The Vietnamese culture in the Houston-area in particular, is such a wonderful part of Texas history! The Vietnamese are a big part of the modern fishing industry of Texas. Mekong is a delta. Mississippi River region is a delta. I've watched and have enjoyed the incredible assortment of Vietnamese restaurants that have blossomed all over Texas since the 80's. Thank you so much, Mikey Chen, for covering some amazing restaurants in Houston. I look forward to trying each!
Well Said!
places i recommend in houston:
-pho dien
-bun bo hue duc chung
-confuscius seafood
-phanh ky
-tan tan
-kim son (buffet at bellaire location/ dim son at stafford location)
-crawfish cafe for viet cajun
i hope you get to check these places out one day! with love from a houston native!
next time I come to Houston, take me around.
yes, these are my family’s favorite places too!
Great list, Kathy!
Pinoy gourmet in sugar land if u want the best halo halo and family owned business
Kim son buffet
I like that he tries to focus on the food and the place while also making sure his guest are part of the food conversations so they dont feel left out. Also, I like that he's eating with someone. Again, food tastes so much better when you have someone to share it with.
It's probably his GF who he is eating with.
The “guest” is his gf
@@dwaynethewokjohnson6646 He did call her Christine which is his GF's name.
Really? I prefer eating alone than eating with someone. I can enjoy it much more.
@@havu2236 At this point in the video he did not introduce her as his girlfriend. Its only been recently that he actually talked about her and have her be a part of the video but limited to interactions without revealing her privacy.
Well gotta say, I stand with Mike on the need to prove to aunties that we can eat what we order.
This one time my sister and I went to a restaurant and ordered our favorite dishes, separately, and this aunty came to talk to us and told us the portion was too much for just two of us and it would be a waste. She recommended cancelling half our order. My sister and I just looked at each other, smiled, thanked her and asked to bring the food. Well we not only finished every last bit, but found ourselves wanting more..
Good times..😁
Also, leftovers box is nice for another meal the next day. yes, it's mindful when someone else is paying, but stupid not to get while the gettin's good! Lol. ✌️
Just when you think your day is going downhill Mike Chen posts a video and makes it better again😂
But not just any video, a Pho video
Just when you think you're full... Mike Chen posts a video to make you hungry again. 🤣
Facts
My thoughts exactly!😀
100% concur.
You should ask for red peppers and cut it into the soup. The spice is much better than Sriracha in the broth. For Vietnamese food always ask for the red/ghost pepper ..... so good!
I've been in houston for 13 years and im viet. These are the main spots I hit up for authentic delicious viet food:
*dish they specialize in, name of restaurant*
banh nam- nam giao
bun mang vit- bun mang vit thanh da
banh cuon- thien thanh
pho - pho binh by night or yummy pho or simply pho
bo ne- bo ne houston or pho bo to & bo ne
pha lau (EXTREMELY "from the motherland" type dish, not for the squeamish)- pha lau houston
banh bo chien- tan tan
canh chua- tay do (off hwy 6)
just a few. The best part is most of them are around china town or alongside bellaire! Enjoy eating foodies
Thank you😸
Thien Thanh and Nam Giao is a must try!!!
Thank you
"it's not spicy enough"
- Mikey's gf
That's how you know she's special ❤️
Dats right ,really rooting for them two.
@@abhimanyupanicker7234 oh darn 😂
Honest mistake 😂
I knew it! Mike finally found someone that practices "spice kung fu."
Special? You will be surprise when u came to asian country
@@nomoresht513 it's special in western but common in Asia
My husband and I love that you moved to TX cuz we live in houston and are still discovering all the great Asian food here. More Houston Asia town videos when you come please!!! Love to Christine, too. It’s so good to see you happy with a kind partner. Happy eating!
Ca Kho To is my favourite dish ever. My mum used to make it weekly for me and my bro as kids.
And yes it’s true, “it’s not that sweet” is the best Asian compliment for dessert. ❤️
You just scratched the the surface of Asian food in Houston, you need to go up to the Spring and 1960 area to the west side of Highway 45 ( referred to as North Freeway) Multiple strip malls of nothing but Asian restaurants.
Any suggestions for Pasadena/Deer Park/La Porte or Webster area? Tend to feel like we've got the short end of the culinary stick a lot of times.
Can you name a few good ones? I live up there but don’t know where to go!
