I've always wanted to see what happens if you beat the game with all the characters since there was an option to make a special save on the memory card to do that.

@@StewTube Thanks, I'll have to check it out. Any time I played it I would always make that special save file but I've never been able to beat anyone's storyline let alone all of them. I wish they would do a remastering of this game and it's sequel someday. Also maybe a nice vinyl release of the soundtrack would be awesome.
Great review! The one thing I'd add though is there are small changes if you keep the same master save. For instance, if you played Red after completing one of the other stories he would start out with more moves and better stats.
@@StewTube heh well I wouldn't blame you, I think its only really noticeable for Red and Emelia and it's really a negligable difference. You convinced me with this awsome review! I had this game back then but never got into it for some reason but now that the remastered is coming to Switch I will definitely give it a second chance. I also will order a strategy guide to go with it cuz I want to learn to powerful moves lol
A strategy guide would definetly be handy. This games pretty tough to learn but once you got it your good to go. There's a move called Dream Saver Combo that you can learn with a few different characters that breaks the game lol. There's alot of hidden super bosses too.
I introduced so many people to this game in the nineties. It's one of my favorite still. I beat every characters story but never on the same playthrough lol
I am a huge fan of Asellus and Blue. I often turn them into spellcasters. I don't know why but I've enjoyed Saga Frontier's magic system a lot, going through trials to get the gifts.
I liked them both alot too. The trials for magic are a great idea but it does get kinda old if you play the entire game and complete all the characters. But it's alot more interesting than just having a black mage who learns everything over time. I also love the fact that the spells all have unique names and not just ice1 ice 2 etc
I was commanded by our lord and overseer Stew to convince you to join the discord. I will tell you two facts. 1. We have cookies 2 I am greedy and wont share my cookies. Mostly because everyone is too far away.
It's so crazy to think that Square Enix has suddenly decided to push this series in the west! Can't wait for the remaster, never got to play this game myself back in the day.
@@StewTube Editing question for you. This is contingent upon you using Premiere Pro for editing so fingers crossed: How do you make the blur and background effect in your video (see 2:34 for reference) with a focused lucid image video in the middle?
So you wanna stack 3 video timelines on top of each other. Place 3 identicle clips on each timeline in the same part of eachtimeline Layer 1 the base you wanna zoom alot and add a "gaussian blur filter. Layer 2 zoom out the clip so it's like a smaller box within the screen and brighten it up so it's solid white. This will be your border Layer 3 will be your actual lucid image clip. Just zoom it out and position it so it's almost as big as layer 2 I use sony Vegas pro 17 but any editor should beable to do this Next stream ask me and I'll probably beable to explain it better
@@StewTube Nice! Man I wish they would remake this one. My favorite game of all time. I know you weren't very impressed with the debug room at the end but man I thought that was so cool. Ive never seen another game do that.
@@derekstuartanderson7121 Chronotrigger had one that was kinda simillar. The debig room was cool dont get me wrong I just wantes more I guess lol. Like something to tie all the storys together into one cohesive plot maybe
@@StewTube Yeah man I know what you mean.. I wish they weren't rushed to get it out. Would have been nice to see Lute's full story and to see how Fuse as the final character would have turned out. Though it seemed like the ring god was going to be the big boss over all the regions and would have effected all the characters but i think they had to scrap it, again for time.
Yeah even then I think its a great game. It took me 120 hours so part of me should be thankful it was a finished game haha! Overall it was an awesome experience. I really liked the scifi steam punk vibes. Real question though: Are the different regions actually different planets and the ships actually spaceships? The world may never know.
This was one of only two Saga games released in the US I had never owned (The other being Frontier 2) so I pre-ordered it. I wish theey would remaster the second game already. Saga/Final Fantasy Legend II was actually the first Squaresoft RPG I ever owned and the first I ever played.
@@StewTube I like both franchises but if I had to choose one it would be Saga definitely. Especially recently. I'm not a fan of MMOs so I've never played Final Fantasy XI or XIV, and I haven't played XVI yet either but of the ones I've played (Every non-MMO game except the VII remake, and XVI) the last one I loved was XII and XVI looks bad enough I'm waiting for it to hit the bargain bin. I will probably get VII Rebirth and the first part of the VII remake before XVI because the story changes have the potential to be very interesting IMO while XVI's story sounds mediocre at best. I actually got Final Fantasy Legend/Saga II and Final Fantasy I the same day but I played the former first because mom and I were about to leave the state to visit her family for a week so I decided to start the NES game when we got back.
A friend who finished all scenarios told me to start with Blue. Blue is the only character that has 'fast travel' and it made it easier to get familiar with the regions and the magic systems. I don't think I did much with the magic other than Blue and Lute. I' am looking forward to the remaster and curious about the new 8th character.
I feel like the best option is to go with red. His story is pretty linear so you'll learn alot about the game. Blue does have fast travel but it's important to know which regions a player should visit first based on the difficulty of random encounters. That's just my opinion though! Plus the way blues scenario ends is pretty freaky and makes for a good overall finale.
I remember starting with blue but it took me a long time to figure out where I needed to go and how to progress in his specific story. After playing Red and Assellus I understood the game in a different way which in turn helped me finish blues story. I realized that leveling up or obtaining too much gear per character quest was a waste unless it's the last character to beat it with
@@StewTube it's a great character to explore the game with but not an easy one to start with. I probably played 6 hours with only blue before I actually recruited another character. I blew through his story the 2nd time I played it.
I really enjoyed watching you stream this game. However, I kind of soured on it once I started playing it myself. The fact that there is an unbeatable dungeon connected to the first town in Emelia's story is not good game design IMO. After dealing with that roadblock for a few hours, decided to look up a walk through, and spent more time looking at that than playing the game. Not very fun for me, which is a shame because the game does have some very interesting things going on with the battle system and how your party members develop. I also really like the look of the game. It was like a PS1 and SNES game got mashed together and it gave the game a very unique style. Anyways, great review!
Your right it is like a ps1 and SNES love child haha. I know exactly what your talking about man. The game is super weird. It takes half the game to really get a good rythmn going and to know when you should go whare and stuff.
Is it related to sewers, caves and spiders? Might not be the same roadblock, but I get that feeling at a point in her story as well. At this point, her strength sucks and she mostly had useless abilities at that point. And the worse part is, there is another roadblock just a few minutes ahead, where you're gonna get maimed depending on your choices and if you've grinded her enough.
I watched 90% of the streams live but I still probably learned more about the plot and combat system from this review lol. I also get really hung up on the space/underwater issue. A baseball drummer doesn't bother me as much though.
@@dannyhull8447 her story is worth the play trust me. I dont really remember. Theres a point when they tell you you can leave and a few people join your party. Its confusing to trigger that part. You can check out my lets play and find that part if you want. =D its on the channel somewhare. Its pribably labled saga frontier live lets play assellus story episode 1 or 2 or maybe 3 it takes a whole to leave the castle lol
Do think octopath would have benefit from being struture like this game? I mean in the sense that you get to play 1 story per playthrough and then you need to start a new game to play the rest.
It's hard to say because I haven't played octopath yet. I do wish saga frontier had some sort of "main story" that ties each story into one bigger narrative at the end. I'm not sure how octopath handles this though.
The game being the way it is, every character can become strong. But Lute does start as a "blank slate" XD. If anything I always felt Riki was pretty "meh"
Wow, I remember playing this game. Was really looking forward to it after all the hype from the Japanese releases. This game was absolutely terrible and put me off JRPGs until I gave FFXII a chance. So boring. Should have stayed in Japan.
facebook saga group wouldnt let me post about how i beat 2nd div. all bosses with blue only , and any boss there with just 2 monsters in the team on rikis save. other saves i could have seen what 2 or 3 teams i could beat end bosses with but i gave it a break there, also beat asellus giant in the intro before leaving chateau. she beat him solo without taking any damage using DSC and she had dodge tremor and some other dodge the other one that helps you with the giant lol was a lucky playthrough. if i had white rose with asellus was even easier she would cast mirrorshade, da-dum, or magic heal lol.
Why you gotta get me hype at 4:21 a.m.. I still have my ps1 copy. Man I love this fkn game.. Beat em all and made it to the developers room on board reds ship. Don't remember what its called exactly..
Frog gotta do what a frog gotta do mayne. I managed to beat them all too. It probably took me around 80 hours to get to the dev room. You should join or discord brudda!
Unfortunetly I didn't use a guide. Your welcome to join our discord server. I have plenty of folks that love this game that can give you some great advice. The biggest thing I can reccomend is starting the game out by playing as Red. If you can make it through that the rest of the game will make alot more sense. His story is very linear and its the easiest a d you will learn alot.
Instead for 120 hrs of game play you just got to Dev room and read messages from developers. Instead for 120 hrs of game play you just got to Dev room and read messages from developers.
@@StewTube its all good man, it's probably fine even. I think I have a problem focusing on different sounds when they're going on at once, if that makes sense
SF2 was a good game but very different. Mostly because of the story structure being set. I didn't enjoy Will Knights story very much. I didn't feel a connection with the recruited cast because it changed often. I was reluctant to train the characters knowing that they were temporary

