I have made about 8 checkerboard quilts since seeing your quilts. I have started incorporating my "orphan" blocks in with the checkerboard blocks, usually running them from corner to cornrr.
Almost 80K! That is awesome! I've been following you for a long time. Well, since the beginning of my quilting journey. Your videos are so fun and informative. I always learn something or you shore up some tid bit of knowledge I want to learn more about. Thank you!
Hi Pat,I have just found you, I heard so much about your beautiful quilts ,and your books,I will be visiting my local quilt shop tomorrow,Yah Thank you.
Ooh me - ooh me! Ha ha. My day just got ent complete without hearing you say “Hello my friends , it’s Pat Sloan”. I’m going to get my sisters, cousins and husband to subscribe to your channel today! Love you my friend 😘🥰💜
Could you make your show longer LOL, wink wink 😉 I usually watch your show as my morning wake up ritual… and sometimes I just don’t want the show to end cuz I’m just enjoying sitting here with YOU and don’t want to get going on my day 🙃🙃☺️
Your use of the 2" blocks just makes me happy! And motivates me! I vote to chop off some of the center square to fit -- it's such a cute red & white creation. Lots of fun stuff this morning! Thanks for your videos.
My mother and grandmother both used a sprinkling stopper in the top of a soda bottle to moisten their ironing with water or starch. When they wanted a really stiff starch result, they would mix up a solution in a basin and dip the article into it, hanging it until it was just damp before ironing.
Wow! Almost 80 thousand subscribers!! Amazing! You are so fun to watch & I am always learning something just about every video. Thank you so much for doing the videos!!🥰😘❤️💚💙💜💛
Pat , on the red one with the space you could use a white background and using red or black you could embroider a sweet saying in these two spaces. Just an idea.❤🙂
Pat, concerning the red quilt...try moving the two side squares to middle of the center design. Then add a piece above and below the two side blocks. I can visualize this. What do you think? Suzanne
Good morning Pat, I fell in LOVE with you after watching the Basal cell episodes, I am an every 3 month body check girl. had a atyp melanoma last year and SO I retired! Thank you for all the inspiration in life and in quilting! I am a Quilt for Ukraine participant. Just sent 7 to the Czech with my future daughter-in-laws Mother 10 days ago...checkerboarding here I come! I look forward to watching you daily!
Wow! Lots of fun things today! I am in love with your scrappy 2.5” blocks. I have started my own but as a quilting newbie, my scraps don’t fall into major color stories yet! LOL The pops of red in the aqua blocks are awesome and really elevate the design. I am crazy excited to begin Summer Camp and can’t wait for the BirdSong QALs and the book sampler! Whew, it’s going to be an awesome summer! 😍😍😍
I am motivated now. I have so many 2 inch squares that were gifted to me. I have a couple of panels so hopefully I will be able to make a border using the squares. Once again thank you Pat. So many very useful ideas and tips tonight.
Love love love the birdsong fabric!! Can’t wait to make a quilt. You have inspired me to make a checker board quilt and Inhave started saving 2 1/2” squares.
I have been doing four patches as my leader and ender projects, and seeing how you do 16 patches makes so much sense. It was like a light bulb going on. Four patches are great but you need to do a lot of planning to use them. The 16 patch is a block ready to go! Lightbulb 💡. Thank you.
Hi to the Sloan Zone! Table toppers and smallish artsy quilts excepted, I prefer bed shaped (rectangle) quilts. I was kind of visualizing the red and white quilt with stripes between each of the side squares to keep the rectangle shape. I know square quilts are very popular and I'm in the minority, so regardless, I'm sure your quilt will turn out beautiful. I mean...red, red, everything red!!
Good morning! Love the squares blocks! Love the red strips top! (FYI: I love super scrappy anything, LOL!!) Have always loved your "color + light squares" quilts. Have long wanted to make an "all yellow" quilt and have quite a bit of stash but haven't decided on what to make yet. Maybe this would be a good way to start off.
I wonder on the red strips quilt if you could add a scrappy sashing between the blocks on the sides to fill in the spaces and then you wouldn't have to rework the center??
I bought the fat quarter tower for midnight moon and I starch the fabrics as I am using them. It doesn't seem like such a mountainous job that way. Love the strawberry quilt. I made it earlier this spring and it is at the quilters now.
