@@andymacdonald821 Same with the Tri 5. I find 55, 56, and 57 Buicks, Pontiacs and Olds more attractive than their Chevy counterparts. Simply because we've had the Tri Five in our faces all these years.

I agree, I think car guys out grow our brand preference enough to become true motor enthusiasts. There’s also styles of cars we didn’t like much when they were newer that we appreciate now. You only have to look at the lack of styling in the boring commuter capsules of today to like the individual efforts designers experimented with back in the day.

I was a GM guy in the 70s and 80s but I have moved to Ford since the mid 90s. GM isn't what they used to be. They were on the game back in the day but not anymore. The classic cars that Adam has are from an era where GM was at the top.

Amazing car. I’m sure it’s going to look like a million bucks, when it’s detailed. An AM/FM stereo radio is a true rarity in ‘68. Perfectly optioned.

My first car was a 1968 Galaxie 500 which I bought at 14 years old from my uncle in 1978. I sold it a couple years later and bought a 73 Mustang Convertible. I searched for many years for a replacement. I found a 68 LTD 4-door hardtop Brougham in Gulstream Aqua with white vinyl top, same body and color of my Galaxie. It was a farmer’s out of South Dakota’s Sunday car with 32,000 miles many on gravel when I found her. It still wears it’s original paint, interior, and vinyl top. Solid as a rock and drives like a dream. It doesn’t have power locks or the light show on the dash and is a power bench with no arm rest. It’s got 56,000 miles now and I’m looking forward to 64,000 when I will have driven it further than the original owner. Your car is awesome. I did add duals and glasspacks which sound great. Keep the flow masters, loud pipes save lives

My Dad had a '67 Galaxie 500 four door sedan in the dark blue, and with a black vinyl top. It had a 289, and he had the dealer AC put in. His next car, a 70 LTD, had factory AC and the 390.
You made it through the weather report without being harassed by any of the local animal life!!!😆

I was a paint and body man over 25 years , that paint and chrome will buff out and look like a new penny. There is a polish especially designed for black cars called Liquid Ebony , use that as a finish polish. Its also good at removing swirl marks form a buffer.

It's astonishing how much this particular era of the LTD was so much more athletic and lithe than what came later. The overall richness of the presentation seems quite sober, compared to later LTDs -- and actually most other 'near-luxury' cars of the day. And right up your alley. Congrats; can't wait to see the transformation.

I learned to drive on a 68 Galaxie 500, same model line as the LTD. Mr uncle bought a 68 LTD. This and 62 are my favorite years of full size Fords for that decade. You are lucky to find this car in such good condition. I can't imagine buying a new car and not driving it. Most of my cars had 9000 miles on them 3 to four months after the day I bought them. I always drove more in the first half of the first year of ownership than the rest of the time I owned the car, but I averaged 18 to 20K a year. Even sitting there was aging going on, that was evident in the paint. I was surprised by how dirty the engine was, but those little critters do make a mess. It looks though to be an easy cleanup. Congratulations on the find!

If I bought cars as old as you do I'd be compelled to purchase a _'blast cabinet'_ and experiment with different types of abrasive medium. Few things are as satisfying as removing the *minimum* amount of corrosion possible before restoring a surface! I love buying aged but lightly used, well cared-for cars. But I draw the line around 1996 so my OBDII code-reader works AND so all the little rubber bits & bobs still hold-in or keep-out what they're supposed to! Cheers Mr. Rare Classic!! *You're the only video-maker I enjoy learning about American cars from!*

What a beautiful car. In the mid 80's a close friend had a 68 LTD and I thought it had to be the best car ever made. It had the 390 2bbl (or was it 2V) and a C6. He abuse that car like there was no tomorrow and it just kept coming back like Christine. He hard a hard time keeping back tires on it, they kept going bald from the torque/burnouts. I really wanted that car when he got tired of it, but alas I took a job several hundred miles away and he ended up selling it to the scrap yard. I just saw another one driving around my town and asked the owner if it was the 390 2bbl and he did confirm it was. I don't think it was the same 68 I remember though. Just saw it today as a matter of fact. Beautiful car you have Adam!

Adam Thought I'd let you know about this subscriber. I'm a soon to be 75yo man from The West side of Michigan. Grew up on a farm, and Daddy taught me how to drive on a 1929 Model A ford when I was eight years old. In 1967 I bought my first car for $625.00 from my hard earned saved money picking every fruit that grows in Michigan, washing and waxing neighbors cars, baby sitting, cleaning the Fire Barn and trucks, any job I was able to find I took it. The car was a 1964 Pontiac Catalina Convertible which I drove while attending Ferris State College. After my Associates Degree I was drafted and inducted into The United States Army January 1968. An. Honorable Medical Discharge after Southeast Asia followed July 1969. I then bought a new 1969 Pontiac Lemans. Friends drove with me from Grand Rapids to JFK International Airport, and I flew on Air France to Paris. After three months traveling with a Euro Rail Pass all. over Europe I returned home, and began my career with Northwest Airlines flying First Class all over the World. To make. this short I will now list all the new cars a bought every year for many years, and at times two! A 1970 Palisade Green Poly Pontiac Grand Prix, 1972 Burnt Orange Camaro, 1973 Green Thunderbird and a 1973 Dark Brown Cream Vinyl Top Cadillac Coupe deVille, 1974 Black Thunderbird, 1975 Silver White Top Pontiac Grandville Brougham Convertible, two 1976 Cadillacs both Kingswood Green the Coupe had white leather and The Sedan deville d'Elegance Dark Green CorduroyPillow fusion seats, 1978 Black Cadillac Sedan deVille Red Leather, two 1979 Lincoln Town cars a Light Morning Gold (Tan) and a Deep Blue Poly Collectors Series, two 1980 Black Pontiac Trans Am's, 1981, 1982 Black Trans Ams, 1983 White no vinyl Top, Brown Valour interior, and Adam the ;list goes on. I, so much enjoy your knowledge and your selection of automobiles! Thanks, Dale

Adam, Dang! When I grow up I want to be you lol! I’m actually much older than you … I was 13 when this latest beauty of yours rolled off the assembly line, but back in the day I became more enamored with the big-3’s larger big body “near luxury” models like this gorgeous and so rare LTD Brougham than I was with the mid-sized ‘muscle’ cars of that era that grab so much more attention these days. Brougham trim package pushed pricing closer to Lincoln land and the main reason so few were produced. Thousands more pedestrian LTD’s produced with crank windows and AM radios etc for every one of these. And triple-black to boot? Be still my heart. Power plant upgrade to 390-4V or 429 only option that would make this a little sweeter, but this car is no less stunning and a real head turner. Congrats on the ‘score’ and look forward to seeing how it looks after you’ve had a chance to show it some Adam love! Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing!

That is absolutely stunning. The 68 body lines are so clean. What a head turner.

I'm probably partial to the 67 standard Fords. When I was 3 that year, Dad bought a Wimbledon White 67 Custom 500 sedan with blue interior, 2bbl, 255 horsepower 390. We kept it until 1974, then gave it to my sister when she got married. Probably Dad's favorite car. The 68s also look sharp though.
