I went to Catholic confession recently and the priest ended up confessing to me his struggles that day. It was beautiful, humbling and it made me respect and admire how great these men are and how much they have given up to help us and glorify God and do his work.
Genuinely curious… what kind of things does a priest repent for? Like what does he do that’s sinful? I mean he’s doing Gods work all day and I just can’t picture what they could possibly do that is a sin? Unless they’re you know “bad” like they touch children or treat others with disrespect…

He might be prideful, rude, thought sth bad about someone, angry, harsh etc… at some time. of course there is a lot more structure with the praying hours (Brevier) and life in a fraternity for example. Every day when a priest says the mass they offer themselves to God for forgiveness and God forgives them right away no matter what sins they commit. That is why we go for confessions to priest because they are brothers of Jesus Christ. Christ called them to follow him and do his work on earth.
I come from a Romanian Orthodox family, with a Greek Orthodox priest as a great grandfather. People have to understand that these men are keeping entire communities, villages and cities together. They care for the people. They come to bless the house when someone dies in the family. They always have an open ear for your suffering. They always try to give healthy advice for all kinds of questions regarding life. They always show you towards Christ. Before my father died, he asked me kindly not to leave my faith - meaning Orthodoxy. I am currently taking Orthodox Bible classes at Business College.

It’s not just about the death of ego. It’a about denying pleasure. It’s about caring for people in hospice. It’s about leading families through funerals. It’s about crisis response. Our own works are meritless as filthy rags before God, which is why we must saved by the grace of God through our faith in Jesus. We must be cleansed of our sin through the redeeming blood of Jesus to receive the righteousness of Jesus by the indwelling of His own Holy Spirit. Good works are the natural result of being transformed by hearing the Word of God, not by the carnal, self-righteous, false doctrines and traditions of the orthodox denomination that violate God's Word.

You may be surprised to know that many people have false beliefs about suffering, thinking that self-abuse is somehow pleasing to God. Earthly pleasures were created by God for humanity to enjoy. Of course, we must always guard against indulging in the perversions of God's gift of pleasure in any form in any occasion. Self denial as a form of fasting in order to devote one's attention to seeking the will of God, or when faced with the decision to take a firm stand upon the Word of God to avoid compromising God's Biblical standards is definitely worthwhile, but suffering any other reason is just an unscriptural waste of time and merits us nothing.

However if one chooses to suffer, they shall suffer with Christ because Christ suffered for our sins. That is the point. Beyond Christianity, the great Epictetus of Greece was a slave for many years and documented his experience. It is about mastering the human mental fortitude and becoming the best disciplined self you can be through all the hardships and pain. You are looking at it extremely objectively towards a deeper bias or resentment towards religion. When rather this man mentions nothing about feeling better than others and only speaks about the hardships and his suffering. He is honest. He does not feel better than you or I but instead feels his own relationship, passion, and love for our lord and savior. It is very humble of him to express his pain and suffering rather than his bragging of some kind of spiritual entitlement. This priest sacrificed having a family for his suffering. You fail to realize it is good to suffer and to suffer well. Running away from suffering only reverts to harder times down the road. He is sacrificing more than you understand and he is doing it not with pride but with humility and that is the most important thing to take away from this. I hope this helps.

You are looking at it very objectively. Suffering well can be anything from fasting or cold plunging. Suffering well can be a monk devoting themselves to silence. Suffering well can be a rich man choosing to live humbly or choosing to live over seas in a third world country helping small villages. You have not opened your mind to what it means to suffer and to do it well. Those who refuse to suffer and deem it inhumane are neglecting human needs for humility and humbleness will often times end up as the unhappy, sorrow, and weak. Those who chose to walk the paths less followed often are rewarded in the greatest feats. Anywhere from the son of Christ to David goggins or to Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs suffered well by going his own path and starting from nothing. Refusing a mainstream job with full time pay and benefits to suffer for a greater reward. These are examples of what it means to suffer well. This priest is suffering well but those who run from suffering, will never understand it.

I'm not sure where the Apostles handed down any doctrine of priestly celibacy. The Apostles were almost all married. Phillip, for sure, had two daughters. You COULD be celibate as a priest, but so could lay people. It looks like a later non apostolic tradition.

There's a lot of suffering in true priesthood, think of all the funerals, dealing with the sick, the injured, the poor, the dying. Giving the Eucharist itself is a deep and in many ways solemn affair. The joy of the Lord comes in doing your duty well, and experiencing the good that comes with it, and rejoicing in times of celebration, such as the Holy Pascha and all the other feasts of the Church, but don't ever mistake it, true Christianity comes with the experience of ego death.