Good morning, Pat. I have a suggestion for your red scrap strip quilt….. you could just put a red or blue wide stripe where you need to add or remove fabric. Im just kind of random like that. Would be just a pop of fun, and done.
Pat, you could embroider 2strips (either label, flowers or positive sayings and put that in the extra space so you don’t have to do a lot more more on the strip quilt.
Hi Pat! I love when you show your blocks from squares! I only wish I had that many blocks 😊 And of course love, love the red & white strips blocks. I made some like that I think it was last year when Gudrun had a sort of challenge idea to use up 1 1/2" strips. I had quite a bit of a honey bun left over from another project that I used. I ended up with 18 of the 7 1/2" blocks! I used 10 for a table runner for our coffee table & am still contemplating what to do with the other 8. Also, just did Gudrun's recent "Strip Along" using jelly roll strips. I did mine 8 rows across by 12 rows down. After watching you so much, I decided to sew them together into "chunks" of 4 x 6 blocks. It was SO much easier & more manageable to have 4 larger sections to work with than 12 rows!! Thanks again as always for your great tips 😊
Pat, keep it simple and chop off the bottom of the center square to point where it is even with adding the triangle blocks evenly! It will appear as an "ECHO" down the center and wouldn't have to be a perfect square. Like it??? It is such a lovely piece as it is!
Here is a suggestion on the red striped block quilt. Could you center the two blocks on the right and left between the square middle block (vertically) , then add a red/white sashing on the top and bottom of the middle blocks. Create a red/white "register tape" piece the width you need to cover that gap, both top and bottom. This way, you don't need to rework the middle section. Seems it might be the fastest way to solve your dilemma. Thanks! (Cindy Ratliff)
I love the small squares and the color coordinating that you used, they are beautiful. I did see the bird pattern material that you came out with and it is lovely. I hope to receive some including the blue panel. Thanks
An idea for your red and white strip quilt. What if you move one lattice block (each side, right and left) down to meet the bottom row. Then the gap is right in the middle of the rectangular center. Create a horizontal strip of the reds so that it looks like they're radiating out from the border of the rectangle. If you keep the size similar to the border of rectangle, then it looks like you' d have to add white horizontal rows. But that might work to fill in so that you can finish it with what you have and still look like it was designed that way. Hope this makes sense.
I'm looking forward to the birdie block, so cute! & I would love to win!! I would like to catch up and do Won't You Be My Neighbor quilt:) Love love the aqua!!! We just painted our bedroom a pale aqua b4 hubby had knee replacement surgery. I love aqua ❤
details at my sew along website and tomorrow I tell you more on my videos.. so always watch my daily videos www.ilovetomakequilts.com/2022-summer-camp-qal.html
Could you rotate the red and white strip top and one turn would make it bedsize in width and you could add blocks to the new top and bottom...just a thought. I love your blue squares, too!
I’ve watched the lady from fat quarter shop starch like this and her layer cake squares end up 9.5 x 10”. Shrinkage happens. So my Q is do you mix starched and un starched fabric in the same quilt. ? Thx
You could just design two 8-inch spacer blocks to go in the border, then you don't have to change anything else. The design could relate to the centre square design.
Where can I find the pattern for the square inside patter and the border diagonal blocks. Thank you. I’m just smitten with these patterns. Help , please
Congratulations on your subscribers! Almost there. Love that scrapalicious red & white quilt. Maybe a crazy idea, but what if you used a bit of math to make two bands to fill in the blank areas? With strips of fabric going back & forth faster than the blocks?
I starch heavily like Kimberly from FQS. I guess bc that’s how I learned to quilt. I’m almost afraid not to starch lol. But it’s also a burden when wanting to piece and not having done the pre work…
I know that you use the design wall & move blocks around, plan your next colors, etc. For the checkerboard, do you shuffle the 16-patch units? I see the black polka dot as an example, will you try to disperse them throughout the top with purpose, or just sew them together randomly?

