Briggs and Stratton 6HP Vanguard

My Briggs and Stratton 6HP OHV Vanguard stationary engine that i scored from a mower shop for 20 dollars. All that was wrong with it was a sheared flywheel key and a blocked air filter.

@benrobinson72 I did a valve grind on it and gave it a little extra clearance so they don't burn up. It's a lot quieter now.

Yes cleaned fuel tank, fresh fuel, fuel lines clean, good fuel flow, gas in carb bowl. I have three Hondas, weed wacker, air compressor, genset, not near the trouble

The vanguards are usually pretty darn quiet too, at least the 6hp one I had was.

@CJO740 the Vanguards are good strong and reliable motors, but they tend to be more expensive than an equivalent Honda which are just as reliable.

you lucky guy, these are great engines, ive also got one, but these things can cost up to 500 dollars

@pivotboy63 these vanguards are commercial grade but are more expensive than inteks, and inteks aren't as heavy duty as vanguards.

No they aren't, they are made by Daihatsu, as you can find out on the company's website for Vanguard.

No, only the v twin vangurads are made by Daihatsu the single cylinder ones are made by mistubishi

My 6hp is really quiet! Runs a few seconds and stalls. Had it off twice soaked in carb cleaner blown out with compressed air. Good compression, good spark new plug. Will run with a gasoline soaked rag over the air cleaner. Take it off engine stalls. Obviously a fuel problem. I am a diesel mechanic by trade. Gas engines GRRRRRR!