Orthodox priests are some of the most humble people on earth. I went to a orthodox church in the ozark mountains and im speaking to americans who probably grew uo protestant, its just a different level. Its very moving. After the service was over, the father of the service, Father Seraphim approached me and took the time to talk to me. I've never met a nicer man in my life.

It's a pity. We recognize their baptism and sacraments as valid and allow them to receive in Catholic Churchs. They insist we are heretics and will refuse us communion. I was so shocked and saddened that the Mohummedans prevented them from rejoining the Catholic Church.
I am not orthodox, but I was a Protestant pastor for 7 years. The suffering ministers face , if they are endeavoring to be faithful, is inexplicable and almost impossible to convey. I faced immense suffering at the hands of brothers and sisters in Christ, beyond the ordinary burden of ministry. I chose to step away for a few years to re-examine my life, and to pursue greater godliness and wisdom, for I was often a fool. (Christ please help me!) The spiritual war, the emotional battle, the way of the cross, is truly heart wrenching. Please pray for me, that I may return to a heart zealous for the Lord - able to return to serving His church. My heart goes out to this priest, my brother in Christ. I pray that he would be strengthened in his inner man to continue on in this labor.
You cannot live for Christ on your own man, or else you will burn out, you need the Holy Spirit, and that only comes by being born again by grace through faith. In my opinion, these are the strongest men on the planet. Orthodox Priests and the Monks on Mount Athos stand on the frontlines of the unseen war. They have pledged their lives to wear a target on their backs as they stand at the front of the flock of Humanity, seeking only to lead and pray, and wait a lifetime for one thing, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” You can see the relentless attacks in his demeanor and the exhaustion in his voice. Holding the line, even while much of the world remains oblivious.
It weird , I felt the same. Media and contraversies have tarnished the name of many religious institutions and with good reasons. But for those left in the shadows bearing the price of absolute belief , celibacy. No ambition. Almost depraved of everything temptation that makes the world worth living. Just the thought of living life without the possibility of falling in love and having children is down right horrifying .Sure it's not that for every faith. But the very idea baffles me yet humbles me as well.

I've been experiencing this. He put it into words what I've been going through. I came into ministry about two years ago. The Lord called me. I did not know what I was going to do. I just knew I had to be of use for the kingdom. He's put me in charge of a recovery ministry at my local church. It's difficult, man. These people--no one loves. You have to die and let Christ work through you. There is no other way to serve these people. In reflection of my ministry, I've been doing this type of ministry for over twenty years already and did not know it. I do not have time to get into it. But I was absolutely floored to see how the Lord had already trained me to minister to folks in recovery. I am young in the ministry, still. I have not suffered like this man obviously has. But I have suffered. The writing is on the wall, and I see it. God help us, indeed. God give us the heart to die to self so others may see your works through us.
I have mad respect for these dudes. They devote their lives to serving the kingdom of God whilst giving up everything. This is exactly what Jesus meant when he said “Whoever loses their life will find it”. Respect 🫡

I understand his tears. I couldnt imagine what they must feel daily as i struggle with trying to be right with god. Who knows if were good enough or if we'll be forgiven for mistakes made when we didnt comprehend or understand. Hey, I just want to let you know that Christ provided everything that we need to be right with God, we just have to trust in Him. I was same as you, I was stressing all day, and never felt I was good enough, but the good news is that Christ was good enough for all of us. We just have to trust in that, this changes lifes, this will enable you to do things for god just from love, not because you have to. And God gets all the Glory! He reminds me of what I read in Padre Pio’s biography. He suffered tremendously in his life. He even referred to himself as a sinner and expressed concern about whether he was good enough to get into heaven. He was known by his contemporaries as a humble and pious priest. This man clearly has come to his calling with an authenticity that cannot be faked. As heartbreaking as it is to hear it is also a marvel. May the Lord Jesus bless this man.

I am not putting them on the same level, the holy priesthood that is, but being a healthcare worker, you must also be prepared to die to self & suffer. For people broken and marred by all manner of diseases, of the spirit and flesh. I am truly humbled, even disturbed, by what I encounter each time I set foot in the hospital. I am a female, and can never be a priest, but I relate to what Fr says, in the way he describes entering into suffering with Christ. Pray for our priests, and pray for our healthcare workers (along w/ law enforcement, we have the highest rates of suicide among us).
Lord have mercy on all of our servants. As Christ came to serve, may all those who serve humanity from their hearts, all be blessed and know salvation through our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Lord, guide their every step, Holy Spirt comfort them from the horrors they must bear, Father give them strength, Jesus, be their refuge.... Amen
I've seen such passion and a love for God from both Catholic and Orthodox priests. I wish that the layman would also have such passion, I often see bitterness and anger and lashing out towards Protestants like me. I would rather strive for a unified church and I think that the Orthodox and Catholic priests also want such a thing.
I've spent a lot of time with protestants last year before i decided to join the Greek orthodox church this year. When i told them that, they were accepting, gracious and curious. I genuinely believe God gave me that time to spend with the protestant churches to not make me as judgmental before revealing the path to orthodoxy. We have different ways of worship and different problems in the church, some more severe than others.. but what is important is following The Lord, no matter our differences.

