazon bought one??
Sorry for the delay, have been off comments. If your truck is not a 2011, it should be fine. You don't need the original fob as programming on these trucks is done with the system and it erases the old fobs when you add new ones. So if you have an old fob and want to add new ones alongside it, program the old fob first, then the new ones. If you buy a new fob and want to replace the old one (whether you have it or not), just do the program procedure with the fobs you want to use. I hope this helps.
Mine didn't have a alarm but I know it has alarm
@@WildMountainGarage what if it is 2011?
@@ilovepinkguitars 2011 should be fine from what I understand
@@WildMountainGarage Maybe it's me but it seems like you're flip flopping between the 2011 is a dealer program, or it isn't.. Do appreciate you making the effort to do the video.. I have a 2011 Tahoe LT.
going to order remote as well as the key will Walmart do the key
ok got them today and when I press the button it just goes to door lock then I press the check and it goes to off any idea what to do next
Sorry for the delay. What year truck? Second half of this generation uses a new computer system and apparently you need the scan tool to do it. Hope you got it sorted. Either way, a locksmith or mechanic will likely do it cheaper than the dealer.
I have a 2013 LTZ and it doesn’t have the relearn option.
Yeah it switched somewhere between 10-12. I forget. You'll need a better scan tool.
Mine doesn't open tail gate would u know why not?
If the old fob opened the tailgate and the tailgate switch in the cab works as well as the actual tailgate switch I'd assume it's the wrong remote or something wrong with the remote. There isn't a procedure for individual functions only just syncing new remotes.
Anyone have an issue programming a new fob, I can’t seem to get my new fob programmed.
Try a scan tool that can add fobs, like a maxisys
Thanks!
I hope it helped!
Thanks
When I press the info button there is no REMOTE KEY LEARNING option
Any suggestions ?
What year truck?
Mine too and it's a 2011 chevy Tahoe
I have a 2011 GMC Yukon it won’t not give me the option Remote Key
What should I do.
@@josemartinez6485 You followed the steps exactly? Same dash? This truck is an LTZ, perhaps there's a difference with trim levels/options? Memory seats, etc? 2010 had a mid-cycle refresh so maybe something changed there? Sorry I can't be of more help.
@@codycampbell9408 Sorry for the late reply. The creator app doesn't always give me the latest comments apparently. You followed the steps exactly? Same dash? In my truck I did not have the option to activate it in a 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid. Who could help me? 😭😭😭
You'll need a tablet-style scan tool that has diagnostic functionality. I bit the bullet on an expensive one a few years back and it's paid for itself several times over. Search for autel maxisys or similar.
Hey when I click the check mark it doesn’t do anything what should I do?
@Theking Davidg11 close the doors try while u see the reprogram unlocks the car
Sorry for late reply. I see comments about keeping the doors shut. I'd definitely start there.
@@WildMountainGarage I'm having the same issue with doors locked and it still won't work on a 2007 chevy tahoe
Hold the check mark down until it beeps
No beep sound after check button PRESS/HOLD.
But what on dash screen mode to press check button ?
Nice
This process did not work on my 2012 GMC sierra 1500
I'm sorry to hear that. I have heard that 2011/2012 and up the process is a little different. GM must have changed some electronics mid-cycle.
Hello sir .. i changed fob of my chevi 2007 but only driver door lock works other not working completely .. any advice ?
Does the new fob look the same as the old one on the outside? Did the old fob do all the doors? Does the driver door panel do the other doors? My three other door locks failed all about the same time. I did a video showing replacement of one, but they're all the same. You can get all new units or just replace the motor and gear. But perhaps yours is a simpler problem than failed locks. If fobs match make sure driver door harnesses are connected and other door panel harnesses as well. Maybe an interior fuse or underhood fuse? I'm not by the truck now to look but you might check those.
@@WildMountainGarage yes Sir old Fob works good and driver lock also work for all doors. only new fob fails to open other three doors.
@@sannyxxx1 that's no good at all. All harnesses are connected and locks worked with old fob? Strange. Sorry it didn't help you.
This is not working on mine
Is yours a later model? This is a 2009 LTZ.
I have a model 2012 I did not find in the settings screen for programming remote !! what should I do ??
3zyiz I believe you have to go to the dealership 2011 and up.
@@edgarh252 I don't think so brother because their prices are expensive !! I expect that there is a way to solve this problem I will search and try to reach it, just expected that you have a solution since you have tried
I've heard that the mid-cycle and up models have a different fob system but I can't confirm. I'm sorry you're having trouble! If it makes you feel better my service airbag light came on and from what I hear it's the front sensors due to corrosion. I hope you get yours sorted out. A more expensive scan tool might be able to do it, but I haven't been able to stomach the price of one of those units yet.
@@WildMountainGarage thank you my dear . I am happy to communicate with you
I will do the experiments later after looking for the closest ways to solve the problem.

Sorry, I think they changed the electronics in 2011 or 2012.
Yea like he said the 2011 models don't work have to go to the dealership
A locksmith or a decent scan tool will do it too.
So if you got a ls silverado( no info) guess it's to the dealer
Ha, I hope not. Depends on the year. I've heard from the comments that it seems halfway through this generation of trucks they changed over.