I live up here now, Fu Manchung in Spring off FM2920. Awesome food!!!! Great staff! Plz List other delicious Asian restaurants near Spring! I also love Sitar Cuisine of India & Namaste. 💜
@@matikz Nam Mi is a clean little hole in the wall on Spencer. Ribeye Steak Sandwich...best sandwich in the area. Pho Vi-Vi is just about right across the street and has good food too. Both close to beltway 8. Pho Central across from the College is good, quick and cheap lunch eats. Otsuka Ramen & Bar is right next to it, is beautiful and Japanese instead of Vietnamese and excellent also. Pricier.
@Guillermo GuyFawkes haha it's okay to eat in those places if you don't want to drive far, but as a Viet in Houston, our community swears by Vietnamese food in Bellaire
The “building with the crown on top” is where I work! It’s Memorial Hermann hospital. ☺️ Hope you enjoyed Houston!
so happy you're exploring the food scene in Houston. Houston really is one of the most underrated food cities in the country.
Houston definitely has one of the most diverse and best food scene in the country
I love pho. With my dietary restrictions and not being able to have dairy. It works so well with it. And the bone broth is really good for me and chrons disease.
What is in the bone broth that helps you?
@@GeekyGirlsNightIn collagen gelatin and glutamine. Other things in bone broth are good for people with crohns or IBD and so on
What the pho
that's awesome that something good for you is really delicious too
@@lilly_koii also love ramen too lol. But I like asian cuisine because of the fact they dont use dairy much in their foods
I love these Houston videos. I live 3 hours away from Bellaire and constantly take weekend trips out there! I’m compiling a list of all the restaurants since Mikey only knows quality! 👌🏼
I remember going to a Chinese restaurant in Houston and I sat there and ate everything and the Auntie there was shocked I ate it all 😆 And it was on Bellaire to. All the restaurants there, it's like you'd have to go everyday to find a new place to eat.
I loveeee Bellaire Chinatown. 💗
Same. Always go when I visit my sis over there. I hate that mybsis lives there and but happy for here and gets to go to these places
I love that when I watch this channel it makes me want to travel and eat
The fact that you went to Que Huong made my day 😭 I’ve known the owner since I was a kid and I love his food!!
Call your place Sugar & Spice and you can serve the sugar cane drinks and dumplings with Mikey Chen's hot oil.
Yesss I’m a pho connoisseur and the pho fix broth is literally the best. And I’ve eaten at several Vietnamese place in Houston. They’re chili oil is my fav too
I'm so happy you liked the Arabic ice-cream and kunefe and baklava!
Its so nice to hear when people enjoy Arab foods!! :)
I love it! 😃
Nothing like Arabic desserts..❤❤ All time favourite..
Good food is for All the People!!!
The broccoli tease 😂 🥦 it’s a life-long grudge!
Looking for this comment 😂😂
Most of my hot pot, dumpling, buffet and kbbq knowledge came from Mike. I learn something new everytime I watch you. Ooohhh, and I end up always hungry too! 🤣
Same
My sister and I tried Big Dash today (Sat evening) and it was wonderful! Thanks for featuring them. We had the stretchy ice cream, one that was more of a sorbet and a brown Kinafa. They had a steady stream of customers
You know shes into you when she increases her spice tolerance !!
So glad you found Ca Kho To and Canh Chua. It's what we normally eat at home. Kho just means caramelizing/braising with sugar and fish sauce. You would probably love Tit Kho (there's chicken, but the pork ribs version or even Chinese version with pork belly is amazing)
There is nothing on this earth that can help you feel better than a well made bowl of Pho. Thank you so much for all your videos and showing us the different places to eat around the world and US. Thanks to you I started Latin Chopsticks and currently I just focus on all the amazing places where Disney World is, Orlando FL. Hope I keep growing and one day I can have a meal with you on a video together. :D
Just lost my job. Here is Mike enlightening up my mood.
When you were eating kunefe, maraş ice cream and baklava i thought you were going to talk about Turkish food and was ready to cheer that you liked them so much, but still your enjoyment of these foods made me so happy as a Turk. Keep up the great work man, love watching you eat and exploring all the places you go. Lots of love from Istanbul 👋🏼😊
Sick with a respiratory infection, ordered some pho and Mikey drops a video 🥰 Definitely putting my pho to shame with that oxtail lol but enjoying eating pho while Mikey eats pho 😅
feel better!!!
What a coincidence, i also have a respiratory infection and im eating pho rn,
@@mr_lemonade3453 hope you feel better soon! 😊
You’re a true Texan now. You always stop at Buccee’s between cities! 🦫
Buccees in Katy is my fav.
I feel like a kid going to Toys Rush everytime I pull into a Buccees
I always eat the pork sandwich at Buccee's
*This is not a plain Mukbang video, this is One of the EXTREMELY SATISFYING Videos of the Day* 🖤💗
Pho Fix is my husband's favorite! He even brings his own bowl and spoon! So glad you got to try them!