There is no striving to create the Church though. The Church is the very body of Jesus Christ. The Holy Orthodoxy Church has always been, has always been waiting for us. What a relief to consider that the faith need not to be reformed, that the corporate church not need be reformed. It was there in fullness all along, it only needs to be recognized and steps made in humility to join her as she is. I had the privilege of meeting this Father Lynch recently. We are from the same area. I met him and told him he was famous on UA-cam. Of course he was so humble and kind. His beautiful little congregation is located in an old run down part of town. You wouldn't know such a gem of Christianity would be located there unless you where seeking it. Sounds like Jesus to me. I went to Catholic confession recently and the priest ended up confessing to me his struggles that day. It was beautiful, humbling and it made me respect and admire how great these men are and how much they have given up to help us and glorify God and do his work.

Every day when a priest says the mass they offer themselves to God for forgiveness and God forgives them right away no matter what sins they commit. That is why we go for confessions to priest because they are brothers of Jesus Christ. Christ called them to follow him and do his work on earth.

I come from a Romanian Orthodox family, with a Greek Orthodox priest as a great grandfather. People have to understand that these men are keeping entire communities, villages and cities together.
They care for the people. They come to bless the house when someone dies in the family. They always have an open ear for your suffering.
They always try to give healthy advice for all kinds of questions regarding life. They always show you towards Christ.
Before my father died, he asked me kindly not to leave my faith - meaning Orthodoxy. I am currently taking Orthodox Bible classes at Business College.

You may be surprised to know that many people have false beliefs about suffering, thinking that self-abuse is somehow pleasing to God. Earthly pleasures were created by God for humanity to enjoy. Of course, we must always guard against indulging in the perversions of God's gift of pleasure in any form in any occasion. Self denial as a form of fasting in order to devote one's attention to seeking the will of God, or when faced with the decision to take a firm stand upon the Word of God to avoid compromising God's Biblical standards is definitely worthwhile, but suffering any other reason is just an unscriptural waste of time and merits us nothing.

However if one chooses to suffer, they shall suffer with Christ because Christ suffered for our sins. That is the point. Beyond Christianity, the great Epictetus of Greece was a slave for many years and documented his experience. It is about mastering the human mental fortitude and becoming the best disciplined self you can be through all the hardships and pain. You are looking at it extremely objectively towards a deeper bias or resentment towards religion. When rather this man mentions nothing about feeling better than others and only speaks about the hardships and his suffering. He is honest. He does not feel better than you or I but instead feels his own relationship, passion, and love for our lord and savior. It is very humble of him to express his pain and suffering rather than his bragging of some kind of spiritual entitlement. This priest sacrificed having a family for his suffering. You fail to realize it is good to suffer and to suffer well. Running away from suffering only reverts to harder times down the road. He is sacrificing more than you understand and he is doing it not with pride but with humility and that is the most important thing to take away from this.

You are looking at it very objectively. Suffering well can be anything from fasting or cold plunging. Suffering well can be a monk devoting themselves to silence. Suffering well can be a rich man choosing to live humbly or choosing to live over seas in a third world country helping small villages.
You have not opened your mind to what it means to suffer and to do it well. Those who refuse to suffer and deem it inhumane are neglecting human needs for humility and humbleness will often times end up as the unhappy, sorrow, and weak. Those who chose to walk the paths less followed often are rewarded in the greatest feats. Anywhere from the son of Christ to David goggins or to Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs suffered well by going his own path and starting from nothing. Refusing a mainstream job with full time pay and benefits to suffer for a greater reward.
These are examples of what it means to suffer well. This priest is suffering well but those who run from suffering, will never understand it.

Orthodox priests are some of the most humble people on earth. I went to a orthodox church in the ozark mountains and im speaking to americans who probably grew uo protestant, its just a different level. Its very moving.

I am not orthodox, but I was a Protestant pastor for 7 years. The suffering ministers face , if they are endeavoring to be faithful, is inexplicable and almost impossible to convey. I faced immense suffering at the hands of brothers and sisters in Christ, beyond the ordinary burden of ministry. I chose to step away for a few years to re-examine my life, and to pursue greater godliness and wisdom, for I was often a fool. (Christ please help me!)
The spiritual war, the emotional battle, the way of the cross, is truly heart wrenching. Please pray for me, that I may return to a heart zealous for the Lord - able to return to serving His church.