came here after the direct since it’s coming to switch. really excited for this game :)
Your gonna love it dude
Remasters gunna be dope I hope
Im sure it will be 😎
You convinced me with this awsome review!
Glad you enjoyed the video!
I introduced so many people to this game in the nineties. It's one of my favorite still. I beat every characters story but never on the same playthrough lol
That's awesome man. That's exactly why I review games from this era!

I've played this on ps1, later in life on my Note 4 ps1 emulator, and on my laptop with a ps4 controller. Loved it
Yeah man! Good stuff!
Finished it a long time ago, it was one of my most beloved games... my favorites were Blue and his brother Rogue
I really liked asellus and red. Awesome game for sure. I did a 100% run and it took me like 120 hours lol
The Saga games are epic. The GB saga games were my introduction to jrpg's as a kid. Still love those games.
I fai rly remember playing one of those as a kid!
Im here after the announcement of a remaster
Ayyyy welcome welcpme!
SO HAPPY! Remaster is happening!
I know man! Exciting stuff! 2020 has been a good year for jrpg remasters!
It's so crazy to think that Square Enix has suddenly decided to push this series in the west! Can't wait for the remaster, never got to play this game myself back in the day.
Neither did I until recently! Your gonna love it!
I got this game in 97, and I can't even tell you how many hours I put into it! I can't wait for this Remaster!
Nice man! You still got your original copy?

