Best video yet and you just saved tons of money for your followers (who are new to comics). Just wish this was out a few months ago, I’ve been learning through bumps and bruises. Great vid reg
*Big Fat Like* 👍🏻 The amount of patience and passion for this greatly detailed video is more than astonishing. Regie Collect is one of a kind channel. Keep up this amazing work!
Yet another great video Regie. I’ve needed this info/knowledge to help with my decision making when buying that next key book. Now I’m doubting my past purchases. Haha 😂 👍🏻👊🏻 thanks again.
I got you bro. There are a ton of great videos for new collectors on the channel. Generally speaking if you search UA-cam for “Regie Collects plus a term,” you should find videos. You can also reach out on IG. 👊🏾 Good luck at NYCC. I’ll be there.
What a great video. I've been looking looking at this specific book for a number of years. I own two and an additional one that's incomplete so I'm always trying to find a deal. Right when this book was displayed in the screen I immediately guessed a 2.5 before I knew the cover was detached. That's a 2.0 all day long IMHO. One thing I learned from this video is to look for bleed through on the inside of the back and front covers. I will be looking for that from now on. You've made dirty grading surprisingly clear :-)
Ask me how I know about bled? I accidentally purchased a book that has been color touched by an amateur. This was within my first 6 months of returning to the hobby. I will never make that mistake again professional color touch is harder to spot and isn’t a “dirty grading” activity. 🤪
This has been very helpful, especially the CBCS grade page, that will be my reference guide now. Unfortunately especially with the ebay market you have to be very careful, people present things in such a way that can be deceptive to the buyer. What i tend to do now is ask for more pictures if enough isn't provide or they've taken it at such an angle (usually to hide something), and more so again when i think it's just a stock photo. I've started using Adobe Lightroom (I'm a photographer) to help zoom closer, take away some shadows if required etc, to give me a more clearer look at the condition. With it I've been able to pick up on more dents, ticks or bumps to the comic then I usually would have. Giving me an good idea as to whether its worth the asking price or the standard i want for my collection.
Boom! Love it. At the end of the day, you are putting yourself in control. Putting yourself in a position to make an informed decision about how you spend your 💴 . Salute. 👊🏾
@@RegieCollects I'm learning little by little, your videos and recordings are immensly helpful. I've had good success today in the blue ocean after watching your video, got me some Booster Gold niceness for way below FMV, and its a beautiful copy! Chuffed!
Great video Regie, I was looking forward to this one. I’m getting a little better at the dirty grades, it’s definitely something that takes practice. Thanks for the great info as always!
I get undisciplined every-so-often and purchase raw, expensive books off eBay. I end up regretting it most of the time. It’s a challenge for the seller to get it all right: Take all the right photos, describe and document all the defects and grade it correctly. It can be done but I berate myself after, not the seller, because I know better. One of the reasons when I occasionally sell raw books on eBay I undervalue them to make sure I cover the perceptions\perspective ‘it’s an art’ grading books. Great 👍 video.
I always undergrade too. I usually put my listing up with a range. Like between 4.5 and 3.5. List the defects. Take a bunch of pics and then price towards the low end of the range. I also have a 48 I bought off eBay for $103 like 20 years ago. I’ve always graded it a 1.8 but it’s probably closer to a 2.5. Still I’ve made out ok on it from an investment standpoint. Reg you are the man! This is a great video. Too bad overstreet stopped selling their grading guide. That thing is my bible.
Thanks for the video Regie. Even though I'm already doing a lot of this when I evaluate the grade of a book, it's reassuring to see I'm on the right track and came up with pretty much the same as you. 👍🏽
I am glad that I have started dirty grading books that I see online. I have had to walk away from a few items that were way over graded by the seller. The problem with being more picky about grading before you purchase anything, is trying to convince the seller that his grade was a little off, without insulting them. Some dont take to kindly to that. lol But as a buyer you need to do what you need to do to not be taken advantage of. Great video Regie. I learnt even more about quick dirty grading. thank you.
