snake plants are the coolest.
Agreed!
I believe you are correct on the Whitney.
All are lovely sweet and cute.
Hi it bless my heart to watch ur love and excitement for plants......remember we need the oxygen the plants breathe out .....it also keeps u looking youthful.....continue to make God proud by accepting and appreciating nature
Beautiful 😍
Thanks for sharing ❤️
I also refuse to call them Dracaena, it'll always be a Sansevieria for me. 😃 The Samurai and Whale fin are on my wishlist, your's are incredible.
I love Sansevieria 😊 I have 21 of them. Very easy to care for except to watch for root rot if over watered.
The plant is reclassified. The taxonomists who named them, did so by looks and flowers that resembled other plants’ flowers. Now, because plants are being tested via DNA sequences, hence the new name. For me it will always be Sansevieria AKA Snake Plant🐉😊
Love your snake plants. How are they doing now?
Your Sansevierias collection are very impressive 👏 .Sansevieria are all time favourite.I have some of them.
Thank you :) my collection has grown since this video... I should make a new one soon :) what's your favorite Sansevieria that you have?
I live in the Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan area and I love collecting snake plants for my home. They do so well in low humidity homes. I just bought a container filled with very young whale fins. I hope they grow up to be as amazing as yours! I’ve been watching your channel for years and just wanted to thank you for showing us your plants. You’re REAL and by showing us your successes, failures, and forgetfulness, just makes us smile and be ready to go to another nursery to expand our own collections and try again! Thank you for your transparency.
Thank you so much 😀 I really needed to hear that. Lately my plant journey has had a lot of fails and I've been feeling a bit depressed and defeated. I haven't been posting much content because of it. Hopefully my planty luck turns around and I get back into enjoying the hobby soon 😀. I love that you have a collection of Sansevaria... a Perfect plant for your growing conditions... the whale fin is a stunner... I only assume that's what my big one is... it didn't actually have a tag when I bought it. As the years go but I've not seen a whale fin as tall as mine...other than the current height it looks the same. Last year I bought a variegated whale fin... so that will be interesting to see the growth between the 2.
@@PlantzNThings I’m jealous, as mature whale fins are extremely expensive and the variegated whale fin is even more so! I’ll have to be patient for the rarer varieties to lower their price. I’ve lost so many snake plants, so let me encourage you to try again. Learning by Trial and Error is the key to success, so try again! Most of your plants are huge compared to mine. Give yourself a pat on the back!
Great collection! At Lowe's I just bought a moonshine sansaveria. It looked a little bit tough but I didn't care; I had to have it!.$9!
Wow!!! Very impressive collection, I am envious. I love your samurai! 😍
Thank you :) Yes the Samurai is really cool... i had no idea it would look this way when i bought it as a tiny plant many years ago. I'm so pleased :)
The Whale Fin Plant is fantastic. I saw the video when you were repotting it. It's on my wish list. TY.
WOW I LOVE your Sanseveria collection Bill :-D you have so many beauties there, and they are all so gorgeous. I have about 10 different types and want to add more to my collection, thanks so much for sharing and sending you an abundance of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle for a wonderful weekend XXXX
You have beautiful plants, thanks for the tour! Your last plant is the one that intrigues me, I’d love to find one
I dont believe in cutting my plants .....I love my plants tall ....bushy.....healthy and nice......u have some unusual plants I would loveeeee lolololol
Wonderful collection definitely added a few to my list from this!
YAY!!!! :)
I had to e-watch this one, for the 5th time, I think, now haha.
I've just ordered the francisii and Fernwood, to add to my collection. I also was lucky to get the kirkii Silver Blue and Coppertone with which I'm just in love, and also the Samurai and the cylindrica var. patula 'Boncel' (bought it as boncellensis, which appears to be a syn., supposedly it is the dwarf cultivar, but time will tell).
Yours are really inspiring, as they are such large specimens!
I've tried to limit myself to the smaller, slow growers, so I have stayed away from masoniana and company haha.
The plants are doing so well and good looking
Sabsevieria samurai...i love it. Your big sansevieria fantastic
Thank you :)
Great collection Bill! The Francii I’ve never seen before, looks very cool!
Thanks for sharing your awesome collection!
Stay safe and well !
❤️🌱
I also refuse to call them Dracaena, but it has to do with their DNA 🙃
Bill, I recall your showing your different sansevierias on one of your episodes. The small cylindrical one with the purple sheaths is the bacularius “rod-leaf” snake plant. And is different from the fernwood mikado. What a surprise to see that its appearances have morphed as each of mine have matured.
You have a mature bacularis? I'd love to see photos do you use instagram? And the Fernwood is stunning as it matures... I need to at some point divide out my Fernwood Mikado I think that they are too close to one another and is stunting the growth. The first Fernwood I ever saw was a mature one... I think it was a single plant and was about 3-4 feet tall... AMAZING! Thats my goal :)
Is the bacularis also called Javelin? I saw a mature one of those a number of years ago but didn't have space in my car at the time...lol the leaves were almost as tall as me !
I love the Whale Fin .
Me too... its a real crowd favorite :)
I really love that giant Whale Fin. I bought myself one, and it grew a second smaller leaf, but I'm not sure if there are different TYPES of them. I have seen some that grow large (2-3-4 feet) and then I've also seen others where they just multiply and spread, but the leaves only stay about a foot tall. I'd prefer if mine got really tall over time, but I'm worried it may be a short variety (if there is indeed a different type). The only other one I have currently is a plain green Laurentii (or Trifasciata) but I would love one of the Whitney ones, or a Bantel's Sensation. Metallica is also really gorgeous. There's also Grandis, and Jaboa.
I don't know much about either Sanseveria or Dracaena, but I'm guessing they were recategorized due to new genetic information, often the ability to produce a viable offspring across group lines.