Ikp
Thanks! I really need videos like these to keep me busy and look forward to trying them in the future especially during these times where we have to stay inside because of local transmission of covid around my area.
this man always uploads at the greatest times to save me from the doom of my boredom XD
Hey Mike--it is great that you have been able to move around the country/world more lately. It looks like you are having a great time.
Ahhh! Yess So glad you tried the Mekong soup, or Canh Chua(Sour soup)! It's one of my favorites, the temple I usually go to serves a vegetarian(?)(I forgot if it had eggs or not) version with soybean imitation meat, which is super yummy over rice. The pineapple gives an extra boost of sourness and sweetness if it's sweet pineapple.
Broth so good he looked around pissed. Had to find out who was responsible for the deliciousness lol. Thanks for the amazing food videos man.
Wait…why hasn’t Mike been invited to Hot Ones 🤔
Not spicy enough
"Its not Spicy enough...." INSTANT LOVE FOR MIKEY
Mike I am craving Vietnamese !
Mike needs to start carrying his own “ bib” just in case
Great vlog !
why doesnt Mikey offer Strictly Dumpling branded bibs?
@@stevec8522 I’d freaking definitely buy it!
@@iraidushka yess me too, reusable bibs in a cute dumpling washable case or something
K'nafeh is the best!! For those interested, the outside is shredded dough, not noodles, and it is absolutely delish!! 💕
“I wonder if I just”
Continues to lick the sauce off his shirt and arm, had me dying laughing
Simply pho in downtown Houston... Ever since the first day I have never been to any other pho place truly the best
I hope you’re happy and safe, Mikey!! 🤗
Missing the price tags for every meal you used to do.
But appreciate the constant uploads of videos that are 30+ minutes long.
Been following main and this channel for 6 years.
At least one meal a day i eat together with you.
Looks delicious! When the food fell out of the sandwich that was me every day of my life. All of my older shirts are the stay at home stained shirts.
Best food critic and taster!! So awesome to see u so happy . Love is a great feeling!! Dont let her gooo !!
Christine be like "It's not spicy enough". Me: perfection 🥺❤️
You can tell how happy you are with Christine!!!
After marrying into an Asian family I now know the “not too sweet” comment IS the best compliment😂
I have been watching you for a while now and i am so happy you are in my home town showing me new places to check out.
Can’t wait for the video when you introduce Christine to your parents in New York.
Same here! That’s more interesting than the food
Is Christine the GF? 😄
Same here!
@@FOFA1630 Yes!
Congratulations Mikey, is she Latina with the name Christina? I'm thinking of the food combinations now...
Man, when Mike licks the sauce off of his shirt and arm? 💯% ME TOO 😂
I’m glad he found someone, but now he has to share food.
Lmao so true 🤣
Well maybe he gets to try even more dishes now he has someone to help him out.
Pho is my absolute favourite thing in the world. It’s the perfect meal
Mike you know you be eating some good food, Loving the Content!! ♥️♥️♥️
Having a good food companion for Mikey is just the most wonderful thing in the world. Mikey + Christine = 4 Ever
She is not christen.....
@@Omega65713 he referred to her as Christine at the end when he was doing the sponsorship
being from houston, it's so cool to see you try those food places!
Mikey: "I think we can do level 3"
Also Mikey: *Sweating and red*
Was it because it was hot in there, or the hot soup, or the heat level of the dish?
When Mikey licks the sauce off his arm and top… you know it had be a good sandwich ☺️😋😂
The ca Khoi to (clay pot fish) with the soup is my favorite Vietnamese homemade dish! I’m glad you enjoyed it
I need to try some of this food and drink the drinks... I wish the UK had some variety like this!
That building with the "crown" on top is the Memorial Hermann medical building at Memorial City, right across from Memorial City Mall. I knew what side of town Mikey was on the second I saw that building.
"You've been practicing your spices kung-fu? " 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hear me out...
1. Stay in a place for a fee days and do a meet and greet and let people go eat with you. Plan an itinerary and say post it on Instagram. Let people meet you and just go places, share an interesting meal, vlog it and also give these restaurants a financial boost
2. For a big subscriber monument let one of us fly out to meet you at ur nyc restaurant and do a mini food tour
Maybe I'm just a fat fan girl but those would be stellar lol
This is what my Saturday needs..
Heart attack at the age of 45?
Iam so happy you found someone to go out with and travel with.
