- Honda Civic Mk / Gen 8 Boot Leak.
Have you found a water feature in the boot of your car yet?
If not, your time will come...
If yes, watch this episode to see how I sort out my boot leak out and banish those soggy carpets.
All jokes aside this seems to be a really common issue with Honda Civics and there seems to be multiple ways for the water to get in.
Thanks for watching.

There is lots more great content to come from both the FN2 and the E46 including Track days, Repairs and Mods.
For those new to my channel, I try and do as much auto mechanics on my cars as possible. I'm very obviously not a mechanic, I just have an interest in repairing and modifying cars, and track driving.
Currently, my BMW E46 330ci is my track car and my Honda Civic Type R FN2 is my daily. The plan is to modify the FN2 with the aim of getting my racing license and turning the FN2 in to a dedicated amateur race car.
The E46 is very much a budget track build, however I am still trying everything I can to get that Castle Combe Circuit lap time down...

Nice to find a properly detailed video about this, have the same issue with my fn2 at the moment
Thanks buddy 👍 These mk8s love a good boot leak 😁
@@ModFix yup, mine came with a free swimming pool. Bought the car when the weather was alright, then few weeks later noticed that my groceries acted like a sponge
Oh bugger! Yeah both of ours had a water feature!!
Great vid, really informative & easy to follow. Seems to have fixed mine, bone dry boot for once! Thanks pal
Thanks for the kind comments mate 👍 Glad it's helped to fix the leak. Mine is actually still dry!!
Just watch this vid as had the dreaded boot leak the last few weeks. Car was constantly steaming up and the boot was a pond. Copied everything you did and after last nights rain downpour it was a relief to go out and nothing inside. Great detail in the video and sorted my leak. 👌👌👌👌👌👌
That's awesome buddy 👍 Glad it helped you sort it out 👍 The boot leak is such a pain! Thanks for the comment 👍😊
Tell me about it worse thing ever to deal with and makes the car smell horrible. Like a wet dog. Thanks again my man 👍👍
Pleasure mate 👍
My absolute pleasure mate. Thanks for giving us the opportunity and all your support 😎 👍
Thanks so much for such an incredible piece of work mate. You are a true master 👍😁❤️
@@ModFix hello, just came across your video.
I had an issue with some engine oil spilled in the trunk.
Long story short, my bolt also snapped.
Is it bad ? The bolt just holds in place the plastic and the carpet ?
I stopped cleaning the trunk at the moment the first bolt snapped.
I would like to continue, but i am afraid that the other bolt will also snap.
Thank you.
Hi 👍 Yeah that bolt just holds the plastic in place. I wouldn't worry too much
@@ModFix oh my god, thank you so so so much for the ultra fast reply.
i panicked out of this world, i hope the other one will come out as it did for you and will not break.
thank you so much again and have a great day
That's okay. I'm forever snapping bolts 😆
Yes I have the same problem on my Honda Civic I think it's a common water coming in from the roof as I need to investigate nice video
Hi , did u sort yr leak out ? If so where u find the leak, mines doin my head in
Same on my EP3,leaks in from under the roof rail, down inside of the rear pillar into the boot, dry the boot out then using a hose pipe or jug of water pour water on to a section, check for leak, keep doing that until you find where it coming in, nearly always the roof rail/gutter.
I have the same issue.
A rear passenger asked me why is the seatbelt damp, after investigating I found water in the boot well as well as a little bit in the rear footwell.
Pain in the ass.
Shouldn't be happening on so many Civics.
With regards to the rust between the roof and the windscreen seal, you can get that seal replaced if its less than 12 years old, get in touch with your local Honda dealer (I tried two, one refused and the other did it through warranty).
Such a pain in the arse mate. Seems to be okay since I fixed it. I have a new softer window seal now as I had a cracked windscreen replaced 👍
Great vid
I just have the rear seat belts getting wet but no boot leak
Thanks buddy 👍 That's a bit of a strange one. Not heard of that happening!
Just found mine to be leaking. Wet seat belt in the back and damp headliner in the back. The heat shield on the exhaust was rattling so due rust the mechanic decided to weld it back on. Whilst driving a hole for welding water poured out of the hole from the boot.
That's a bugger! I think all mk8 civics will end up with a boot leak at some point unfortunately. Hope you get it sorted 👍
This was really helpful 👍 I have a leak in my 5 door , thought I’d fixed it with the roof bit but no 😔 will do the cluster light soon, hows yr cars doing for leaks?
Cool, glad it was useful. Mines been okay since (so far!) 😆 I know some people get a leak from the actual boot door too, so that might be worth looking at. I would have done that next if the other areas didn't fix it. Cheers 😁
@@ModFix my leak just seems to be on the left side of spare wheel compartment, so hoping it’s the cluster light, it looks a bit dodgy compared to the other side, boot door seal looks ok , will see.👍
My leak was coming from the diesel cap latch, an easy fix but hard to find
@@robertwalsh5203 wat u mean cap latch ? The hinge or the drain hole, I did notice one time after filling car up about a week L8r the rubber line attached to the petrol cap was sticking out abit
You know the rubber latch thing that pushes in to lock the diesel cap door closed its to the right of the filler cap. mine had water coming through there, and mine was also mainly wet from the jack area dripping down to the left spare wheel area
Bit of a dose to change indicator bulbs after sealing that white clip though I’d imagine.
Is not too bad. Just peel off and reapply 👍
@@ModFix
Handy.
I have water coming in through the rear body seams, so I’m in the middle of tiger-sealing them up.
Another entry point is the filler cap surround.
I just did silicone where the light attaches otherwise it would never come out again 😆
Thanks for your video my guy, I also have a Civic Type R FN2 and the f***ing boot light cable got stuck inside the boot itself while I was changing the bulb to a led one.
This boot is a bitch to take apart, I'm currently following your diy guide.
The FN2 boots are nothing but trouble 😆 Glad the video is useful mate 👍 Good luck 👍 😁
@@ModFix thanks
Hi! Thank you for so amazing fixing Video. Do you know if was this problem solved for the models after 20xx- built year? I am looking for an Civic VIII 2011, and wanted to know about it. Thank you very much in advance!
Hi, Thanks very much. No, I don't think it was fixed for any models, unfortunately. Mines is a 2011 model.
has it stopped leaking since this was done back in March 2021?
Yeah it's been dry ever since?
Did it completely sort the leaking?
Yes
Is it fixed ? Just used the video to do the same
Cool. Yeah it's been dry ever since 👍
Could I ask after 2 years is it still leak free?
Yeah still leak free 👍
😁 All the Honda's I've had leaked water, the steps are the same. If you wanna keep your Civic for a couple of years, seal it.
Great video.
I was installing a rear cam when I found out I had a swimmingpool in the back 😂.
Cheers
Thanks 👍 😊 Yeah they all end up with a swimming pool at some point 😆 🤣
Would put me off buying honda again
It is a pain in the arse! Not sure if newer Hondas have the same issue.
@@ModFix thanks for making the video and sharing the knowledge! Very Much appreciated
Thanks for watching and commenting buddy. Much appreciated 👍