Do you have enough of a cactus and succulent collection that you could post one of these videos for them?
I don't have many Cactus... but many of the succulents I have I don't know their varieties... in my area they are sold with generic tags.... I could do a video...lol... you just would have a hard time googling them...lol
But I might do something.
The flowers were similar to dracaena tbats why they were reclassified in the dracaena family.
You are right, that’s a Whitney.
My regular starfish is crazy too!
Whalefin was the tirst san that i fell for too and my first indoor plant purchase
I have an s. futura superba that I really like. I much prefer its shorter and more compact size than the more common snake plant with the tall, long, lean leaves. I also have two small samurais. I love your ehrenbergii at the start of the video.
For some reason I cannot grow the hahnii variety. I've had 6 of them in the past year, and they all suffered from rot even though I only watered them one a month, and each was planted in cactus soil with extra perlite and gravel mixed in.
That Large one is so COOL!!!!!! Where can I get a small one from?? Tks. John.
I really like your Bacularis, and the Franciscii looks cool too. You should get the Bantel's Sensation!
I like the Hahnii but for some reason I just cannot grow them. I've owned five golden hahniis in the past two years and had rot issue with each one of them. My Samurai and Futura Superba are doing fine though, and they are in the same soil mixture and watering schedule (1 per month) that the Hahniis were on. So no more Hahnii for me.
I really like your collection! I have the Whitney also and the Samurai, I would love to get a whale fin! Maybe after the whole craziness that's going on right now!
A whale fin will be a nice addition to your collection for sure
Taxonomist's got to love them they change the classifications for orchids more often than not ! When you say full light , do you mean all day sun or half day sun ? I have to agree that Samurai Snake plant is pretty damn cool
When I put them outside they eventually get full all day sun
Sansevieria for me too
Thanks for the reply. It was quite helpful. Could you tell me where i could find a Whale Fin. Live in Southern California, nothing available around here. Any suggestions? Thank you so much.
No idea, I actually live in Ontario Canada. I don't follow sellers in the USA as most don't ship to Canada. But good luck on your search. one will turn up eventually :)
I got lots of my plants from Cal., I think called Cal. TROPICALS. Also Hirts gardens Etsy & amazon. GOOD LUCK! Rev J
Hirts gardens, etsy, and amazon! Rev. J
I became addicted to the whale fin because of you 😂
I have 8 different varieties. My Fernwood is so Slow growing :( You are correct regarding "Whitney". Have you seen "Cleopatra"? is so $$ but I still want one.
Is your Fernwood a small one like mine?
@@PlantzNThings My Fernwood was just a single plant in a 4" pot. it's just sat there All Winter ! no growth. Soon will go outside, once Weather warms up a bit.
Fun video.
please make a video if you will propagate the Samurai
How can I store my Sansevierias over winter here in the midwest. I have several large ones on my patio and am unable to carry them into my condo. I would like to store them in my garage. Is this possible?
Thumbs up
15:40 I prefer to call her Francesca or Francisa
HOLY MOLY! You're whale fin is huge :O I still need to get one for myself. How long have you had it???
I think 7 or 8 years... it's been a whale... I mean While...lol
@@PlantzNThings I'm so new to plants but can't wait to have mine for years and years. I'm just like you in that I don't mind picking up a small plant to watch it grow over time :)
Could you speak a little bit about repoting.
Especially when should it be done and how much room do they need in order to grow bigger.
Spring is always the best time to repot ... but i have done it throughout the year with no ill effect. they grow better when pot bound so don't over pot. only go up one maybe 2 pot sizes at a time... you don't need to repot these every year.. for the best growth they need strong light. in a low light spot your plant will survive but the growth will be more weak slower. with my plants i get one flush of growth per year... if i'm lucky i get 2... i hope this answered your question.
If you ever propagate sanseveria by leaf cutting please do a video. I haven't been able to have any success.
You mentioned you water the reservoir. You do bottom up watering?
I water both ways. depends on my mood and how dry the soil is. if the soil is really dry i will water from the top as well as fill the tray... let the pot soak up the water and then remove excess... i water well and then let them dry completely
The bacularis common name is rod leaf. No I don’t participate in instagram.
I was wondering if you know why my sansevieria is growing long, tall and skinny. It doesnt have brown tips. I have it in a windowsill. I water about once every 3 weeks. It looks healthy as far as the leaves thickness and color. But my leaves are just growing straight up, and skinny.
Where did you get your big cylindricas I've been looking for a variety that gets tall but all I can seem to find are the dwarf kind.
That just happened with time... many years ago I bi=ought it as a small plant... it just went crazy. I've had the plant so long that I don't remember when I bought it... maybe 10 or so years ago.. perhaps longer
How old is your sansivieria samurai?
Oh geez... I don't know 2 be honest.. I'm going to guess 6 or 7 years now... it was very small when I bought it...
Send a cyclindraca to me! 😃
Why not stake with bamboo when they get top heavy?
I am afraid of stabbing pups. Always tie mine up with cotton shoelaces. Nice and straight, and they love the support! Rev. J😊
They are huge, what food do you give them?
when i feed it's a miracle grow 20-20-20 Usually. I feed in the summer when they are outside with the other plants... inside i don't usually fertilize. it's just time that gets them big... a few i've had for several years.
👍🏼
I plant my snake plant in the ground you can see them in my photo they like crazy your plant name Whitney go to Google put in snake plant and you will all the different snake plant and their name ok
What an awesome collection you have. I will tag you with mine on Instagram tomorrow 😊🌿
Thank you :)
I respect the DNA science and the scientists who sequenced them. I call them by their real name, they are Dracena, therefore I call them Dracena.
To much dirty words and pictures to see
Sorry but your plants look bad like you are not really taking good care of them😪