I think that one chili really hit Mikey hard. He was fine until, "Yeah you can eat these!" *crunch* next scene is him sweating profusely lol
Kunafeh is made from a phyllo dough that is shredded and a little thicker. There is also another type of kunafeh that is made with a more crumbly type of dough. My father likes the crumbly type more but I have always liked the shredded version best.
I am on a current binge of your videos since they are so awesome and currently pregnant and kinda have the morning sickness. feeding the eyes 👀😂
You could name ur drinks place "(sugar) cane you believe it?!"
Also. I love ur videos. I'm bedridden but you make it possible for me to see the entire world. Thank you so much for that. And it's good to see you so happy. Lots of love from the Netherlands ❤️
When are we going to get another scary story time with Mikey? Those are my favorite episodes!!!!!
Que Huong Bistro is my favorite restaurant in Houston! So many great dishes to eat from. The older couple who runs the restaurant are so nice! Glad you got to go to one of many great restaurants on Bellaire!
Yes Mike, you found the one. Make sure you hold on to her tight!
Btw, how's your puppy? She was so smol the last time we saw her on your channel!!
Puppy lives with sophie.
Houston has some of the best Asian restaurants in the country especially in Bellaire. I’m glad you enjoyed your time here.
How is he not married?? All his jokes are dad jokes.
Hi mr. Mikey Chen !!! My name is Danny Phan. I am the son of the owner of Hoa map hu tieu go. I would like to represent my family and say thank you for visiting our restaurant ! We would love to see you again if that is possible! Thank you.
Hoa map hu tieu go.
I was at the market to purchase supply while you were at our restaurant. And my mom said she saw you but she was a little shy to approach. She said one of the customer had pointed you out. 😅
Mikey: "Not spicy enough."
Me: "What the hell are you?"- Predator.
Hi Mike!!! Love your videos and thanks for supporting Hong Kong!
Mikey’s dad jokes on a whole other level since his girlfriend came into his life lol
I literally screamed when I found out Mike is stay at the condos down my street!! That building with the crown is Memorial Herman Hospital😂 I’m fan girling sooooo hard😭😭😭😭
I think she is a keeper Mike, she keeps you from naming your products after dad joke memes :)
Yes my hometown Carrollton,Tx lots of new places opening up!!!
Hey Mike. You keep going back to Carrollton, and I totally understand that, as there are so many good Asian places to try out there. But I hope you're aware of the concentration of Asian restaurants in Plano, right down the street from your apartment, yes? There's the Jusgo shopping center at Legacy and Central, as well as the 99 Ranch center at Spring Creek. And on the other side of Plano, there's a huge Asian shopping area at Park and Coit. I hope you make it out to some of the dozens of places in those spots soon. :-)
The fish is called "Cá kho độ" or VIetnamese braised fish, these are usually catfish cook in a special clay pot, allowing them to have a special caramel flavor. They are often quite salty and made to eat with rice.
The "mekong soup" is in a more direct translation Vietnamese sweet and sour shrimp soup. Usually, my mom cook this as the soup for our home meal. This dish have a very satisfying sour taste, and require shrimps to achieve the right traditional flavor, there are many variations of this dish.
Hey Mikey, you didn’t lose any ingredients on that sandwich,
your shirt ate it all.
That's 'Cá Kho Tộ' which is the caramelized fish is go SO good with rice. Glad you enjoy Vietnamese foods so much Mikeyy
“Have you been practicing your spice Kung fu” ahahaha
I keep watching your videos during meal times so that I don't feel lonely.
Those dry noodles looked so bomb
like ur mom
@@epitaph20 what the hell?
You talking about the instant noodles...?
Fun fact: you can sometime get them for 1 dollar in Vietnam. One more reason to visit Vietnam 😉
Ikr? I'm goin for lunch tomorrow.

This guy makes me hungry every time I watch. Oh god.😋😛🤪🥰
You need to try the banh mi bo nuong (grilled beef sandwich) at don cafe on bellaire. It’s super good
I went to The Pho Fix this past Sunday and can say that the broth was extremely savory! Very satisfying
it's 0700 here in Chicago, I'm watching Mike eat all these great Pho dishes and I'm getting hungrier with every bite he takes...
Mike just got the girl of his life.
*God bless them for them to get married and be happy with each other* 😊😊❤️
I've replayed from 10:13 about 30 times just to hear the crack 🤣
If you find yourself venturing a little further south of Houston, you should check out Tookies burger place in Kemah, TX. Best burgers around I think.
I always ate the bone marrow when I was a kid and the rest of my family thought I was nuts. You used to be able to get beef bones super cheap or even free, now they are way too expensive. I remember my mom going to the butcher and asking for the free "dog bones". We did not have a dog but she roasted them and made broth out of it.