I want to make a checkerboard quilt. I just can’t decide on a color way. I like so many. 😂 Bird Song quilt will be spectacular!!
Dark charcoal gets my vote Pat! I think that ties it all together the best!

I have already ordered my panel and a fat quarter bundle. Yeah!!!!
Great information today! Thanks for all your help with improving my quilting.
Aqua, aqua, everything aqua! ;) I love every shade of blue, but aqua is one of my favorites! So pretty.... :)
Just add a red stripe on each side of the block where the open space is. It would look great!

Love the little birdie. And the new fabric. I plan to purchase some.
I’m so excited to see the Birdsong fabric is arriving! You make me smile everyday, so thank you for that! Have a lovely day!
Made me laugh! ‘They all have to be mess around with!!!” Yep. That what it feel like when you get stuck into the endless layouts!
Make the center a square:) It be so much easier! I like the aqua quilt, too:)

Am working on 2 1/2 blocks also...it is sew fun!!!!!
I got my book for the table topper and I love it. just can't wait to get started on one.
Make crumb blocks going east and west in the middle. Easy peasy
I wonder on the red strips quilt if you could add a scrappy sashing between the blocks on the sides to fill in the spaces and then you wouldn't have to rework the center??
i lose the secondary design
@@PatSloan didn’t think of that.
I would chop of red & some of white strip then add a correct size red to make central fit 💕
I would keep as is and put a sashing on the two sides of the rectangle in the middle between the blocks.
Love your idea of the leaders and enders to make your 4 in quilt blocks!
I bought the fat quarter tower for midnight moon and I starch the fabrics as I am using them. It doesn't seem like such a mountainous job that way. Love the strawberry quilt. I made it earlier this spring and it is at the quilters now.

Do a set of smaller blocks to make up the extra space and put them in the middle
Just ordered the Bird Song fat quarter bundle. It’s so pretty and a little different than the other popular fabrics right now.
Good morning from MS
I have the Strawberry pattern. Will get the fabric. I didn’t realize there would be a kit.

Love your red quilt can't wait to see it finished
Ordered your bird song fabric in the pink color way on Saturday! Cannot wait to see it in person!
Good morning!
Don't cut it off just put a strip on the top and bottom in a solid red. That would give it balance and have a small place to give eye to rest!
I agree with Deb Pat~ Don't cut it off
Could you sew the 2.5” squares on the top and bottom of your Red quilt and this would give you the center length to finish the scrappy quilt??🥰🥰
Here is a suggestion on the red striped block quilt. Could you center the two blocks on the right and left between the square middle block (vertically) , then add a red/white sashing on the top and bottom of the middle blocks. doesn't that lose the secondary design?

I'd be tempted to add PIECED coping strips to the center square.

I am also working on quilt with just 2 1/2 inch squares. Mine will be 72”x72”.
norm would have looked great in those aquas and whites
On your red scrappy quilt, how about putting some sashing with the side blocks to make the sides longer? Would be an easy fix!!🧵
i lose the secondary design
@@PatSloan Oh shoot, I didn't think of that! new plan!!

I wouldn’t cut the center red block. How about incorporating some scrappy spacers between the two side border blocks, at the center point?

How about a mini piano strip to act as sashing between your blocks. Using the same colors . Then uou don't have to use Jack.
then you lose the secondary design
couldnt you take the side blocks, split them and add in between them

Good morning Pat. What if you put a border print or a themed wide strip on the top and bottom of the center rectangle??

Or maybe coping strips to continue the horizontal stripes of the square.
