I add a good dose of black cumin, turmeric, garlic, onion, chili powder and cayenne pepper in my beans every single day, because of the sound research Dr. Greger has brought to light. I'm in my late 40's, 120 lbs (lost 50 lbs going primarily WFPB), not on any medications and I feel better than I ever have in my life! Thank you, Dr. Greger, you are my hero!

A little black pepper immensely increases the key active ingredient of turmeric absorption BTW.

@@Madasin_Paine oh I did not know that, thank you! I always use a lot of black pepper so that's awesome!

Sara, love to know how much of each you are adding to beans.

@@dianecreasey6617 I use about 1 heaping teaspoon of black cumin and 1 heaping teaspoon of turmeric per can of beans as I really like the taste of both. Initially I wasn't sure about the turmeric but I've acquired a taste for it and actually enjoy some turmeric green tea and turmeric ginger tea in the evenings. It really doesn't take much to reap the benefits though. And since Dr. Greger's video on nutritional yeast I've been adding in nutritional yeast, I would say about 2 T. per can of beans. If I don't have fresh garlic and onion on hand, I just add a generous amount of onion and garlic powder. I like kick in my beans so I'm generous with the chili powder and cayenne pepper, but Dr. Greger notes the research on revving up one's metabolism by eating spicy foods in his book, How Not To Diet (which I highly recommend). I get a lot of the nutrient dense foods in with my beans, and then I get several of the daily dozen items in my oatmeal (I add frozen blueberries, grapefruit, apple or banana), ground flaxseed, 2 T. walnuts, almonds or PB2 and sometimes a splash of almond milk when I feel festive lol). I also eat greens every day and a lot of them, and though I include a variety of veggies with my greens (I just buy the organic spring mix that includes 4-6 different types of greens), I always include broccoli sprouts as the science is showing those are also a super food.

My husband and I have been on a health journey this year (2022) and discovered a lot of contradictory information. In addition to removing chemicals from our home and going to clean label products, we have been plant based for a month and learning from several documentaries - with you featured - we discovered your website and synthesis of medical journal studies /articles to help us through to the truth! My journey is with hypothyroidism (non-Hashimoto's) and multiple sources are telling me to make bone broth and eat grass fed meat or wild caught fish. My current physician does not listen to what I've learned and only wants to prescribe something else (I am looking for a new physician). Aside from these few videos about the hypothyroid diet - are there other studies or resources for this journey? Please keep up this great work!

I get pain in my thyroid when i take iodine but omit cofactors vitamin a and selenium. So betacarotene deficiency may be an issue? (Pain seems located in a small knot. I am also prone to iodine induced hypothyroid, wolf chaikoff maybe)

I understood that black cumin reduces blood pressure, in the case of a patient who has Hashimoto's disease but also glaucoma (where you have to keep the blood pressure within normal limits) it is advisable to consume it ? What do you recommend for glaucoma! Thank you !

Doesn't ALA (and the EPA it's converted to) increase T4-T3 conversion efficiency, so maybe if you eat a lot of greens and Omega 3 rich seeds and plant based EPA supplements, you don't need as much iodine?

I have been WFPB for years following a diagnosis of Ulcerative Colitis which is an auto immune disease and I have been in remission for a long time. Unfortunately in 2019 I developed Hashimoto's after suffering from two viral infections. I take a medium dose of Levothyroxine every day and my Thyroid antibodies are now in the normal range. I would like to reduce my medication to see if my Thyroid can function properly without the drug but my doctor is reluctant to try this.

I didn’t ask my doctor. I stopped the thyroid meds and told him I stopped them. He was horrified and immediately ordered bloodwork. My thyroid has been holding its own for a year and a half with no meds. I have Hashimoto’s. Someone with Hashimoto’s can actually reverse damage and go off the meds, which cannot be said of those with non Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism.

Good afternoon, I have been following an exclusively plant-based diet for about 15 years. I have had my TSH for some periods of my life too low or slightly higher than normal. Highest when I took 1 gram a day of kelp for several months, then cut it down to half a gram a week and saw my TSH rise above the limit again. I am now waiting for the urine iodine results and will see how to supplement the iodine. What is your advice and what should I do? Thanks and good job

I have mild hypothyroidism and I take a small dose of medication. Firstly, I'm going to have the mercury fillings removed from my teeth to see if my thyroid becomes more normal. Toxic Mercury, which may or may not affect the thyroid in some people, has been in my teeth for over 40 years! I tried to go totally vegan, but I just can't, not for me. I need the occassional egg or fish fillet. We'll start with the toxic mercury and see what happens.

Why doesn't this channel have any videos, where the important subject of ANTI NUTRIENTS in plant foods is discussed ?
ANTI NUTRIENTS make the absorption of nutrients difficult.
Consumption of plant foods may REQUIRE the proper preparation of these foods before they are consumed.
How about doing a video on that ?

    • @rockybukus

Because you shouldn't major in the minor details. Are you even able to follow Dr Greger's Daily Dozen every single day without fail?
The plant based doctors and researchers have a tiny amount of discrepancies in what they believe in, but why should you care about the 2-3% difference when the rest of the 97-98% are the same. Do the 97-98% and you'll live a healthy life... . Heck it actually, perhaps doing 80% is already enough for you to live the best life.