@@StewTube Editing question for you. This is contingent upon you using Premiere Pro for editing so fingers crossed: How do you make the blur and background effect in your video (see 2:34 for reference) with a focused lucid image video in the middle?
So you wanna stack 3 video timelines on top of each other. Place 3 identicle clips on each timeline in the same part of eachtimeline
Layer 1 the base you wanna zoom alot and add a "gaussian blur filter.
Layer 2 zoom out the clip so it's like a smaller box within the screen and brighten it up so it's solid white. This will be your border
Layer 3 will be your actual lucid image clip. Just zoom it out and position it so it's almost as big as layer 2
I use sony Vegas pro 17 but any editor should beable to do this
Next stream ask me and I'll probably beable to explain it better
It took me a while to realize you were saying T69 420....
Lmao im surprised I didnt get more comments abut that lmao

Ill be back to the grind with a new lets play on friday stay tuned man! Feel free to rejoin the discord the dooshbag is gone ;)
This and Front Mission 3 where some of the best ps1 games.
Front mission is sweet dude!
T69420... haha wow
His name is T260, and the dude Taco who restores him at the beginning of his story line adds a G, making his name T260G.
Lmao yeah I know we came up with T69420 durong the live streams. O figured itd be funny to call him that in the video ;)
This game makes final fantasy look like a joke almost lol
Yoooo that name for T260G is TOO GOOD :)
Lmaooooo
I realized that leveling up or obtaining too much gear per character quest was a waste unless it's the last character to beat it with
@@Tonberryscactuars this is the exact experience I had with this game.
@@StewTube it's a great character to explore the game with but not an easy one to start with. I probably played 6 hours with only blue before I actually recruited another character. I blew through his story the 2nd time I played it.
I started with blue but was encouraged to change to red and I'm glad I did because of how blues story ended. If you know you know ;)
I hope with the remaster saga frontier captures some attention in the west. It made little impact when released here and its one of my favorite games.
Lol. T-69420. Thats funny.
Its T260-G.

Im hyped for Saga: Emerald Beyond. I'm hoping the franchiae finally gets love like it deserves
For sure saga frontier 1 was amazing idk how it got so overlooked
This game is hard as heck.
But yes I do see the replay value in it.
Asellus is my favorite character too.
She needs her own game!
@@StewTube indeed. That mystic, half-blood kind of thing, the music and visuals are just amazing. I love that atmosphere in Fascinaturu.
@Dennys Francisco
Couldn't agree more! Plus the optional endings!
I agree Red is a good first pick since he’s the most linear. Though Asellus and T260g aren’t bad picks as well.
Just got a ps vita to play this on an emulator. I still own the 1st and 2nd on PSx! It's my go to hidden gem!
This is the most hidden gem hidden gem
I watched 90% of the streams live but I still probably learned more about the plot and combat system from this review lol. I also get really hung up on the space/underwater issue. A baseball drummer doesn't bother me as much though.
Same baseball drummers are whats most important here.
Legendary ive only beat red and Riki so far but dammit this is Legendary
You definetly gotta play asseluss story!

@@StewTube sure thanks gotta do my research so watching will help nice again!
Yup yup! Really wish she had her own game! Her story also has 3 differrnt endings
I do appreciate the question though! I don't get asked my opinion very often in the comments :)

This is literally the only game I'll be excited to pay for dlc to expand the story.
Is there a dlc planned?
Lute was my favorite character :'( RIP
Lmaoooo dude I'm so sorry
The game being the way it is, every character can become strong. But Lute does start as a "blank slate" XD.
If anything I always felt Riki was pretty "meh"
I think the lack of story for lite is what bugged me his character concept is cool the. A drink ladies man bard? Hell yeah lol
Gurl Lute was always the first to learn the advance sword abilities so idk what you saying. He'll learn Life Sprinkler almost always first.

Wow, I remember playing this game. Was really looking forward to it after all the hype from the Japanese releases. This game was absolutely terrible and put me off JRPGs until I gave FFXII a chance. So boring. Should have stayed in Japan.

@@Kamikang thanks man!
facebook saga group wouldnt let me post about how i beat 2nd div. all bosses with blue only , and any boss there with just 2 monsters in the team on rikis save. other saves i could have seen what 2 or 3 teams i could beat end bosses with but i gave it a break there, also beat asellus giant in the intro before leaving chateau. she beat him solo without taking any damage using DSC and she had dodge tremor and some other dodge the other one that helps you with the giant lol was a lucky playthrough. if i had white rose with asellus was even easier she would cast mirrorshade, da-dum, or magic heal lol.
Why you gotta get me hype at 4:21 a.m..
