I just have to say this is one of the best tutorials I've come across. I just changed the battery on my 2013 MacBook Pro. Very thorough, easy to follow along. I had no problems following along - took me about 90 minutes. Thank you so much for doing this.

Thank you so much for a great video! the battery cells on my my 2015 are not bulky but, it no longer charges and I was not confident in replacing it myself; now I know what to do, thank you! I miss the good old times when laptop batteries were just one big piece that snapped in place

Thank you for the most helpful video on the subject! I almost ruined mine when i squirted the solvent underneath the middle batteries, as there is a plate there. I also accidentally put my card underneath that plate, as there is a gap just wide enough, but the battery is above it, so I was propping a metal plate instead of the battery. I don't understand why Mac have such a strong adhesive to begin with, there is nowhere else for the battery to move! An extra screw would have done the job. The variety of screws is also unnecessary, I think. Thank you for saving me a small fortune!

You can leave the top connections of the speakers and the bottom of the trackpad in place too and still remove the battery, since there's no point making the job harder than it is.

I was super nervous about changing the battery on my 2015 Pro and considered paying to have Apple to replace it, but I stumbled across this video and you did such a great job detailing each step so I thought I would give it a shot. I was able to do it and didn't run into any issues! Thank you so much for your help!

I was able to do it WITHOUT using acetone. Just stuck a screwdriver underneath the flat-cells, & lightly leveraged upwards. The sticky stuff gradually unstuck itself. I used rubbing alcohol to clean off the excess glue

Huge thanks for the very well made video with clear explanations! I was able to replace the battery in my MBP, however, when I turned it back on, the keyboard and trackpad wouldn't work anymore. After a quick Google search, I ordered a replacement cable for the trackpad connector (6:28). I changed it today and it works perfectly (I'm writing this comment with my MBP. Many thanks!! :-)

    Great tutorial! Thanks a bunch.
Just want to add, using acetone to dissolve the adhesive is very important. Trying to pry the batteries up without it, especially around the trackpad area, can easily damage the trackpad. I thought I could skip that step and yup, trackpad is damaged upon re-assembly.
    Lesson learned!

Thanks for the well-shot and detailed video. Your procedure worked so well and saved me taking my MacBook to the repair shop that would have charged $140 per hour and said he could do it in one, possibly two hours. The one missing piece to the video was a reminder to re-lower the little black flat on the bottom of the trackpad cable. After reassembly my trackpad didn’t work so I rewatched the trackpad disconnect section of your video and just reversed it. Tiny little detail that makes all the difference. Thanks again for an excellent video

The screw that holds the battery in place (top right corner) I can't seem to screw back in. I'm hoping the adhesive holds it. I was very fortunate in that the previous owner had the battery held in by packing tape so it just peeled off.

May I ask you a question Rick. Seeing it is so difficult to remove these batteries do you think one can get by installing a new one without the adhesive label taken off to make it easy to replace next time. I need to swap a battery shortly and given the full backing adhesive of the new batteries I was thinking not to stick it down which if tight enough might just do? What do you think. Many thanks for your videos which are very informative and helpful. I asked this question also on your earlier video but wasn’t sure which of them you would notice.

you coudl have gotten the solvent under the metal plate(there is just enough gap there for you to think it's underneath the battery. Or, you haven't used enough solvent and were pulling on the central battery too much. Or the trackpad connector isn't fully inserted.

@@AT-gu8by Correction-just found out that my rattling wasn't from the swollen battery, the left speaker, which handled the bass and had stronger vibrations, has a thin rubber ring broken. I just disconnected the speaker. But you can also buy a set of speakers and replace them(it's easier than replacing the battery!) I didn't bother because I mostly use bluetooth speaker or headphones. But I did have a rattling noise when the battery got swollen in the bluetooth speaker, so who knows... Good luck!

There is always a risk. I didn't find this to be any riskier than working on other parts of the computer. I wouldn't think about working on a computer without having a current backup if the data on the computer is important. Also, if the computer is vital for work or school, I would have a backup plan in case there was a problem. That being said, that is good advice even when you aren't working on it because you never know when a computer is going to break.
