Yeah because this all looks super shitty. Hoping there's more interesting things involved in the idea that it has a build up rather than we'll be starved for damage and just needing it
I assume, that we'll get a witch ascendency (occultist?) that specializes in curses and I could see them add a 'no curse delay' node to this ascendency. Blasphemy might be very popular because we're unlikely to have curse on hit outside the 'hand of chayula' skill.
I think (purely speculation based on wording) the curse *skill* and the actual applied curse *debuff* it applies are 2 separate concepts; a curse *skill* has a delay to apply the *debuff*, yet a modifier might just apply the *debuff* on hit directly. Though I would imagine if curse-on-hit exists it's actually *more* valuable than in PoE1 *because* of the activation delay, so there's a good chance it'd be relegated to more niche items. So in a way RIP, but not because of the activation delay directly
@@osetor7457This is somewhat implied through Blasphemy, where curses apparently apply instantly to everything within range without penalty. I think the idea is to move away from curses being "free damage for every build" and something that will be more specialized in PoE2, which will be interesting to see if they manage that balance properly.
@@yeahright420 No one is forcing you to play a witch to use curses or anything else in the game. Giving extremely basic recommendations and tooltips isn't removing the sandbox elements. You only feel this way because Jonathan is the only one who has made "build guides" so far that you are used to copy/pasting. I'll bet money that players who actually make builds don't copy those recommendations and end up with better builds.
Trying my hardest not to judge before I see actual endgame, but man, I really don't like some of the changes. Every mechanic just has a downside right now. Do they really expect us to hard cast Sniper's mark to get +38% crit damage bonus? It has 0.5s cast time. I just don't see a situation in which it will be better to cast this instead of simply spamming an attack.. In case if we'll get mark on hit support with like 50% decreased effect and 4s cooldown which will work only on rares and uniques, then it can probably be used (still an insanely inefficient mark), but if there is no such support, I don't even know man.
@@dreamcore_gg well, cast on crit into ass mark theoretically makes sense ofcourse, the biggest fear I have though is that internal CD on cast on something will be much higher than it is right now. It just doesn't make any sense that the mark is 100% unusable by itself and 100% usable with the usage of a cast on something support. And with the overall feel I'm getting reading all these small changes is that they really want PoE2 to be *slow*. If CoC will work just like now in PoE1, it will make 0 sense at all.
Maybe something about there needing to be more of a consideration where you place it? Faster monsters having an easier time to get out of the radius, and also so it's not just something you throw vaguely in the correct direction. I think the curse circle radius is also smaller on average than they are in PoE1, further amplifying this thought. It also looks pretty cool with the ritual circle beneath the enemies, but that's less important
It's probably an intentional barrier to prevent slotting curses in every single build like we currently do in PoE1. Looks like they want to force people to specialize into curses rather than always taking them because it's a free 30%+ damage multiplier.
@neppity5887 I trust they're cooking but I'm not sure with this one. They said they are against adding cooldowns to balance skills but a delay on curses is in the same vein imo, it's annoying and doesn't feel good to not have access to your skill whenever you want
I resented having to use curses in PoE 1. Marks could be applied automatically at least. I don't know what that means to "reserve 30 spirits" (flat value reservation?) for auras, but I hope it's more usable than aura reservation in PoE 1.
Just for context, 30 is the amount the known herlad skills reserve and 100 is what you reserve for most triggers (cast on crit, cast while channeling, cast on shock, ...). You also need to reserve spirit for things like permanent minions.
By default you will have 100 spirit I think, you will be able to invest into more spirit. So 30 spirit reservation isn't that big, compare it to for example Cast on Shock, new trigger gem, that will reserve 100 spirit
@@bsstyle123You say that but it always devolves into single button skills. I'm hopeful for POE2 but the combat looks tedious. Do 500 maps and your hands will be useless
You press them then attack normally until they activate. It's weird to try to draw a parallel to poe1 here. Voltaxic burst sucks because it's in a one or two skill game, and having one of those skills be a button you have to keep casting that also takes a long time before it deals damage sucks. Enemies are tankier in poe2, you only have to cast a curse once, and you're expected to have other buttons to press afterwards. It's not even slightly close.
@@VZPZ curses play like voltaxic burst if you spend literally no investment into them. Reduce the curse delay through support gems/passive tree, spend spirit on blasphemy, or run Hand of Chayula in your weapon swap if you want to actually use curses without the delay. They just have a cost to use now.

Rip snipers mark hahaha, goodnight sweet prince
Thank you I appreciate this video

From footage we've seen, the curse activation delay seems to be around 2-2.5 seconds

RIP curse on hit, because of curse delay
I wonder if curse on hit modifiers on gear will be a thing in PoE2 🤔

Bro rip Poe period games getting gutted of it's sandbox roots to be forced to play the way cockathan wants you to play.

I expect marks and other 'utility' will mostly be used in automated setups. Fe. cast on stun for melee, cast on shock, freeze etc. for caster
