BASEketball - Overachieving at Underachieving!

- There’s a forgotten chapter in the saga of Matt Stone and Trey Parker. In between South Park’s early success and their big-screen hit, South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut, which gave them legit critical respectability, the pair starred in a movie for Airplane- The Naked Gun director David Zucker - BASEketball. It remains the only project the two have ever acted in that they didn’t write, direct or produce themselves, and it was a major box office flop that’s become unfairly obscure over the years. But, if you grew up in the late nineties and liked South Park, chances are you saw it when it hit video - and probably more than once.

The Jazz moved to Salt Lake City where they don't allow music.
That's Too Bad 😔😕😭💔
The Raiders moved from Oakland to LA and back to Oakland again. No one seemed to notice.
“The Lakers moved to Los Angeles where there are no lakes…” 😆
"Look, I don't have your fucking ball!"
It's "I DON'T HAVE YOUR FUCKIN BALL, DUDE!!!!"
"... good luck next year..."
BASEKetball is one of three movies in my entire life where I had to take a break, because I was in PAIN from laughing so hard.
Along with airplane and holy grail??
Don’t forget AOD
I'm on the same page as you are with this movie. It's so effing hysterical and it was cool to see the late Robert Stack RIP working with the Zuckers again after it had been years since he worked with them doing Airplane. That stuff with him doing an Unsolved Mysteries episode on Coop and his dissappearance was one of the cherries on the cake of this movie.
Agreed. It hasn't aged at all. Still as funny when you watch it today as it was in 98 =p
Same. Also South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut haha I had to go to the cinema twice cause I missed half of it cause I was laughing so much
I miss movies like this.
I love BASEKETBALL. Squeak was my favorite character. Doug's "inspirational speech" he gave to Squeak before he went to bat always gets me.
lol it SHOCKED me when l heard this movie wasnt written by Matt and Trey. It total feels like a live action south park ep at times, especially with how they treat Squeak. It's very much like how they treat Kenny on the show 😂
The slept with your dead mom bit kills me everytime
@@OgreDLink "so that's why she didn't move much..."
You rip on me 12 or 13 more times? I'm outta here.
“Why am I doing this!?! Awwwwe, awwwwe”😂
Australian accent
"How to speak san franciscan"
"Vajoyna"
This was the one scene I showed to someone who had never seen the film before and it got a big laugh
“What?! That wasn’t a gay joke, it was an Australian joke!”
@@willrunriot the ferrys
@willrunriot the movie drop dead gorgeous is also a quote factory.
"The retards got his pants down"
This is still one of my all time favorite films. It was an instant classic.
"You kids with your loud music, and your Dan Fogleberg..." - Ernest Borgnine(RIP)
Hahahaha
This movie is comedy gold. It has the outlandish in-your-face gross out humor but also very subtle and dry humor that kills me. "Don. May I call you Don?" "Yeah I guess but..." "Don..." Priceless.
"Your life is spinning out of control..."😂
Seems the whole world is out to get youuuuu......
Even though some rich guys trying to black mail you and your girlfriend thinks you suck 😂😂😂😂

@@NRSagerOOLF🎶 and those warts on your dick aren’t gonna go away, unless you start usin’ topical cream every day 🎶
I saw this in the theater and was the first time I saw people walk out. I loved it
Shoulda threw popcorn at them and called them lame ass pussies
I'm sorry you're old. Do you have kids yet and have given your life away with absolutly no meaning identity of your own or were you unsuccessful in reproducing and will probably die alone having lived with no purpose?
Best part of the film? Robert Stack. I imagine Parker and Stone (and a LOT of us as well) were terrified of Unsolved Mysteries as kids. Seeing it pivot to a comedy with Robert Stack's same delivery is simply brilliant.
If you're looking for Joe Cooper I suggest you look wherever you find the most heinous, blatant and vile exploitation of children on the planet.
Scenario number two, Coop went to Disneyworld
Saw this in the theater opening day with a fellow South Park fan/co-worker. One of the only “R-Rated” movies that I ever got carded for at my local small town movie theater that I had been going to & watching “R-Rated” movies since I was around 12 or so (was around 17 when Baseketball released). Also was the 1st DVD I purchased after receiving my 2 Free movies with my initial DVD player.
Good movie, but that Dale Earnhardt cameo won the film.
"Can I go any *faster* ?"
One of the best comedies of all time!
