I'm Roman Catholic from the Philippines. Would really want a dress that is inspired by the St. Niño to be worn at the Met and the designer would be Michael Cinco. I really love this years Met Gala! 😍 especially coming from my religion.
Gsos Seth no, that's not true. It depends on the person. Not all roman catholic are like that. Here in the Philippines a lot of ppl liked the theme of the met gala.
So some would think it's just a fashion video , and what I'd like to say that I am in Syria and I can't get out , and I can't see the world , but thanks to u u brought the world to me , I've never seen something more beautiful , I can never thank u enough for what u did , thank u for all this priceless beauty..all the love from Syria
No Chanel? Even her logo is inspired by the vitrail in the Aubazine abbey. Her only Haute Joaillerie collection is inspired by byzantin sacristy jewels, one of her most successful items are the armrings, which always come as a pair, with crosses on them. Her sense of black and white came from her youth in the Abbey. If there was a designer that is impossible to untie from religious, especially catholic inspiration, then it’s Chanel. She based her whole style on it. The little black dress, austerity, gold, couloured gems, that modern simple touch... everything came from the abbey.
Chanel is featured in this exhibition. Unless it's an exhibit on a sole designer, I can't remember when the House of Chanel isn't included in a Costume Exhibit presentation.
I have been wondering why the photos in the Met’s Heavenly Bodies book are so fragmented. It was really bothering me and felt like a poor artistic decision. But now that I understand how intentional it was and how it was done, I feel more intrigued than annoyed. I’ll need to look around for a more in depth explanation somewhere.
This was awesome But the pieces shown here were just rushed through flashes on the screen It was really not smart to not take a brief moment longer to actually give one a real glance to appreciate the details of the work for each individual piece🙄 Still left a Like 😒✌🏼
Simon Davies I’m not sure, but if you check out Alexander McQueen’s last show (that never was shown in a défilé), called Angels & Demons, you’ll find definitely similar designs. This piece could be McQueen from this show, as it’s a Hieronymus Bosch print, but the cut doesn’t seem quite accurate to me though. But you’ll see some Bosch prints in that McQueen show for sure.
if you've watched the other videos, they actually say that the dress is called the unicorn and was based entirely from the unicorn in the painting. just watch the other videos.
Hi, thanks for the long-ass answers. I point my finger at the numerous cases of catholic priests sexual abuse cases, because this video/comment thread is about catholicism. I'm sure other religions have this problem as well. Honestly wouldn't surprise me, religion has a way of attracting certain people (not saying all religious people are like this of course). As for the homophobia in your religion, I find it sad that you can't accept everyone, and that you base it on "well it says so in the bible". That's bullshit, honestly. You'll allow pedo priests but not lovely people who happen to love someone of the same gender. It realle shows how dated your religion is. Religions are man-made and so man can easily change them. You should really include homosexuals in your religion because you are making people resent catholicism. The bible was written by men, you can easily go back and change that part so that everyone can get married. But you know, that's up to you. I just think it's weird that many religions today are dying out, and none of you are making an effort to sustain it. If you want to attract the young, open-minded and free generations, you need to make some changes. It's 2018. No one wants to join if you're all close-minded and homophobic. But that's just my view, it wouldn't bother me if religions started dying out. You guys really mess up sometimes. As an atheist, I'd rather we just kept those religions that are nice and calm and treat people well (like those pagan ones? Don't know what they're called. Something about worshipping nature spirits. Sounds pretty nice and friendly to me). I think a lot of the bigger religions have huge issues (Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, etc). You should reform or something, but that's just my opinion as someone who trusts science more than religion.
lizzy tae Umm there's a difference. The Vatican approved this year's Met gala theme and it was attended by cardinals & priests. In case of Islam we all know their leaders won't approved & if history served us a lesson they can be very violent about it. So it's a big NO for them.
lizzy tae Also, dressing up as religious figures during festivities has been a part of my catholic upbringing. SantaCruzan or Flores de Mayo has been a 100 year old catholic tradition in the Philippines & has been acknowledge by the Vatican as well.
Just because Thom Browne is the boyfriend of curator Andrew Bolton doesn't mean that he deserved to be displayed in the exhibition . There are way more talented designers that should have been considered but were totally ignored. Also his gown was just made for the show , nothing in his work is connected with the exhibit theme ! Nepotisim ! Shame on the Met !
"Dude like religion is evil cause like multiple people died." Nice way to show you have little understanding of history. The Church persecuted multiple people but all religions do that, and while that doesn't justify it, the fact that the Church was responsible for basically all of Western civilization thanks to fields in math, alchemy and precursors to science, and architecture and art all being furthered by the Church after the collapse of Rome justifies it. Who cares if like 300,000 tops were tortured by the Church they did more good than harm.
The catholic church has been against science through most of it's history. It's only until Newton showed up that they became more flexible about it. Look what they did to Galileo, Copernicus and anyone else that dared to contradict the catholic church. Then there's the inquisition where they actively hunted down anyone with a different view to reality and persecuted or burned them. The catholic church was brought kicking and screaming into the 20th century, and it was only right at the very end of that century, that they admitted the Big Bang happened. You should look more to actual history, rather than how you would like it to be.
The Catholic Catechism says: Though faith is above reason, there can never be any real discrepancy between faith and reason. Since the same God who reveals mysteries and infuses faith has bestowed the light of reason on the human mind, God cannot deny himself, nor can truth ever contradict truth. ... Consequently, methodical research in all branches of knowledge, provided it is carried out in a truly scientific manner and does not override moral laws, can never conflict with the faith, because the things of the world and the things of faith derive from the same God. The humble and persevering investigator of the secrets of nature is being led, as it were, by the hand of God in spite of himself, for it is God, the conserver of all things, who made them what they are.
I guess that depends on perspective. I actually think they are promoting the catholic faith and trying to put it in a better light, which I thought catholics would be happy about. There's a huge negative view on catholicism because of all the child molestation, the anti-abortion and Middle Aged view on women, equal rights, queer rights, etc. By doing this theme they are actually trying to show off catholicism in a good light, trying to focus on the dresses and clothes and making them into fashion. I honestly thought you guys would be flattered and be thankfull for people trying to shift the focus away from all the negative aspects surounding catholicism right now. I don't see how they're mocking it? At no point was he making fun of it, he was PRAISING the clothes.

How do you know Chanel isn’t included in the show? Does this preview show every piece in the show?

Sylla Atlas Chanel is there, I've seen it confirmed somewhere
What a world to witness.....good luck folks.

Jun Takahashi for his own label Undercover.
You lost me at 0:33 . how does that dress relate to that painting?
if you've watched the other videos, they actually say that the dress is called the unicorn and was based entirely from the unicorn in the painting. just watch the other videos.

Being catholic is all fun and games, untill you're homosexual. Or a woman. Or a choir boy. Right?

I would've dressed in a pagan style. U know why
Catholicism has also inspired some of the most brutal acts in history. Funny, that because it's a church, we forgive it so easily.

The Catholic Church inspired art, science and civilization over the last 2 millennia.

Catholics: "Feed, clothe and house the poor?
Nah...
Here's a gold robe and chalice, instead."
blasphemous imagery.
Can you tell me which one?
you obviously didnt listen to anything he was saying
I know, right? That’s what makes it so beautiful and interesting
NelliNightshade you know the Vatican approved it right?