Whoever thought that was a 6.0 i want them as my CGC grader. I'd say 1.5 or 2.0 at best because it's detached and there's chunks of the cover missing so we're on the same wave length. Whenever i buy raw older books i always eyeball it then think of the grade i'd give it then minus a 1.0 for CGC lol and that's how i usually make offers on the books i've picked up over the years.
as soon as I saw that first picture my mind went straight to thinking it was a 2.0, but then again I have been grading comics for over 50 years using the overstreet standards for the last 35 of those.
My initial thought was a 3. When you detailed the cover defects I lowered my estimate to a 2.5. After you broke it down, it is likely no better than a 2. Very informative video. Thank you.
I always check a seller's rating on Ebay. In general if they have had a good number of sales and are at 100% or maybe only had 1 negative feedback in the course of a year I've always received books in the grade range listed.
Would a popped (seller described as detached bottom staple) be green label or hopefully a universal grade? Not sure what the line is between blue and green for the staples. Really 50/50 with sending my X-Men #50 regardless of grade but would prefer to get it back with a blue label haha You got me directed to this one hehe really love your videos. So much passion in describing the comic collecting experience and pretty friendly for newbies ❤️
Thanks for the feedback on the video. I think I already answered the question however. I do not believe that a popped staple will result in a book getting a green label. To be certain you can always email CGC to ask the question.
@@RegieCollects oooh they reply to emails! Thank you haha ya you did but wanted to include that it's detached. Not sure if popped and detached mean the same thing really.
Question Hey Reggie, I'm a huge fan, and props for doing what you do. I have about 7500 books in my collection, and over time, I have accumulated maybe 200-300 dupes and overage of books that I no longer want. They are from all eras except the Golden age, and no keys are involved. I aim to trade these books for new stuff even If I don't get the best "exchange" rate, but I don't want to get raped. For some reason, I don't think an LCS is an answer since they are in business. Any ideas or thoughts? Many Thanks
A lot will depend upon you and how quickly you want the books gone. You may have a challenge finding a single private collector that is going to want a random set assortment of non-key comics. You may be able to sell the books individually but that will take time and you may end up having to ship books which means that you'll need supplies. Your best best could be a LCS, local dealer or What Not seller that are always looking for inventory.
How often do you do dirty grading videos? This type of videos are really helpful when trying to buy a book on eBay , specially when it comes to the seller saying I’m not a professional grader and they give a book a 7,0 grade 😁
I have several videos on the channel regarding grading. This is the only video on dirty grading. The video is really about a methodology for quickly grading a book so it’s not something that needs to be repeated, if that makes sense. Does this help?
great video regie....can you do me a favor and grade my ff48?? I can't tell if it is a 9.4 or 9.6. lol. actually im serious. my lcs owner believes its a 9.4
Pull up the CBCS guidelines and examine the book while look at those. It will absolutely help as you look at the book and the guidance for those grades.
Hey my man.. did you stop making videos? You are leaps above the rest in terms of alpha and all around presentation.. I stepped away from this space for a min, but I’m back and was hoping you had some recent vids.. please advise, and much love
Overstreet is fantastic but grading companies do not follow overstreet to the letter. They have adapt Overstreet-for better or worse. To this end, using the guidelines post to the website could be more helpful for the purpose of submitting books for grading.

Hey Reggie. CBCS just announced they are launching their own census of their graded books. They sent an e-mail within the last hour.
Aww snap. I’ll look for the email now. Thanks bro. It was in my spam filter.
@@RegieCollects No problem. It's also on their main page now.

I feel you bro. It’s better to disclose all the defects and price the book appropriately when selling to avoid any issues. Versus the opposite.

Lol. Sometimes you just gotta get dirty bro. A quick dirty grade will prevent someone from catching a brick.
TY FOR THE INFO
I understand how grain photos happen in low lighting, but hazy pictures?
Old phones are sometimes used which do not have great camera resolution.
The pix of that first FF book were very good and very helpful. Some sellers are kind of shady with what they are willing to present.
Blurry pictures are not the jam.
Are CBCS guidelines better than CGC for dirty grading? Or same?
Use the guidelines of the company you are submitting to