Not even close. Groundhog Day is a 9/10 this movie was a 1.5/10
This movie is hiiiiiilarious. I own this one and Orgazmo on DVD, both are comedy gold. Trey and Matt are hilarious, but also Dian Bachar who is in both movies and is phenomenal at being the but of the joke.
I would recommend both, you won't be disappointed.
but do you have 'cannibal: the musical', trey and matt's first film? and dian was there too. and trey's dad.
@@leowatley I have seen it a couple of times, but it has probably been over 20 years since I last saw it.
@@jordibarguno it's so good. back when i was in college (2007) i was in a stage production and played the cyclop of the rocky mountains. 'are you looking at my eye!?'
That's not a gay joke, it's an Australian joke! Aww, awwww!
'...and the jazz moved to utah, where they don't allow music.' i fucking love this movie. saw it the day it came out in theaters and have watched it a few times every year since. so underrated.
"Gimme your blanket!!"
::guy goes flying 10 feet in the air::
I can quote nearly this entire movie, such a classic. "When you're down you just gotta get up, don't let them walk all over your face..."
Ill never forget when my cousin came to the house after just renting BASEketball from the local movie rental place. It was in 1999, and dvds were fairly brand new. We watched it nonstop, laughing our asses off the whole time.
Squeak: "Gaw damnit!! If you guys rip on me 13 or 14 more times, im outta here!!!"
Edit: By the way, this was on Amazon Prime for free streaming a month ago, i was able to watch it again for the first time since 99. So hopefully its still available so we can get a whole new generation quoting this masterpiece.
"Kid needs to work on his hands a little." "He'a blind, Doug."
Greatest take on modern sports and past slorts 👍💯
BASEketball is really funny, I own it.
I will always love this movie. A roomate and i 9 years ago didnt have the internet or cable and baseketball, cannibal the musical, orgazmo and all the current south park seasons were all we had to watch except for john carpenter movies and tropic thunder. One of the best times of my life.
I was in elementary, my best friend and I would watch this every weekend. He was killed by his roommate.
I still want a Beers jersey
"Heads up, big guy"
⚾️💀
I absolutley loved this movie, we used to quote it all the time playing basketball. Plus I recorded it on a VHS tape along with a few episodes of the Tom Green Show. That tape was pure comedy gold in 99.
Still have the movie poster too. Love this movie.
Great movie. Loved it when I was 16 when it came out and it still makes me laugh out loud. Dude!
Had no idea this wasn't considered very successful.. it hit me at the perfect age from my older brother who had great taste. It's a fantastic movie with their unique humor and like dumb and dumber their intelligence and self awareness within the roles/ balancing that line of serious and ridiculous - it's just so well done. It shaped my basketball years and friendships.
This is my all-time favorite comedy. It's CRIMINALLY underrated!!!
... Also, I saw it IN a theater. Me & 2 buddies were the ONLY people in there, opening weekend too. 🤣🤣🤣
"I swear, if you guys rip on me 13 or 14 more times, I'm out of here"
I remember renting this when it first came out. It had me laughing in the opening scene when the football players started dancing. Now in real life today, football players dance to the endzone for every play.
Absolutely love this film! Me and my best friend still quote it to this day!
I like the running gag with the Chrome off the trailer hitch
ok, the clips shown are hilarious. re-watching it....
I loved this movie and watched it a lot as a kid lol
I remember being one of maybe a dozen people in the theater when this came out.
Can’t forget one of the best jokes- “How did Shaq get rich?” “He got rich in college, everybody knows this.” 😂
This was long before NIL and when college was considered “pure and wholesome” 😜
Also the Zucker motif of having an all-time great athlete in his movies- Kareem in Airplane!, OJ in Naked Gun and Reggie Jackson in Baseketball(who was also on Naked Gun).
oh my goodness... Orgasmo and Baseketball. i loved them when they came out. their silly humor definitely was the product of its time. i wonder if they can still get me decades later. will have to check 'em out again.
The original short is Jesus vs Frosty and that's clearly what's being shown, but the narrator says Jesus vs Santa which was the premise of the "remake" released as an episode of South Park.
I want a 4k release of this so bad
The Spirit of Christmas was more like 10 years before youtube and didn't go viral so much on the internet, but rather physical copies passed around.
"hold my dip" still hits, to me, as one of the funniest gags I've ever seen on screen.
As a sports fan, having Al Michaels and Bob Costas as the announcers is genuinely hilarious. Having the same man who said “8 seconds to go, do you believe in miracles” saying “what’s really amazing is just 5 years ago, those cheerleaders were in grade school” is a level of stupidity and genius that few movies have ever reached
Also forgotten is their failed tv show: That's My Bush
While I'm not a south park fan these days I did enjoy these movies
Absolutely fantastic movie! 👍🏻👍🏻
"Hey Tuttle, your mother's deaf!"
