@@pokeyrella I was looking for a unique lap quilt to go with my wheelchair. After 3 brain surgeries, stroke and failed lumbar shunts, I am regulated to a motorized wheelchair.
I'm about 5 years behind on using up scraps. I got sick about 5 years ago and now on top of that...70 is no fun LOL. But I'm determined not to leave behind a pile of scraps and other things for my family when I exit this life. I really love the the choices you made with this one. I'm feeling inspired especially because I actually started sewing again about 3 months ago. And trust me, I could go into business with just scraps. It's crazy how much I've accumulated. I'm trying to complete 30 quilts by Christmas for all my nieces and nephews and my 2 granddaughters. Wish me luck lol. I'm also working on memory quilts for my two sons with all the clothes I don't wear anymore. It's so much fun. Can't wait to see more of your videos. I just found you and I love it. You're a doll!!!
Thank you for the really clear explanation for the corners of the binding!! LOVE the quilt design! And I'm in awe of the your machine quilting! I would love to learn how ... might need some more courage to try.😊
Just found your channel. Thanks for this tutorial. A great way to use up scraps. Loved your quilting on the back. Brilliant! Any chance of giving us a tutorial on the quilting technique you used? I have tried free motion quilting, and everything looks like long fingers or really uneven stitches. So again, thanks for your instructions. Really enjoyed it.
I love this video. The music is so relaxing. I love to sew and the music is so much better than listening to someone tell you their problems. I would rate this video as a 10 plus. I’ve sewed since I was 11/12. I’m 73. Wish I knew the song. It goes so peacefully.
Ooh, that came out so cute!❤ And I know ow what you mean when you say you just want to use your scraps and get it over and done with. I’ve made quilts before that I just wanted to get rid of that “stupid fabric” and almost quilted angrily because it just felt like a chore and both times, they came out great and they are sole of my favorite quilts because they were complete surprises. 😂 Karen Brown quoted someone who said there is no such thing as ugly fabric, you just need to cut it more. (That was absolutely not a quote…I’m terrible at quotes but you get the gist of it). Just cut that fabric into smaller pieces or use it in a scrappy quilt and it will blend into something fabulous and useful.
Thanks for demonstrating how you folded the corners on your binding! I had tried this kind of self-binding technique a few times, but always struggled with how to get a perfectly mitered corner without it ending up weirdly bulky and/or wonky. I'll try your method the next time 🙂
I enjoyed your video. I have a jelly roll of tiny florals similar to your fabrics. Now I know what to make with them. It might take you an hour but I’m sure it will take me a lot longer. Self-binding is a huge time-saver!
I really enjoyed being with you....not only for your great approach to using scraps. You taught me how to spray and iron to prep for quilting. Now, if only i could master the stippling part. Great tutorial.....thankyou!!!
Looks beautiful. I'm going to make a christmas table cloth using this idea of the backing folded to make binding. Great tip! Thank you so much for making it easy to follow. X
I love it. I'm thinking for a 13:20 car quilt! Appreciate the reminder that scarppy quilts do require a lot more forethought, planning, and precise cutting!
Love your quilting! I’m trying to learn to quilt my own quilts and you have really inspired me to keep at it! Thank you! In the US, we call that type of binding economy binding.
Stunning colorful quilt! It looked easy to make. The prints of the scraps is like eye candy. Very pretty fabric and how you put it together. I made one quilt for my 3 year old grandson. Boy, I needed help with putting it all together and the binding. It was a bit sad but it keeps him very toasty warm and he can use it for a few more years.
Hi karen. I've only been quilting since July, but only once chosen to do a basic quilt using 4" which was a babys pram/crib size. No cutting needed. My other quilt projects have involved cutting and sewing 2.5 hst. I need to give myself a break and choose a really easy quilt this time, and after watching you make this quilt, its perfect for my next quilt. Thankyou for your tutorial 💞
I love watching your plan. I’m repairing my daughter’s Amish quilt while watching you. I’m planning on using fleece pieces that I bought along time ago as batting. I eyeballed it and ripped the fabric to get it straight. My son-in-law found some matching fabric. We bought the quilt maybe 20 years ago. You are more sensible than I am. 💙
Gorgeous!! ❤❤ I just found your channel and I love your energy. Fairly new to quilting and at first I wasn’t sure how all those scraps would work together but Wow! It is fantastic. Love how you explained how to mitre the corners.
Just a sewing hack . I use a small piece of masking tape to mark the lines on my cutting mat when cutting blocks. Faster and easy. Just line up and cut as this eliminates counting the inches each time. Great quilt! Also love the music.
The only time you need to make bias binding is if the edges of the quilt are curved. Otherwise, you cut strips, sew them together to make a long strip, fold it in half lengthwise, iron it, and sew it to the edges. Plenty of binding videos on UA-cam to learn the technique. Hope this helps!
I love any size quilt . I would like it a little lagers so I can have it a good size to keep super warm in a cool weathers. I am a large so a larger size is good for me. Thanks for all the helpful tips. Faye