Media and contraversies have tarnished the name of many religious institutions and with good reasons. But for those left in the shadows bearing the price of absolute belief , celibacy. No ambition. Almost depraved of everything temptation that makes the world worth living.

I've been experiencing this. He put it into words what I've been going through. I came into ministry about two years ago. The Lord called me. I did not know what I was going to do. I just knew I had to be of use for the kingdom.
He's put me in charge of a recovery ministry at my local church. It's difficult, man. These people--no one loves. You have to die and let Christ work through you. There is no other way to serve these people.
In reflection of my ministry, I've been doing this type of ministry for over twenty years already and did not know it. I do not have time to get into it. But I was absolutely floored to see how the Lord had already trained me to minister to folks in recovery.
I am young in the ministry, still. I have not suffered like this man obviously has. But I have suffered. The writing is on the wall, and I see it.
God help us, indeed. God give us the heart to die to self so others may see your works through us.
I have mad respect for these dudes. They devote their lives to serving the kingdom of God whilst giving up everything. This is exactly what Jesus meant when he said “Whoever loses their life will find it”. Respect 🫡

I understand his tears. I couldnt imagine what they must feel daily as i struggle with trying to be right with god. Who knows if were good enough or if we'll be forgiven for mistakes made when we didnt comprehend or understand. Hey, I just want to let you know that Christ provided everything that we need to be right with God, we just have to trust in Him. I was same as you, I was stressing all day, and never felt I was good enough, but the good news is that Christ was good enough for all of us. We just have to trust in that, this changes lifes, this will enable you to do things for god just from love, not because you have to. And God gets all the Glory! Just trust in Christ about your everlasting life, ask Him to your life and He will do the rest. Love you brother/sister.

I’m not orthodox but as a single Christian mother, just trying to lead my flock of 4 children with my knowledge and understanding of Christ and the scripture is a massive undertaking. We have a church family and a pastor but in our home it’s up to me. The pressure to get it right and not lead them astray is so great. One of the most compassionate examples I’ve ever seen from a Priest.
He reminds me of what I read in Padre Pio’s biography. He suffered tremendously in his life. He even referred to himself as a sinner and expressed concern about whether he was good enough to get into heaven. He was known by his contemporaries as a humble and pious priest. This man clearly has come to his calling with an authenticity that cannot be faked. As heartbreaking as it is to hear it is also a marvel. May the Lord Jesus bless this man.

I am not putting them on the same level, the holy priesthood that is, but being a healthcare worker, you must also be prepared to die to self & suffer. For people broken and marred by all manner of diseases, of the spirit and flesh. I am truly humbled, even disturbed, by what I encounter each time I set foot in the hospital. I am a female, and can never be a priest, but I relate to what Fr says, in the way he describes entering into suffering with Christ. Pray for our priests, and pray for our healthcare workers (along w/ law enforcement, we have the highest rates of suicide among us).
Lord have mercy on all of our servants. As Christ came to serve, may all those who serve humanity from their hearts, all be blessed and know salvation through our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Lord, guide their every step, Holy Spirt comfort them from the horrors they must bear, Father give them strength, Jesus, be their refuge.... Amen

I've seen such passion and a love for God from both Catholic and Orthodox priests. I wish that the layman would also have such passion, I often see bitterness and anger and lashing out towards Protestants like me. I would rather strive for a unified church and I think that the Orthodox and Catholic priests also want such a thing.
I've spent a lot of time with protestants last year before i decided to join the Greek orthodox church this year. When i told them that, they were accepting, gracious and curious. I genuinely believe God gave me that time to spend with the protestant churches to not make me as judgmental before revealing the path to orthodoxy. We have different ways of worship and different problems in the church, some more severe than others.. but what is important is following The Lord, no matter our differences.

There is no striving to create the Church though. The Church is the very body of Jesus Christ. The Holy Orthodoxy Church has always been, has always been waiting for us. What a relief to consider that the faith need not to be reformed, that the corporate church not need be reformed.
It was there in fullness all along, it only needs to be recognized and steps made in humility to join her as she is.

I think it’s an internet thing. Most IRL Protestants I’ve met are really nice and respectful, but on the internet they comment really disrespectful things on our channels and videos. Also, I think that when you are in the minority, as Orthos and Caths are in Anglo countries, you tend to be more on the offensive in order to maintain your identity. Such is with Protestants în România

I had the privilege of meeting this Father Lynch recently. We are from the same area. I met him and told him he was famous on UA-cam. Of course he was so humble and kind.
His beautiful little congregation is located in an old run down part of town. You wouldn't know such a gem of Christianity would be located there unless you where seeking it. Sounds like Jesus to me. Holy God, Holy mighty, Holy Immortal have mercy on us.
