    Beautiful gowns. The construction, materials and internal corset like support are very reminiscent of the gowns designed by Charles Frederick Worth for the House of Worth in Paris. Charles Worth was born in England and opened his prestigious Parisian fashion house in 1858. It operated under his descendants until 1952 and was closed in 1956. The brand was revived in 1999.

      😆 I challenge you to find a Worth dress that looks anything like a Charles James dress or is constructed in any kind of a similar way. Ridiculous. You just wanted to show off you’ve heard about Charles Frederick Worth….

    There was a scene in the movie Ocean's 8 where at the met gala they showcased the jewelries and gowns and there was instrumental playing. It was absolutely enchanting.

      Do it, and buy a membership online to the museum, it gets you to the front of the line at anytime, for free to these exhibits. Of course membership costs more than the ticket but for a year it’s worth it, and the extra cost is worth not waiting hours. Plus a discount to the gift shop

      Lina Martínez Girl...it’s amazing. I live in NYC, and it’s worth it EVERY TIME (except for that one Punk exhibit, they should’ve done more research).
      The Camp exhibition and McQueen’s exhibition were, by far, the best ones.

    How exciting to show the architecture of the dress by breaking it down on a digital screen and the robotic arm pointing out the structure. I miss the Met soooo much. I lived near the Met for a while and now live in Europe. The Met with the Costume exhibitions is the one place I miss the most.

    Charles James was such a master. So sad to know that he died penniless. The MET needs to do another exhibition on him and take it on the road all over the world, so that more people can learn about him. Fashion schools should offer a senior level course that explores James’ concepts with the final project being to create a look inspired by him for a fashion show.

    I love those that relentlessly push the envelope of what fashion could become, in some ways he is in spirit a predecessor of one of my current inspirations, Iris van Herpen. However, this also stokes my craving for the beauty of fashion from the past. Exquisite.

    Who are the people who made the pieces? They take great skill to make. Did he sew and construct them himself? If not him, I would really like to hear about the people who did. It's one thing to make designs - another to accomplish the construction.

    • @leeannasloan526
      @leeannasloan526 4 роки тому +4

      Couture isn't always beautiful...a lot of couture I find grotesque or not pleasing to the eye because of the symmetry...like one shoulder is huge and the other shoulder is not there at all or small..or the clothes come off the body in a weird way we aren't used to seeing...I think the swan gown is gorgeous but I like bustle dresses...on the other hand I think the puffy white coat is awful...but they are all interesting and have an artistic style to them that is probably different when scene in person...I imagine seeing the stitching and all the little details we don't see on a flat screen make a difference
      It's hard to like something if you simply don't like something and I get that...mermaid dresses for example are something I cannot stand and never will no matter who has them on.
