- Okay, there are scammers and then there are 'scammers'. This is what I call a smart scam. This guy on our approach to the Sphinx flashed us his green badge as if to suggest he works for the place, like an official of some sort and thought okay. Then talking very quickly before we knew it he was taking these ridiculous photos that we did not ask for or want. Then he talked about himself and started describing the Sphinx shortly after in a short history lesson. When I said we wanted to go on our own he said we must tip him $100 Egyptian pounds each!! and when we refused he got very upset. To avoid these kinds of scammers, unless you really want to listen to them and pay upwards of $200 EGP for 30 minutes of time then you cant look at them or say anything. Say no and walk away, do not engage at all or else even listening to the smallest suggestion they will demand a tip.
حسنًا ، هناك محتالون ثم هناك محتالون. هذا ما أسميه عملية احتيال ذكية. هذا الرجل الذي كان يقترب من تمثال أبو الهول أضاء لنا شارته الخضراء كما لو أنه يقترح أنه يعمل في المكان ، مثل مسؤول من نوع ما ويعتقد أنه بخير. ثم تحدث بسرعة كبيرة قبل أن نعرف أنه كان يلتقط هذه الصور السخيفة التي لم نطلبها أو نريدها. ثم تحدث عن نفسه وبدأ في وصف أبو الهول بعد فترة وجيزة في درس قصير عن التاريخ. عندما قلت إننا نريد أن نذهب بمفردنا قال إنه يجب علينا أن نكرس له 100 جنيه مصري لكل واحد !! وعندما رفضنا انزعج كثيرا. لتجنب هذه الأنواع من المحتالين ، ما لم تكن ترغب حقًا في الاستماع إليهم ودفع ما يزيد عن 200 جنيه مصري لمدة 30 دقيقة ، فلا يمكنك إلقاء نظرة عليهم أو قول أي شيء. قل لا وابتعد ، لا تشارك على الإطلاق أو حتى الاستماع إلى أصغر اقتراح سيطلبون بقشيشًا.

The biggest mistake you could make is to give these people money. Giving them money just encourages these scammers to continue.
I was at the pyramids last week and this same guy approached me... was wearing the lanyard and said "don't worry I work here, I'm not trying to hustle you"
tried to ask for my phone to show me how to take a cool picture of the sphinx. I firmly told him no twice and he threw a strop and walked off saying "fine, I just wanted to make it fun for you. No problem."
The guy had slime ball written all over him
I came back from Egypt 2 days ago. 80% of the time out of 2 weeks is dealing with these thieves... they want to extort money from you , even the police :D
Just came back from egypt . There are scammers everywhere . Starts from the airport when you land and you take a taxi.the people are so deceptive . You just have to b very vigilant .The country has so much to offer beautiful beaches and temples but behaviour of the people is too pushy and aggressive towards tourists . Would not go there again
I'm here in Egypt now. When I'm at any of the archaeological sites, I always have a hard blunt attitude towards these awful people. I give them zilch. Modern Egypt is a dilapidated dirty place. Ancient Egypt is extraordinary. Thank God I live in Vietnam.
There are some lovely locals there, I would look to purchase services from the people further away from the entrances and the not so popular spots. I think the more manipulative sellers push their way into the best spots and leave the less popular places to the nice, gentle locals.
Too many of these scammers in the Giza Pyramids ruins the mood of the trip and destroys the mind. Wish you a safe and enjoyable trip.
The important thing is to firmly reject the demand for unreasonable payment of them. no matter how little that money.
A little more regulation would do some good in the area 👍 I believe the Egyptian government will improve things over time to make clearer for visitors.

You know what would be a dream come true; going to Egypt and not encountering a single hustler or scammer... how annoying wanting to enjoy something on your own but having to deal with these type of people.
Heres something i do know and it works all the time; i hiss like a cat at them and run away! lol
As an egyptian myself, I find this tactic of hissing hilarious. I think i'd run too XD. But to be fair, most Egyptians don't like these scammers either. They make it harder for honest workers to earn a wage because their harassment and hard-sell tactics annoy tourists so much they don't want to talk to anyone.
Plan is very simple don't talk with strangers until there is no genuine reason.
Why not tell him to bugger off right away? Why go with it if you want to experience the place on your own? Why allow yourself to be taken advantage of? Why why why?
Yes, that is the thing. Because they chat with you first and offer you advice without you asking for the advice. I even had some guys pull at my head scarf and say you have it wrong let me fix it for you. Then you let them fix it, and they demand money for doing it. You literally have to ignore them, just do not talk to them and keep walking. Coming from the west.. we are not used to that, and I wasn't either. The sad thing is the scammers at the popular spots like behind the gate.. take money away from the genuine people who are working, usually further away. The scammers are very confident and know they will see each person only once so it doesn't matter what happens as long as they get the money from each person at least once. They make their living this way.
@@AlienInteligence101 What I know for sure is that this will not happen to everyone. Only the gullible. It is easy to say no and tell the guy to bugger off. It does not require a large tought process. It would not happen to me, guaranteed.

So it's mostly them getting scammed out of their hard earned money since the scammers think of all of them as rich
Although in reality sometimes actually they are more wealthy comparably at the end of the day in comparasing to their country

The funny thang is he offering his services which nobody asked for and then after he finishes off; he asks for a lot of money and when you refuse to get overcharged and pay for something you didn't ask for, he gets mad and rude as if you forced him to do so and your are not giving him his money that he must get, and all that just because you tried to appreciates him by patiently listing to his bullshit.

When Egyptian merchants offer honest prices and are friendly, tourists will feel better about Egypt and will give them tips.
Most Egyptians are nice and kind, but some merchants, barkers and drivers have fall the image of Egypt as a whole cause of their scam. There are too many scammers, especially in the Giza pyramids.
Having experienced the scams of such merchants, I do not want to visit Egypt again.
Or just do not give them money and just say no. You are going to find scammers and people that wants to be dishonest no matter which country you visit.
It’s just not true to say that most are nice and kind.
Scamming and hustling is an integral part of the culture.
Let’s not sugarcoat the issue.

Hustlers are fake and illegal .. Don't blame then give money.
They make about $10.000 monthly or double sometimes and you are the ones created them, so.. don't complain.
Guys. Dont pay more than EGP200 per Canel/Horse ride. These touts cant do anything to you. Just ignored them.None of them working with the Govy except those useless white uniform police guys. Basically, you’re safe in this area.

Same thing happened to me a week ago when I was there, and at other sites. These guys attach themselves to you whether you want them to or not, and expect money at the end.
Then just say no. The problem is when you give those people that are pushy money you kind of agree with it. Just say no and walk. If that guy tried with me I would say: I did not ask you to tell me anything and I will not give you anything and then just walk away from him.
Its one thing to compare for ex 2 western countries. But You can not do that kind of compare with for ex Egypt. We still have a lot more money then they have , its NOT the same thing.
Apologies it sounded like that, but I believe not for individuals, but yes the Government and local organizations may have more money in some countries to others. But we all have our own individual financial journey regardless of where we are from in the world.
Have some autonomy, you're too soft with people. Shame next time be put your foot down
