Very cool, I had never heard of ramps before. When I lived in Iowa there was some kind of plant that smelled like garlic but I think they said it was actually a kind of onion, but they had a SUPER strong garlic flavor.
Best way to preserve them is to wash and dry them and let them wilt a little, then but them in a mixer with lots of olive or sunflower oil and mix dem up until the machine gets warm, them put them through a fine sieve and you have wild garlic oil all year. Another great way is to cut them into small pieces and put them in a mixer with soft bitter, then freeze them in small portions. Perfect on fresh bread or grilled steak. Dehydrated powder does not preserve the taste well, but maybe freeze drying does the trick.
We dig some of them up and propagate them at home. We need to get some more asap for our new property. Tucker will definitely need a bath. Why do they need to roll in the mud?! Haha Beauty harvest! 🌱💚 The ticks are bad this year.
I haven’t found anything definitive about not digging the whole plant up in Ontario (where I live) so I think I’ll give it a try to replant some in my yard early next spring. Here we usually dig up and use the bulb as well. Selectively of course conserving the patch. I pickle the bulbs and use in salads. So good!!!!
What a dream come true to be able to do this on your own property! Love it!
It really is! I thank God every day for this place ☺️🙏🏼
I made ramp salt this spring. My absolutely favorite treat.

I wonder if they were wild onions?! 🤩
That's so cool never knew about wild leeks just planted some normal leeks for the first time this year
Wild leeks taste even better in my opinion 😍. I hope you can try them sometime!

That’s a great idea as long as it’s legal in your area to dig up! Haha, I agree! I don’t know why they insist in doing that 🤪
Please more foraging! Morels, sumac and all the things!!!
Wahoo!! Okay!
I also like the foraging video and thanks for info on dealing with ticks. The little aspects of homesteading that you explain so well
💚👍right on!! Very nice score!
Thank you!!! So excited to find them :)
Hello from Forest Lake Minnesota!! Fun episode!
Thank you, Pat!!
Yes
What about transplanting when you find a patch?
I think that’s a great idea as long as it’s legal in your area!
Harvesting the seeds usually is legal, but it’s usually illegal to dig them up and transplant so be sure to look into your local laws around it first

So good!!!!
I have never heard of such a plant.
I hadn’t either until a couple of years ago!
Ahh are there a lot of bear sightings in the area?
There sure are!
The ticks 😖
They are awful right now 🙈