"My mother's dead you idiot"
"Oh. I guess that's why she didn't move around much."
THANK YOU JOBLO FOR THIS VIDEO
BASEketball is one of my favorite comedy of all time my favorite scene from the film is the finger cutting scene (ouch) this movie is a underrated comedy of the 90s
And one of my favorites
This Film Also Spoof A Scene From Beetlejuice Which I Kinda Like It.
Loved this one, still love it. I just reconnected with it last summer. It's in my top 10 top comedy
I'll never belly laugh as hard as the first time i was watching it and all of a sudden.. ROAD KILL CAUGHT ON TAPEEE
Rented it when it came out on video a couple weeks later when my mom took us shopping I asked her to buy the vhs ..I had that vhs up until just a couple yrs ago when all the vcrs I had laying around stopped working
Absolutely love this movie!! But you did forget about another live action side project, That’s My Bush! Totally an underrated show too!!! :) in fact Team America was originally going to be the “That’s My Bush movie”
Remer: "Did Shaq get rich playing in Orlando?"
Coop: "No he got rich playing in college, everybody knows that!"
My favorite comedy of the 90s. We watched it 4 times the first weekend we rented it
Awesome till this day.
I was coherced into going to the theater to see this movie because my buddy was a big fan of Matt and Trey. Seeing it when I was younger was good. Seeing it now, I dont think I'd enjoy it as much. So I'll leave it in the past
This is one of the Greatest Movies of All Time!
Ernest B. was a Killer Fit for the Investor
I saw this in the theater 4 times.
Underrated gem
That movie is so good. I don't care what anyone says. One of my favorite comedies ever
Matt and Trey HATE this movie
@@lutherheggs451 Matt & Trey are dumb but this movie did suck.
Such a great movie.
Perfect weekend afternoon flick.
Still freakin' love this movie! It's a blast from start to finish. 🥰
Love this movie
My friend Mark and I are the only two people I know of who saw this twice in the theater
No mention of Robert Stack's cameo??
this was one the movies i watched over and over as a kid i war out the tape
Still a fantastic comedy!!
I love this film
" Chelsea Clinton?..."
"......you'd have a better shot at Bill. "
It was such a great comedy that I feel it's one of the classic underrated films from two great comic geniuses. Is it the best? No, but it was hilarious at the time, and still funny to this day.
WEEOO
Great movie 🍿
Does no one remember that the guy who played Tutle was E. Honda from the Street Figher movie?!
This is still one of the funniest movies ever made...Team America and Book of Mormon are genius but they will never top this.
We went through multiple copies of this movie when it was released. So fucking funny.
It’s one of my favorite movies
I saw this in the cinema.
funny film, quotable. great to get back to and watch. and, a few references in South park just shows, it;s influence and that Trey and Matt still have a spot for it. DERP
Its really unique that Baseketball is not an invention of Matt and Trey. I feel like explaining why is almost redundant.
A home run is behind the meatballs!
I gotta watch this again been a while.Shit is funny
Cannibal the Musical is a must, once a year (at least) viewing. It is truly great. "Ahhhhhhhhh, Utah"... :-)))
ME Mother Loved Mr. Hankie😊🎉❤. And So Do I!!!!
Kellene Erin Hubbard Harrison from San Francisco California but currently living in Dallas Texas
This movie is AMAZING idk why ppl would not like it!?.... i still do quotes and scenes from this movie with my friends and last week i did some quotes from Orgazmo, my friends laughed but not their gf!!!.... me and my friends are in are 40s, basketball and baseball are getting hard to play, maybe we should start playing BASEketball!?
unless im mistaken i think this film is the only time Matt and Trey starred in a movie outside of South Park
Dwight Yokham needs a video as I feel he's a very under rated acror (from Panic Room, Crank, 3 Burials, Sling Blade, Wilfred and more)and musician IMO.
Fun movie from a simpler time.
I never seen the movie when it first came out but watched a couple years ago and it is still enjoyable
This movie was great
I’ve only seen this movie for the first time a couple ago. I thought it was so funny. Watched Orgazmo the day before
Skid Mark Steve! You still hanging out & playing Nintendo?
ROADKILL!!
On Tape!
This movie is classic! Right up there with the original Dumb and Dumber.
Hey JoBlo! I hear your sisters going out with Squeak!
