Star Trek has been one of the most popular sci-fi franchises in the world for decades, and with the success of the 2009 blockbuster reboot, it was only natural that we got a few follow-ups to the Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto-led movies.
Star Trek Beyond, the first movie in the Kelvin timeline, does raise some questions though. Like what happened to Carol Marcus? What happened to the life-saving superblood from Star Trek Into Darkness? What happened to beaming bombs onto people’s ships? Why does Kirk think a desk job will help him in the way of excitement? Did anyone ever care about Spock and Uhura’s relationship? How is Jaylah managing to hide that ship from Krall, who’s literally the one who crashed it there? Why do all these movies have bad guys from a different time?
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Star Trek Beyond! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

@Cat Egorical he had his own channel... 12 years ago. Not to mention pitch meetings get tons more views than the stuff on his channel. So you have no clue what you’re talking about.
@Cat Egorical lol, still quite wrong.
1. His most popular video on his channel has 3.3 million views at the time of writing this comment (I’m not including the jack black video at 12m because he doesn’t make that sorta content anymore) and his most recent one 700k. The most popular pitch meeting video (that I could find) was at 4.4 million views and the most recent one at around 950k.
2. Even if they were around the same amount of views, not taking care of the Pitch Meeting series would be essentially cutting your salary in half, but in this case where the views outnumber the ones on his main channel he’d be cutting his income by 65%. Pitch meetings are important.

Yeah, but it was a Star Trek that went Into Darkness. No one could really see what was going on, much less where anyone left stuff like the magic Khan blood or the only transporter in Starfleet that could beam bombs onto other ships. So later when they went looking for the darkness, they went so far Into the Darkness that they got confused and just kept going and going so now they're pretty sure they're Beyond it, so far Beyond it, in fact, that there's really no point in even trying to come back. So they're done.

Yeah, this movie had a lot of developments from previous movies that were just forgotten about for the sake of tension
Also for the fact that almost every Star Trek fan hated those things. I don't know what JJ was thinking. The Super Blood, the Transwarp beaming, the beaming through shields. He basically completely destroyed the reason to even have starships. He created literal immortality and the ability to go anywhere at any time without ships.
This movie rightly ignored all that stupidity.
To be fair, the last movie had Super resurrecting Blood, Transporters that can beam across star systems as normal technology, Transporters that can easily punch through shields to plant bombs inside ships, and more!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the torpedoes were beamed FROM Enterprise, whose shields were down, BY the admiral.
The movie established a lot of stupidity on its own (like the super-effective space bees - I wonder if they are going to use them in the next movie) and the fact that the Founders are no longer anything special - anyone can be a shapechanger, according to Star Trek Beyond. ;)

Screenwriter: "No they don't."
Producer: "Ah..I don't think anyone's gonna buy something that important being left totally vulnerable to attack."
Screenwriter: "Actually, something tells me, in just a few short years, it won't be nearly as unbelievable as you'd think."
Producer: "What?!?!"
Screenwriter: "What??"
Brilliant
What exactly are you referencing?
I see what you did there...
@@arno7163 I think the comment’s referencing the riot at the Capitol Building
Sick burn.
"They don't have any security or safety protocols around that thing?" - Every space movie/show ever, where a character steals a ship/mecha from a carrier vessel. And the door that separates the colony from Mars's atmosphere in first season of National Geographic's Mars series.
that last one in particular was so infuriating with how the series was going for a more "realistic" feel before completely dropping that and making an advanced and thoroughly engineered Mars base basically have a self destruct button with the airlock door, just to create more completely unnecessary tension.
It's addressed to a degree in TNG. They rescue some cryogenics people from the 80s, and one of them starts using the comms and gets on the bridge. When that one asks about security, Picard's response is basically "we're adults, we can trust people to follow rules"
Someone would have to infiltrate the station, gain access to the most visible point in the entire station, arrange a diversion to distract security personnel (say by crashing a starship into the station) and know the hatch codes, say by having hacked the Federation internet for decades...
Meanwhile, maintenance personnel need to have access, and, even in the Kelvinverse, the Federation is surprisingly utopian in many ways - a bit like pre-9/11 US airlines - they don't expect terrorists to strike, so they don't take precautions against it.
4:06 wanting to say being main characters is tight but then realizing you already used that catchphrase earlier so saying it is helpful is Tight!
I love watching these after I've watched the movies. I enjoy the movies, but it's fun to see all the inconsistencies and plot holes I ignored enjoying the movie.
I got to 4 minutes in before I realized I had actually seen this film.
Forgetting you already saw this film is super easy, barely an inconvenience.
@@kobrien4121 All of these rebooted Star Trek movies are extremely forgettable.
It is pretty disappointing to be reminded that I actually watched that movie.
Those extra wows always gets me lmao
I’d love to see a pitch meeting for “Labyrinth”.
A pitch meeting on “King Fury” would be tight!!
